that is almost entirely because of the bravery of this woman. investigators say she had the wherewithal to after being doused with a flammable liquid and set on fire, get out of the apartment and get help. she also told police, who set her on fire and where police could find him. we spoke with a neighbor who saw the woman who was pregnant at the time burning as she was trying to get help. young lady that live up there and baby father had put her inside the tub and put gas inside and lit her on fire. she was screaming and banging on everybody's door and the guy that lived in the apartment opened the door and the whole apartment smelling her amendment was on fire. >> we not her family to know how brave she was, suffering as badly

he has been sensed to a long prison term. earlier, outside the courthouse in upper marlboro, the state's attorney angel a will alsobrooks came out to say that there were several dozen victims, they have so far been unable to identify in this case, listen to the state's attorney. mr. spieth had contact with children, traveling basketball coach. he had contact with children and we come to understand he inc violated children to his home and they stayed with him during the course of the time they were traveling during with the team. that he also had an opportunity to be alone with in of some of these children, and so parents who know of mr. christopher spieth and know that he had contact with your children, like for them to please reach out to us. >> reporter: prosecutors say christopher spieth was arrested

sharing site drop box noticed what appeared to be child pornography on an cola ultimately linked to him. detectives with the maryland state police have been looking at his electronic and discover images of several dozen young boys investigators have described as child pornography. some. them identified but many more have not. spieth worked not only as a teacher at brad berry heights but a coach with south county steelers, a travel basketball team. he lived with his mother in capitol heights. spieth is facing a new charge of sexual abuse of a minor, and is facing charges in federal court. state's attorney said new technology have made it so much easier for child predators to find their victims. because of social media that we unfortunately have given place for many predators to have further access, we're seeing

. behalf day today >> as we look at the forecast, it's a stark contrast to what we're seeing coming out of the south and obviously not one, two but three hurricanes and it's big concern for a lot is irma. gwen what's the latest on irma >> getting the update between bahamas and cuba on track to florida, that's where the concern is for the area. this is a massive hurricane and jim you just mentioned three out there. you're absolutely right, they didn't is the first time ever there's been two in the atlantic area at a category 4 when you look at this, the size and scope is unbelievable. >> you could actually take what was hurricane andrew and put it within hurricane irma and still have a lot of field around it. that's a visual for you. speaking of visuals let's get to our maps and show you what's happening with the storm

well-defined eye and it is barrelling its way between cuba and the bahamas. 15 miles east of cuba. 345 miles southeast of miami. as it moves west at 12 miles an hour. and that is the new 5:00 date we got. sustained wind 155 miles per hour, now, it is anticipated it will turn to the northwest late saturday. a lot of activity going on in the tropical tracker. as we take a look at irma, and its path of where its headed, we're concerned about florida, looks like the eye will be north of the coast of cuba and central bahamas by tonight into saturday. but near the florida keys and southern florida peninsula, by we get to sunday morning, one of the things a lot of forecasters has been

>> reporter: there are people out there who decide they're going to ride this out, but many more heading to local shelters, this is a massive line of people. homested i remember during hurricane andrew. just about 30 miles south of miami >> others are gathering love ones and hitting the road. this is footage of heavy traffic evacuating along i 75 north this morning. many are using it to avoid the impact zone and the worst of the hurricane. florida governor said he is working to keep traffic moving and bringing in more tankers to provide more fuel >>. president trump signing a bull approving 15 hurricane harvey disaster aid. short term milks to bypass the debt ceiling as well as prevent the government shutdown this is only the first installment of what will likely be tens of bills of dollars in federal aid to the areas hit by

>> recovery efforts continue where harvey left behind a trail of damage. storm ripped through neighborhoods leaving much of the city under water. thousands of homes destroyed by those heavy winds and flood waters, and inspectors are combing through to survey the damage. three emergency departments are gearing up to head south, others helping coordinate rescue, here's matt ackland. >> reporter: there's a lot of help on its way to florida from personnel mere in the district of columbia. you have firefighters, members of the emergency management and also members from the police department. neck in fact. two of these trailers filled with goods are already on their way to texas and come sunday they will be heading out to miami to help. >> got dog food, toiletry, baby wipes >> four large trailers filled with things people desperately need following a

storm. members of the dc police union stepping up donating, asking friends to and local businesses offering up these items. these are all donations. a couple last friday, we put out a plea to our members knowing what harvey has done to texas, knowing irma was coming up. >> reporter: downtown, fire and ems lieutenant andre edwards making last minute preparations to head to florida. both signed up for what will likely put two weeks away from home. >> it's one of the, you know, be able to go and lend -- do my part >> that's our responsibility to take care of us. >> reporter: with irma expected to cause damage, florida officials will need help coordinating rescue efforts. dante lucas from dc's homeland security is an expert. he's heading to florida's capitol tell has see. >> >> management, planning, operations, logistic, and some other things that they

>> reporter: some first responders have already left. in total, over a dozen people helping neighbors to the south, all of these i guess inside these trailers have been donated by members of the police union. but they will be on the clock when they head down to florida, the chief supports this, the mayor supports this, they want to do all they can to help people who have been hit hard by the storm in houston and the storm to come that should head through florida. in southwest, matt ackland, fox 5 local news. meanwhile, washington nationals are trying to help hurricane victims beginning today and running through sunday, september 17th, the nats will be collecting nonperishable items, cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items to send to texas and possibly the southeast after irma hits. donations can be dropped off every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. during game time donations will be accepted at center field and home plate. outside of game

pregnant teacher from olney and howard county. still no sign of laura what will lynn, she sent a troubling text to a family member. police have not gone into what the text said but laura never showed up to her first day of school at while lake high. she is four months pregnant. once again, police have found the car of laura what will lynn in howard county. we have a crew on the way and will bring you more >> skyfox over the scene of a house fire on ridge road in mt. airy. firefighters put the flames out quickly and everyone made it out safely but there's no word on what sparked the fire. a dc man is under arrest for an to indecent is exposure incident on the metro. 29-year-old he annual than knellford was arrested. the incident happened on a metro train near west falls station back in june. a woman told police forwarded touched her in a sexual manner, and faces several charges including sexual battery.

of loudoun tonight, a man from sterling accused brutally beating his dog. since been charged with animal cruelty. >> those types of stories don't usually have happy ending as chri christine leone shows us. >> reporter: it's hard to be that anyone would want to hurt these precious animals right here and horrible what happened in this case. now, investigators say sako was brutal the beaten by his owner with a baseball bat. luckily he did survive this alleged abuse. but what's even more beautiful about this story here is that is, ako recently found himself a loving place to call home. this is sako. he was staying at the loudoun county animal services and just recently foster erred. this past week as a matter of fact. investigators at the anima

they received a tip from someone about the suspected abuse. they later found out sako was seniorly beaten with a baseball bat at his owner's resident. the owner, this man here, 30-year-old kevin graves, graves was later arrested and has since been charged with animal cruelty and was released on based on. officials with the animal services say throughout the year, they see and take in a number of animal abuse victims, and it's just awful to see what they've gone through. that physical pain they've endured. >> it's a serious case, we treat these cases seriously. oftentimes they're a precursor to other more serious crimes, there's a direct link between animal abuse and things like child abuse and domestic violence and elder abuse. last year we investigated around 390 animal cruelty cases. not all of those were founded case, not all of them went to

court. >> when we looked graves up, all we could find were minor citations. now, his court date is coming up on october 4th. if convicted. he could face up to a year in jail, plus $1,000 in citations. at the loudoun county animal services, christine leone, fox 5 local news the white house is warning people to listen to evacuation orders. tom boswell was at the press r - briefing federal agencies are fully engaged to support florida, people who live there also have to be prepared. >> at some point, people are going to be on their own, so to speak, for a period of time during which the flooding, raining and the wind bear down on them. and they need to be prepared. if they're in that path and haven't taken action to get themselves in a less dangerous position to be ready for at least a 72 hour period, that would be my advice for them to have enough food, water and shelter before the government can get back

murder matured evacuation ordersism final flights have been departing airports leaving travelers get seats. evacuated miami international and headed out to hurricane shelters, the airport is not a designated hurricane shelter but we're told that it will only close if irma causes severe damage or safety concerns in which case, passengers would have to be evacuated. people also evacuating florida ahead of hurricane irma in hopes of staying out of harm's way. those flights are dwindling quickly as many make last minute plans to leave, tisha lewis is live from arlington with the story. are we seeing much panic or problems with flights to right now? jim and sarah, what i can tell you is that it's calm here, there are a few more flights coming in here to reagan airport from the florida area, you can see the arrivals board some american flights coming in, southwest flights coming in

for the allude dale and miami. areas expected to feel irma's wrath. many people are evacuating as you mentioned not by choice, but because there is a mandatory evacuations are in place across florida. american and southwest airlines all have flights landing here from florida tonight, even so, there are many delays for arriving flights here at reagan airport likely caused by that last minute dash that we've been hearing about. miami resident quentin bridges evacuated florida and arrived to the dc area this morning with the bear minimum. few changes of clothes, important documents, tells us he's staying with a friend in alexandria until irma pass >> last night, it was a ghost town in miami, which i've never seen, it was erie, like nobody on the street, there were no cars, no traffic, no nothing. i think a large majority of the city evacuated. which is good. what happens is with mandatory

from the florida area or somewhere in the particular region. really important. this is a monster russ storm. we've been talking about that, can't down play it in any way, sense or form. but i think one of the things i want the point out in terms of the size is the far reach it's going to have an mac such a great area. much more than just florida. we've got beautiful weather here, but you know what? it's not going to last that way for areas to the south of us at all for very long. but here's a look at this storm system. this is a huge massive hurricane. you can see the eye extremely well-defined here as it moves its way between cuba and the bahamas, but it's the outer stretch field in the outer bands that are also very important. especially when it comes to talking about the impact it's going to have on the united states. because we're focusing on florida, but the reach will be much far greater than that. that's why i talked about the cone of uncertaiy.

hurricanes happening right now. unbelievable. cat at it which will be affecting mexico and we got irma and jose the track wants to take it out to areas of the northeast. we only wish that was going to happen with irma, unfortunately not. the latest has the winds at 155 miles per hour sustained and let's take a look at the track as we have been following that pretty closely and this is the update and you can see this is the center of the track right here making landfall just to the west of miami as a category 4 hurricane expected to impact late saturday night into the early part of sunday morning. but if you look at this cone of uncertainty, this is the one thing i continue to point out to you, because it's not just that track that is impact. that entire cone of uncertainty is all the area that could be affected by this in any way, shape or form. and it's very possible t

track could change between now and beginning of the week or the end of the weekend and shift a bit more to the east or more to the west, any area encompassed in this really has to be on guard. georgia, north carolina, south carolina, all under the gun for heavy rainfall. pretty dangerous, not only do we have the storm surge but once we get dealing with the storm surge, and the wind we're talking about potential tornados, spaghetti models coming together consistent where the landfall take a look here, we got one more out to the west but other than that, both models continue to be pretty consistent with the track of this so far. once again, a lot of variation. rainfall unbelievable. anywhere from eight to 15 inch, isolated amounts up to 20 inches are not impossible. storm surge is one of the most dangerous and that's what's going to be league's, it's biggest killer when it does come to hurricanes. right now it's between cuba and the

we're talking late saturday into sunday, early week, heavy rain for georgia, south carolina and western north carolina, flooding rain of eight to 15 inches, possible isolated amounts up to 20, the predicted storm surge anywhere from eight to 12 feet for areas of southern florida and southeast. conditions favorable for this storm system to maintain itself as a category 4. it needs to be in water temperature of 80 degrees or so, and right now the temperature is like into the 90's. it's really holding its own. we're not doing too bad. we'll see cooler air moving down, kind of feels a little fall-like, doesn't it? temperatures into the 70's. no shortage of sunshine for you. look at the planner for tomorrow. great day to get out, go for a walk and enjoy it. 67 by midday. and let's look at the fox 5 accu-weather seven-day forecast. there you go, not bad. little bit of rain tuesday, wednesday, could be from what would be irma. i'll have more details later.
