swarms erupt and disappear? that was just a snippet of what you'll see during shark fest 2017 which kick off sunday ni night. but if you haven't gotten into in the oh act just yet don't worry because there's plenty of programming left and this morning we're chatting live with man who knows all about the great white shark his name is george burgess. he's one of the top shark attack experts in the world and he joins us live now from new york city. good morning to you, george. good to to to talk to you. i didn't even know there was a shark tack expert unactually keep a file on shark attacks i'm sure it's just like it seems a file on shark attacks. right? >> yeah, it's call the international shark attack file, and it's a series of investigations of every known shark tack going back to the mid 1500s. and after analyzing thousands of these attacks we begin to see patterns and after we see those patterns, we can offer some advice as to how to reduce the

humans to get together. >> now, george, are there more tax now or do we just report on more shark tax? >> a little bit of both. little bit of both. over the years the population of humans has increased of course every year. so if we look at the number of attacks decade by decade since 1900 each decade has had more tax than the previous year. it goes on that way largely because there's more and more humans in the water. with that said, we also see more attacks now days because we've got cell phones and social media and so forth and so anything that gets scene gets reported. >> george, now i'm not shark attack expert, but you mentioned that there are -- may be some things you can do. my number one thing would be to stay out of the water out of the shark's habitat. that's just me. what else can you do -- i think you're just out of luck if

run into a shark in the water, right? >> well it's not quiet that bad. but you're right. if you're overly concerned about shark attack, work on your suntan on the beach. drink a cool one and you will go home safe. but if you go in the water the chances of being attacked are as an individual are almost inn testable. the chance of dying are even lower yesterday yet. last year there were four fatalities worldwide, and so divide those fatalities by the billions of hours in the water and you can see that your chance of dying were from slim to none. >> okay. all right. george this is the last question here. misconceptions about the shark because it's a scary creature in the water. we know that part. so is there another misconception about the shark? >> well, i think sharks are sometimes given a human like traits or characteristics and certainly the movie
