tuban inappropriately toucheded a three-year-old girl while taking a nap. he was arrested last friday, here told he's a cook at this gaithersburg kinder care, he worked in the lunch room. they also say there would be no reason for him to interact with the child during nap time. we're told he has reportedly changed his story about what happened at least three times. ultimately, admitting to police that he did make contact with the victim when he gave her a blanket during nap time. aside from those allegations, again, it took nine months from when the victim's parents first alerted kinder care about the incident. here's why. >> the incident occurred in late october. my understanding is that the day the incident occurred. athlete year-old victim reported it to her mother, who then contacted kinder care, who

contacted child protective services and a month later is when the police began their investigation. kinder care e-mailed us this statement saying our goal is always to do what's best for the children in our care and provide every child with a caring nurturing place to learn and grow, we're fully committed to maintaining a safe and caring environment for our children. kinder care goes on to say they take any concerns regarding teachers and staff seriously and that when any allegations surface they do report it to police, and also the state licensing agency, and cooperate with any state agencies. we're not sure exactly what went wrong, we do know in this instance, this is what we're told, that the victim's mother told the staff here at kinder care about the incident when it happened in october. kinder care then contacted child protective services, and a source tells fox 5 local news

incident when they reported it to child protective services. the mother then called cps directly after a month went by wanting to know the status of the investigation. that's when police were ultimately called, tisha lewis, fox 5 local news. police say man was on a robbery in down dc. >> one bank robbery and two attempted happened within blocks each other less than half an hour. matt ackland is here with more on these. >> reporter: as you guys know, metro center is one of the busiest areas of dc, this is where the first one happened around 10:00 this morning, in fact, just moments ago, the atm area opened up. police were able to give a really good description, this was a man in his 50's, he was driving a cadillac silver gold navy champagne, once he hit this one, they

couple blocks away and then attempted to rob two other, those two very close to the white house. dc police rolling out the crime scene tape. blocking people from a busy sidewalk. >> you have to go around. >> through the glass of the m and t bank our camera captured fbi agents collecting evidence this bank and a few blocks away two more attempted bank robberies those were closed for business as investigators collected clues. late this afternoon, we were expecting the fbi to possibly give us surveillance video from these banks, when we called, they said you might want to check with dc police, because we're hearing there could have been some kind of apprehension, when we checked they said they had taken somebody into custody. they believe connected to the three bank robberies, but they would not give us his identity until h

so definitely a tense situation in downtown dc this morning, sounds like police have captured the person responsible. live in metro center, matt ackland, fox 5 local news. dc police are also looking for person responsible for three armed robberies in northeast. this is a look at surveillance video of the first robbery. it happened last thursday at a store in the 3600 block of 12th streets northeast. police say the suspect demanded money from the teller and got away with an undisclosed amount cash. then the next day, the suspect robbed two stores in northwest. one along the 1100 block of u street. the other one happening in the 2300 block of 14th street. in each, suspect wore a scarf to cover his head. three men wanted for all burglary in the district. this is surveillance video of the men breaking into the 1500 block of alabama avenue. they break in before fleeing the scene, police are looking for

. this is fox 5 local news at 5:00. here's a look at more headlines, we begin with the deadly crash from early this morning on indian head highway. one of the men driving the wrong way on route 210 when his car slammed into another vehicle. both drivers killed. crash happened around 2:30 in the morning in fort washington. emergency crews had to cut the vehicles apart in order to get those victims outlet. so far, their identities have not been released. a man from wood bridge producing child pornography, jason is accused of exchanging inappropriate photos of the 14-year-old boy. detectives seized evidence to support the clms

incident happened between last october and june, the 33-year-old being held in a detention center without bond. a joint base andrews helicopter made a precautionary landing in prince george's county today. the chopper had a low oil pressure line and landed in suitland to make sure everything was ok. no damage to the aircraft or nearby property and no one hurt. three u.s. postal workers have been found guilty of moving as much as 1,000 pounds of marijuana through a northwest dc postal station. the three were indicted last summer and all convicted today of bribe reand conspiracy to commit bribe re >> paul wagner live from the federal courthouse in the district with that story. paul? >> reporter: yes, it was last summer fox 5 first told you about these department, the three workers were allegedly working together to move as much as a half a ton of mariju

the la m o n d rig station to northwest dc. the jury found them guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery as well as bribe re. let's show you video earlier today. that's kendra brantly leaving court after being convicted on felony conspiracy charges, mail carrier found guilty along with two others after prosecutors seen here leaving court presented evidence showing the three made sure priority mail packages containing marijuana were not detected by postal inspectors and were delivered not to addresses but to people in cars who paid cash for the deliveries. prosecutors claimed in the original indictment, dean vaughn row a supervisor would use his computer to identity the packages coming into the station and made sure they got into the hands of his co conspirators. prosecutors claimed the thr

carried on the conspiracy for as long as a year. dean vaughn row, the supervisor of that station was locked up after the indictment and he has remained in jail this entire year. none of the three had any visible reaction when they were convicted today. they will all be sentenced in the fall. two of them will be sentenced in september and one will be sentenced in october. we attempted to talk to the prosecutors as they left court, they declined saying we would have to speak with their public information officer at the department of justice. live outside the federal courthouse. paul wagner, fox 5 local news. gary is here with the latest on the weather >> more heat and humidity. little bit of thunderstorm activity too. that's about what it is. i got to fill two minutes. actually, it's good because we're still expecting the heat wave to break. it hasn't been

some clouds out there and a few folks gotten showers and thunderstorms. it still hazy out there. it's hot and humid. and we've had the heat index values up to 100 and beyond. so this heat advisory that's in place is going to go until 8:00. we're sitting at 96 and this is on the hour, the hottest temperatures all day. gaithersburg is 93. not too bad for frederick at 88. look at martinsberg, 80 there, winchester 73 degrees. obviously, they've had thunderstorms and showers and clouds. so that's helped bring the temperatures down just a little bit. once the thunderstorms move away, clouds will break up obviously and temperatures will come back up. a temporary break nonetheless and 96 for frederick to show you the heat index kind of give you a sense of what it feels like when you factor in that humidity, it is brutal, 104 feels like in the city down to

95 down to fredericksberg up around 105. manassas 103, back out to the west, where they've had thunderstorms, which, by the way are dying down now, it is much cooler. severe cluster was to the south of i66. coming across 81. that's all dissipated. also, watching a pretty strong through coming through winchester, with a lot of lightening and hail, now down to light rain as it moves to western sections of loudoun. to the north another storm coming out of hasn't cock and running along 70. if it holds together,ing hagerstown watch out for this one, there's heavy rain and lightening and maybe hail and gusty winds, that's been the history with these thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. one complex moves through, there's another complex up here in the midwest. this is forming. it will stay together and it will move in our direction overnight tonight. here's the deal on what we're thinking for severe thunderstorms

potential for that. all of this yellow? this is slight risk it's not necessarily elevated but a stronger sense of having the chance for thunderstorms tomorrow being strong maybe severe. gusty wind and hail would be the big primary threats coming from those. and we'll get heavy rain as well. marginal risk farther to the south, by the way, both weekend days we're outlooked for the possibility of some severe thunderstorms, strong storms out there, 96 tomorrow, 94 sunday. still hot and humid, both days, so the heat index will be up around 100 again, if not above it. tomorrow morning, potential shower or thunderstorm overnight. dry most of the day. early afternoon, more showers, thunderstorms, potentially strong and severe, we have to keep an eye rumbling through the area through the evening hours, we begin to break things up a little bit late tomorrow evening and again another chance for thunderstorms coming back on sunday. tomorrow, we're warm. even maybe hot by about 8:00

. earlier today, high school teams from around the world participated in a fun and challenging event in rockville known as the spaghetti bridge, the goal to design and build a bridge using dry spaghetti. a team from china was declared the winner, fox 5 captured some of the sights and sounds from today's events. >> what they're doing today, they had designed these bridges, out of spaghetti, and today, they're testing these bridges to see how much weight it can handle before it breaks. in

show a short time ago and we saw the small plane, there were a number of people on board that plane. it is a c, plane, the passengers who had been in that airplane were on one of the landing >> the barge >> and they were being taken off of that into a boat or ferry. a small plane landed in the east river of new york city, it's unclear right now why that plane had to land in the river or if anyone was hurt >> we are seeing there were a couple of stretchers looks like being brought out. hopefully if there are injuries they're minor looks like a lot of people gathered there walking out at this point. unclear how many may be rescuers or people from the plane, we'll continue to monitor it, of course >> some may also be from the boat. the plane did not look that big to be holding that many people. this is a b
