we've been following >> it's a mess out there have not flooding concerns around the region. as another storm is continuing to roll in. >> this is video from earlier today. and you can see people up against a lot of rain, a lot of standing water on the roads and conditions have been rough. no doubt about it. as we take a look at that region getting sections. alexandria, one of those places. two and a half and a halves falling, another couple could fall before the storm ends. >> restaurants and businesses this is something we see every time. this is not old, town alexandria. they've been putting sandbags up. flash flood watch warnings all over the place right now it appears >> including the district and we've had flash flood warnings several around of heavy rain at his since early this morning, it will continue as we head into tonight along with flash flood warning, we've had people stuck in their car, numerous roads closed. it is not a

out there traveling, heavy rain that will continue into early tomorrow morning, let's check radar. started this morning over dc. pockets of heavy rain and thunderstorms and continued to spread all across our area. no one is going to be spared from the heavy rain, and yes, some thunder and lightening tonight. inside and all around the beltway we got heavy rain and even lightening up by berwyn, by greenbelt, it is tough being anywhere out. heavy storms northeast across the bay on to the eastern shore and a large complex of showers and thunderstorms north of charlottesville, waves of the heavy rain will continue and we have flooding concerns which will only be exacerbated by continue rain overnight. you got saturated soil out there by now. flash flood watch warnings for the district. parts of prince george's county county, northern half until 6:45 and alexandria, the video we just showed you from earlier, you and falls church under a flasfl

6:15 and this will come and go you. aerial flooding warning for montgomery county rockville, area that is saw an incredible amount of rain, gaithersburg several inches within an hour earlier. so an aerial warning meaning you can see flooded roadways, ponding, just about anywhere across the county. here's what we got so far, estimator off of rainfall anywhere between two to four inches inside and around the district into montgomery county and that extends up towards anne arundel county and southern maryland. see what i mean? no one will be spared. we'll see another one to two inches overnight. flash flood watch watch goes until 2.p.m. saturday. if your planning on being outside, i caution you not to be on the roads as much as you can, because we'll continue to see the flooding and flash flooding concerns with temperatures in the 70's. that is the big story as we go into tonight. it gets a little better tomorrow, but flooding is one of those things that sticks around long after the storm departs. stay with us here on fox 5 all evening long, keep you

warnings. jim? >> thank you. alexandria a place that sees a lot of flooding. we get this kind of drenching a lot of rain that fell already in more rain may fall before the storm ends. earlier today, the restaurants and businesses there put out sandbags to try to keep the rising water at bay and flooding, of course, is a big problem cross the dmv. a number of roads are closed >> local governments are warning everyone to be careful. matt ackland is live along beach drive near east west highway in chevy chase, known for getting closed when we have these kinds of rain, what's the latest? >> reporter: you lived here long enough, you know that this is an area that floods quite a bit, and i have to tell you the rain started coming down hard about 20 minutes ago. this area hyped me, you can see maybe a car in the distance. i don't know if you can see around that bend. a car just waiting there. they're waiting to see whether they want to cross through this road that's covered with water

or not. i have to tell you a lot of folks this afternoon we've been here about two hours, they're not heeding that warning, a they're coming through this, and probably within last 20 minutes, it's gotten a lot deeper, we just saw a big truck come thousand, but some of the smaller vehicles are deciding to turn around and go back around. in fact, let's take you to video that was shot not too long ago of this taking place right here along beach drive, many of the cars going through slowly, spee vac my photography and i have watched people gun it going through quickly. this is also beach drive but also a little bit further north from here. that is where maryland park police had beach drive closed off. i'd say this was around the noon hour and as we kind of walk past the police cars, we could see that at the road was covered in

that was going across. today, we talked to one of the drivers who decided it was best probably not to go through. take a listen. >> you never see this road. i've never seen it this flooded. i've driven this eight years and never seen it this deep. so something to see. >> reporter: take a look, this is a park. it typically is a park. this is a soccer field, but all we've seen today are ducks playing on this soccer field. it is covered with water. sarah and jim, just as i started my live shot, take a look who arrived. can you swing the camera back around? just now, a maryland park police officer just pulled up to block this part of the road off. there had been cones in place, but people have gone around those cones and just, as we were speaking, this maryland police officer has pulled up to make sure that no one goes through this water. there's still probably fivor

(screaming) that video is hard to forgot, some of the 911 calls from terrified residents trapped in the rising flood waters in ellicott city back in july. many arer were trapped and the force of the water ripped away buildings smashed in cars and led the city with crumbling streets and sidewalks. one year later, as we can see additional rain moving into the area, the city is stillry building and gary mcgrady is live from ellicott city

little bit, it didn't go far enough to coverall the expenses. so this community, these businesses, these residents have really had to rely on the community and state government and county too, so it has been a slow go. a lot of folks had to pull from personal savings so rebuild their businesses. one side of the street took it a little bit harder. this side over here, got the flooding, but they didn't necessarily get the flooding and the river actually running through the businesses. come back out if you're not already. i want to show you this. this is important for the town ellicott city. this is the new clock. the old clock. the clock that was damaged during the flood. it stopped, it has been sent over to the museum. but tomorrow morning, at 11:30 right here they will dedicate this brand new clock. for this town, again, when you talk to these people, it's so emotional for them. makes you think how far they've come in such a one-year's time. they're worn

head? how would you feel? >> david appalled at the way his employee and friend was attacked and left for dead on the night of july 15th. it happened along 16th northwest. >> he woke up in the ambulance, and he got eight staples right away for the back of his head. >> reporter: he doesn't know who attacked him but apparently a passerby saw him lying there and called 911. he was in the hospital for three days. treated for the head wound and given a neck brace. when the pain became intold he should, he wasry admitted turns out two bones in his neck were broken. >> could have killed him and he actually could have been paralyzed because they didn't pick up the fracture the first time >> joey was talked around 10:00 p.m. saturday while walking along a friend's house. at residential area, just across from well-known masonic temple >> it's scary in this area, especially on 16th street. people around. this area has been gentry

into the district probably within the next couple hour, even though we get breaks or appears so, that rain will quickly fill right back on in, we've seen today high rainfall rates, gaithersburg getting three inches within an hour, wheaton kind of the same thing, montgomery county been hit particularly hard with that. flash flood warnings as they stand right now for the district, first prince george's county for alexandria, for arlington, these may come and go through the tonight and aerial flood warning for 270, top side of the beltway, montgomery county all the way up through a ashton until 8:15 p.m. and an aerial warning is basically any area within that warning could be flooded or in flooding. temperatures outside right now. it's very cool. we're in the 70's. guess what the winds will be increasing to? a true nor eastward. you got, one wave of heavy rain places another. you may see brief breaks and think it's ok to head outside. but the flooding continues, even if it's not raining, flooding will go

here's more heavy rain filling in during overnight while we're sleeping, you'll wake up to even messier situation out there. by 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, most of the heavy rain exited towards the north and east but you got the leftover showers and with the nature of this storm, we'll have the leftover showers all day long. this is an indoor day, no doubt about it. i don't think anyone wants to be outside and with the ongoing flooding, again, really be cautious tomorrow even when traveling. looks like the rain tapers off tomorrow evening overnight we clear out and sunday, we should be waking up to sunshine, we've seen two to four inches throughout the day, additionally that could be another two to three inches, we got a long night ahead of us and that's why travel is really discouraged because of flooded roads and what's going to pile up on top t treat it like a winter storm. if this were a winter storm, we'd be halfway through the snowfall amount and halfway to go and it gets so much harder to shovel out. for tonight, heavy rain and thunderstorms. that will continue.

on you . ford at the center of a major safety investigation, the national highway traffic safety administration is expanding its probe of complaints of exhaust humans besides ford explorer suvs. the covers 1.3 million explorers. the city of austin texas pulling 400 explorer police cruisers from the fleet. over concerns about carbon monoxide. the police department said 20 officers had tested positive for carbon monoxide poisoning.

he drove to the house and found him unresponsive, turns out he had suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning >> i just remember feeling bee and on the phone and dizzy and nauseous and after that, just remember waking up in an ambulance with an iv in my had arm >> there was an incident in january where he thought he smelt exhaust fumes in his car, carbon monoxide has no odor. that's why they call it the silent killer. he brings it in, we test. tests were negative. we sent it to the dealership. negative tests. he gets the car back. again, in february, he thinks he smells something in the car. takes it to fleet. county fleet. they take care of all of our county cars. they run the test again. negative. we sent it back to the dealership. no, not that time. we don't send it back. he has the incident march 3rd. at that point, we do a test where we

done and remember, he had driven 15 minutes. so he's pushing on the gas, pushing on the gas. gets home and then idoling. that's when we get the co 2 reading >> we reached out to prince george's county police and told us they have nearly 400 of the vehicles in their fleets and but no other incidents. and also they conducted a search of medical records in the last 12 months and there were no reported injuries or illnesses. police in phoenix, they're searching for a man suspected of setting fire to a youth center for lgbt youth. the fire broke out more than two weeks ago. no one was hurt. investigators say the suspect is a 26-year-old man who attended events and used the facility he allegedly set fire to. surveillance video showing the man walking up to the youth center sent pouring gasoline inside. then a fire ball erupts as the man walks out of the building.
