[ laughter ] >> the one that won it. >> the one that got in the end zone. >> the most important. >> listen first at 9:00 we do need to head to the tropics right now because as we speak, it looks like there could be trip confidential threat. maria one the latest named storms to take shape. it's now a category one storm and it's taking aim at the same islands in the carribbean that were devastated by hurricane irma. maria is expected to become much stronger when the passes through the leeward islands late tonight it will then move on to puerto rico, dominican republic and haiti. closer to home tropical storm warning for the delmarva peninsula and millions of others along the east coast hurricane jose inches closer. the category one storm expected to bring strong surf from the carl lines nass all the way up to new england. >> further out in the atlantic, we are also watching tropical storm lee and for more on our weather all these storms and what we face here in the dmv tucker barnes standing with with our forecast. good

not worried about lee. watch maria and jose is right offshore here. take closer look at jose right now. we'll talk about maria at 9:30. let's get to it. first things first it feels like summer around here after a couple weeks of feeling like fall, summer has returned. feel more like august the next couple of days including this morning overnight lows only about 70. lots of humidity out there to kick start your day here. 73 now in washington. 72 annapolis. north and west, frederick 70 degrees. 64 in lynn chester haven't seen the 50's in quite sometime in the early morning hours. we won't see it most of this week we'll see those temperatures above normal. all right. cloud cover to your east. that's jose. not going to make a direct impact to our region. in fact, we'll have some sort of fringe impacts here in the form of some storm surge perhaps rip tides and the potential for little bit of rain around here particularly tomorrow. i do want to mention today we'll be looking at a mix of clouds and sun. and it will be a warm and sticky afternoon. daytime highs

they were told to bring with them everything they will need food, water, supplies, tools, crews are still working to restore power on duvall street it's still a ghost town and tens of millions of dollars have been lost in the tourist town. ♪ the other big story this morning new developments from missouri protests continue for third straight night. st. louis crowds angry over the acquittal of a white police officer who shot and killed an african-american man. the crowd broke windows, members of the crowd broke kin windows and damaged property. since the rallies began police arrested more than 80 people. >> on saturday 23 businesses were vandalized and five police vehicles were damaged. organizers say they're frus frustrated they're non-violent demonstrations have been high jacketed by troublemakers. >> let's go! >> night three of violent protests in st. louis. people once again filling the streets sunday afternoon into the night angry about the

police officer jason stockily charged in the fatal 2011 shooting death of a black man anthony lamar smith. demonstdemonstrations sunday sts just that marching peacefully. as nighttime game things took a turn again. several dozen people could be heard breaking store windows and overturning potted plants and garbage cans. st. louis showed up in riot gear with shields to push back the crowds. >> the city of st. louis is safe and the police own the night. >> reporter: acting police chief larry o'toole says some people through rocks, bottles and even chemicals at the officers. a few people could be seen drying their eyes after being pepper sprayed. police at one point gave the order to disperse warning the crowd that anyone who didn't leave would be arrested. and they were. in all more than 80 people were taken into custody on various charges. >> we're in control. this is our city. and we're going to protect it

>> locals are now brace fog the potential of more demonstrations to night. ♪ taktake check the morning briefing. first up president president trump is in the big apple getting ready for his first address to the un general assembly tomorrow. he'll meet separately with the leaders of israel and france. on going tensions in north ko korea. other topics he might address include the civil war in syria, economic crisis in venezuela and the nuclear deal with iran. in the past, president trump has been critical of the un. he's even suggested making big budget cuts to the un. that criticism could come into play because one subject for the un this week will be reforming the organization itself. the seminary at catholic university of america has canned a speech that was to be given by a popular jesuit priest after conservative catholics protested catholic groups didn't want father james martin to speak at the university because

stance on homosexuality. our bob barnard is live from catholic university this morning with the latest. quite the controversy, bob. >> reporter: yeah, absolutely, holly. yes. this invitation to speak on october 4th was extended over a year ago. but just in the last couple of days, the theological college affiliated with catholic university revoked that invitation. basically told father martin, we don't want you to come. we can show you his picture. father james martin well-known popular somewhat controversial jesuit priest. he is and editor at large of the jew wis sit magazine come hearing to speak about jesus but his most recent book he's also an author which came out in june is call "building a bridge" how the catholic church and lgbt community is enter into a relationship of respect, compassion and sensitivity. some catholics are not happy with that whole approach and they started

theological college on social media with phone calls saying, don't have father martin come. well, that's the decision that the theological college has just made. basically, react to go all the blow back it was getting. in a statement the theological college says this "as a result of all the criticism, after consulting with university and archdiocese san advisers, the decision was made to withdrawal the invitation in the interest of avoiding distraction and no controversy. in no way does this decision zig nat approval or disagreement with the comments or accusations the various social media sites have made over the recent weeks ". >> catholic university trying to distance itself from that decision. and in a statement catholic university says this. "we regret the implication that catholic university supported the decision to revoke the invitation. universities and their related entities should be places for the free civil exchange of ideas. our culture is increasingly

hostile to this idea "by that the president of catholic university is referring to what's happened out in berkeley in california. the university of california revoking the invitations of people who have been deemed too controversial for the student body to listen to, to be exposed to. i will tell you, catholic university had father martin here a year ago. so he's been to the university. diss invited to the theological college. he was coming here again to talk about jesus but it's his views on homosexuality that have in a sense gotten him into trouble here and put him into the headlines because he's not coming now, guys. >> all right, the controversy continues. all right. bob, thank for you that. 9:10 is the time. comedian kevin hart saying sorry to his familiar fans after he became the center of anergies torsion investigation. we'll have all the details coming up. >> first tv patting itself on the back. the big games in the diversity category. we'll have the highlights from last night' emmy awards incl

>> steve, first up, just terrifying scene in new york city. two buses collide on a busy street. killing one person and injuring more than a dozen others. it happened just before 6:30 this morning in queens. police say a private tour bus crashed into a city bus as it was rounding a corner in flushing causing it to slam right into a building. 17 people are hurt. seven of them are in critical condition. the crash site is now causing a lot of traffic in that area. next up, a shocking attack in france which injured

american students from boston college. they are studying i was broad this semester. they were at the train station sunday when a woman sprayed the students in the face with acid. the students were treated for burns. police say the attacker was arrested and investigators have ruled out terror. important news for your morning commute. metro experiencing delays on parts of the orange line due to unforeseen construction delays after weekend track work. delays mostly affect the eastern end of the orange line new carrollton, land over, cheverly, deanwood and the minnesota avenue stations. trains are single tracking and running every 16 minutes. rolling stone magazine is going up for sale. the magazine founder jan plans to sell his company's controlling stake in the magazine when it started that magazine 1967 and says it went on to become the counter culture bible for baby boomers. now he says the publishing industry just isn't what it used to be so he's stepping down he and his

73 in fredericksburg. overnight lows, you know, typically might be in the 50s here north and west this time of year early in the morning not the case this morning. with everybody well into the 60s. 66 in winchester. 68 in hagersown. jose not too far away. at least outer cloud cover and some of the energy with it there right along the shore. bringing clouds to the beaches this morning. and some of that moisture and some of that cloud cover you can see it last couple of shots getting pushed into our he we will be looking at a partly sunny day today. and a humid afternoon with high temperatures about 80 for your monday afternoon. again we'll take a closer look at jose here not terribly strong hurricane but nuisance and enough of a force it will bring some pretty good search surge to the coastal areas. and in addition the threat of some rip tides so if you're down at the beaches tropical storm watches and warnings i think it becomes a warning later today from delaware up through southern new england and it's there we'll see the greatest impacts with jose

by to our east. i think our best chance for shower tomorrow as it gets a little closer. particularly out at the beaches and southern maryland. although we can't rule out the possibility of a shower later today. all right. triple threat at this hour. jose just talk about that take closer look in just a second. got maria unfortunately maria looks to bring 20-inches of rain across parts of the world that don't need it parts decimated a few weeks ago by irma. this look to to become a major hurricane impacting puerto rico as it moves across there over the next couple of days and some of those islands hard hit with irma. in addition we got lee. we're not terribly concerned about lee. watch maria over the course of time. latest guidance wants to keep it out to sea it will be close call bite end of this week and early next week the track of maria. this is jose. category one hurricane. notice hurricane that does not want to go away looks to want to pull off another loop here it may actually look back down and into the mid atlantic area by early next week. so we'll continue t k

doesn't leak. >> how many in all did he do? >> hundreds. >> hundreds, right. >> he started when you were how old? >> when i was in the seventh grade. >> you're now what grade? >> junior in high school. >> he's done pretty much a lifetime of these bags for you. how were the lunches? >> they're great. >> what was he packing for you? all right curious about that. turkey san witches most of the time. >> okay. okay. now i'm going to check back in with mewing you've gotten, going pretty well there. i was asking maggie how many you've done altogether. do you know. >> approximately 600. >> 600. you would bring them home. do you have a special place you store them? have they become sort of posters on your wall? do you put them. >> oy have this big bin i keep them all in. >> and they're all in order so you can go back to when you were younger and the very first one? you have them all in order that way? >> i don't have them in exact order. but they are in sort of groups like weeks. >> okay. >> what do you plan to do with them as you get older? >> i plan
