we have seen protests and rallies nothing like that in charlottesville, people were welcoming the calm even though they're continuing to grief. through the date folks leaving flowers for victim heather heyer. you can see the pile at the corner and we'll take walk down the street, this is the road where heyer died. where you saw that video where the car plowed into the crowd, and then backed up and fled. you can see people have been writing messages on the sidewalk, then down here, there are many flowers and candles and other mementos. tonight, questions remain about how violence got so bad here on saturday, that more than 35 were injured. and a woman lost her life. >> absolutely i have regrets. >> the charlottesville police chief continues to face questions about how the violence got so out of hand on his watch. some claiming officers were reluctant to intervene saturday as protesters and counter protesters

community, you can just still see on people's faces that they are devastated by this. of fortunately, since the car attack here on saturday, there hasn't been any major violence but the police chief said today, that since then, there have continued to be reports about violence and assaults that happened here on saturday, so much so, that charlottesville is setting up a tip line for people to report that violence so it can be investigated. lindsey watts fox 5 local news. we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides. on many sides. >> those were the president's words on saturday. his choice to not name the white supremacist groups involved and equally condemn both sides sparked outrage over the westbound. but this afternoon, the president changed his tune on the charlottesville violence in a carefully worded address,

touting the success of the stock market and job growth. then addressed the events in charlottesville adding a message his critics say he should have included three days ago. >> racism is evil. and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the kkk. neo nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as americans. >> not the first time president trump come under fire for a similar issue. during his 2016 campaign, he was criticized for not immediately denouncing the support of former kkk leader david duke. fairfax police are trying to find the man who attacked a woman walking in the middle of the day in a reston neighborhood. police say man dragged the woman into the woods and tried to remove her clothes. but her screams drove him away. fox 5 evan lambert is in the neighborhood tonight. and

police have leads in this case? >> tony they do have a basic description of that attacker and his car. they are working with the victim to flesh out all the details but the woods here, they're not extremely thick and that is exactly what may have saved this woman. skyfox flew over the crime scene off north shore drive in the tall oaks section of reston, police say around 2:30 this afternoon, a man grabbed a 22-year-old woman, she was walking along the sidewalk and the man dragged her into the woods. investigator says the man tried removing her pants but the woman screams alerted neighbors and that scared the man off. police say he got into a car and left the area. neighbors tell us tonight they're nervous and feel unsafe doing most basic things, walking dogs and going to and from the gym. >> it's kind of troubling. you know, we walk around here, through the woods all the time with a dog and a

she'll do the same thing in the morning, at night. it's kind of -- concerning someone that, you know, has been living here so long. >> reporter: and police tonight have described the attacker's car as a gray four-door sedan either a hyundai or a honda and they say the first letter of the license plate is v. obviously, no one caught the rest of that license plate but this is not the only abduction and assault that fairfax county police are investigating. they say last night, a 5-year-old was abducted and assaulted. she was later returned to her family. right now, they have not connected both of these crimes. live in reston, evan lambert, fox 5 local news. a dc firefighter is recovering in the hospital tonight after a group of people attacked him on the scene of an emergency call, but now his job is in question. fox 5 marina marraco live in the district with more on this. marina? >> reporter: yes, sarah

tonight after allegations surface that day this firefighter was drunk on the job. now, this played out yesterday morning. this happened in southeast near the bending community playground on 37th street, lamont jennings said he called 911 when his three-year-old daughter fell off the bed, hurt her neck and back. once emergency crews showed up. neighbors suspected one of the firefighters was actually drunk on the job. the firefighter tried treating the toddler but that's when the family refused and things got physical. >> he started falling up the steps. so he drunk, everybody like he drunk. that's when i kicked in my mind, he drunk. of my daughter could have been dying, anybody could have been dying. could have been a life or death situation. and these two came not ready for the job. >> reporter: fire official says the ten-year veteran was beaten so badly he suffered a broken jaw.

a car plowed into a group of apartment white supremacists protesters, several other demonstrators were hurt. today, attorney general jeff sessions said the protesters who were injured in last weekend's violence had their rights violated. >> heather heyer was out protesting racism and bigotry. she has right to do that. this individual had no right to drive car into them and kill people and killing her. justice will be done. we're coming after these people. it will not be tolerated. it cannot be tolerated in america. >> anti-defamation league said it cannot just focus on one weekend in charlottesville. they're demanding the justice department expand the investigation to a national focus on hate groups. . two popular web companies are taking a stand against white supremacist groups, yesterday go daddy told the white supremacist side the daily stormer it was

by wednesday but it will at that point be starting a race away. that does mean if you're at the beaches the surf will be rust and the rip current will be dangerous and that goes four bermuda as well as the east coast beaches, very glad it's not going to make a land fall. impressive looking on satellite. look at the out flow that you can see, we could see an eye earlier. and that is one strong storm and it will enter into an area in the next 24 hours where it can lose the wind battering it. locally we've been dodging clouds and a few showers first batch that moved across maryland is about to exit maryland now. then there's a little bit more trying to come up from the south, it doesn't look healthy but maybe some of our southern suburbs south and west could have showers overnight and then as we look at our storm tracker radar, we have a scattering of storms across maryland, central but the bulk of them moving away as you can see we'll put them in motion for last couple of hours, most were north of
