gentlemen, thanks for coming in. of >> of course. we'll start mike with you. the president has been talking about this for awhile. the tax reform push we saw the announcement today. what's your take away >> there's something for everybody in it, which i think is a result of there's not enough in it. you can't criticize it immensely because the details aren't there and you can get enthusiastic about it because the possibilities are so large but the details aren't there. as congress works through and comes up with their process and starts filling in the blanks such as what are at brackets going to be now that we have the rates determined and things like that, i believe one side or the other will get more enthused or lessen thussed. right now, i see enormous possibilities but not victory >> the president focused a lot on fact that he said this reform is not for -- he wouldn't benefit from it. it's not for the rich. it's for the middle class, what's your take on the details that do you know >> i don't think the republicans learned anything from their failed attempts how many

affordable care act. this was deal that was written behind closed doors, it's a piece of legislation whereas mike said, the devils are in the details and we don't know the critical details. here's what we do know. we do know it's going to add 1.5 trillion dollars to our debt the next ten years and the republicans in order to if it this into the reconciliation process which allows them to only have 50 votes to pass, they've got find $3 trillion in offsets, where does that come from? i have to think the middle class will take a big hit from this tack plan. >> i think when you look at some of the details of this, one of the big reasons you take away a lot of deductions along the way and there's some numbers out there, all the analysis preliminary, but there's people that say, in the state of new york, you all take a hit because you're not able to deduct some local taxes along the way. so there's a lot of details out there mike that i think still need to be sorted through >> i'll tell you what i'm really excited about. and we'll see the det

they come out for the individuals but on the business side, lowering the corporate tax rate to 20% and that's a red line for the president. he says he won't go higher than that and the five-year instant expensing of capitol investment and things like that that will create enormous economic growth, job growth and create an expanding economy that will come up with some of that $3 trillion >> i'm going to give mike a bone and say i do think it's part of the congress in a bipartisan way to protect the r and dtax credit that spurred so much important innovation and research. but i have to note the state and local tax deduction which paul ryan has already said he wants gone, and he's called it a subsidy, that disproportionately affects blue states and i think it's interesting if you look now at what they were trying to do with the graham cassidy bill with healthcare and with the tax plan penalizing in an incredibly punitive and patently political way

like it was more like 95 or 96 for much of the day. of little bit of humidity and a lot more sunshine than we had yesterday. so this is our third 90 degree day this week and it's also our last. a change in seasons definitely coming, one more warm evening, it will be on the toasty side, you'll notice the breeze picking up and when it picks up it means that a dry front will come through, it's a leading edge of what we're calling the winds of change. and that breeze out of the northwest at 15 to 25 will help us cool off, although it will take till tomorrow evening. by friday, temperatures topping out in the low 70 and this weekend, gorgeous fall weather expected temperatures near 70. so plenty to look forward to with this seven-day, just to give you an idea of the temperatures, 79 tomorrow, then we drop to 74 friday. saturday and sunday only near 70, not a drop of rain on the

faith. i don't understand. >> that is university president sylvia ber real responding to the news, campus police are looking for this man spotted dressed as a construction worker. >> let's get you out to tom fitzgerald live on the au campus with more on fitz we've seen this happen before on campus. >> reporter: jim, shawn, we were just talking about this kind of thing last week. at georgetown university when they found swastikas inside the bathroom of a dormitory on campus a couple of weeks ago. before that we were at georgia washington university where somebody had posted anti-muslim flyers. this is a problem not only on this campus but progressively, campuses across this country, people coming on to these campuses and doing things like this in this instance this was a flyer with a confederate flag on it that said the words haz ua dixie, there was also piece of cotton on that

when we talked to the campus university police they want you to take a look at this. you see this guy, if this is a disguise, he was hiding in plain site. he got a bright yellow vest son's he's got a bright colorado shirt wearing camel pants in that unmistakable red helmet and jim and shawn this is what they're telling us about this. they don't think this was coincidence, these fires happened to show up here on campus last night. this is why. last night, while this was going on, there was a presentation here at au and it was the demonstration of the new anti-racist program that was a going to be part of the curriculum in the community. the professor who was running that was abraham kendi. we sat down with him and university president you saw at the top. the brand new president, sylvia brual, we spoke to him about the message it sends to the student body. we talked to her about what's going to go on as far as tighter security. >> this is the latest attempt on this campus

community as groups are trying to frighten other communities around this country. >> i think what we do know is from the security that is on campus that we actually have a suspect. not a person of interest, a suspect. and for all of those who actually are watching and listening, we would ask that you view the videos. >> we want to show you this scene too, it was a town hall that was held here on the campus this afternoon. the idea was to brief the campus community here about the latest in the investigation and also to hear back from students. and what they heard today was a whole lot of concern from this student body. concern about how could this happen after last may when you will remember, somebody hung bananas from trees, another incident somebody put up nooses in locations on the campuses. there was a lot of solidarity but a lot of pointed questions about what's going to be done from here on out

the last year on different areas in campus and not one public safety officer saw someone and stopped them is a problem. of we had an unknown man walk on to our campus last night at 10:00 covered up pretending to be someone and wasn't stopped by a single public safety officer. i think that's a huge problem. >> 6% of american university is black students that's not diverse, 14 percent of the faculty is black, that's not diverse. >>reporter: university officials responding saying they have made bigger steps towards diversity on this campus, they say they're not there yet but they're going to continue to try. campus tell us they need help on this, if anybody thinks they might recognize that guy you saw in that video, they really would like you to give them call tonight >> tom fitzgerald thank you very much. free speech especially in college campuses is made the headlines a hot recently. let's bring in frederick lawrence, a visiting professor at georgetown university and the

university outside of boston. you pointed this out and we said this several times. in 2017, hood imagine we'd still be talking about issues lime on college campus >> hard to imagine yet seems it's all we're talking about >> when you hear i mean yesterday, we had the attorney general speaking at georgetown university to an invited group of guests about free speech and we see issues like this where these images of hate are popping up at university. how do we balance this? how do these kids deal with these kind of issues >> i think the leadership has to come from the top. and the message has to be that we protect speech and we believe in free speech in the most robust fashion, there are limits and where there's an intentional act to threaten, not to question somebody, but when there's an actual intent to threaten or intimidate >> some people will say hey look,

up this confederate flag flyer here in the school >> and in some cases it might be. you did need to know what the person doing this had in mind. now, the president of american university was much closer to scene than i am, she said this was intended to threaten and disturb her students, that's something different >> when you talk about free speech from the vantage point of having speakers who may be a bit of a fire brand we saw ben shapiro, anne coulter, they said we oppose her stance we're going to protest it >> protesting her is fine prohibiting somebody from speaking is not. if somebody wants to come to campus and share views that are anti-inclusive, that are racist, i think that person probably has a first amendment right in state campus an free expression right in most

that's not the end. there's place for the president, the probe boast, the a dean to speak out and say the university has values and this person is free to say that but what that person is saying is nick with the highest values of this university. the answer is more speech, not less. >> do you still allow them to come to the university and speak a even though you're say looking would agree with what they're saying >> i think university have to be widely open, there are places of debate and discussion. >> i think that's the issue we're seeing a lot of students, uc berkley and some other campuses students some of the protests turned violent do you think students just aren't getting the message >> some of that violence not from the students. some of that is coming from the outside. now another question is how do you maintain campus safety? you watch what just happened at uc berkley and they had events that worked quite well but they weren't inexpensive, so you can sayc berkley spent $600,000 last week for milo yiannopoulos to come to campus and do you know what happened? nobody listened.

. we think we know the president loves to communicate via twitter, so the news that the social media site is considering a 280 character limit would be great news for him >> turns out he doesn't have access to it. twitter wrote it's trying out the new feature with a small group before launching it and last night a co founder tweeted that he was not in that test group. i've seen some people with it. there's a few out there not i think most at this point now people are just kind of trying to fill it up with as much useless information as they can. i think if it comes out if you have democrats who have access to that
