it. >>reporter: that is a big reason why the fairfax county police are out here in force. take a look at this. these are detectives and officers here who have assembled in the neighborhood in the mount vernon section of fairfax county. they are about to go into the neighborhood where this attack took place and they are going to bring with them this sketch. this is the sketch police say is responsible for this attack against this five-year old girl on sunday. their goal is simple they want to get this in front of somebody, somebody who might recognize this person, even better somebody who might know who he is. this neighborhood is right over here. it's right down the street. we went in there today and started talking to residents, residents who again and again and again told us that they had no idea that this a attack had happened in their very home on sunday. they told us today right now they are not only on alert they are on edge. i am

are people on both sides of this who have sincere and thought out reasons for why they feel the way they do. take a look at con dangerous deliveries lisa rice. she is in support of keeping these confederate statues. she says that we should leave them. we should leave the names of slave owners on buildings. if we've them you're sanitizing history to make yourself feel better. in instead we should confront those status and remind ourselves of the history. not everyone agrees with that as we said gone ofer larry hogan making the decision to remove the tan i statue. many of you feel it's time to take them down . take a listen. i don't have a problem with taking them down along with the confederate flag. from my understanding a lot of these statues were put up well after the civil war. although some weren't and

putting them up at that time would have an act of try son. i think that's a big difference about remembrance and reference i think it would be a lot kinder to do it based off the painful legacy that that means to a lot of people. i feel that they should be removed. they symbolize hatred, bigotry and and a part of our history that is not a proud moment so i don't see any issues with them being removed. as for this statue here in the district, the mayors press secretary pointed out that this actually lies on national park service land and that she does believe it should be re moved and there should actually be a public forum for citizens and residents to weigh in on which figure they feel should replace this statue. now , of course we've got a live ly debate going on social media. weigh in, make sure your voice is heard. we'll be back on 5@6:30 with the pulse of the people. reporting

afternoon. lindsay watts is on the scene now with more. lindsay. >>reporter: sarah and jim, fairfax county police it was a woman who was struck and killed by a pickup truck. happened on boweller \street\{~}#n{#o}street\{~}stree t{-|} near fan cone yeah springfield parkway. the driver of the truck did stay on scene. the truck was toed out of here just a little l while ago. police and firefighters are continuing to conduct an investigation. i want to show you some cellphone video. we were alerted to this by a viewer who happened to be driving by right after this occurred around 26789. forty-five. we'll take you to sky fox video now. you can see the red pickup truck in this footage. again, police say the driver did stay on scene and also that the driver suffered some kind of medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital.s it's not clear at this point if that medical emergency caused the crash or happened after the crash. you can also see some other cars in the footage.

are people who stopped to help. unfortunately the woman who was hit died on scene. back here live now the crash has closed southbound boweller street at fan cone yeah springfield park i way. we had a little trouble getting here as you can imagine this has caused some residual traffic problems. again, a woman who was walking was struck and killed by a pickup truck. that driver did stay on scene suffering some kind of medical emergency and was taken to the hospital. that driver is expected to survive. we'll have more of fox5 at five after this.

he was taken to the hospital where he later died. also in the district three women are in police custody during an overnight robbery that led to a wild police chase. along minnesota avenue southeast. the pursuit ended on 19th southeast between p and q streets. police say three suspects jumped out of the car and tried to get away but police quickly them into custody. one officer fired his gun but no one was hurt. this man is wanted in connection with a robbery at a car dweelership on northern virginia on june 26 it happened at ji she nissan. jonathan thorton was carrying a handgun when he entered the side door of the dealership, demanded money and then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash. prince george's county police made two arrests in an ongoing effort in an effort to crack down on police stealing cars. a 17 year old boy are charging with breaking into two cars.

. they have policies on what you can say not only when you're at work, but when you're not at work because most people social media identify where they work, what they do and where they go to school and it's totally legal for these employer ses to have these policies. there are on restrictions, for instance, the national labor relations act say s that you can't have a policy where you ban concerted activity, things like voting for a union or encouraging a union the at work, but things like race, speech, hate speech, even just political speech that can be -- employers can ban that. i find when we're talking about first amendment issues one of the imhon first amendment people fall into people can say i can say whatever i want to whomever i want whenever i want. we didn't craft the constitution but that's generally meant to voice optician to the government not in general. do you find that people often like to cherry pick certain parts of free speech and the constitution for their
