to the rescue of a elderly couple trapped inside of this fire in northern virginia. the news at 10 starts right now. >> joining us i'm sarah simmons in for sean. >> i'm tony perkens. we will begin with the strong storms tonight. >> thinks what it looked like in prince william and fairfax counties and i see here. fox five cameras catching heavy rain dark cloud and wind s, at one point earlier tonight, there was even a tornado warning out there. >> storms have also caused widespread power outages in northern virginia, take a look , right now, dominion is reporting 10,000 outages. there are also some outages being reported in d.c., and in maryland. >> all right lets get to gwenn and see what we can expect for the rest of tonight, and weekend too, hi there gwenn. >> not out of the clear yet. we have a lot of activity and radar is lit up, let me tell you. i'm still tracking this activity as it continues to move through the east,

look right now and bring you up to dayton exactly where we stan. so through can see it plenty of rainfall continuing to move through our area and these, still kicking up a lot of lightening, and this is as well and a lot of activity in terms of the heavy rainfall. that is a main, main concerns, as you take a look here where we have seen flooding issues in our neighborhood. so right now still seeing lightening, in some of these storms, as they continue to move their way through and we are, still seeing a lot happening through i-95 corridor as it makes its waye toward the bay. it is all associated with a frontal system heading through look at lightening, unbelievable. thinks where we did have a severe thunderstorm warning that has ended, however we're still dealing with some flood issues because of the rain. so flash flood warning in effect for prince georges county until 12:15 a.m., and then we will also have a flash flood warning for fox yard, warren and foreman as as, fairfax and prince

until 11:45. keeping an eye on this as heavy rainfall and storms continue, it is not over for the night yet, we will have details in the weekend forecast, sarah. >> thanks, gwenn. now to fairfax where a house caught on fire after being hit by lightening. this happened in the 9600 block of sarah line court. crew where is able to put the fire out. the house was badly damaged but luckily no one was hurt. new tonight two people are in serious condition after they were hit by a car in alexandria. it happened just before 8:00 between stevenson avenue and yocomb parkway. the driver of the car that hit them did remain at the scene. victims were taken to the hospital, there is no word on exactly what led, to that accident. this is a young lady, who was very excited about starting her college career down in florida in just about 10 days, and now she's in a hospital, struggling for her life. >> district police are still searching forwo

in a shooting that has left a 17 year-old girl in grave condition. tonight, she's fighting for her life. >> she was hit by stray bullet driving through northeast yesterday afternoon and we have learned through sources that the teen's mother works for d.c. police too fox 50's lindsey watts live with the latest, lindsey? >> reporter: well, tony and sarah police did make one arrest in this case, but tonight they are still searching for two additional suspects. this happened, not far from where we are right here at fifth district headquarters about a mile away, and what a horrific crime. we are not identifying, the victim but i have spoken to people close to her, and they are devastated. this is a young woman with so much going for her. she was just about to go off to college. family and friends are asking for privacy but we did speak to two of the girls neighbors. >> i invited myself to her graduation party because i saw the balloons and everything, and, went i

her and i was just really excited for her and this is, a tragedy. sweet girl, sweet girl. >> you know you cannot go down street and somebody will be out there shooting and you get shot, innocently and now this kiddies 17 year-old. she won't get to see the university that she got into. that is terrible. >> here's a look at the crime scene from yesterday, saratoga and montana avenues in the northeast. white sedan is car that the victim was driving when she was shot. according to the police report , two men were hiding in the bushes on the side of the road, and then, opened fire, at a group of people across the street. the 17 year-old just happened to be driving by at the time. a second person who was on foot was also shot, hit in the back side. we talked to a d.c. activist tonight who says that even with the decline in violent crime in the district, there is more that need to be done. he believes, that there should

that the man's body was found long a trail that connects a series of town homes. there is a reward, of up to $25,000, for any information, that lead to an arrest. to montgomery county where we now know the name of the man found dead in a creek in the bethesda. police found the man's body in blues creek stream veil park last night. he has been identified as 40 year-old daniel taylor evans of sykesville. police say evans had recently been reported missing. it is unclear how he died or how long he had been in the water. howard county police arrested and charged a suspect in the robbery and assault at columbia mall. police identified the suspect as 22-year old aalayha rockwell. video shows her fighting a merry go round employee in the mall after she allegedly tried to steel some cash, from the register. the employee confronted her video shows rockwell grabbed would the man's hair and then threw her to the ground. she faces charges for robbery, theft and assault. a virginia man is behind bars tonight,

sexually assaulting a child. police arrested 21 year-old chris ton flores hernandez of manassas. she had an inappropriate relationship of a 12 year-old girl. hernandez has been charged with rape and being held without bond. president trump is not dialing back his rhetoric against north korea. earlier this evening he once again warned of big trouble if north korea launches an attack on guam or any other u.s. territory oral i. >> the president held a news conference at his estate in new jersey, where we will get latest from fox's joe wallman. >> reporter: president tripling down continuing his sharp word to north korea warning an attack of any sort will not be tolerated. >> if anything happens to guam , there will be big, big trouble in north korea. >> reporter: flanged by members of the his national security team the president offering reassurances to guam, as tensions mount between north korea and

a quick thinking maintenance worker is being credited with saving an elderly couple trapped in an apartment fire. that man also helped several other resident get out safely. this happened in the fairfax community of. edwin ran in the to the burning building putting himself in danger. tonight, he spoke only to fox five about why he did it. >> i tried my best. it is very hot. i am happy. everybody is okay. >> at lee four families have been displaced by the fire. at last check the victims were recovering in the hospitale hosl burns. investigators are still working to figure out how it started. we have an update on gavin grim, a transgendered teen from gloucester county who was fight to go use the bathroom that matches his gender identity. today grim's lawyers amended their complaint against the school district's discriminatory bathroom policy they are dropping their request for a

injunction. this comes after a appeals judges ruled that the 18 year-old may not be able to pursue the case since he graduated high school in june. aclu says grim's decision now clears the way for them to litigate his case in district court based on title nine discrimination. we have developing news from denver now, earlier this evening a judge threw out civil case filed against taylor swift, former dj david mueller was accused of groping the pop star before a cons inert 2013. he denied he did anything wrong and claim he lost his job because of the accusation. so, he sued swift for $3 million. the judge tossed the case saying mueller did not prove he lost his job because of her but his suit against taylor's mother and radio liaison will go to the jury. panel also also will consider the counter suit that mueller assaulted her. what a mess. all right. we have a bizarre story, an 81 year-old maryland woman was arrested for trying to use

this fire fighter dressed as a dinosaur playing drive by hoops in different neighborhood. that is a thing. maybe police, maybe they are trying to top this. what you are about to see is no joke, it clearly took a whole lot of effort, a group of officers, with the community policing team, put on their swimming caps and one by one, they hit the water, and one even breaks out a life preserver before he jumps in. these guys say that they came up with the idea as a way to to promote a block party and entice citizens to come out. they have zero experience with synchronized swimming but they watched video on line, took it from there and they do an a nation job. they came up with these impressive moves on the fly and a lot of the effort, that they took, it is pretty obvious. it took them several days, for four separate shoots to nail this. >> time to go back and jump in the pool 20 times because it just was not

shot in the head yesterday in north east d.c. >> right now police are still looking for more suspects lindsey watts on this story tonight. she's live with the very latest. >> jim and sarah police arrested one suspect today, but tonight they are still looking for two additional men , associated with this crime. and just a horrible crime, 17 year-old who was driving the white car you see in the video , caught in the cross fire of a shooting. this was at saratoga and montana avenues in the northeast. we are not identifying the victim tonight but we can tell thaw she graduated from a d.c. high school and was just days away from attending college in florida. according to our sources her mother works for d.c. police. at last check the victim remains in grave condition at the hospital. and police are investigating a deadly shooting in atlanta, officers said a man shot to death in the 7,000 block of palimar turn this morning.

uber is changing how they travel. new study shows people are re line the on the ride sharing services they are choosing not to buy a car. several university conducted the study, they looked at riders habits in austin, texas after sitting ordinance kicked in. that ordinance banned services like uber and lyft. they found 9 percent of people surveyed bought a car to fill that travel void, 42 percent used another ride sharing company, and 41 percent drove their car. if you are concerned about being in the friendly skies during upcoming solar eclipse scientists say don't be. eclipse won't effect flights, noticeable change will occur when sky goes dark and if you
