out. ma row ya is all right bringing strong winds and high surf to hatteras and ocracoke i'll lands. swimming and surfing in the water has been banned because of dangerous rip currents. >> so let's go ahead and check in with tucker now whose monitoring the storm and taking a look at our forecast as well. hey, tuck. >> hey, holly. yeah there are tropical storm warnings down there. obviously any time talking about tropical storms you have to take it seriously but not packing the same intensity or punch that it, maria i'm referring to, not packing the same punch or intensity it did a few days ago when it moved through puerto rico now category one hurricane with maximum winds of 75 miles an hour but those are well offshore. all right. real quick look at local conditions. we're 72 with live shot you saw the cloud cover across the area that is compliments of maria. and we are going to be under the nouns of this tropical system as it passes by to our east later today. so count on cloud cover kind of a mix of clouds and sun around here. just looking at the wind field down in the outerbanks. winds down there

25 to 30 miles an hour there along the outerbanks you can see some of the outer bands of rain associated with maria reaching the eastern coast there of north carolina. let me mention there could be shower or sprinkle for those of us along our lower eastern shore even as close as southern maryland later today asthma row ya passes by. the good news maria will not make landfall again with approaching cold front during the day tomorrow and thursday. it will be push out to sea, and we'll finally say good riddance to maria the next couple of days. 84 for us this afternoon the the clouds i just got a nice tweet and picture all are associated with maria and we should keep it dry later today. so for us, for most of the region, a dry afternoon an little cooler than yesterday. yesterday we hit 91. okay. plenty more weather coming up. big change in air mass means a cool down. hell let you know when that arrives in minute. back to you. >> thank you tuckerly while maria moves closer to north carolina the real crisis is puerto rico. the governor says the

the ones who survived are still dealing with major power outages intense heat, food shortage, water shortages and hundreds of people who flocked to airports to escape the island are running into issues there, too. >> conditions remain dire in puerto rico five days after hurricane maria ripped through the island. millions of people in the u.s. territory are lacking enough food, water and fuel. the heat is oppressive and power is out nearly everywhere. while some hospitals have electricity, others are relying on diesel generators to keep critically ill patients alive. communication is spotty and flights off the island are infrequent. >> every time we get signal, we get a call from the airline american and they keep saying saying they're canceled. >> hundreds of stranded tourists in puerto rico residents crowding inside an juan international airport desperate to get on one of the few flights off the island. >> this is like our fourth cancellation. so, um, they said they aren't going to get us out until

details now. bob. >> reporter: hey, maureen much this the law school up near capitol hill not the campus in georgetown. the speech is set for noon. we're told by some law students that some will be gathering on the main steps here starting about 9:30 to protest the appearance by the attorney general. as you mentioned, he's been invited by the center for the constitution which is group here at -- within the law school. and he's here to speak about free speech on college campuses. some faculty and some students say they do plan to protest the appearance. some students apparently will try to interrupt his appearance here and try to prevent him from speaking. we'll see how that goes. they've already put some barricades up here ahead of the attorney general's appearance here. as you mentioned, mr. sessions is here to talk about free speech on college campus in the wake of what happened in berkeley earlier this year. where they had a far right wing speaker planning to come. the speech was cancel. all kinds of trouble on the campus and in the streets there in berkeley california. president trump

tweeting that he might threaten to pull federal funding from berkeley if they did not allow speakers to appear on campus even if it might upset some students. locally we had a situation we told you about last week the theological college which is affiliated with catholic university withdrew invitation to a jeez is you priest and author who recently written a bock how the catholic church should bridge the gap with gay catholics, and because apparently the theological college got a blow back on phone calls -- with phone calls and social media they canceled that appearance, too. the critics here at the law school say wait a minute. here's a president of the united states and his attorney general working for the president who has been critical of nfl players expressing their first amendment rights. wishing to kneel during the national anthem to protest all kinds of things and in this week to protest the president attacking them. so a lot of reasons why the protesters don't want attorney general sessions to speak here. he is

fox5's melanie alnwick is live in shantel, virginia, this morning with more on their emotional return. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning, guys. we know they certainly did not leave without backup because medical task force one, new york task force one still now in puerto rico helping with the maria recovery mission. but for this group of virginia task force members, we're ta talking about firefighters, civil engineers, and doctors. they spent the last thee weeks in the virgin islands in puerto rico doing everything from tactical searches to getting to those people who really hasn't had any contact over the last couple of weeks. their final mission was homecoming. and you can hear the cheers last night as their team bus pulled into home base here in chantilly, virginia, last night. homemade signs and big hugs added to the celebration. i love the pictures of the kids with their parents. so special there. the team of 80 experts and 4k9s deployed september 6th to assist u.s. v

after those devastating storms trampled through. team members left their mobile phones at home so they can focus on the mission which means there had been no contact with loved ones until now. >> so much emotion. i cried. >> feels very good to be back. you know, we were deployed for nearly three week now. so, um, it's very good to see the families again. >> reporter: a few of these team members had only been back from hurricane relief efforts in houston with hurricane harvey for one night before they turned around again after fema activated them to go with this particular relief mission and we know that that's -- that's just part of what they do here in addition to assisting the community and fire fighting that they're -- putting their specialized resources to work. one really interesting story that i read one of the team members was blogging and he talk about how his daughter sent him an e-mail he printed

book that hit store shelves this today. zach joins us live from los angeles to dish all about it. hi, zach, how you doing this morning? >> hi, steve. thanks for having me guys. >> i was telling holly earlier, my coach an could you how amazing the 59 and instagram videos are lite literally in thp tree she was like what. >> she's videos captivate everybody. >> that's what fun about them. it's not just for just kids it's the parents and adults enjoy them just as much and i think it's because the stories are relatable whether it's fears or wishes or dreams we can universally talk about those in short little visual way. >> it's so amazing and you're taking this now and the attention that you've gotten from these with millions and millions of social media followers now you're going to the book form. i know the long-term goal here i think for you was to do direct feature films. so are we going to take the books and make them into films? what's the strategy here

>> that's the goal. steven spiehler reach out then wanted to start working most booing into a feature film. we've been making short videos for so long we wanted to tap into little longer len and a book format was something we can do with minimal budget so we went that direct instead of a feature film at the moment and it's been fun process. >> i'm sorry, zach, i thought i just heard you say steven spielberg reach out to you in this process. did i hear that correctly? >> yes. yes. am blinn entertainment and dream work have the option to the book right now. >> that is amazing. >> working on -- hopefully making a feature film in the future. >> look, honestly for you who just a few years ago you were in college, you were studying cinema, you were coming out with videos of cats with light sabres to have a steven spielberg to reach out to you honestly how excited were you when you found out about that. >> i was on plane going to mexico and i

because i was -- e-con believe what i was hearing. yeah, it was incredible. >> so when you look at everything that you have 82 done just so far in the last couple of years, obviously it's taking advantage of a high level. talent that you have, the opportunity to start putting together, um, you know u the instructional videos at first and then now doing what you do with magic and everything else. i mean you have to say i've really cup a long way in the last couple of years. >> yeah. it's been a ton of work but luckily i've -- i think the key is bringing people around that you are really creative and like mined that spur on your own creativity so that's what's been a huge help in the process is finding these other creatives to help not just my mine any more making these vitter crows. >> i think it's awesome. what are we going to get in the book now since we're used to seeing the short videos and you say this is a great affordable way to put more information out there. so what do we get in the book form? >> the book is about zach he's part of a

some reason he isn't magical much i was home schooled and sent to middle school for two years. in the because i wasn't magical but because there was a small parallel in there, and it was awkward and so we get talk about some of these moments in middle school that kids are going through whether it's bowling or making friends or social media even how to match that as young kid. it's really important those topics. but we also talk about zach's magic and how he actually does become a real life magician, but, of course, he's not trained. so everything goes wrong and public school in front of pe people. >> sure. >> and he's got to hide the ability but it's also fun because the book comes with free app and so it's a blend of when you scan the app over the book, it comes a life. all the animation the artwork will literally pop up it's like 3d pop up book that you can't break, and we thought it was a fun blend of digital and getting kids to read who are stuck on their phones these days. >> that is so cool. what great w

technology with reading and i understand there's going to be more book as well. this is the first of self that you're working on which i think is awesome. before we run out of time i want to ask you about the videos when you started doing the vines and now what we see on instagram, do you ever have a couple of favorites that stood out for you out of all the videos you've done over the years? >> yeah. i love the ones where i tackle my own fears so when i was kid i thought when you crack an egg, one of these days you're going to get a baby chick that pops out so we made video about that. and also how my toes i thought when i vacuum as kid if i got my toe stuck in the cleaner would it suck me up the vacuum cleaner and i would disappear forever. i love tackling my own fears in there and realizing that other people have the same thought and a lot of adults laugh at those because they're like i thought the same thing as kid. >> zach i think it's awesome. in ten seconds or less how much time do you put into each one of those 62nd individual 83 it. >> takes from three days to a month for one of those videos. >> wow! l
