to kill my child to shut her up guess what, you just magnified her. >> and oonorring the woman killed in the charlottesville prote the. the out powering of love for heather heyer. the news at ten starts right now. we begin tonight with the fox a five exclusive, a concerned citizen sent us these pictures of the dirty conditions inside a d.c. firehouse. thanks for joining us tonight, i'm shawn yancy and i'm tony perkins t. these deplorable conditions is what first responders return to after taking care of emergencies in our city t. the conditions are inside engine company 27 in northeast. fox5's marina maracco is live to show us more marina. >>reporter: tony, shawn, concerned silts sense as fire crews who did not want to go on camera sounding the alarm about the conditions they call deplorable in the dean wood neighborhood

is engine company 27. you can see for yourself what the inside looks like, water damage, ceiling that is sagging, dekrep it walls and cabinets. in d.c., fire crews they work 24 hour shichts and then they spend seven t hours off. basically in that 24 hour period they live, they ethan they sleep here. fire crews hearsay that these issues are nothing new. these are issues that have been playingen engine company 27 for years. this e-mail that comes to the fox newses room complain ing and asked us to check it out. there are trash bagses over windows to allegedly keep the heat in, mold issueses, flooded storm drains as well as rodent issues. our camera crews hearsay they complaints have fallen on deaf ears. they're one of the busier firehouses in town and we've been witness today

we reached out to local 36, the fire union here in town. we spoke with dap necessity hudson he's the president for local 36 he told us fox5 he could not comment without all the facts but says our information request was the first he'd heard of in months regarding the issues here at engine 27. as for d.c. fd we reached out for a comment and they say, quote, the d.c. fire and ems dwept was not made aware with any concerns surrounding the safety or working conditions at engine 27 prior to your inquiry. but nonetheless, the pictures and information you have provided to the department have raised some serious concerns. we will take an immediate review of the complaint received and make repairs to any and all valid dis repair areas to engine 27. d.c. fire also telling fox5 that for now they're expecting engine company 27 to be relocated and rebuilt. they're hoping to break ground

tonight in northeast, marina maracco, fox5 local news. >> new tonight, check your bank statements. more credit card skimmers are cropping up across our area. this time it's in prince william county and now they're going high tech. thie ves hit five atms in woodbridge, but they're also targeting pumps at gas stations as well. fox5 lindsay watts is live with more on how you can stop the skimmer scammers before they clean you out. lindsay. >>reporter: tony by now most people have heard of credit card squirms. they're devices that thieves use to steal your credit card information. by now you've likely heard before you insert your card at an atm at a gas station, check out the credit card he reader. make sure everything looks okay. some of these new skimming devices are going high tech t. the technology is advancing so they they can be hard

they're also using bluetooth, though, so that's helpful to you . you can go to settings on your phone, go to blue tooth and then here under devices look for any weird sequenceses of numbers or letters or characters and see that know you may be near another skimming device. one other thing to look out for this is meant to keep people from tampering if the gas pump and it should be obvious if that seal has been broken. we'll show you what to look for. police provided us of examples of security seals and what they look like before and after being tampered with. police l also gave us some additional photos outside and inside atms with skimming devices on them. i talked to one man here at the gas station who sayses he always takes a close look before insert ing his card because he's been ripped off before. i was checking my statement online and

to remember her daughter for her belief in equality and justice. i was overwhelmed at the rainbow of colors in this room. that's how heather was. it didn't matter who you were or where you were from, if she loved you you, thats was it. you were stuck. so for that i'm truly proud of my daughter. as i listened to her friends around hear stories of my dawt daughter and the way shes was, she loved people. she wanted equality, and in this issue of the day of her passing she wanted to put down hate. she was a firm believer in whatever she believed and let's do that. let's find that spark of conviction.

friday and saturday. q. the protests in charlottesville have heightened the debate about confederate symbols across the country. virginia governor terry mcauliffe is calling on communities to take down their confederate monuments. yesterday he said communities should decide for themselveses. overnight the city of baltimore removed all four of its confederate monuments, the baltimore city council voted unanimously to remove them on monday. the city's mayor had them removed in the early morning hours to avoid potential conflicts. i think any city that has confederate statues are concerned about violence occurring in their city. and i just think that baltimore right in the midst of getting the con sent decree completed, this is not something that is needed i think we should work together, figure out how we move our city forward. there are also calls tonight to remove 12

statues i'm side of the us capital building. the fallout continues tonight from president trump's remarks on charlottesville. a number of ceos resigned and today the president announced via twitter that he was dissolving two of his business councils. the president tweeted rather than putting pressure on the business people of the manufacturing council and strategy and policy forum i am ending both. both of those councils were set up to advise mr. trump on economic policies and poa cuss on creat ing new jobs. today we talked to an expert about why businesses are often forced into the political space. the political conversations have grown more heated over time april the center has grown smaller. so maybe in the past where business leaders occupied the center more comfortably is that now that's the edges on both sides are calling on them to weigh in on different things more actively. >> before president trump endeds those councils, cos present campbell's

>> fox5 is in the district where a restaurant in the northeast found a discrete way for customers. the ocean air seafood room is charging customers a 3 percent fee. the reason appears in fine print below the signature line of the receipts. the cost of doing business in d.c. as well as high minimum wage rates. yes, there are some closings, but with that there are so many new restaurants and there's a lot of excitement in the industry as a whole. that's why you see so many restaurants continuously looking at ways to change their environment. let's justifies it if something new opens and if there are 50 new restaurants that are opening in the city the question will be what are you do ing to remain active and relevance in a very competitive market. we spoke to the consumers office. they say a form l al complaint will have to

like 83. most places feel like they're in the 730s and we're noticing a little dry air here and there. we have a couple of lingering showers. around the dale city we had a little bit of down pour moving southeast through prince william county. down toward culpeper, spotsylvania, it is weakening out as it approaches 90 as is the activity down towards spots vine yeah. we expect to see a bit more cloud cover and some showers and storms popping up and the main feature is going to be heavy rain and that's because a warm front is going to come through. we're going to get warm and even more humid if you can believe that as high pressure moves off the coast and that's why we see the temperature ranging from 85 to about 90 tomorrow as our storm chances return in the afternoon it's about a 40 percent chance that ul you'll see in your neighborhood.

comes you have to make sure you have everything you you need to view the eclipse properly. fox 's terrence garn yea has more >>reporter: if you're catching a glimpse of the solar eclipse do it properly or risk your chance of losing your sit permanently. it can damage your retina and some of these damages could be transyept and some of them could be permanent. when the eclipse darkens the sky that is not a signal to look up. the sun emits the same amount of radiation whether you can see the visible light or not. the problem during the eclipse is that you're going to be more susceptible to damage because you're not going to get the warnings of mother nature of before it in to tell you to look away. one of the east ways to do this is to buy a certified pair of eclipses glasses. when you purchase your solar eclipse glasses make sure they're labeled t

will indicate that they will protect your eyes. you will only need these glasses if you plan on looking directly at the eclipse. if you don't have them there are other ways to look at it italy. look under a tremendous for the protections of the sun. make little holes between your fingers let the sunlight look through that and you'll get the same effect. the glasses will be no help. do not use a camera, a set of binocular s, telescopes, even your cellphone, do not view through these even if you're wearing the iso stamped approved protective eyewear. while it might seem a lot of preparation, experts say it is totally worth it. assuming the sky is clear and this all doesn't happen behind the clouds i can actually say to you you're not going to be the same again. nasa has disee claird

one cut day september 2 when teams have to get down to the three man roster they're going to bring into the season. the rest of camp at practice today. redskins coaches didn't have much in the way of good tape to review from last week's pre season opener. so they're going to use the last three pre- season games in every practice between now and september 2 to make their final roster decisions. we're also not going to discount what we've done at otas and training camp. it's all an evaluation process and they have to understand that these games, you know, playing in these games is not a punishment, it's a platform for them to do well. so we're excited to see them take advantage of the reps, with the crowd and the fans and the pressure and all that stuff t. that's important. >> angels and nats, a little noon baseball. ryan zimmerman bottom of the first wearing the shades because i
