giving undocumented immigrants the right to vote. tonight, the threats that put today's vote on hold. the newses a at ten starts right now. we begin tonight with the fallout stemming from a d.c. police officer's t-shirt that some say was racist and insensitive. thanks for joining us tonight, every wop, i'm shawn yancy and i'm tony perkins. the controversy over the shirt has already led to one case against a convicted criminal being dismissed and many other cases could be called into question. fox5's evan lambert is live in d.c. headquarters. what happens next. >>reporter: tony, police are still doing their internal investigation into that controversial t-shirt. a defense attorney, though, tells us tonight that his colleagues are likely trying to get their clients off because of the possible racial bias reflected in that shirt. hundreds of cases potentially. cri

says one d.c. police officer's he decision to wear a t-shirt many say has racist sympathomimetic beau list many on it could impact hundreds of cases and that could potentially put violent criminals back on the streets. we've already seen it once since an officer on seven d's so-called power shift has worn the t t-shirt. accord ing to a transcript of the august 1 hearing, did he dismissed a case against carlos johnson. and arrested by members of the small power shift unit. johnson was already on probation for a felony assault with a dangerous weapon conviction involving a gun. johnson's public defender raised the issue of the shirt. the idea behind it raising questions over whether or not the officers on the unit police-based on racial bias. that led to the judge's eventual decision to dismiss the case without prej

government could charge him again. i'm absolutely taking that example that i've seen and using that for my own purposes. been wits says any good defense attorney will bring up the controversial shirt in cases where officerses from that specific unit have arrested their clients and point to credibility issues for those officers. jurieses are depend ing upon thats of oner's credibility. judges are depend ing on the credibility. the whole system is dependent in a certain sense upon that credibility and this type of alleged activity depending on how deep it goes threatens that foundation. tuesday, d.c. police chief peter newsham said he was disappointed in the judge 's decision to dismiss the case against john sofnlt he says an internal investigation is underway and promises to find out how many people were involv ed in buying and wearing the shirts. we're going to take a look to see if it was more than one officer, what the intent of the officers were where they were wearing it and if there were ever any supervisory issueses that needed to be addressed. a

left chasing behind his mercedes driven by a man he just met. he actually sped off pretty fast. when he actually drove off our driveway coming into the complex , that's when i realized he had taken my car. he says this man agreed to meet him outside of his rocksville apartment complex after responding to the sales ad for the offer up for his mercedes he was selling for $8,000. it was very normal. he was very kind. he was very genuine. they test drove the car together. the suspect showed him his learner's driver permit and then asked if the suspect could show him this video so he could show his dad. thises was the last interaction the two had before the thef sped off without paying for the car. i chased after him and obviously he was gone before i got out of our driveway. when i realized he was taking our car i called the cops right away. now the victim is out of

citizens to vote in the city . the measure was supposed to be voted on flight, but that vote was postponed. fox5's lindsay watts is live in college park with more on this story. lindsay. tone initial council members decided tonight that they will revisit this issue next in and decide whether they will vote on this themselves or take the issue to voters. council members right now are meeting in executive session and you you can see over here that prince george's county plaintiffses are still on hand after those threats. the mayor says that some of the threats came from people outside this community and something important to know about the proposal it wouldn't allow non- citizens to vote for president, for congressman or for a state delegate. this would only pertain to l college park officials and college park ballot measureses. we had anticipated that we'd be talking to the mayor patrick he would january before this council meeting tonight to ask

these threats were specifically and if t they impacted the delay in tonight's vote at all. i did see wojan as he was going into the building. he didn't want to stop and talk. he did say earlier that one of his council members got a very serious threat. prince george's county police are now investigating. the homeland security division is involved. even though the measure at the center of this was tabled for now there were still people who came out and spoke during public comment both in favor and against it. the city council makes decisions on things like policing, like rent prices, whether there's enough crosswalks on baltimore avenue, things like that that effects people regardless of their citizenship status. to me it only makes sense as someone who cares about my friends who have statuses, but also just someone who believes -- believes in democracy and believes that all people should have a say in decisions that affect their

on edwards and he he built a prosthetic finger for his neighbor who injured his finger at work. he lost part of his finger after a car engine crashed on him. when his neighbor found out he wanted to help so he came up with the idea of building a prosthetic finger using magnetic piping and a wooden dowel. to me that was the most touching and inspirational thing i've ever seen in my life. it makes you feel great neing that i a actually have a special place in his heart. there are certain people now that can't afford the prosthetics that you have to buy and they can't do anything. and so if i can take this somewhere one day -- i want to try to do something. >> that's cool. hainey says he loves his new prosthetic. it protects his finger and still allows him to work on machines. >> i think it's a little engineer in the making and the training. >> and
