forecast. days after a woman through a cup of urine, a man assaulted another driver and he's talking about the disgust ing attack with fox5. the news at ten starts right now . well, we begin tonight with hurricane irma, the power ful storm is packing winds up to 10080 miles per hour and is threatening the caribbean and southern florida. take a look at this monday sterks it is huge . back here at home we had some strong storms of our own move through the area. we'll start locally because the good news here, the thunderstorm threat is over, but we could still have a couple of showers around and some of you had multiple rounds of storms going by that dropped a good amount of rain. it's a pretty significant front that's going to bring a big change in our weather for tomorrow so get ready for that. i just wanted to show you that while most of it is gone we still have a few more showers that linger in the mountains and i can't sound the all clear even overnight. wedne

to feel like a totally different season. as a matter of fact it will feel like fall and i mean october-like fall with temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s and showers still in the forecast. for the kids in maryland, second day of school, rain gear will likely be needed and maybe the long sheeves, too. it will kind of be a chilly start and a little bit of an uncomfortable day, that is for sure. that's our weather forecast but now we need to talk about this, not only ir ma, that category five monster it is a record setter which i'll elaborate on in a minute, but another tropical storm has formed behind it, tropical storm jose. not too worried about jose i think it will make a turn . the hurricane hunters continue to fly into it and they find the center they wind wind speeds of one l 0 miles per hour . it's the strongest storm in the atlantic. central pressure

significant. that's lower than gloria in 1985. so the hurricane warnings are up. unfortunately it's going to go downhill pretty fast for the northern lee ward islands. it looks bad for puerto rico it skims along the dominican republic and over into cub a on this current path over the weekend. there's obviously a very big cone of uncertainty there when you get this far out in the track it could be off by 175 to 225 miles, but florida has to be awfully worried tonight seeing that path coming so close to the state. they'll have impactses for sure. the national hurricane accept by the way within this hour will re lease a new. i'll bring that later to you in the forecast and also the seven day forecast. >> thank you, sue. and now to a fox5 exclusive, a back-to-school night mare for a prince george's county family. on orientation day a seventh grader

bus driver left him nearly two miles from his house and thieves robbed him and stole his cellphone and sneakers. when his mom couldn't get ahold of school officials she called fox5 for help. lindsay watts with the story. >>reporter: the principal here the at james goal son middle school and a spokesperson for prince george's county schools say they are now investigating how this happened. this was a 12 year old boy who says that his bus driver let him off in the wrong place in a rough neighborhood far away from his home and we can show you just how far away. the boy says that he got off the bus at the d.c. prince george's county line at kenilworth and eastern avenues and we filmed the distance from there to his home as we were driving and then obviously sped up that video. the boy says before he could even start walk ing home a man robbed him taking his shoes and his cellphone. the boy's mother didn't want him to be identified tonight, but she did let him share

gierks he came up to me and then he said give me your phone and give me your shoe and there were at least 20 years old so i didn't know what else to do. but i gave him my you shoes and my phone and then after that there was this one gicial at the bus top. i walked up to her and i asked her if i can use my phone to call my mom. when i picked him up, he was barefoot, no shoes on and it was a bunch of junkies out there. he was upset. he was shaken and i just told him everything was going to be fine that i'll get to the bottom of it. i brought him home. he said he didn't want to go back to school tomorrow. that mik a jackson tells us that she never got bus information in the male so her son's father drove him to l school today and spoke to school staff about which bus he was supposed to be on and then the boy got on that a bus. jackson says she

older child who went to james goal son middle school. he got dropped off at a bus top right by their home so she says this was totally unexpected and she's anjaliry. her son says he told the bus driver where he lived but was still dropped off at that far allocation. the principal called jackson and we were there for that conversation . the principal apologized and assured jackson she was going to make sure her son was on the right bus going to the right place in the days ahead and after we left the transportation director also gave the mother a call. again, prince george's county public spokesperson says this is under investigation at the district level as well and prince george's county goes back to school tomorrow. that's the official first day of school, but some students like the boy we spoke to had orientation today. we're live tonight lindsay watsz, fox5 local news. things are much smoother tomorrow, lindsay. a teenage girl accused of stabbing a classmate at

international school of washington today will not face charges because she has diplomat ic immunity. police say she stabbed a 13 year old classmate twice in the back. he was alert and conscious when he was rushed to children's hospital. parents were upset, though, when they found out what happen. it's crazy from a school like this. i don't know how. still in shock. that's all. it's a good school? >> i mean one of the best schools, we know that. to hear something like this happies just surprise, shock. >> it is unclear at this oint if if the teenage girl accusedded of stabbing her classmate will be back in school tomorrow or if she will face any discipline. police tell us her alleged victim is expected to make a full recovery. days after a passenger tossed a cup of urine on a metro bus driver another driver has been atafnlgd it happened this morning on minnesota avenue northeast. fox5's marina maracco spoke with that dwriefer. she joins us live from metro headquarters with more.

>>reporter: this bus driver was spit on this morning on the u4 bus line along minnesota avenue and it all happened this morning just ten daze after this assault . this is surveillance video from just ten days ago. there you see a female passenger on the butts. that's the x2 line also along minnesota avenue in northeast. that woman flung a cup full of urine at the bus driver and despite that operator shield that urine got all over that driver. today the bus driver who was attacked, he's been on the job for 18 years. he says he knows the suspect because he t i'm cli drives him on his bus route. as for the metro union atu689 they say the penalties need to be stiffer foray salts on metro and bus operators. he didn't say anything. i didn't even know that he was right there until he hit my face and then i looked and he walked across the front of the bus and i was like i know he didn't just spit in my face, you know. so whe

ing the light i pulled up beside him to see if he was going to say something or, you know, did i leave you or something like that. he didn't say anything. he just kept on walk. what happened at the court the other day with the young lady with the urine incident when you allow her to walk out of a courtroom because it's a misdemeanor and she's talk every charged with a simple assault that's the message that you're sending to the public that it's open season on operators. at some point the district, maryland and virginia are going to have to tep up and increase and get stiffer penalt ies to address this issue. if not, sooner or later one of these operators are going to lose their life. as a result of today's aall the that bus driver was transported to providence hospital where his blood was drawn t make sure he did not con tract any sort of illness from the saliva of that other man. we'll tell you that atu689 is asking that aa salt on metro drivers, as well as metro operators, those bus drivers on the buses as well as the metro operators on the rail line, if they're

and women spent time in san antonio and several portions of harris county hardest hit by hurricane harvey. this group virginia task force one is made up members of fairfax county fire and rescue. fairfax county was chosen by fema to respond to natural disasters when help is need. this is what our local firefighters saw on the ground in texas. officials say the team made at least ten rescues and evacuations working with local emergency workers and the civilians there. they helped them. that civilian group was called the gauge and navy. they helped reunite people with their animals and got medications and valuables to people who had to leave them behind. we spoke to the chief about their time in the houston area. as i greeted them this evening, it was very compelling to

that they've never seen anything like it in their career as it relates to the amount of water and destruction. we brought swift water boats. there was act i swift water which we can compare to great falls in apartment complexes. we poured four people out of some townhomes in an area that was about up to the front door, they are devastated, lost all their belongings and just getting them into the boat and seeing how happy they were to have somebody there to pick them up and help them out made a world of difference to them, i know. >> and unfortunately tonight this team is talking about potentially being dispatched again because of hurricane irma taking aim at florida if any damage happens there. it's a possibility that these same team members could be sent down to florida to help fema respond to that. live in h chan till i, evan lambert, f5

>> next tuesday the city of college park will decide whether or not to allow non citizens to vote in local electses. the city council had a work session tonight where they discussed the issue. there's a chance it could end up going to voters in a referendum on november 7. the controversial issue lead to a number of threats to council members earlier this year. the council was scheduled to vote on the matter back in august. but the mayor postponed taking any action. six other towns in maryland already allow non citizens to vote in municipal elections. a big change at yale university, the school renamed the school to grace hopper college. it had been a target of protest because calhoun was a of slavery. today the college was formally renamed in honor of grace hopper. she graduated from yale in the 1930s and was a pioneer computer scientist. very cool can. >> amazon is helping you get your drink on

latest nuclear test. an expect decongestant mother delivers her baby on the way to the hospital with the help of a local police officer. now the family reunite s with the cop that came to their rescue. up first, reaction to the trump administration to end the daca. the official announcement was made today and we've seen pro tests around the country in response to it. the deferred action allows some young, un documented immigrants who came to the us to stay here on work permits. the president is indicating tonight that his decision may not be final. the administration announced it would end daca in six months to give congress a window to act. the president tweeted tonight that congress has six months to legalize daca saying if they can't i will revisit this issue days after a passenger tossed a cup of urine on a metro bus driver another one has now been attacked. marina maracco live with more on this incident. >>reporter: that's

another assault ten days ago it was urine. today it was spit. metro transit police did make an arrest this morning, but metro union atu689 says they believe it's open season on their operators and this is surveillance video from that urine attack two weeks ago. now the woman there, she was charged with misdemeanor simple assault that's the same charge for today 's suspect, atu689 says those who assault metro and bus operators should face felony charges. and a teenage girl accused of stabbing a classmate at the british international school of washington today will not face any charges because she has diplomatic immunity. police say she stabbed a 13 year old classmate twice in the back. he is expected to make a full recovery. it's unclear if the girl will be back in school tomorrow or if she will face any punishment. earlier tonight we certainly heard the rain drops and the storms outside here in northwest. it looks like it's certainly calmed down.

going to cool off, too, feel a little bit like fall. let's check in with sue palka to get the latest on our forecast. we went to get everybody ready for the fact that today it felt like summer. tomorrow is going to feel more like october. in fact we may have to deal with a few more showers. a few spots are still seeing some thunder, one of those in the northern neck of virginia which i'll show you on raised tonight radar in a moment . maybe a few showers lingering in the day, enough that you may want to keep the rain gear, especially in the the front that brought our thunderstorms tonight which is trying to move through the area slowly it's really got kind of a punch to it and you'll feel the difference tomorrow big time. it will feel like a totally different season. irma is another huge story that we're watching. the first encounter likely will be the island of about your mud a with winds of

to be the monster storm irma. the hurricane is packing sustained winds ever one l 5 miles per hour. he declared a staift emergency yesterday that affects all 67 counties. president trump also has declared emergencies in florida, puerto rico and the u s s virgin islands. people are heeding those warnings, too, and getting some needed supplies. this is not a storm to be taken lightly this is probably the worst one that we've faced since we moved here in 2003. i got my generator at 6:00 this morning. i got my money out of the bank at 11. i got the alert about the sandbags, so i'm here. right now state officials are urging residents in the the florida keys to evacuate ahead of the tomorrow. other parts of florida also could see mandatory he vaik what goes is in the coming days. texas governor greg and lot today, he said the goal now is to rebuild as quickly as possible. he also said none of the epa

the district is set to get the brand new hospital and the site is the campus of st. elizabeth's . this would replace united medical center which you probably know has been the sceefn a lot of issues lately. fox5's matt ackland broke the story. he has more. fox5 basss d.c.'s health department suspended umc's license to conduct obstetric careone mother telling fox5 her care before giving birth was terrible. the hospital is in a of tough situation. it has been. it was when i became mayor. over the weekend the washington post reported on a consulting firm brought in by the bowser administration for $300,000 a in to get umc back on track. the post reports the founder of that firm donated to the bowser quam pain, but the mayor today defended the firm's work. they are turning things around financially. that's what the numbers show. when we brought the hospital was going to have trouble making payroll. several years ago as mayor

across the lee ward islands, it looks like it's going to take a direct hit from irma as it goes across there it's going to come very close to puerto rico, the dominican republic, cuba. the path has it kind of skimming just along the northern coast of most of the islands but that's still too close for comfort and obviously we have a wider cone as we get farther out in time, but sunday at 8:00 it has it very close to key west and on this path that would do a lot of battering of the west coast of florida. that is for sure. but there is till some model divergence as we get out to day four and five. you see this a little bit of a spread in what we call our spaghetti models, but that means the southeast us, the mid atlantic not off off the hook. not even the gulf coast. we're all going to have to much what it because as irma continue s as a category five or a four it heads into warm waters where it could really get fueled up. the car rib and,

atlantic, unusually warm and that's why we still have to much what it up and down the southeast coast. out through the panned r pan handle and all the way to new orleans. two models that are looked at closely and a lot of models are taken into consideration but the american model which is called the gfs, global forecasting system and the urine model. the yeern is in yellow. the gfs is in white. notice how close they are. as we get out to sunday they start to take different paths. the g gs wants to go more to the east side and not really make a big landfall in florida. comes close. but the euro takes it on more of a southern path affecting the west coast and the keys. as we get see where the two models are taking a little different path. if you want less impact you're going to root for the gfs american model. as w

forward in time, though, they do both come into the eastern us. sometime on tuesday or maybe even monday night. i mentioned that we've got irma, but behind it we have tropical storm jose which may also become a hurricane. we're hoping that one will take a different path. hurricane hunters are going to be flying into this storm non stop and last pass and you can see they go-round and round and another flight is taking off i noticed right now but as they went through the center center of the eye they found wind speeds at 182 much that's sustained at 182 which is why we're saying hurricane irma is the strongest storm ever in the at the atlanticic. alan was a little bit stronger. we're hoping that irma doesn't get much stronger. it could stay as a five. so we're thinking of everybody in the path

and wow, just praying for a miracle. so tonight here's what we've got, a frontal boundary moving on through bringing some showers with it. we may see a few more. some of you saw thunderstorms earlier tonight. some of you saw four rounds of thunderstorms like bob leaf letter did up in demass cuss. there's still a few thunderstorms here moving through the salsbury area. by tomorrow morning lots of clouds, still some showers around and that's why we're saying tomorrow has the feel of a mid october day with maybe even some more substantial sures as we get into the afternoon so keep the umbrella handy. i hope we don't have more rumbles of thunder. we could have downpours in the afternoon. a cool day it won't feel anything like it did today and not really a great looking day. the rain gear will come in handy as we reach for temperatures in the upper 6306s and low seven 30s. we've got a lot of low and mid
