carribbean and florida. coming days after hurricane harvey this time danger is not the flood potential really, r really strong record winds. for details let's check in with caitlin right now. still some dispute mike thomas is saying he's following that model going up carolina coast perhaps. some others saying maybe more western central florida. what are you leaning toward? >> well, you know you just have to go with the most current guidance this steve this morning it was an eastward track an lot of consensus with that. it will go back and forth a little bit. regardless south florida needs to brace for some impacts this weekend. there is this massive storm. hurricane irma category five peaks sustained winds 185 miles per hour made earlier land full this morning across islands like anguilla and saint martin devastating impacts from direct hurricane watches and warnings in place for most of the islands of carribbean leading up towards south florida as irma will move west forth westward over the next sever days. impacting places like the turks

maybe not with a direct hit. cuban and hispaniola. this is major hurricane barreling through the atlantic. by the second last half of the weekend south florida in that cone of where they could see direct landfall and hurricane or at the very least major impacts. like i said the consensus overnight was to move the eye of the hurricane offshore grazing miami and moving due north up at atlantic side of florida making landfall somewhere around the georgia south carolina border. now, that can and may change as we go through the next couple of days. we are still several days out and we will continue to watch that closely that was our latest update as of 8:00 a.m. hey it's a gray and gloomy one outside. satellite/radar showing the showers fill back on three. on and off rain and temperatures are in the 60s right now. steady in the 60s through the after you need a jacket, umbrella all day long. much brighter days ahead starting top i'll have a look at that seven day forecast still coming up. maureen, back over to you. >> caitlin, thank you local search and rescue team returned to virginia last night after he

southeast texas but they're not staying long. fairfax county's urban search and rescue team is headed back out to help hurricane irma. bob barnard is live at chantilly, virginia, with the latest. good morning, bob. >> reporter: hey, maureen g morning to you. yes, this is virginia task force some of their members just got back last night, and a whole new team of 80 urban search and rescue members are just now l loading up all their gear into a truck. they're due to leave here at 10:00 o'clock this morning. they are heading toward and they will drive to mack well air force base in alabama, and from there, they can either drive on motor on to florida or if they're needed in the virgin islands, the us virgin islands or puerto rico they can fly them from the air force base there. and this is a team that's versed in handling tornadoes, earthquakes, and of course, hurricanes because some of these members as i mentioned just got back from texas. they had t

team down there. assisting the authorities in texas. they got back last night. and now some of them are heading out including reggie wadly who we spoke to earlier. >> seeing the storm in the news i knew it was very high potential we would go back out the door trying to be ready and trying to get home to see my family and wife and kids for as much time i could before roll back out. this is a big storm and we have an idea on what things needed to be added from the last mission. so we're able to build on that. we have a great low tis tick support here these guys are working on it since we got back and probably wor working on whee were in houston planning. >> reporter: and they were. the official order came at 7:00 o'clock this morning, guys, but as you hard reggie mention, they knew last night. we were here at 7:00 o'clock this morning already a number of these people were here in their warehouse here for the fairfax county fire department where they house all their gear that is called up by fema. this is the vare virginia

checking the morning briefings at the moment, the big story on the hill this morning will be hurricane relief. house is scheduled to vote today on twitter approve billions of dollars if in funding for hurricane harvey recovery efforts growing measure for lawmakers to tack on a debt ceiling raise to keep the government from defaulting on loan at the end of the month. fema to is warning lawmakers it will run out of money if congress doesn't act fast. also today, president trump is set to hit the road again to talk about tax reforms. he's heading to north dakota and he will have a guest on board air force one for the trip. democratic senator heidi height camp said to join president trump during the flight. at the center of president's speech simplifying the tack code and lowering rates a move he says can and will create jobs for middle class workers. this morning, there's a mix of reaction after president trump's controversial decision to end the daca immigration program. yesterday the trump administration announcing the program will be phased

that sparked outrage among supporters while pleasing opponents who call caca unconstitutional. melanie alnwick live on capitol hill this morning with more. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning. members of congress get back to work in earnest today and among all of the other things that they need to handle on their immediate docket, now the fate of some 800,000 so-called dreamers is in their hands, and those who were once protected unthe program, they're being told to make preparations. >> demonstrations breaking out in cities all across the us with dozens arrested including in front of trump tower in new york city. all after the trump administration announced tuesday it is ending the obama era immigration program known as daca which is protected illegal immigrants who came to the us as children from deportation. >> it means they have to go home haven't conversation with their family about, um, making

thinking about whether they should self deport themselves. >> reporter: president trump says he'll give congress sick months to come um with an alternative before ending the program completely. but now nearly 800,000 daca recipients are left with questions. >> i would give my live for this country. i would bleed for this country. and then to have this trip for me it's really sad for me good on twitter tuesday night president trump wrote "congress now has six months to legalize daca and said if they can't i will revisit this issue". >> i have a love for these people and hopefully now congress will be able to help them and do it properly. >> among his fellow republicans mr. trump's move is getting mixed reaction. >> president trump struck a sensible middle ground said that in six months he's going to stop renewing these work permits. >> we're not going to allow these kids to be victim of a broken political process. >> reporter: as you see there republican senator lindh day graham he's one of

hold of the school she called fox5 for help. our kristin leon is at that middle school in landover with exclusive interview. >> reporter: good morning. the mother still very upset by this. the first day of school supposed to be an exciting time for both parents and students. and instead based on what happened, the mother says that her son now does not want to go back to school today, and quite frankly she says she doesn't blame him here either. now really quick i'll did want to point out the school where she says the bus driver pick up her son here at g james golson middle school in landover instead of dropping him off here her nouse in fairmount hikes he was dropped 12 blocks away crime ridden area. a a group of men came up to him and stole his brand new pair of nikes and his cell phone. so he asked another girl nearby to borrow her phone and took call his mom. >> when i picked him up, he was bare foot, no shoes on, a

there. he was upset. he was shaking and i just told him everything was going to be fine, that i'll get to the bottom of it. and i brought him home. he said he didn't want to go back to school tomorrow. >> reporter: the mother claims she's never received any notifications by mail about the bus stops in this case and she says her dad's son was the one who took him to school that morning and inquired about the bus that her son was supposed to be on, and she also told us she has another son an older son who goes to the same middle school, and that he was dropped off two blocks away. now, we also contacted the school district and transportation officials and they say they're going to resolve this and further investigate to make sure this doesn't happen again. in landover, maryland, kristin leon, fox5 local news. >> i think it goes without saying or maybe we need to say it i guess i should say, we have had this story too many times in prince george's county. >> absolutely. >> kids have been dropped off at the wrong bus stop when you hear them say we're looking

this won't happen again -- >> but does it happen. >> it does happen again. >> even in this case the child told them this is not his stop. which is very bizarre. >> that's the part i don't get f i'm telling you this is not my stop. >> i had this conversation -- i get it to a point. i had this conversation with allison earlier. i think i don't know exactly how the system works between telling, you know, the as signing of the child to the bus, but if you have kids that get on a bus that don't wanting to home or want to go to different place then they tell the bus driver just drop me here. >> okay. >> now that responsibility falls -- lies solely on the bus driver. >> right. it has to be system in place from the school saying look you take this kid to this stop, and somewhere there was a break down in that system i feel terrible because you're right in perfect world if that kid said this is my house they should know. if that bus driver it's the first dave school and they have all these people they don't know. >> that's true. >> they don't know where your house next thing you know you drop the kid off they said it was your house, and it wasn't now you're in trouble for that. >> you make a good point. let's wait until we get all the facts.

statue after an intense hearing last night council members moved to take down the statue of general thomas stone wall jackson. the vote comes just weeks after violent protests in that city turned deadly sparked in part by plans to remove a statue of confederate general robert e. lee. here at home now, former federal protective service officer will be sentenced for killing his wife today. tour tell showed and killed his wife last year as she wait to do pick up her daughter outside of high point high school in be beltville. the next day he shot thee people during a manhunt throughout montgomery county. two of those victims died. he was already sentenced to four consecutive life sentences for those crimes. health news now. excitement over an experimental blood test for alzheimer's disease. current alzheimer's testing consists of a brain scan and in depth mental testing but now a simple blood test could be a considerable jump in testing research

sox batters. the yankees filed a formal complaint with the league back in july. this incident is now under investigation. but a lot of details are still unclear about this. officials from both teams and the league are staying pretty tight lipped about the case, and it appears that some unknown allegations are forcing major league officials to investigate not just the red sox but the yankees as well. >> i do believe that this is a charged situation from a competitive perspective when you have the kind of rivalry that yankees and red sox have. i guess it's not shocking you could have charges and counter charges like this. >> now as far as punishment for the red sox right now the possible penalties are not clear according to espn it's highly unlikely the red sox will be docked draft picks but fines and suspensions are possible and this certainly is not first time boston sports fans have been accused of cheating or sports teams have been accused of cheating patriots were

cheating scandals and you know what's bad when they both end with gate. the original one known as spy gate bell belicheck and patriots were caught filming the new york jets on the side lines during a game from an illegal spot in the stadium, and we all remember the gammas deflate-gate boston golden boy tom brady accused of dee plating footballs ahead of game. he served four game suspension for his 11 involvement in the scandal. >> didn't slow him down on win. >> went on to win the super bowl. >> didn't make a bit of diss. what does a the -- penalties in this case do nothing to defer or, you know, to keep people from cheating, because what are you going to do? suspend the general manager. fine him $100,000. none of this makes any difference. >> a slap on the wrist. owners it's pock change for them if you do fine them or take a draft pick it's not big deal. out all three of these offenses spy gate, deflate-gate and now apple watch gate, which one do yo

strengthen to hurricane and katia in the gulf. the southern gulf march from houston and southeast texas neither jose near katia are expected to have us impact at this point. thankfully because we've got our hands full obviously with irma that still has been maintaining it's category five strength with peak sustained winds of 185 miles per hour. earlier landfall in some of the less sr. antilles islands including antigua and st. marteen and that is a devastating hit. the strongest st. marteen has ever seen. from that expected to track west northwest over the next 48 hours through much of the carribbean islands then it's got its sights on south florida. that would be irma impacting south florida at least going by this track issued by the national hurricane center earlier morning. sometime between late saturday night and late sunday night. so in that second half of the weekend time frame and anywhere in south florida is vulnerable for either direct hit or at least a grazing hit that would still bring heavy

the impacts from the eye of the storm can go hundreds of miles out we're watching south florida closely. hurricane watches going up there shortly and then from there, there's been more eastward shift overnight that could be impacting georgia and carolinas a well. all right. back home here, what's ahead. a cool and cloudy day with lot of rain showers out there. that are stay its starting to phil here in the metro that's steadier band of showers moving through portions of fauquier county he can treatment western loudoun county as that moves northeast expect a period of rain here study through the lunch hour into the early afternoon. guides that, it's also very cool day. temperatures are in the 60s out there. 67 in washington. 62 gaithersburg. 63 out at dulles. yesterday we hit 87 degrees. this is probably where we'll stay all day. temperatures 20 degrees cooler. it's a great one and a gloomy one for today. luckily we clear out tomorrow, thursday, clouds giving way to sunshine, and then we're looking at some fantastic early fall weather. little cool for this time of year but so beautiful. through the weekend

into early next week by the way that's when we're watching for maim effects. guys, if irma were to impact us here it would be beginning probably late next monday into tuesday and again ear its eastward track that shift off florida's atlantic coast would favor higher impacts here meaning rainfall. we're watching all of that. i'll have another update about 10am guys. back over to you. >> caitlin thank you for that. holly? well, the road to recovery in texas of course we all know it will be very long one and like we told you earlier today, the house will vote today on a billion dollar bill to provide relief. but millions more is on its way to the disaster zone thanks to donations. last friday you might recall at our sip tri finale, we paid tribute to those affected in texas by hurricane harvey during that tribute we highlighted local organizations who wanted to assist those in houston who lost everything. one of those local efforts was hearts for harvey which was formed to serve as a conduit for people in the greater washington area to send assistance to the houston a

hurricane harvey. because of their efforts, hearts for harvey was able to send $50,000 worth of supplies to houston. but the group wanted to even more. it's calling on local hous houstonians to join their fight. so this morning we're joined by houstonian and reality star giselle bryant. rebecca yo stem industry from the red cross and sharon tom on the found of hearts and harvey. thanks for coming in. >> absolutely. >> good morning. >> we'll start with you. give us update from friday to now. >> well, we have raised almost $100,000 on site which is the website that goes directly to red cross. we've raised almost $6,000. and the truck with $50,000 arrived on saturday to houston, and to shake community center that is in the central part of the houston close to down down. >> they must driven all night. >> they did. they left from the zip t

you know her. she knows a thing or two about pressure as the most success women in racing today but she knows what it's like to deal with migraines on the job. court excedrin she joins us live from new york to share her story. good to see you again. how are you. >> i'm good. thank you. how are you. >> i have to dive right into it how can you possibly deal with migraines and the noise and the atmosphere of being inside of a race car? >> well, apparently, the the noise and the atmosphere that gives me the my grain because i've actually not had to drive with a my grain. um, i get them after a race. so sunday night through tuesday night, um, so for me they last for two days. um, initially i didn't know what was going on because i've only had them for couple of years now. um, and so i thought i was getting carbon monoxide poe zoning so i got tested before and after a race like right before and right after, and, um, it was nominal and at that point i'm like okay. so it's not that

>> wow. >> it leads me to go, okay, now what is it? and instead of just accepting i get migraines, i am like my own self doctor. i'm like a doctor on the side. and i want to figure out why and how and how do i make sure i don't get them again because they're awful. it's kind of like being i do get nauseous when i get them, most of the time, but it's like being sick. like when you're sick whether it's a cold or the flu or anything you think it's the end of the world and the the worst thing and then afterwards it's no big deal. well, now imagine that i go to work, i get a migraine for two days then i have to go back to work that gives me migraine and then i get over that and i good back to work. i mean it's vicious cycle and so i need to figure out what it is that is triggering them, and i still haven't gotten to the complete root of it but i have found some things i feel like that are helping. but excedrin definitely understands migraine sufferer and understands just how awful it is, uncomfortable and how much it can affect you at work
