invstigate a double murder. bob barnard is live from lorton with the details breaking this morning. good morning, bob. >> reporter: wisdom, good morning to you. yes, a tow truck has just arrived on scene here. soon they're going to take that white acura away from the scene here. we're told by police that this is exactly how the car was found around 3:40 this morning. it was running. it was in park and the doors were open. inside and still inside are two men who were apparently shot dead here this morning. the call came from initially as a suspicious car when police came here they found it just like this. and what you can't see are some bullet holes in both doors. you can see them from the inside and the victims again still in there. police initially said that this appeared to be a drug related hit although they're not elaborating whether they found something in the car or whether in their identification of the men in there they found something else. we're just not sure. they

mobile fingerprinting device to at least identify one of the people. but they're not releasing the names of the victims who again are still here on the scene until their families are notified. police say they're actually going to tow the car away with the bodies still inside as they continue their investigation. they put up a covering over the license plate here we believe it is a virginia tag. police say they have gone through the neighborhood but so far at least what they're selling us they haven't found anyone who heard or saw what happened here this morning. again, in the darkness of 3:30, 3:40 this morning, we're not sure if the person who called in the suspicious vehicle heard the gunshots. but that's what this appears to be. and that's kind of where the investigation stands. again, believing it has something to do with illegal drugs but not explaining what that is. we have seen them recover shell casings here. so it appears obviously a number of gunshots were fired because two men killed inside this car here and this is

grove drive at hoe poe hick road here in the lorton section of fairfax county, guys.. appreciate i let's move and to story fox5 was first to report on last night. we do want to warn you video to this story is hard to watch. it shows a 12-year-old boy in southwest d.c. getting attacked by group of kids. new this morning an arrest has been made in that attack. police tell us a 13-year-old boy is now in custody. he's one of four suspects that can be seen in the video that was posted online and has now been shared more than 100,000 times. disturbing. >> very disturbing let's get to nap miss right now another breaking story. traffic nightmare this morning on route 50. a double fatal crash investigation near the bay bridge. >> we've been following this story all morning long. all lanes are finally back open after traffic was brought to a complete standstill just a few hours ago. fox5's annie yu joining us live from the scene where she's been all morning with the details now. annie, good morning. >>

all of you. this is a tragic accident very serious one that took the lives of two people. maryland state police says while this still remains under investigation they believe that a driver going in the wrong direction on the westbound side of route 50 is the cause of this accident this morning. now if you look right here traffic is all open now. it was open for -- it's been open for about an hour or so. it looks like you're looking at some scene video from this morning, but lanes have reo reopened. this scene video from this morning. where maryland state police spent quite a bit of time obviously investigating and processing the scene. state police say that they received reports this morning about a car traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of route 50. it involved three cars. all three mangled up, very badly. you can see in this video basically guys the front end of these cars were either gone or just crushed like tinfoil. debris scattered

it's not clear which of the drivers was traveling the wrong way at this point. but it did take the lives of two people. we understand it was a man an woman. they were the drivers of two of the vehicles involved. we also know that two others are still recovering at this hour. those two being the driver and passenger of the third vehicle. i do want to point out that this isn't the first time something like this has happened along route 50. in may we had a driver that was also involved in a multi vehicle accident she was traveling on the wrong side in that case she was traveling on the eastbound -- traveling eastbound on the westbound lanes and it took the lives of two people as well. and so some people have asked how could this be still happening? this can be pretty tricky area if you're not familiar with the area. but, again, as of now, we have all lanes open but this obviously coming after hours of investigation and it's still continues. back to you all in the studio. >> all right, annie, thank you.

degenerative brain disease. the question now is what about younger athletes? fox's william la jeunesse has more. >> reporter: debilitating brain disease cte symptoms inn delude slurred speech, memory loss and dementia. and researchers say it was found in nearly 90% former football players. from the big leagues to high school. >> the study involved the brains of 202 deceased players most donated to boston brain bank. the biggest sample came from men who once played in the nfl. all but one of the 111 brains examined were diagnosed with c cte. among college players, 48 of 53 brains were diagnosed with cte. among high school players, three of 14 or 21%. >> these studies are certainly raising awareness, um, but we cannot draw any kind of conclusions yet

you know, how dangerous youth or high school football is. we still don't know that. and we really need to do more research. >> reporter: doctors say they need advanced diagnostics to test for cte. >> we still have so many unanswered questions. we still don't know what causes the disease. we still need to figure out risk factors for the disease. and really we need to be able to diagnose it in life which we can't do yet. >> reporter: research is going to help us to understand how to diagnose this problem in the living. i'm convinced we're going to be able to diagnose it in the living. we're going to be ail to identify people that are suseptible to later life problems. >> reporter: the lead author admits bias in the city since all the brains examined came from players who previously showed signs of cte. in los angeles, william la jeunesse, fox news. these findings appear in the journal of the american medical association. and for me, this is not knew information. it's just more conclusive information. >> yeah. >> and i've said it before i'll say it again i absolutely love

take steps to try to play in a safer manner. so it's going to be tough to see where that balance line is. >> the thing for me even with the protective gear and the change in technique on the field you still see these injuries occurring. you've got to think it just makes common sense if you're teagueing hit after hit after hit there's no way you can say that nothing isn't being shifted somewhere in your brain and something is not happening. so i know they're making changes i'm with you. if i had son i'd would be hard pressed to let him play or my daughter if she is he that's what she wanted to do. i'd be hard pressed to let her play knowing this could be the out come that's like send your kid into danger zone knowing that something could happen to them. >> the problem with players getting past that macho i can play through anything. >> right. >> you see the occasional player who says, look, i knew i had to step away. >> i hadn't reached pinnacle in my career you get knocked around that much at some point your health and you want to live beyond football. >> when you say the argument of now they have better helmets and they've learned to hit better. the players you also hear them say they're bigger, faster, hit harder

don't -- if you're planning to go to see the total solar eclipse and you don't already have plans for where you're going to stay you might be out of luck. it's going to be an incredible travel day. the pam where people will be able to see the toll solar eclipse so the sun will be completely covered by the moon goes all the way coast to coast across the country. for the first time actually since 1918 that it's done that. sorry, go ahead. >> sarah, is it going to be like nighttime if you're in the total eclipse or what will it feel like for you outside? >> yes. so if you're in the path of total solar eclipse when the sun is completely covered it will be as dark as night. you might be able to see some stars and you'll be able to see the sun's outer atmosphere call it's corona like this cool darker like circle around where the sun would be. >> okay. so let's talk about the safety, though, because it's not a matter of just being able to

happen. there's real danger that comes with trying to see it. >> that's right. so you cannot look at the sun until it is completely covered by the moon. so if you're for instance in d.c. it's going to be a partial eclipse which means that part of the sun will be visible the whole time. and anywhere the sun will slowly disappear and while any part of the sun is visible you need to use a tool to look at it. i actually have some examples of those if you want to see. >> yeah, show them. >> sure. so the basic thing you can have these eclipse glasses. they're just paper glasses with these really really dark solar filters. you can't see anything through them except for the sun. >> okay. >> um, there are also special eclipse binoculars which have basically the solar filter built in so vick closer view and you can also make a pinhole and then project the sunlight through the pinhole. they're the spun my co-workers

just little dot going through the tinfoil here and there's a little thing on the side that you can look in and see the sun projecting on the back. it's a little weird and it's like very tiny. but it's safe and then you can see it eclipse. >> what happens if you look at -- i want people to sake this terreusly. what happens especially i know because lots of kids are going to want to watch. what happens if you actually look at the the sun while all this is going on? >> well, you can be blinded or seriously damage your eyes. >> yeah. so -- >> right. >> obviously we want to be well prepared for it. >> absolutely. > and if you are looking through this is another pair of eclipse glasses it look like normal sunglasses but you cannot use sunglasses or even like a lot of pairs of sunglasses on top of each other. i've heard people have tried that, and it's not safe. but if you're l looking through eclipse glasses, once you see the sun completely disappear you can't see anythin

and she did. and she recruited her daughter to make films for her. so i met these young ladies when they were 11 years old. and i just fell in love with them. in the eighth grade, i didn't real he will know about stepping it wasn't part of my culture growing up. but these girls saw me coming out their school with cameras one day in the eighth grade blessed look at me and said next time you come to school with cameras you're going to film the step team. it's what happened in a great musical i didn't know step i knew about musicals and they were expressing themselves through step. >> that's right. your body is the instrument in stepping. and blessed, what was it about stepping that you thought would make a good story that would showcase you and your classmates in a positive way? >> it wasn't that that i thought step would make good story. step is where i found my passion. i always say step is live. it teaches a lot about every day live about being discipline, about speaking of, using your platform, being courageous, and educating people about where you come from, and what stepping means to us. step is

and not just that but the school the school's mission is goal not just to educate young ladies but to get to you college. i'm kind of turning my back to you here. but miss defeature the counselor that guided these young women through the process of applying for college and for a lot of them this was the first time a lot of them their families had done this. >> talk about why it was instrumental. what role you played and why it was so emotional for you. >> one i believe that this my life. this is what i was put on this earth to do so it makes it easy in that sense. it was about educating the families. it was making sure they knew i was with them every step of the way and it wasn't about what it was about what i was going to find out and made sure they did know. and we partnered, and that's the key i think. we have to partner with the families. we have to meet them where they are. we have to visit them at home if we need to. we have to meet them at 6:00 a.m. if we have to. or at seven or 8:00 o'clock at night. so it's about making sure that they understood that we are team and it's about the best fit for

family, academically, and financially. >> i know that when you watch this film this takes you emotional roller coaster because the heart your heart the way you love these girls the way you really took them under your wing was just so amazing. you came into the picture and you're telling them i was you. and you can't get any realer than that. what did it mean to you to come into a school like this and be the coach of the step team and see their potential and know that you could be the difference? >> it was just amazing. i really feel that the whole village was the difference. i think just my tactic of being real and being up front about the mistake i've made in my life so that they understand that okay i made it to good place and if you all making mistake it's not too late. don't give up. own it. move forward. being a part of that village has been mazing but sharing this whole experience with miss did you have fete and the rest of the staff has been amazing i wish i had a place like whisk when i was their age.

takes deeper look at the princess' life the events leading up to tragic night that end the it 20 years ago and explores several conspiracy theories continue to surround her death this morning we're chatting one-on-one with a man who studied her life for many many many years. world row mount biographer andrew morton who literally wrote the book on diana 1992 the biography and joins us live from england with more on this special. good morning. >> good morning. >> so first of all, i want to ask you because we've been talking 20 years since the death of princess diane n your journey started well before that when you had a chance to work on the boy gravy. does it seem like 20 years to you since we lost the princess? >> no. it seems like ten minutes. i mean, i think everybody feels the same way. i think wow, two decades gone by since she died because everybody remembers where they were the day she died. obviously i've been working with her before that for as you mentioned the book diana her true story publish 25 years

last month in june 1992. >> so what's more challenging andrew because when you publish the the interviews with the princess, you kind of had to back road it. were you an able to obviously get the direct interviews so that took a little work to get all of the recordings from her. to be able to put it into book form. was that journey more chal challenging more challenging now in the 20 years since her death trying to find out what hap happened? >> it was more challenging at the time because it was like playing three dimensional chess. keeping one move ahead of buckingham palace and also a move ahead of what's now called fleet street the old british newspaper, tabloid newspapers. so that was a very tricky time. it was very intense time in my life. very exciting, too. exhilarating but also quiet terrifying that she could be exposed. >> so the question now is, in these 20 years, obviously since the world lost the princess, everybody has been trying to figure

private deck, conspiracy theories what really happened. is it what the authorities said what certain people said? what buckingham palace said. people coming up with their own theories. how do you sift through that and what now especially in this special are we able to either address, prove, debunk? >> well, i know, yes, i know the special looks all the conspiracies hence the idea of treason the fact that muhammed fires accused of principal philip being the murderer and diana wrote this incredibly letter talking about prince charles would engineer a car crash against mow. this is several years britt happen. and i have to say as well, that when i was work we can her back in 1991 she went to see all kinds of fortune tellers and as stroll lo injuries who were often quite accurate and several of them talked about car cra crashes. so almost like the universe organized this. they we

conspiracy. and obviously if she had been wearing a seat belt she'd be with us today. >> do you feel, if you ever have in any type of contact with her when you were whether working on the book or just chatting with her or working in any other way did you ever get the sense that she felt there would be an early did he mice for her perhaps to this point of an early death? did it go that far with her that she felt that way? >> diana had real true sense of second sites. she for toll the death of one of prince charles' race horses, for example. she for toll the fact that her father would have a stroke. so she really erie witch chi second sense but this was manifested the way she felt she'd never become queen and that's what she said to me. she never hinted that she was going to have a short life. in fact, she was talking quiet open

looking for new man and making a new life for herself. > she was looking at it as almost a rebirth for her as looking forward to a lot of positives under this new life in the future? >> yes indeed that for me is the tragedy. that's what makes me quite angry she work so hard to make a life for herself to use her humanitarian instinct on the world stage to really clear a path for herself and that was tragically brought short in august 1997. >> andrew you were one of the few people that diana trusted and trusted enough to put the book together back years ago. and at least trusted outside of buckingham palace we can say that. what do you truly believe happened? do you buy into any of the couldn't superior so theories or do you believe this was an accident?
