mccain is recovering at home in arizona. there's no timetable yet of when he gets back to capital hill. lawmakers and congress don't seem to know what is going to come up next on the issue of healthcare. the gop going back and forth do we repeal and replace, do we just repeal? what do we do. there are three health proposals floating around in the senate and none have the support to pass. they he would leave mills more americans without a healthcare. today the white house worked to discredit the credits from the non partisan office. they're doing the best job they can. i don't think anybody around here is making their decisions based upon the c bo scoring. the motion to proceed on a healthcare plan next week. it's unclear whether they're voting on a straight appeal. we thought this week was busy wait until next week. jeff sessions says he is not going anywhere even though president trump is not hap

with his handling of the russian investigation. last night we told you about an interview with president trump in which he said he would never have picked sessions for the job if he knew sessions would have recused himself. president trump also called the decision very unfair to the president. sessions was asked today whether he was considering stepping down. i have the honor of serving as attorney general. it's something that goes beyond any thought i would have you ever had for myself. we love this job. we love this department and i plan to continue to do so as long as that is appropriate. >> in today's white house briefing which was again off camera, sarah huk bisanders insisted the president still has confidence in sanders despite being dispointed by the recusal if the president wanted sessions removed from his job it would have happened already. we talked about the new york times interview. the president's re marks about jeff sessions got
11:34 pm
the most attention. there was some other eye popping quotes from the interview with the times. here's a couple of the highlights. first on french president emanuel macron. he said he's a great glie, smart, strong, lovers holding my hand. then he went onto say people don't realize he loves holding my hand. i think he's going to be a terrific of france. the president also spoke about diner dinner. i was seelted next toed next to. that wouldn't be a big deal except the prime minister's wife does speak english. here's some proof of her back in new york city. and songs. little wonder. it's seafood, it's always fresh and plentiful. well, that's part of the speech
11:35 pm
there. the president also talked to the times about that speech he made in poland saying i've had the best reviews. enemies of mine in the media. enemies of mine are saying it was the greatest speech ever made by a foreign president. he said theres what nt much i could say about hillary clinton was already worse than i was already saying. that was the president 's defend that he knew nothing about the russian meeting. dldged jr. says the lawyer didn't have any dirt. finally, the president on health health insurance. he said pre existing conditions are a tough deal because you're basically saying the moment of the insurance you're 21 years old and you start work angelica you're paying $12 a year for insurance and by the time you're 70 you get a nice quote. there is a lot going on in washington this week, but once again it was a theme week. do you remember what it was? made in medication the president had another made in america event
11:36 pm
time with three major drug companies. today i'm proud to welcome three more great kssments we've had a wonderful companies, a little smaller than yours, but every company is smaller than yours. to the white house for really a major announcement you'll be hearing that, merck, pfizer and corning, these three companies are announcing that pharmaceutical packaging will now be made in america. >> that's some good new there, the president has been criticiz ed over made in america week because many of the trump branded products that carry both his name and a ivanka's name were other sees. it can't find qualified americans to work as cooks, it was t wait ers and housekeepers. we know president trump loves golf but he's not the first president to join the presidency. coming up

>> i call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. thank you. now watch this drive. how we know president trump is definitely not the first commander in chief to hit the golf course. since the game has become popular you know every president has played. to join us tonight to talk about the presidency and golf. the voice of america as well as a host on cbs sports radio. hello michael >> how are you doing. i wanted to talk to you all week long and you're here with us. let's talk about golf and how it pertains to the presidency. it's a game that president trump loves. he's hit a lot of courses. he
11:40 pm
a couple of his courses in the golf pretty well, right? knows- >> very well. i've played several of his courses and they're very, very courses. they certainly have that discontinuetive trump style, lots of gold leaf, lots of the statues and lots of the name trump every where. i had written an article some years ago that predicted he would be the next commissioner of the pga tour because he loved the game. that job actually did come up last year during the election but he chose a different path. he does know the game very, very well and his properties are very , very highly regarded. and so the last couple of years in golf it seems like there was an interest that fell off because tiger woods, you know, had been injured. he had hadn't been playing and now we're talking about golf because of a totally different reason because of his course in
11:41 pm
the senior ga tour was there. did you happen to hear about some politics can we play here, not play here. i've been doing that since he he became a candidate. i came back from the us open in 2015 and i had lunch with then candidate trump about 48 hours after he announced for the presidency and we had it at the golf course here in the washington area and we talked about a loft things and i had the feeling that he wasn't necessarily sure that he was going to be president necessarily but obviously very enthusiastic about the run. politics have come up since then . i think that barack obama was certainly a very high profile golfer during his time. i think he golfed over 300 times during his presidency, which seems like a high number. president trump is on his way to more than doubling that. at
11:42 pm
barack obama had golfed nine times and president trump has been out about 18, 19 times. he's enthusiastic about the game . politics does come up whether you want to play his courses, should you play, if you agreed with his politics or you don't agree with his politics should you be on that short of thing. certainly it does come up every where in washington. it's the thing we do heer. you talked to terric trump just a few months into his father's presidency. as a son, the guy who is running the trump organization nowadays with his brother donald jr., what was his take on the whole situation? was it like nothing has changed? >> for him not much has changed eric is one of the more low key members of the family. he's the most low key of the family. he's very interested in real estate
11:43 pm
the golf properties are as special as they can be. i asked him if it was a hinderance to his work to have a father in the white house. like everyone i think who is in the family, especially the immediate familiar live a president, there's some pluses and some minuses. there are some things that are easier and some things that are more l difficult. certainly people have a second thought about coming to the courses if you don't agree with the politics and he agreed knowledged that that's the case what came through in that interview is how much he really admires his father and adoors his father and wants to be a part of that business, wants him to be a success and he wants the trump business to be a success. ten seconds before we get a go, when you saw the video of the president driving the golf cart which we just showed people, when you saw that what went through your head? rnlg that's our poad us. that's what he does. especially if it's his course. if i get a course i might do that. i probably won't , but
11:44 pm
thank you very much michael williams. i appreciate you stay ing up with us. my pleasure . we're back after this on the final five. [ indistinct chatter ] [ intense music playing ] it's here, but it's going by fast. the opportunity of the year is back: the mercedes-benz summer event. get to your dealer today for incredible once-a-season offers, and start firing up those grilles. lease the e300 for $569 a month at your local mercedes-benz dealer. mercedes-benz. the best or nothing.
