long sleeve weather perhaps but tonight we have to get through the strong thunderstorms and of course we're not ignoring hurricane irma. another very big story. kate lip will have much more coming up on that in just a few minutes. a teenager won't be facing charges after d.c. police say she did stab a fellow student at the british international school of washington t and the victim a 13 year old boy was stabbed twice in the back and was taken to children's hospital and the girl will not be chargedded because she has diplomatic immunity. paul wagner joins us live tonight with more on the the story. hey, paul. >>reporter: the british international school of washington, one of the most exclusive in the s city. it's he where diplomats from around the world send their children here. it costs upwards of $30,000 a year in tuition. from what we understand from the fact s in this case it was just before 1:00 this afternoon that a 911 call was placed to the dw c911 emergency center saying that they needed help at the school, thathe

stabbing up on the third floor of the school here which sits on wisconsin avenue just outside the main part of georgetown. where he the paramedics arrived they found the student conscious and breathing. a little while we did hear from d.c. police as well as the principal from the british school. you're first going to hear from d.c. inspector who is going to give you the facts and then from the principal on what he had to say to the parents. we had an incident at the school involving assault. this involved two juveniles. the information i can give you on that is limited we did have one student sustain some injuries. he's being treat ed at a local hospital right now. we do not believe that any other students are in danger and the case is under investigation right now. the suspect has been identified. however because there are diplomatic status there's going to be no arrest at this time. any questions regarding the diplomatic stats us can be referred to the state department . at the moment is there anything

told the parents. the student body are safe and well. we continued the school day as normal. we've spoken with the student body and we'll he be re leasing them as normal. emergency help was sent to the school just before one this afternoon and according to paramedics on the scene the victim was conscious and breathing with two stab wounds to the shoulder area of his back . the paramedic described them as minor stab wounds. police say the stabbing took place on the third floor of the school but would not say if it was in a classroom or even described as circumstances that led up to the assault. parents who came to the school toic p up their children expressed concern and surprise, but said the school has so far not told them what had happened. it's crazy from a school like this. i don't know how -- till in shock much that's all. it's a good l school. >> i mean one of the best schools. we know that. to hear something like this happies

surprise, shock. >> now the tat us of this 13 year old female student is unclear at this hour. the principal would not take questions. here's some facts about diplomatic immunity. according to the take it department, you can have diplomatic immunity. your siblings, your sons and daughters can have diplomatic immunity and also members of the administrative and technical staff members at an embassy have diplomatic immunity. that means he they cannot be arrested or detained. they cannot serve as witnesses or be prosecuted and they can be, that is they can be issued traffic citations. now, it is possible that once this case is referred to the office of attorney even, which the police say they will do, that it could be up to the state department as to what may happen to this 13 year old, whether they asked the diplomat to leave the country with his framly or her

down the road, but that possibly could happen. also we want to tell you that it's not un precedented for a dim plat to be charged with a crime here in washington, back in 1997 a man named george imac rats i was charged after country that he was here representing, georgia waived his diplomatic immunity. he was charged with a crime. he was tried and convicted and was sentenced to seven years in prison. we're live outside the british international school, paul wagner, fox5 local news. >> the story you heard first from fox5. the district is set to get a brand new hospital on the site on the cam bus of saint elite beth's. p $300,000 has been set aside. matt ackland is live from st. elizabeths with more on that. >>reporter: this is the place that has been selected. there was a major site survey going on and st.

the plais. for years now people have said this is the best place for it. there's a lot of land behind me, many, many acres. it's also really close to people who could use a medical center. today i was told this center can't come quick enough, the reason yrks umc and the problems they're having there. fox5 was the first to tell you how kc's health department suspended umc 's license to conduct object settic care. one mother telling fox5 her care before giving birth was terrible. the hospital is in a tough situation . it has been, it was when i became mayor. over the weekend the washington post report odd a consulting firm brought in by the bowser administration for $300,000 a month to get umc back on track. the post reports the founder of that firm donated to the bowser campaign. but the mayor today defended the firm's work. they are turning things around financially. that's what

them on in an emergency basis the hospital was going to have trouble making payroll. several years ago as mayor and now as council member vincent gray proposed a new hospital at st. elizabeth's but funding was held back. he says if he had had his way, the hospital would be less than two years from completion. i could almost tell you the day would have been 2019. we're in 2017 now. so we would be probably less than two years away from opening the new hospital. now we got $300 million once again in the budget, but some of us in the out years which means if if it stays on its current timetable it could be 2023 before we're opening a new hospital and that's just too long. we picked this location at saint e's to tell you it was right before the mayoral election, vincent gray and his staff here announced that st. elizabeth's is where they wanted to build that hospital, but funding was an issue, never got it

right now. >>reporter: good evening, as jim said we have now moved out lafayette park. we're down here on pennsylvania avenue. take a look for yourself. we are surrounded by a lot of demonstrators. thef ' come down here to the white house. we have heard things today from people, young people, people who tell us that they are dreamers and they are scared. a young guy by the name of joseph who is 25 years old says he was brought to this country when he is five years old and today he's concerned he's going to be returned to a country that he didn't grow up in and that he doesn't know. this is just a small number of the people that have been rally ing here at white house since 4:00 today. we heard from a number of other people. one of the demonstrators in this group, a man by the name of eric lopez garcia. he says he's 127, he's been here since he was 14. even though is, immigration and custom enforcement

care biand and then florida. is it on a dead track for florida? is there a chance it could veer off course. >> there's definitely a chance. we're still five days out. the thing is we've had a loft consistency over the past 24 to 36 hours of model runs taking this storm very close to florida if not delivering it a direct hit and this is what a category five storm looks like. this is irma, well classic con vehiclive bands and the counterclockwise swirl as you you you see it pushing through the atlantic, still in open waters but approaching the northern lee washed islands and that would be in the next 24 hours. the path of irma has been closely looked at all day long. it became a category five storm earlier this morning, winds are sustained at 185 milessen hour. by the way, there is only four storms in the atlantic basin in history of keeping track of hurricanes that have had wind speeds this high. irma is

this is fox5 local news at five time for are look at our headlines right now. first police investigating the death of a man at the columbia heights metro station. the metro spokesman said the victim got to the station around 5:00 this morning and collapsed from a pre existing condition or injy.

performed cpr but they weren't able to saich the man's life. in loudon the search is on for two bugger laster in ashburn. the pair broke in last month through a basement wind on. at one point one of the men knocked off the surveillance video. no word on what caused a big fire in chester town, maryland. this broke out friday and spread through the fire, a harley, two tvs and a boat were all destroyed. the fire cost around $50,000 in damage. >> police have made an arrest in the murder of a missing fairfax county teen whose death is believed to be gang related. the suspect was found through a targeted operation in georgia. the body of 18 year old miguel car rea was found. the suspect was tracked down in atlanta a. he's originally from al salvador and apparently made it into the us illegal limit he'll be

extradited back to prince george's county. an update now on a pedestrian accident in loudon county that killed a baby last year and injured his mother . five month old tries continue schultz was hit and aild as his mother pushed him across riverside parkway in leesburg. the most serious charge of involuntary manslaughter has been dropped. a witness said john mirl the fourth was using his cellphone but records do not prove he was on the phone at the time of the crash. miller is still charged with reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. his trial is set to begin october 10. as the white house tackles immigration and tax reform here at home, the administration is also managing international relationships complicated by the threat of nuclear proliferation. fox5's political reporter ronica cleary live with the administration's handling of north korea and iran >>reporter: jim and sarah a midst the daily headlines that we see on domestic

those on the international nuclear and potentially crisis. today, un ambassador nick i haley she spoke about her concerns about the iran nuclear deal. she believes that if we leave the deal as is we could face a similar threat from iran that we are currently feeling from north korea. let's just say that the agreement falls short of what was promised. we were promised and end to the iran and nuclear program. what emerged was not an end, but a pause. under the zeal iran will continue to enrich uranium and develop advanced centrifuges. we were promised any time anywhere inspections of sites in iran. the agreement greevment delivered much less. >> just yesterday we heard from nick i haley on north korea where she says the country is quote, begging for war in light of their recent nuclear tests. well, in

press briefing sarah huk bi sanders she was asked about calls to impose stricter sanctions on the nation. we've been clear about what our priorities are, that now is not the time for us to spend a lot of time focused on talking with north korea, but putting all measures of pressure that we can and we're going to continue through that process. we've also said that everybody, including russia, including china need to do more to address the threat. this is a global threat and everybody needs to take part in putting pressure on north korea. over the summer the united states called on new sanctions against iran as well and as we're seeing over the first monthses of the president 's administration we're seeing the way president trump is tackling and handling these international issues in light of these apparent efforts by north korea and iran to develop and expand their nuclear programs. i spoke with john giz i, white house correspondents

lightening from rockville, the 270 split starting to see some heavy rain and that will be moving from the beltway into sections of prince george's county pretty soon. a nice little outflow boundary, too, by the way much that's moving into washington, it could flare up some more storms but we've got some storms to the west. places in prince george's county and then anne arrundel county l you'll start to rain in a few minutes so. annapolis going to be seeing some of the heavy rain and lit evening. we have a severe storm warning for parts of clark and severe county. also including parts of warren county and virginia. this is the potential for some document age winds of we've had a lot of reports back along 81 of some wind damage. that is a concern as the storm starts toanter your area, a lot of heavy rain that looks like a hail core, plenty of lit evening this would move into places like

>> daze after a passenger tossed a cup of urine on metro bus driver another driver has been attacked. this happened this morning on minnesota avenue northeast. fox5's marina maracco talked with that driver just a bit ago. she's live with more on this. marina reporter roar that's right, yet another attack, jim, sarah. this time it was spit and we'll show you the surveillance video from ten days ago. that attack unfortunately urine. now you you see the woman there flinging a cup full of woman at the bus driver. a few days later after that assault that suspect was ar rested. that woman was charg ed with simple assault. now today yet another incident. this bus driver says he was spit on by a

his bus. this bus driver says he's been on the job for 18 years. this is how he described the attack. he didn't say anything. i didn't even know that he was right there until he he hit my face and then i looked and he walked across the front of the bus and i was like i know he didn't just spit in my face, you know. so when i was cross ing the light i pulled up beside him to he see if he was going to say something or did i leave you or something like that . he didn't say anything. he just kept on walking. now as a result of that assault, the bus driver was taken to providence hospital where blood was drawn to make sure he didn't contract any sort of illness from foreign bodily fluid. metro union atu689 says they're sick and tired of seeing their bus drivers, their metro operators being assaulted. they want stiffer penalties. they're calling for those assaults to not be listed as misdemeanor simple

categorized as felonies. today we reached out to mayor bowser as well as general manager paul wiedefeld. we caught up with them. here's their response to stiffer penalties. so we think that it's important that an enhanced penalty is available foray salts on transit providers . more than that i think, and i introduced to the council a couple years ago, with our safer stronger package i think there should be enhanced penalties for any crimes on metro against the transit operator or passengers. i think clearly that instance really shows what our drivers and operators go through on a regular basis and i think they need to be protected to the maximum that they can be protect ted. i just think it makes commonsense to be -- no one de serves to be treated that way. so we got to make sure that there's penalties in place that prevent that. metro transit police
