where the president is really standing with this republic congress. it is no secret the relationship has not been the greatest, especially in the wake of that obamacare repeal and replace failure. this is another arena altogether. this immigration reform not based on family ties, basically based on this measure of what an immigrant would bring to the united states, both economically and a productivity standpoint is already facing some stiff eyebrows on capitol hill. one of those most arch eyebrows day camps from senator lindsey graham, as you know, graham and john mccain for years have been some of the leading voices on the republican side for immigration reform but beaten back by conservatives in their own caucus. is this president, who was already on thin ice with many in his own republican

to somehow now be able to rally the troops, get together a major immigration reform package together, and get that through both the house of representatives and the united states senate when one of the leading voices on immigration reform on the republican side already has very big concerns about that. you heard one of the president say just now that english only is going to be a requirement of this change. it is not clear yet what exactly that means. who would be the determiner of that, and how exactly they would administer that in the process of getting visas or any kind of green cards. so this is a proposal, but it's not quite a policy. it's hard to see right now a lot of republicans rushing to his side on this one besides the two that he had on his side when he announced it. >> what happens next, fitz? what's the next step? >> reporter: well, a step from what we call regular order would

of a bill. one of the problems we seen in the past now with the white house is the fact that they have been proposing ideas, but never really sending up legislation connected to it. it's one of the concerns that has been with john kelly taking over as chief of staff. he's never really been in a position where he's had to craft presentation, get co sponsors on the house. this is a bit in the weeds right now, but if they get past the point where they're proposing ideas and get these two senators, you know, like tom cotton write this into a bill, we can move forward. all we have at this point is an announcement and in the echo chamber we're in, it is starting to echo and not in the white house's favor >> we heard a bit about the president planning on going down the path of revisiting policies on affirmative action in terms of how it pertains to getting into colleges what are we hearing and when will see is he any sort of legislative move on it >> they say the

politics is social security. this might be the third rail but it's close. we're talking about affirmtive action and how people get admitted to colleges. now, this has been a legal fight in this country now for a generation, going back to the alan box u.s. supreme court case. this springs from a story in the "new york times" where the times said it has uncovered documents that the u.s. justice department that the justice department is searching its own ranks for attorneys that are will go and ready to start investigations into colleges across the united states and how they admit people based on their race into colleges. now, there is very clear law in this country about whether or not college quota systems are allowed and how race is allowed to be factored. how people are admitted to colleges. it is not clear from the times reporting, what exact race the justice department is talking about. or what

have any evidence of or whether or not they're going around looking for this right now. as it stands right now, if they do do this, it would address a very big concern of many conservatives, but the courts have let the system of admissions in college campuses across this country go too far and it has favored on one side against the other. expect that this is going to cause a lot of controversy moving forward, at hot button issue on both sides and the people who are opposed to this will tell you the reason that we have the kind of diversity on colege campuses in this country the way we do is because over the past 30, 40 years because the courts intervened and made sure the campuses admit people of all races creeds and colors into college campuses and it's not one demographic group >> the fight is coming, we know, we will be watching, we appreciate you breaking down everything for us today. fox 5 sat dn

feel a connection or commitment to solve this >> there's probably information under load on military spouse employment and under employment, most of americans are probably unaware that the military spouses are having difficult time finding new employment. one big barrier we've heard from the spouses is when they move from state to state, they face whole new credentials and licensing requirements. that ends up being costly's new fees in costing and time and so to the extent that we can work with employers and governors and state legislatures to ease those burdens, we'll be happy to put the full force administration behind it. >> reporter: we also spoke with kellyanne conway about the newest sanctions issued against russia, iran and north korea and of course the shake-ups on

will you do anything different looking at a different congressional seat or district >> i sure hope not to spend as much. we're going to raise money the old-fashioned way, get out, talk to voters but not going to take any pack money, lobbyist money, no corporate money be we just are not going to set ourselves up to be influenced by anyone other than the voters. >> the other democrats who were expected to jump in this race are career politicians. what makes you stand out or what makes you different from them and what makes you the best person to take over this particular seat? >> we grew up on a family farm that failed. from there, we built two billion dollars plus business, created over 6,000 jobs. and that's a skill set of working with others. working across the board that i think will translate into congress. of we have enough lawyers, insiders. we need fresh blood. i think we can offer that >> i want to say the current

white house was about one person at the dinner and that was fox news channel anchor kimberly gill foil. we found out there were rumors going around and i want to stress rumors, that was all we know there was something that might have gone on between kimberly and anthony. and the reason is they had been seen and we started looking at pictures, there were a number of events and dinners they had gone to over the last year, and they were very close. and what we had heard was that scaramucci fell that somebody, namely, priebus, was leaking the dinner because he wanted to fuel the rumor about kimberly and anthony, and that is why he went crazy. we called the white house at 9:28 pacific time on monday. and we said, looking we've heard about this, we're trying to do our r

tell us, you know, wawa do you want to say about it and we called the press office and couldn't get through so we contacted somebody in the west wing and we know that circulated we had sent an e-mail, what came back to us was a statement they're just friends and we got a similar statement from kimberly's people. so we decided, look, we're not going to do that story, because there were rumors, but we couldn't say there was a story there. so we just didn't do it. it turned out less than two hours later, anthony resigns. we are told that one of main reasons he resigned that he was not fired going into monday. we were told he was kind of hanging by a thread. but trump said, looking be professional. don't be, you know, don't be street anthony. educated anthony.

of >> do you think the news that was leaking that they could possibly have some connection was enough to set this whole thing in motion for him to resign? >> kind of, shawn, but a little bit more. when we sent the e-mail, what we're told is they realized, gosh, this is, the first day that kelly comes in as chief of staff, he gets overshadowed by this scandal involving anthony or at least the rumors, that turn into a scandal. we weren't going to do the story, but we're told they just kind of looked at it and said, enough already. and they booted him. but he went into monday still having that job. >> it's crazy. it's -- but then again, nothing really surprises us these days, harvey good seeing you >> it's always fun having you here on our political show. hopefully we can have you back some time.
