solicitor at that time. it wasn't until he came back here this summer and saw that the same counselor was going to be here that the camper came forward. now the sheriff says he is worried that there may be other victims. last year and this year we need to have them come forward and talk with their kids and see if there is anything that their children may know that we need to know about and that we can look into. again, it's early in the investigation and we're looking into all aspects of h these communications to see what other contacts \he\e may have had. the sheriff's office says richard herns was a volunteer counselor the a the oak grove baptist church summer day camp on dominion lane last summer and this summer. for now he is

a minor under the age of 156789 but the sheriff says his detectives are also investigat ing allegations herns sent lewd images over an electronic device. all of the alleged contacts the sheriff say s occurred outside of camp hours. outside the church today we spoke briefly with the camp director joann brooks. what can you tell me about mr. herns? >> richard is just one of our youths. he is one of our youth that volunteered with us. >> when did you learn about what had happened and the charges against him? >> i am not going to say anything. all i can tell you is that this still under investigation and we're praying for the families that are involved. okay? >> are you aware of other. >> no, i'm not. >> it's still being investigated . we're praying for everyone that is involved. are you worried there are others. >> we're praying for everyone that might have been involved in this situation and i have no other comment.

that herns is no longer volunteering here at the church we checked records and we have seen now that herns is still locked up at the loudon county jail. we were told by the sheriff's office he was arrested last friday. so he is apparent ly not made bale and still behind bars. live in sterling, paul wagner, fox5 local news. >> fox5 is in prince william county where police are looking for a man h may be suffering from a dog by the wound and there is he ' good reason. police responded to a neighborhood in woodbridge after a ten year old girl said someone tried to abduct her but the dog she was walking seems to be the likely hero here. >>reporter: this is a large neighborhood, a lot of row homes here. this his the neighborhood that neighbors tells us it happened on friday. the girl was walking here with her dog. she had her dog, taking the dog on a walk when the

approached her, grabbed her arm and then the dog reacted and according to that girl telling police the disog then bit the man's arm and the man then took off. let's take you to video earlier today. residents say police on friday, this happened around 4:00 responded right away to heather glenn court. a k9 unit searched the wooded area behind these homes and other officers went door to door ask ing people if they had actually witnessed the crime if he they were okay. we spoke to one man today who says that he's not letting his daughter go out unsupervised. he knew she was in danger. i'm happy for the dog and the girl. i hope they catch this guy because this is crazy. too many kids. there is kids all around this neighborhood every day. that man went onto point out that lines, it was 4:00 in the afternoon. there were people getting home present work. it happened right in the middle of the day and yet this guy did it

accent, 31 year old christine parks caused a three-car collision. she died after hitting another car head objection to the form the driver of that car, hew zoo was also killed. two people in a third car were injured. police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. >> and we have an update on the man wanted for robbing a supermarket and trying to ambush two women at a drive through atm in fairfax. police arrested richard myers for the crimes. he was arrested for a drive through atm. he's being held without bond. we knew it was going to be humid and there was a possibility that could be more showers. as we look outside, let's check in with sue and see if any of the showers are heading our way. we do have a few in the district. mostly these are just showers and they don't last very long. we have had one or two thunderstorm. not too long ago we had a warning for a

county. that's in west virginia . the nearest thunderstorm is in the the baltimore area with a little bit of lightening, but let's start with a look at radar and you can get the big picture that we're mainly talking about, just a few things here and there, including a couple of thunderstorms toward baltimore and out toward the mountains. but as we get in closer i wanted to show you what'sing whying on here in the district. again, mostly it's just some light shower activity crossing the river there not too far from the arlington area. these are tending not to move very quick limit i'll put this one in motion for you for the whras hour. you'll be able to see it kind of blows up in place and then wears its itself out. it will have some heavy rain it with no doubt about that. as we look up east of 95 near satisfy age and advanceville, we have another thunderstorm. it has a little bit of lit evening with it. might be very small hail or some gusts to 40 or 50. you have to get up north o

immigration officials say part of the solution to ending the violence could start with local law enforcement. fox5's political reporter ronica cleary is live with a look at how your virginia governor would tackle the issue. >>reporter: sarah and jim, you've heard the president he calls ms13 gang members parks he he calls them animals. he's made it his administration's one of their top priorities to con front the issue. according to those inside the white house they say they need local law enforcement to do it well. tom hol man, the acting director he pointed out the fact that in order for ice to do their job effectively, they rely on local law enforcement. he said sanctuary cities, towns and states make that job extremely difficult to do. the reason is because law enforcement, they are most always the first to come in contact with gang members like those

, we wanted to bring h this closeser to home to see how it might affect you since the administration is saying that that's who they need to do your job. you may be surprised to find out that the commonwealth of virginia doesn't officially identify any of their cities or counties as sanctuaries. but the center for immigration studies, they do identify arlington and chesterfield counties as sanctuary counties. so we reached out to the two men who want your vote in the virginia governor's race, ed gillespie, he's the republican nominee for governor. recall north a.m., he's on the democratic side. how closely interest twer twiend do they believe the issue of sanctuaries and gang violence are and what do they plan to do about it if they do get your vote? let's first take a listen to ed gillespie. >> clearly cooperation is spor and we cannot allow for any of our cities or counties establish themes as

national night out events throughout montgomery county. which he believes isoforming good relationships. >> a black law enforcement group heard from attorney general jeff sessions today just days after president trump's controversial comments. sessions addressed the national organization of black law enforcement executives also known as nobel at their annual conference in atlanta. he highlighted the group's appointment as a.m. bass ors. violence against police officers is on the rise. violence against police officers is on the rice around the country. last year 66 law enforcement officers were murdered in the line of duty. a huge increase of 61 percent compared to 2015. preliminary data this year shows that officers' deaths

took about violence against police officers, use of force, there was a lot of talk about what, of course, the president had said, but your position as a group on what you heard over the last couple of days? >> part of our conversation with the the foarn general, we previously spoke about the comments made by the president, tingly how damaging those were as it relates to the good work already being done around the country by a number of police chiefs and sheriffs to continue to build legitimacy and of course trust with all communities. we talked about a numbe of other issues as well. specifically we also talked about the model use of force policy that nobel, in conjunction with the international association of chiefs of police have been work ing on over the last couple of years. i think it's important for people to at home to learn a little bit more about that and what that code would mean, what that entails. well, what we were attempting to do there was build out a

policy for law enforcement suggesting how best to go -- how best to apply uses of force, particularly talking about opportunities to avoid the olympics of force and inserting deescalation into that conversation and training law enforcement personnel around the country in the escalation. we heard a lot from -- not necessarily a campaign issue, but we certainly heard the president talk quite a bit about a general perceived lack of respect that there is for law enforcement these days. have you noticed any market change in the way that people have approached police in seattle orr couple of years? >> well, in seattle as well as a number of other jurisdictions where i've had the opportunity to spend time in my capacity as nobel's national president we are seeing those relationships improve. we are seeing a number of conversationses and greater interaction between law enforcement in all communities. events lik

night out and the like are certainly putting a positio in communities to have routine conversations with law enforcement in a non 911 response environment. it's important to have that one on one community policing touch that has worked to some benefit in a lot of cities across the country. absolutely. and again the intent of that model policy on use of force is a working document that any department across the country can pull off the shelf april apply, but the other part of that is nobel also spends a lot of time in all communities focusing on those conversations predominantly with youth. we've got a program called the law in your community that we take on the road and have done in about 4,000 different communities around the country and he we continue to do that program building on those conversations between law enforcement and the community. >> all right. national president of nobel. we appreciate i

look at who is seeing them tonight and we're kind of on the clear end of montgomery county. frederick i know earlier you thatted a healthy thunderstorm that alsohood a little bit of hail it with. this is what is around tonight and we also have some act a tift in the mountains . a little bit of lightening that we're seeing here in northwest with our thunderstorm that is kind of groing in the same spot as you watch this. it kind of pulsed up in the arlington area and slowly creeping from south to north. into odenton and up into anne arrundel this has gusts likely to 40, but again it's the heavy rain that is likely a concern for those of you travelling home. it is running east of 95. so at least we're keeping some of the heaviest rain off. more action in the mountains and down toward the charlottesville area, but it looks like what we have around here will last maybe until the sun goes down. we're done with that, but we can't quite ditch the warm temperatures and the

humidity and we'll see that again back on wednesday which means we likely will cook up again some popup thunderstorms tomorrow and on thursday. again , they're in the severe. but we'll keep an eye on them. no really intense heat this week , but it will be on the warmer side, a few degrees above average. a little treat, the weekend looks as though it may cool off a beat and maybe the thunderstorm threat is diminish ing for the weekend. we're going to keep one more day of an eye on it just to be sure right at the moment our temperature 88 in the district, 89 in quantico. an average high of 88. we're going to be at or above 90 most of the rest of this week until we get to saturday and then a nice drop off for the relief of 835-degree s. our surface map will show that the warm pattern continues as high pressure is going to continue to drift off to the east but will also happies a bit of a trough, a very weak frontal boundary will form and we can't rule
