and over in texas things are not looking good. >> through the entire week they'll have to deal with this it's not moving anywhere at all. we'll bring you up to date in terms of details on the monster storm. infrared satellite showing a vast raining of area it continues to impact with plenty of rainfall and tropical storm force winds extending 115 miles from center of the storm which is currently 10 miles northeast of victoria, texas. the bands of heavy rain nush from the northwestern gulf inland to louisiana and it's just become pretty common for 20 to 27" basically to be the average for the houston area unfortunately and with another 15 to 25" of rainfall anticipated over the next several days and as mentioned earlier by the reporter that some areas will see locally up to 50" of rainfall. it c

portion of it as well over the water and that's not a good thing. tropical storm warnings in effect as well as tornado owe watches and warnings for the coastal area and inland as well and we're talking copious amounts of rainfall flooding out roads and bridges and all kind of things as well as no power as that's been mentioned also. >> for us here at home we had a coastal flood advisory that ended for st. mary's that's good news. temperatures for us into the 60s and 0s. oh, i have a few 50s on the man. it's getting cool out there. 64 for the overnight low and taste of fall in the air. but it will heat up bit end of the week again. i'll have the details later, marina. >> thanks, gwen. urban search and resue from maryland and virginia hit the road to help officials in texas respond to disastrous flooding in the houston area. special trained groups from fairfax and montgomery counties are heading south to focus on water rescues. firefighters from montgomery country fire rescue left rockville about 7:00 they are headed on that 20 hour trip to the disaster he zone to houston. to help with water rescue. this is video of that group leaving rockville this eve evening. they are called the maryland task force one. a fema equipped and trained group and firefighters from montgomery country fire rescue taking big rigs, boats, rescue equipment to them to the houston area and fema decides where they are needed once they get there and this group volunteered to get on the national water rescue team and they'll be in houston 10 to 14 days and besides that rescue equipment, they have enough supplies to be totally self-sufficient to live off of for that entire period.. chief scott goldstein says this group in particular has expertise me those water rescues. >> specialized training we have the

neighborhood and that's a well known sophisticated rapid water area. these folks have that same level of training and these are all swift water rescue technicians and ready to go and operate in this water environment and heavily trained in concrete breaking. doing that type of collapsed concrete structure rescue operations. >> and the montgomery county team is joined by another group from fairfax country fire rescue. these are pictures of that team leaving for houston earlier this afternoon. they left around 3:00. both of these groups are part of a larger network of fema supported groups about 28 all across the country that respond to these national -- natural disasters and help local authorities when they're dealing with overwhelming amount of water rescues. live in rockville, evan lambert, "fox5 local news". >> breaking right now, the remains of all ten u.s. sailors

mccain were recovered. the navy sailors were named missing monday after their warship collided with an oil tank every in the pacific ocean east of singapore. that caused significant damage for the ship making it difficult to find the missing men. it's fourth time this year u.s. navy vessel is involved in a major collision. >> and breaking in the district now a water rescue is underway in potomac river near the key bridge. witnesses tell d.c. fire and ems two people wept into the water and never resurfaced and rescue crews successfully removed one of the victims from the water. that person's condition at this point unknown. crews are trying to locate the second victim. >> tropical storm arvey having a major impact on travel. >> this story live from dils, hey, lindsay . >> hey, guys, you would not know it now but more than 100 international travelers were diverted here to dulles tonight. we'll show what you

storm it's been a long day of traveling for some several days enough to lose track. >> delayed from saturday morning to these are international travelers whose united flights were diverted to dulles and people here are flying from brazil, argentina, turkey and peru. somewhere flying to houston and others just had connecting flights there. >> we came from the plane and told us not houston and the airport is not in conditions and so we came to washington we don't know if we can catch the plane to chicago or not i think there's a plane in half an hour. >> we asked people what they anded when they boarded planes and most knew about the storm and hoped for the best. >>

>> we're back with more on tropical storm harvey. the rain is expected to last for days. >> national weather service says when it's finally over some areas of texas could see four feet of rain. harvey is to blame for five deaths and more than a donz injuries and authorities fear that toll will go higher. lauren demarco has been in the thick of this historic storm. >> she joins us now live from dickinson texas with more. you can see the water behind you i believe you're at the traffic light. >> reporter: yeah, hey, ma marina, lauren, i'm on top of interstate 45 looking over what was a road big intersection and there were streets that would lead on to the interstate. and now it is just one big rushing river and the current

we were watching rescue boats go up and down here throughout the day. what they've been doing is rescuing people who were stuck in homes that war trapped there. they have been bringing them here to interstate 45. it's been a staging area where buses will pick them up and take them to various shelters in gal ofes ton county and marina, lauren the tragic thing we've been seeing families to elderly couples with trash bags of what is their possessions and when they get back there may not be much less. >> we saw pictures out of the nursing home earlier tonight. eltd already i people with water up to their chest and just looked awful. and they all got out safely? >> yeah, they did. so that ws nursing home here in galveston country and there were two dozen elderly folks and workers that got trapped there in the rushing water.

image seeing that water sitting at the waist line of those folks unable to do anything. we know everyone was safely rescued and they're now back in areas where they're being taken care of. truly devastating and shows you how fast a lot of this flooding happened in this air very much under a flash flooding. marina, lauren. >> any idea why they were not evacuated faster. >> that is it. that's what happened. a lot of people were asleep when this started happening and woke up realized their floors were covered in water and it was rushing in and a lot of people in this area simply were caught off guard. they did not realize how fast this was going to happen. and as you can see, this water is not going anywhere. it's come very quickly and it's now just piling up and we're expecting another night of

front yard blown straight out of the warehouse next door and don got emotional thinking about his surf shop. he's concern today may be a total loss as most of the misdemeanor was rurned when the roof leaked and ceiling partially fell in. >> we had this building since 1969. we did not have this much damage from cilia. so, it is kind of a surprise. >> most of the water damage appears to be from pounding rain rather than storm surge as predicted and torrential rain and strong winds caused damage to many roofs including this auto parts business. >> we'll rebuild it will take time but we'll get there. >> workers stood in rock for the for the storm and next time he'll evacuate. >> i was at my house and the door is trying to push open. french doors trying to -- big treel trees falling and huge oak trees pushed right over. >> walker says he has insurance to help him rebuild. and many residents say they do not.

to 30 cents. >> drivers on the road would not be the only ones facing higher costs. >> many commercial airlines could also see a rise in gas prices and meaning ultimately you could end up paying the difference when you buy a ticket. >> the storm that lingers as this is expected to do over the western gulf could have impact in shipping. >> impact at sea has economists most concerned houston is home to more than 100 chemical plants businesses that make things like fertilizer and plastic used to make car parts and toys and yes. >> even your iphone. many of the plastic parts are shipped to countries like china where the finished product is created and then shipped back to the u.s. >> the materials are shipped out of the houston ship channel a route meteorologistists are watching for storm serj with so much at stake leaders in texas are not taking this storm likely. a page ar disaster declaration was issued.

unleash torrents of rain that could last for days. national weather service says the storm could dump up to 50" of rain in parts of state. texas governor greg abbott urged residents to get out of harm's way. always tried to seek the high ground whether you're on ground or in a building. get as high as you can. and try to avoid going outside if you don't need to. >> and again emergency responders are asking people to donate fwots help with rescue efforts. >> help is on its way to texas from our area. earlier this evening more than a dozen montgomery county firefighters left for the flood rav amid region and fire fighters are part of fema urban search and rescue task force helping with water rescues and firefighters br bringing with them rigs, boats and rescue equipment to the houston area and another team from fairfax country also left today for texas. fema activated both teams earlier today to help

to the natural disaster. >> and a bit of good news here a storm chaser managed to track down more than harvey this weekend. >> he also found and reunited a lost dog with the family. erin jade jack was traveling from austin to victoria texas when he spotted the dog he was trying to get gas and pulled over and the dog started following his vehicle and eventually juneed inside. jack posted a message on social media. i need help trying to find the owner. so if you can share, tweet, whatever you got to do to help. >> within an hour jack's message got 5,000 retweets and that helped cash get reunited with his owners. jack appeared on fox and friends today to tell the story. >> within an hour i was not sure it was the owner i had multiple people telling me it was the owner sure enough it was and i took him back last night. >> cash the dog was so excited whene

it well, things are really still fired up as far as texas is concerned. this is massive storm as you know and it's actually just spreading itself well out parts of louisiana, other states along the gulf coast and more north are affected as well and we are seeing this really not moving very much at all. it's just basically drifting and good portion of the storm is still over the gulf and that's not a good thing. because it's continuing to pick up this water and just spin and dump it and it's also feeding itself on own rain that it actually dumped as well. they're getting a real punch here as far as the wet weather is concerned and that is really not only the problem we have the storm surge and winds and also got all the storms that are firing up and we've had tornado watches and warnings as well and here's areas we actually still have tropical storm warning in effect and elsewhere here we have advisories too. so a lot happening here as we know in the south. so here's a look at

totals so far. houston gal ofeston area has received in areas more than 27" of rainfall and in the last 24 hours or so this is become almost common unfortunately. also on top of this they're going to continue to get another 15 to 20 or more" of rainfall. we're talking locally totals that could reach up to 50" of rainfall. so they're still not out of the clear and we still have a few more days to go and part of the problem is this storm actually is not going anywhere. right now winds are sustained 40 miles an hour. here's a look at projected track. it will be updated 11:00. take a look. it's wanting to bring it back over the gulf again and mack a second land fall this is not a good thing it will get a little more energy here. may not intensify much but enough to bring pounding water back in with quite a bit of force. and it there a blocking high east and another one to the west. and light

there's no steering mechanism for this thing and that's why it is spinning and continuing to get this on shore flow that continues to hit the area and stay pretty much in place. and so that's part of the problem. there is no steering mechanism. that will eventually change as we get a little later in the week as though ridge of high pressures start to weaken and storm will have somewhere to start to move its way out of there. and so isolated amounts as we said up to 50. tornado threats continue. tropical storm force winds extending from the center of the storm system. here at home as he sid said things quieter and temperatures 50s and 60s and tonight 64 degrees. once we get to tomorrow we're talking high of 78 degrees. here's a look at "fox5" accuweather 7-day forecast. showers on monday later in the day and early tuesday. other than that not looking bad. it heats up by the end of the week. back to you. >> thank you, gwen. checking other top stories now remains of all ten u.s. sailors on board the u.s.s. jo

the sailors were named missing monday after a warship collided with oil tank egger in the pacific ocean east of singapore that caused significant damage to the ship making it difficult for crews to find the missing men. it's the fourth time a vessel in the navy has been involved in a major collision this year. >> in virginia they're looking for suspect that defaced a confederate monument overnight they dumped pine tar on the statue and naacp condemned it saying removal of monuments should happen through the proper channels. >> more arrests made following white supremists rally in charlottesville earlier this month first 18-year-old daniel boreden from ohio behind bars after seen on social media as one of the men attacking a black man in parking lot. boreden is charged with malicious wounding of 20-year-old he deanne dray harris mrevt bloodid and unconscious in the attack.
