>> fire and fury, one of those nights. fire and fury part two president trump now doubles down on his war of words with north korea, a and he's not minutes g words. >> as you can see from the run dot, the hottest story here at 6:30. just remember, tweet us what's on your minds, as women. check out the tweet, he sent out this morning, the president. military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded. should north korea act unwisely, hopefully kim jong un will finds another path. tonight all eyes are turning to china now, because it has been seen as a key player in all of this. able to lean on north korea. but it is also clear that china has its limits. there are also now signs the country will back north korea, if the us initiates an attack. so a lot of movg
6:34 pm
still. >> let's bring in jamil, from the senate foreign relations committee, george mason school of law, jamil, how are you? >> good, jim, how are you. >> two nights, we had you on the 11:30, but things keep rapidly changing when north korea your take away from what the president said today? >> look, i think the president is getting tough. he is saying what should have been said for years, north korea is a real problem, their threats cannot go un addressed and he's too long address them and he's being serious about it. >> the president is saying one things, his advisors are using language much calmer and trying to kind of tamp down the situation. is it having much an effect, though, you know, across the world, what the advisors say versus what president trump is saying? is that creating a i shall knew. >> look, always a little bit of good cop bad cop. at the end of the day we want a solution where north korea backs off, stops being so aggressive. frankly work to give un its nuclear president, so the president is rightly being strong, aggress enough saying
6:35 pm
more the north koreans believe it, more likely, the more the chinese believe it, more likely they are to sort of back off and dot right thing here. >> all right, we've played it couple of times today. we'll skip it right now. but the president did say he's not going to get away it. there are people out there saying wait a second. he should tamp down on the rhett lick little bit. the reaction from other people look if the country is under threat, if there is a threat out, there you want the president to at least some sort of force out there. >> that's exactly right. look, we've had the same pulls nor korea for 20 some years, multiple presidents, at this point sort of push come to shove, i think the president is doing the right thing standing to up north korea, a they're not going to get away it, and frankly a lot of credibility, now stands by if push comes to shove. hopefully at the ends of the day able to find a path forward where we don't have to use force, but clear president trump is ready and willing to do that if needed. >> clearly we want to hear what president trump has to say on this, let's take a listen to sounds bite from earlier. >> and this
6:36 pm
away with what he is doing. believe me. and if he utters one threat in the form of over threat, which by the way, he has been uttering for years, and his family has been out for years, or if he does anything with respect to guam or any place else that's an american territory or an american ally, he will truely regret it and he will regret it fast. >> all right, so we heards that jamil. by the way, want to .1 thing out. reports every back channel communications going or for months now before this was -- it got to this point. diplomacy is a cycle thing. it always happens, always going on in some way shape or form, right. >> absolutely. look, we've been negotiating with north korea for years here, the thing is the north koreans responds to strength. i think the president did go tick too far about threats, but as general matter, the north koreans are
6:37 pm
mills ills -- missiles, got nuclear weapons, and at some point we have to say enough is enough, our allies, we're under threat, and we're not going to take it any more. >> this day was always coming, because of north korea's own actions, president trump has the ability to get them to back down and hopefully see it through. >> we'll see what happens after this. former advisor to the senate foreign relations committee, thank you so much. >> thank you. >> all right, so the president is out of town. but there is a lot buzzing, on capitol hill right now, no doubt about that. >> all right. between north korea of course and the mcconnell feud going on, former national political director for the dnc, spending err sullivan, here with us, right now. because obviously just talking about north korea, a i want both of your takes on what each side of the aisle is saying as to what the president's rhetoric is, what north korea's rhetoric is, what their thoughts on. expenser? >> one of the problems here is with diplomacy, with negotiations, you need to have credible threat on the table. credible threat of military force on the tab
6:38 pm
dangerous things going on right now within the united states is anyone who is trying to under cut that credible threat of the president of the united states, without that credible threat, of actual military force, actual strike, that we've seen in sewer why, the past couple every months, right, to bring north korean tots table with diplomacy, some type of negotiation, very tough to do. >> now, i would say that we have to act diplomatically. because as you mentioned earlier, there is china now, who will be a part of. >> this so we have to make sure that we are not being wreckless, and that we are being thoughtful, and we are being careful about what we're saying. because the rhetoric that he's using locked and loaded, not in the wild west, you know, so we have to make sure that we are moving in a way -- >> what should the press say then? if there is a threat out there. what language do you think the president should be using? >> yes, i think what we should do, look, we need to be strong. but we also need to be thoughtful about what's
6:39 pm
on. i think what he needs to dork he needs to bring in other folks that are allies, to say what are we going to do about this threat? that we have to america currently right now. >> look, do i wish that the dictator, north korea, who killed his own brother, massive among his own regime, was thoughtful and strong? no, he speaks in certain languages, and the president will speak in uncertain language, and i definately want to i am if a size one other point here, you know, the major pressure here should also be on north korea, also on china, right? i mean, does china want a failed state on their boarder? does china want these mass amount of imigrants if a war was to happen, if a military strike were to happen, all these imigrants going from north korea to china, they don't. so this is really for the chinese leadership to come in and put final pressure on north korea i mean, for months, for years, we talk about all of these sanctions, right? and how china is kind of laxidazical, only comes in the final moment. guess what,
6:40 pm
final moments, and president trump's trying to force that. >> sure. >> we got a lot to get to besides north korea let's talk about seems like it happened two weeks ago, but president trump talking about kind of calling mitch mcconnell out saying you need to get back to work, you need to get on healthcare. what is your response to the fact that the president is now calling out the senate majority leader who he's kinds of going down the line of his people and calling them out. is this a smart move? >> i come from a phrase called that says under promised and over delivered, right? i think we're seeing here frustrations on both sides. we see the white house frustration with legislation not getting passed. we see the members of congress frustration, because of these so-called arbitrary deadlines, right, in terms of these interviews, what not. so what i would say here, there is a lot of frustration to go along here, but mitch mcconnell is a great strategist, gotten an lot done with a very weak hands. >> let's talk, i want to bring you in on this one here, i'll say two words, you say this to any republican it, drivers him nuts, but there i
6:41 pm
in congress, who has been able to get their, their constituents behind them, that's nancy pelosi. you can't deny. that will so what, what can mitch mcconnell do to get everybody in line together, at least on his side of the aisle? >> look -- >> i know you probably don't want to see that happen. >> no, look, i want to see what's good for this country. i want to see waist good for america. i think that's what most americans want. they want effective and efficient government. they want to see congress passing laws that are going to be -- that will affect them on their bottom line. so, you know, as you said, the congress woman is a great leader and knows how to, as we like to say, in democratic politics, hurt cats. so you got to get your people in line, you got to say hey look this is what we need to do for the good of this country. >> all right, guys, we're out of town, thanks so much for coming in and talking about this today. >> thank you for having us. >> thanks for coming in. >> all right, well, if you haven't been paying attention, you know, if you are looking out your window in d.c. it, looks fine, you know what? ey

problems in virginia tonight. >> yes, let's head own to gwen with the latest on what's happening out there where the storm is right now. >> here is a look, we do severe under this earl storm warning until 7:00 for east central fauquier county and also west central prince william county. we did have a tornado warning, i'm happy to say that has ended. but these storms are still very strong, still very dangerous, and still very powerful. 70-mile per hour wind gusts and quarter size hail very possible. and awful lot of cloud to ground lightning, see along the i66 corridor, from gainesville, back to marshall, and all the way headed toward manassas, these storms are firing up, and, please don't go out in this if you really don't have to. because these storms are really pack ago big punch. we also have some hail course in here, also. and you can see pretty how widespread it is. we had system that's moving its way through, frontal system, out to the west front royal being impacted, some lightning there, that along with what we have ahead of it, and so this is all moving its way fairly rapidly, toward

east. also, we have a flood warning, flashflood warning in effect for sean endo an anwar end, that expires at 11:15. so, we're definately talking a chance of some highrise g waters here, as women. they've had a lot of heavy rainfall to some of the storms they've had. in the path of these storms, as they're firing up, moving their way to the east right now, gainesville, 6:47. chantilly, 6:54. burke at 58:00. mcclane at seven. and dc at 7:07. so we expect this to continue right through into the evening hours. and the impact of these being quite a bit as they continue to move their way through. here is a quick look at your fox5 accuweather seven day forecast, looking at showers, few storms for your saturday, as well. sunday looks like the best day of the weekends at eight a degrees during the week, temperatures go up and down above and below the seasonal average. we'll stay on top of the storms tonight f necessary, definitely come in, let you know what's happening with updates, if any of these storms

>> president trump national emergency, more than 100 americans dying from drug overdoses every day, which is more than number every people dying dale if i car crashes, against the deadly drug, and- really, is anybody can agree, something has to be done. >> it is a serious problem, the likes every which we've never had. you know, when i was growing up, they had the lsd, and they had certain generations of drugs, there has never been anything like what's happening to this country over the last four, five years. i have to say this, in all fairness, this is a world-wide problem. not just a united states problem. this is happening worlds wide. but this is a national emergency. and
6:47 pm
now to so a test. >> all right, doctor john dombrow ski, anesthesiologist, pain ma'amment specialist, to talk more about. >> this thanks for coming in, sir. >> thank you. >> what is it that you're seeing? obviously, pain management specialist watch are you seeing on a daily basis now? >> recreational drugs, kind of got hook, the others, accute, chronic pain, getting medication from their certain, internist, and got in trouble because that physician stopped giving them medication, started buying things on the street. >> so, i mean, how do you approach the problem, because i think in the past, there was sort of this one size fits all approach to drug addiction, now something that transends every social economic program, every demographic, how do you look at opioids in a way that's different from, you know, cocaine, and everything else out there? >> sure. good news, we have a lot of treatment now for t the main thing is there are two parts, one, treatme
6:48 pm
important with psychologists, psychiatrists, and we've done, that now there are implants that can be placed, to really help with you sobriety, keeps you sober for three months to perhaps a year. the other problem is, don't create the addicts. so, whether it is in like for acute pain management, chronic pain management, don't start you are on those, go to anesthesiologist, to look at injection therapy, medication management, things like, that so they don't go down that road of a pill bottle of oxycontin. >> that's the thing, people blame the medical community for creating at least part of this problem. are a lot of doctors out there scaling back, in not prescribing these types of medications, or are they still doing it, recklessly? >> the good news, and i might take exception with wreckless, now educating, that's what anesthesiologist cents do, chemists of the operating room. telling surgeon, internists how to manage theaceae february negatively. sends them to us. that's real important for that, so that doesn't happen. >> bee talk last night on the final five at 11:30, had a guy
6:49 pm
suggested that maybe the key to treating the opioid epidemic is by treating marijuana as more of a step down drug as opposed to weaning people off drugs altogether. does that seem a little unorthodox to you? >> obviously there are some evidence in the state of colorado where they have legalize philadelphia, a lot of the opioid overdoses in the emergency room has actually gone down, because there are certain parts of that marijuana that actually can be helpful, actually doing studies in terms of looking at that as a potential al equagesics or pain reliever. >> do you think this is something the medical community will be able to get a handle on when you hear about so many overdoses and issues and other parts of the country, ohio, and, you know, all of these place that is need additional place toss put bodies and things like that, when you hear that? i mean, out of control. >> i mean, it is tragic. if you look at 9/11, we lost 3,000 americans in one day. if you can think of a 9/11 every three weeks, we lose 3,000 americans due to open outs, first thing is education, and this is great opportunity to do that.
6:50 pm
these people some help. >> all right, doctor john, good to have you you in tonight. by the way worth mentioning there is transends politics altogether. do you have look at this, affect everybody out there. >> all right, thank you. we will be right back. hn... strawberries for amy... what's a jicama? thanks! take a fresh look at giant's produce prices.
