with southern florida. hurricane warnings are in ef effect. mass evacuations are underway. hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing the coast on both sides of the state. meanwhile, the death toll in the caribbean has rise stone at least ten people. and the destruction it left behind is unprecedented. we have live team coverage this morning. caitlin roth has more on the power and the path and what impact could it have here at home. first though, annie is in the newsroom with a look at the florida exodus. good morning. >> good morning to you, holly. as hurricane irma barrels through the caribbean right now there are reports that the storm has taken the lives at least 14 people now. it's already slammed several islands leaving behind widespread damages and thousands of people homeless and now as irma churns towards florida residents there are being told to be aggressive and to leave now. >> we're telling everybody leave miami beach. i never thought i'd he have say that. but i'm saying it these days. >> deadly extremely dangerous and

irma being described having blasted several islands taking lives in the carribbean. >> this is serious and we can't take chances. it is life-threatening. >> reporter: now the most powerful atlantic hurricane on record appears headed for florida and that's been triggering mandatory evacuation orders statewide. >> the amount of wind that's coming in we don't think we've seen anything quite like this 1185 miles an hour. 150 miles an hour. >> this point more than a half million people have been ordered to leave south florida. but everyone in south florida should be preparing for the landfall potentially catastrophic major hurricane in the area on sunday with category four to five winds and pote potentially life-threatening storm surge. >> reporter: people trying to leave have been having trouble finding flights. >> one way ticket for now. that's all we could find. >> reporter: people looking to flee that their cars have been running into traffic jams and gas stations are running dry

>> yeah but we're focusing on maim which does look like it's making bee line for south florida as major hurricane which could have devastating to catastrophic effects. i mean it's just the truth. massive storm floridians are used to hurricanes although it's been awhile they haven't had a direct hit since charlie back in to 004. miami felt effects from katrina that was only a cat one. and the last time there was a cat five was andrew but andrew was a much smaller storm. so this -- look at that storm and look at south florida on that. >> yeah. >> i mean south florida is tiny. this thing is felt 450 miles southeast of my many meme hurricane warnings up for all of south florida, miami, keys, naples not except from he cans here. as it barrels down this weekend the weather will be going downhill very quickly even by tonight outer rain bands and tropical storm force winds by tomorrow and then late saturday night into early sunday, as this storm is expected to make landfall, we'll feel the greatest impacts of storm surge. there's the

it shifted further west compared to yesterday which is actually worse for places like miami and southeast florida when northeast of that storm in the right quadrant which is the strongest part of a storm boo because you've got all the effects plus the forwar momentum of that storm moving northward. so as it makes landfall, that's when we'll start to see things go downhill rapidly and it will move northward and it will weaken considerably as it moves in this ward. cat two by the type it's crossing orlando still nothing, you know, that's not subst substantial. but then by the time it moves into portions of georgia early next week monday into tuesday, it's tropical the effects will be very minimal right here. but, yeah, south florida, many evacuations under way. today's like last call. get out of town. get out before the weather starts to change. >> state of emergency. this is serious business down there. all we can do up shear pray for them. >> pray for them because we have great weather here this weeknd which i'll show more the 9:30. >> all right. thank you caitlin. >> sure. let's get back over

with you guys on the couch. >> thank to you both of you. nip 07:00 is the time. from miami to d.c. lost florida residents are leaving the sunshine state ahead of hurricane irma which means a lot of flights from florida are landing right here in the district. fox5's bob barnard is standing by life at reagan national airport as some of those flights now begin to arrive. bob, what can you tell us? >> reporter: most of flights we're seeing on the different airlines from miami have been delayed up to an hour and a h half. even the couple of nights that are still going down are delayed departing. flights from jacksonville, orlando, even sarasota and tampa seem to be on time at least at this point. this is american airlines where they had two flights leaving to miami this morning. both were delayed. we spoke to people and heard one man telling us they lived 35 miles outside of miami. was going home. was going to weather it out. another family from pennsylvania had come here to catch a flightt connecting flight to guatemala which was still listeds,

know, scheduled to fly. so they were going to miami to then go to central america. but there were other flights from american airlines to miami late today. those have been canceled. now, i will tell you american airlines added 16 flights from miami and florida cities northward to dallas, philadelphia, new york, adding 3600 seats today. and yet it appears that they're all sold out a couple of hours ago i checked online and you could still get a $99 ticket from miami to laguardia in new york. but that flight is now full. jet blue in southwest have sold out. united add add number of flights and big planes to leave miami, and so far they have no seats left on united. delta has a couple. people who are leaving florida and arriving here are telling us they're glad to get out. >> it was just a long line. they were just trying to talk to somebody and there's nothing people that work at the airport could do. >> a mad

i mean it's pretty intense as far as the airport was extreme. i was just lucky. >> gas stations the few that are open have lines blocks long. i'm sure the traffic is awful. the airport i've never seen like that. my husband is hopefully on a flight a different one. i don't know. he didn't make the one i got on. it's awful. >> reporter: so, again, the airlines are already canceling certain flights to south florida from here at reagan national. the airlines basically are saying any flights all the airlines are saying any nights from south florida from miami outward are going to be canceled after tonight. from central florida orlando jacksonville planning to still fly until tomorrow afternoon. flights out. the flights that are heading in have very few people on them we're toll. the flights out, guys, it

>> i would think, bob, too, also for the airlines they need to get their planes out of there and put them somewhere else before the storm hits. >> reporter: absolutely. then the ripple effect of getting them back to try to resurrect their schedules once the storm passes will be an ordeal as well. yes, they're sending extra planes in, american airlines, united, and delta, but then they're getting them in. getting them in and taking people away and away from the florida cities for while. it appears. >> all the help needed with hurricane barreling down and hurricane relief taking top priority on capitol hill again. the house is expected to approve $15 million harvey and debt spending package. the senate approved that measure yesterday. today's house vote would send the measure to president trump for his signature. it raises the debt ceiling and funds for the federal government until december 8th and allocates billions for hurricane disaster relief after harvey and before irma hits florida. fema set to be burning through

$200 million each and every day. at least 15 people are dead following a powerful earthquake in mexico. the magnitude 8.1 quake hit the southwestern coast of the country just after midnight. officials say that a hotel in had area actually collapsed. so far there are no reports of casualties in that incident. the president of mexico is calling this the strongest earthquake to hit that country in more than 100 years. 62 after shocks have been reported. it's possible one as strong as 7.2 could hit. last check at least 15 people have been kill. tsunami warnings were also issued with reports of three and a half foot waves crashing on mexico's pacific coast. >> hard to imagine the numbers are so huge. you know what i mean? catastrophic. hard to wrap your brain around it all. >> yeah. >> more than 100 million people another huge number they're private information we're

143 million personal data files. along with 209,000 credit card numbers. the stolen information includes names, social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, some driver's license numbers as well and that is certainly more than enough for criminals to steal identities and trust me it will cause you major headache if's this happens to you. and then there's this. three equifax senior executives sold combined $1.8 million in company stock just days after the data breach was discovered on july29th. equifax says that's the date that they shut it down as well. but consumers we weren't informed about the massive hack until yesterday. think about all the time that passed there. equifax said in statement that the three executives had not been told about the breach before they cashed in their company shares. yesterday equifax shared dropped threapers. and again, one of the things that you guys have been experiencing so occasionally people will go on to that site and they'll get a red flag warning saying thi

jackson and pierre garson out. they haven't run the ball effeceffectively under jay grudn over the last couple of seasons. jamison crowder dealing with an injury at receiver. dotson's lack of health. kirk cuss sis has a lot to cory about. let alone sean mcveigh is the head coach of the la rams and jay gruden is taking over some of those duties. the focus is offense. it's kept them buoyed over 500. >> jay grew again is putting on another hat. head coach and calling the plays now. i think the bigger issue here the whole receiving core like the injuries, crowder, dotson, jordan read may be not, and then add in the fact gruden will be calling plays now. to me that's a huge deal. i'm not saying it will go back, go south but that's a huge change from the way things have been in the past. >> completely agree and something that isn't being talked about whole lot in addition to the fact that gruden is calling the plays which he gave up those duties for a as

carribbean overnight. the storm was downgraded to category four overnight. it doesn't make any less dangerous packing sustained winds of 155 miles per hour and gusts pushing 200. the historic storm hit turks and caicos earlier this morning. it's now on collision course with southern florida. hurricane warnings are in ef effect. mass evacuations are underway. hundreds of thousands of people are fleeing the coast on both sides of the state. meanwhile, the death toll in the caribbean has risen at least ten people and the destruction it left behind really is unprecedented. caitlin roth has more on the power and the path and one impact it could have here at home. hey, caitlin. >> hot holy good morning. several days of watching irma just decimate some of islands in the carribbean has it moved through the leeward islands, parts of turks and caicos, sites said on bahamas for today and then south in order up next as we go into the weekend. there it is. still powerful major hurricane.

circulation about 450 miles southeast of miami. but some of those outer bands only about 200 miles away and it is moving west northwest exactly toward south florida. some of those peak wind gusts up to 190 miles an hour still. sustained at about 155 miles an hour. all right. hurricane warnings have been in effect all morning for south florida. from ft. lauderdale down through west palm, miami, thou key west even on the west side naples because we do expect the track of this storm to kind of go just straight north northwest. we've got high pressure over the atlantic kind of steering it northward from where it's been traveling and then it is expected to go right over the course of florida right over the state. so there's irma. again, moving west northwest at about 16 miles an hour. we'll put this into motion for you and you can see the path of it is headed straight for south florida as category four major hurricane from there as would it make landfall sometime early on sunday morning it will move right up the state. at
