annie, we'll send it back in to you right now. >> it looks fantastic out there, guys. thanks so much. can't wait to see much more from the national harbor. we'll check back in with the gang in just a few minutes. but first though we do have to get to some news and get you caught up with the very latest on harvey. the recovery efforts in texas right now. the storm is losing steam as it moves north and east, but it is still dumping heavy rain along the way and creating huge problem for parts of the south including tennessee. we could see the storms remnants in our area tomorrow. so be aware of that. mick thomas will have full forecast for us in just a bit. in the meantime houston still trying to dry out. today rescue crews continue the door to door search force anyone still stranded or worse and the death toll has risen again to 39 this morning. but as the mission turns from residue recovery and rebuilding the big question becomes, how much it will cost to clean up after the storm and record floods and speaking of money, gas seems as precious as goal down south prices soar and supplies dry up. now as residents begin to clean up from

unable to return to their flooded and damaged homes. officials in houston say recovery will take years. in a town of beaumont east of houston, residents there have no access to running water right now. officials were forced to turn off all of its water supply on thursday. a hospital in beaumont was vac weighed due to the lack of water. across texas 37,000 homes have been heavily damaged. more than 5,000 completely destroyed. fema says it has already received more than 300,000 applications from people in need of financial aid. now the president is expected to ask congress for billions of dollars in federal funds but getting ready for victims fast is hard work and making matters worse fema is slated to run out of money in its main disaster account well go to kristin fisher with all the details. >> reporter: lawmakers already facing a full agenda when congress returns to washington next week. but now providing disaster assistance to harvey's victims has shot straight to the top of their list

quickly on the initial legislation. >> vice-president mike pence in texas promising storm survivors they'll get the aid they need to recover from hurricane harvey. back in washington, the white house has s preparing to ask congress for nearly $6 billion for response and initial recovery efforts. >> this congress will come together and make sure those resources are there. >> reporter: already last night, lawmakers on the house appropriations committee approved a request from the trump administration to transfer a billion dollars from the general fund to the emergency disaster fund. that will ensure that fema will be able to continue diss pursing money across the areas hit by harvey but in order to access that funding, the us debt limit still needs to be increased. >> everyone it is important that we all come together. >> reporter: president trump announced he'll donate $1 million from his personal fortune to the storm victims. the white house says the president hasn't decided when or where he will be send the donation. even though

as honorary chairman for the american red cross. >> he's actually asked that i check with the folks in this room sips you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into the groups and organizations that are best and most effect you have tiff. >> reporter: white house says this fund log come in stages and $6 billion is only the initial ask. president trump he'll be heading to texas tomorrow to tour houston and then he'll be meeting with congressional leaders sometime next week. in washington, kristin fisher, fox news. all right. now harvey is also having a big impact on gas prices just in time for the holiday travel. nationwide right now, gas prices jumped seven cents overnight. to help stabilize gas prices the federal government will release about 500,000 barrels of oil from an emergency stockpile in louisiana and as the flood waters recede in texas, many are scrambling to get their hands on some gas. now drivers are seeing long lines. some stations are also seeing a gas shortage

the national average price of a gallon of gas right now is $2.52 accepts. here at home dc drivers are paying about 2.67. and in maryland the price at the pump drops to $2.53 and in virginia it's $2.34. now despite the rise in gas prices the labor day weekend is expected to be a busy one for travelers in fact experts predict this could have been one of the busiest in years. more than 16 million people will supply somewhere to celebrate the unofficial end to summer. and millions more will hit the roads. president trump wants to end another obama era policy protecting people living in the country illegally. coming up later in the show, we'll have more on the decision that could come as soon as today. first though we'll head back out to the national harbor. here's live look of the the national harbor right now. for a look at the five must stops coming up and what you need to know if you want to call the area home. time now 9:09. we'll be right back. ♪ ♪♪

last year during a traffic stop and the officer pulled over a woman who was white and the woman told him she was scared to reach for her cell phone that's when the officer made the controversial comment. and protests this morning by metro bus drivers angry over what they call unsafe conditions on the job. drivers say attacks on them are way up and they want police protect on the bus. this week a woman was arrested for throwing a cup you're at a metro bus operator much despite their grievances metro has expressed no regard for their concerns. now to the latest on the us economy. the august jobs report released this morning shows steady gr growth. us employers adding 156,000 jobs a sign most businesses romaine confident in the economy. but it wasn't enough to keep pushing unemployment lower. unemployment rates tick up to four-point 4% in august. and finally, hail to the redskins!? redskins wrapping up their final preseason game with w. the redskins taking on the buccaneers in

tomorrow all ahead of what's left of what was once hurricane harvey pushing up through portions of tennessee, connecticut some of this moisture will try if you live out to the west you'll see a good amount of shower activity today. there might be one or two that come across here in d.c. but a high pressure is settled in which will try and protect us today. here's future cast. you'll see we kind of keep it dry throughout the day today here in washington. but as we get into the evening overnight and then daytime hours tomorrow, more and more of that moisture starts to push in and, yes, saturday looks like on and off rain showers all day with potentially heavy stuff working our way in for the saturday evening hours. good news second half of sunday looks good. i'll show you seven day in just a minute. do want to talk about the on the storm out that. this is irma category three storm it is strong but it is very far away at this time. where is it going? good question. it's going off to the west for now. once it gets towards the leeward islands that's about the end of our confidence zone. so it will be some where in this area and then beyond there as we get into next week. some models want to take it off into the

know, sure. we're regular people. you know what, we cry with you just like other people do when we see those really hard pictures and videos coming out of texas. >> absolutely. some of those images, it's hard for me to forget. the people in the senior center with mud -- water up to their wastes. mothers and fathers just cradling their kids rescue workers putting their own lives in danger. it does not go away. >> even after that allison when you see those images you think about, well, when the water goes i was -- absolutely. >> think boy what happens next. people are getting ready to go back to school. schools messed up. homes messed up a lot of people lost all their thing now they have to figure out a next step before they move for the whole insurance thing there's lot of different components to this even after the water is gone. let's not forget a lot of us here some of us have family members in houston. it has been hard wort reporting on this knowing our family members have been involved before we go i want to give shout out to first responders like the men and women behind us who have been so tremendous throughout this entir
