date, a misrepresenting science, to promote a diet that avoids all animal foods. the documentary taking the stands that milk has a link to cancer, and that eggs are just as bad for you as cigarettes. joining us this morning to debunk some of these myths, talk about what sees as the real risk; doctor ivan hernandez, good to see you again. >> hi, how are you? >> thank you for coming in. you and i were talking, this really strikes fear in people when they watch this film. and it really does leave them with a question, well, what can i eat? >> yes. i know. what the hell do i do now? what do i eat? i think they do make valid point. i can't argue against the importance of eating a plant-rich diet. can't make that argument. eliminating processed meats. that's another valid argument that i could make that i could apply to my own clientele and endorse. but i think where they went wrong is that they kind of lump all meats together. not all meats are created eq

animal feeding operations, where they're caged, they're living in their fecal matter. so of course they'll be exposed to toxins, they'll expose to sicknesses that are ultimately going to affect us. >> that's not the case with free range chickens? >> free change, cage free, while fish, those are different. then the other thing they don't talk about the way in which it should be cook when we expose meats to high temperatures, that's when we expose ourselves to more cars inch owe generals. so we can't char foods. we can't grow, especially in the summertime when we have barbeques, we can't grill too much. because that's going to expose us to it. the other thing they under emphasize sugar. sugar -- >> sugar is the devil. >> mounting evidence to point that sugar is tightly associated with met aboulic dysfunction, with cholesterol issues, with diabetes, with obesity. so i think they conveniently leave that out. my argument is that we have evolved to be metabolically flexible to use fat for fuel, but also, to use carbohydr

and when we consume too much carbohydrates, we lose that ability to use fat for fuel. >> so this is always my question. when someone is so anti-meat, we are cash voicer, designed to eat meat. how can it be so bad for us? maybe we're not preparing it right, or maybe not -- but aren't we funds mentally designed to eight meat? >> i think that we could make the argument that we're omniverse, that we can eat plant and animals, it is the way in which we're eating the foods that is getting us into trouble, the type, the process meats, the way in which we're eating, and i think the bigger thing is the sugar we're eating. i can't leave that and not emphasize that enough. the sugar that we're eat something really bad. so it is really a function of eating whole foods, sticking to the perimeter of your supermarket when you're eating foods, sticking with -- staying away from processed meats, processed

is really multi factorial. although food is very important, we're moving 90% less than our ancestors just a hundred years ago, so we need to move more. some statistics show we're sitting to up 15 hours a day. >> the guy who ate the pizza for 365 days, as long as he was active? >> if you go vegan, you have cart blanch stat us to eat anything and as much as you want as long as it is plant-based but the truth of the mat is her could you gain weight and be unhealthy on a vegan diet. so there is no panacea. there is no singular die that's applies to everyone world-wide. >> here is my question. because when something, a film like that comes out, and it says it has experts in it, and, you know, it is well produced and it is giving all of these science fact, how do we know what to believe and whatnot to believe. >> the deaf sill in the detail. if you look at the interview east, they were all vegans, so of course you'll have bias dollars argument. what they conveniently
