15 minutes away. we're told that this will happen before the girls come to the field and start playing. right around 6:00 is when we're expected to have the moment of silence. we'll have it for you coming up tonight at six. live in anne arrundel, matt ackland, fox5 local news. the mother of a man with autism is asking for your help tonight in identifying a thieve who swindled her son out of $600 in cash. this all happened back in august at a navy federal branch in rockville , a branch that has very. q. cameras and took very. q. pictures. fox5's paul wagner is live in rockville tonight with that story. >>reporter: the scam on its face is very sip many. someone comes up to you and says that they have a check that they need to cash, but they don't have a bang account of their own, can they use yours and use your atm to get the money out. that's what happened back in early august, the man walked in, deposited the check and

came out here and took cash out of this atm. let's show you these very sharp pictures. on august 11, montgomery county police say this man walked into the navy federal credit union and dwee posited a fake check written to the victim for an amount totaling more than $2,000 . he then walked outside and using the victim's stolen at m card and pin withdrew $600 in cash from the navy federal money machine. the victims' mother says her son is always trying to make friends and at the shopping subsequenter where he works thinks this man and others took advantage of him. they were absolutely targeting him because of his autism and his iq and his resulting desire to try and get along and be friends. they absolutely saw him as an easy mark. and i'm sure as things pan out and we'll find out that they've didn't it

you can see that this person has absolutely no fear because they think that they're praying on someone who doesn't have a voice . in my son's case he does have a voice and if my voice can help other people who have been victims in a similar way, i hope that it does. now what's really angered mrs. pots is what she says is the fact that a navy federal would not give her the $600 back. we did reach out to navy federal for a statement. they basically said that if anyone wants to contact them about an issue they will listen to them, get in touch with their security department, but they cannot talk about individual cases. one other note, this young man, according to miss pots was scammed twice in one day. not only was he scam med here, but they also picked him up and took him to a bank

headlines on this tuesday, a former us post office manager was sentenced to more than eight years for a federal corruption and drug distribution. prosecutors said the group containing hundreds of pounds of marijuana were not inspected at a northwest d.c. post office. a man charged with sexually assaulting a woman along a popular trail in fairfax is now facing more chargeses. jeremiah toll i is charged with seven kowns of sexual assault. the 18 year old is columns burglary and theft chargeses for stealing bicycles in delaware. investigators are still trying to identify the other thieves involved. in anne arrundel, this is surveillance video of a purse naching in walmart. this happened last thursday. a an elderly woman told officers a man approached her, snatched her purse and took off and right now that suspect is still at

>> more details are emerging tonight arrested on an outstanding that mass shooting in las vegas. we learned this afternoon the suspected gunman, steven paddock worked as a male carrier and as an irs agent disek aides ago. we're also learning about his father is who you're seeing on your screen. when paddock was just seven years old his father was arrest ed for bank rob rivment escaped and end up on the fbi's ten most wanted list. at some point he changed his name to benjamin erickson and moved to springville, illinois. that tragic, ironic connection to springfield and his criminal past and how his son gets engaged in a weapons related tragedy like this. erickson was on the run for about ten years before police caught him. investigators say erickson also ran a

the story. when the stories comings out we're all dealing with what we have. when the story dwies down and you you you go and you talk with some of the friends that were the friends, you're like, wait a minute, this is an ebb tirely different picture. that shocked me when you really have time to kind of dig under the surface what you discover. i look at making a murder which was big on netflix i know nothing about this case, but i was thoroughly fascinated by it and it really has rekindled a lot of interest in these cases that are still well up in the air. >> absolutely. i think this case, you know, had everything. they had money. they were good looking. they are knee this incredibly affluent neighborhood less than a half a mile from the vice-president's home. you you are also going to discover on this pod cast that it's incredibly rare that a family is held in their home for 19 hours hostage. that usually doesn't
