grief for every american who lost a husband or wife, a mother or father, a sop or daughter,■ we knowthat your&-úsu carry your pain. you're not alone. we will never leave your side. the president mentioned he was fullly briefed on suspect and described paddock as a sick dim entered man an reporters attempted to ask him if the shooting warned another look at gun control laws and president did not answer those questions. however, on capitol hill democrats are pushing a new measure to tighten gun control laws. senator diane finestein introduced legislation to ban bump stocks that those used by las vegas gunman. the device allows semi-automatic rifle to function like automatic weap

weapon. the ban would not apply to u.s. agencies or departments and governments. it should be the highest priority. >> some said we should not do this now. we should wait. now is not the time. ladies and gentlemen, when is is the time going to be there. there is no better way to honor 59 people slaughtered than to take action to prevent this from happening yet again. >> the senator went on to say the tragedy in vegas almost hit close to home. >> my own daughter was going to go. i have an email from her. she was going to go with neighbors and they -- for one reason or another both families decided they would not. they were going to stay at that hotel. that's how close it came to me. and i just thank god it's just one of those misss in life.

documents. hackers tested vulnerabilities in 21 states and there's no evidence any votes were altered. >> there are concerns that we continue to pursue. the committee continues to look into all evidence to see if there was any hypothetical of collusion. and i'm not going to even discuss initial findings because we have not any. >> and i'm not surprised they didn't use the term nothing burger. senate panel was focused on russian effort to push out social media efforts and examining more than 3,000 lynched ads on facebook around the time of the 2016 election. secretary of state rex tillerson is slamming nbc report he threatened to resign over summer. he met with reporters to deny the story that claimed vice-president pence had to talk the man out of resigning over the summer. tillerson had called

to answer questions about those words but later had a state department spokes woman deny it. >> there's never been a consideration in my mind to leave. i serve at the appointment of the president and i'm here for as long as the president feels i can be ufull to achieving his objectives. i learned there's some that try to sow disengs by tearing others apart in an effort to undermined president trump's own agenda. i do not an will not operate that way and the same applies to every on my team here at the state department. >> the president also responded saying total confidence in the setting of state and show down we always wanted texas oil man facing off with new york real estate developer and now oddly enough this time it's not over which will destroy the environment. >> and latest scandal capitol hill. tim murphy

11:41 pm
>> welcome back. we continue to learn more details about the las vegas shooting master and gunman. joining us to shed more light on the investigation a terror expert and former principal deputy under secretary of homeland security jack thank you for joining us tonight on the final five. and just to start, so we're about three days removed from most gruesome and heinous mass shooting in american history. and what do we know so far. why do we know so little about the shooter's motivation? >> well, we don't know much at all and we know very little about the shooter and except the i would say bare out lipdz of his life. he was accountant age 64 lives in nevada wealthy and liked to gamble and that's about. it and we don't really know much about his motivation. we know nothing about his motivation an we don't know houchk he planned this
11:42 pm
well planned attack and executed this after a lot of dlaib ration. he put a lot of weapons in eyes room at the mandalay bay and a lot of weapons at his house. as to any red flags he would do this or any reason that we can ascertain after the fact we don't know anything about this guy. >> what sort of steps are investigators going through probably at this moment to try to ascertain more sdm sure well certainly one of the biggest issues right now one of the biggest areas of investigation would be the perpetrator's girlfriend. she recently returned from philippines. she's being interrogated apparently a statement came out today she had no idea he had intention to do this and knew nothing about. it again there will be continued interrogation of her in the next
11:43 pm
other thing i'm sure they're doing is forensic harvest of his xawrz and looking at house and seeing if he had anything at all that would indicate some type of iping tension to do this. apparently this guy as a very small social media footprint. there's no indication he was a member of any radical group. no indication they was politically disaffected or indication he would do this at all. we've got newspaper of the traditional markers of terrorist for example. so right now we have on our hand a crypto killer because he's completely enigma to us. now what i think police should be doing is they'll look in his computer and house and look to see if he had any diaries many people have files on their computer they keep a personal diary or keep their personal thoughts. maybe he had something like that that will give
11:44 pm
as to the type of individual he was and why he would do this. and that's still in the process of being done. >> how does someone is like this fly under the radar of law enforcement. he was able to get massive arsenal into the hotel an up to his room and apparently had cameras and other things set up. how does something like this happen? >> well in this case it was probably not that difficult. he was in the hotel for three to four days prior to the shooting. he brought i believe ten separate suitcases in and probably staggered that he didn't bring them in all at once he may have done it over the last three or four days. don't forget weapons that were used in the shooting these weapons can be disassembled and broken down. so he's not walking in ca carrying large bundles of canvas that look like guns, he would break the weapons down and put them many a suitcase
11:45 pm
what's in there. again it's a busy hotel and you go in and out and off the elevator and go to your room. nobody will sit and question what you're doing. regard to cameras again he's doing this maybe in the wee hours of the morning bringing cameras up one in the hallway and ear one in his room to indicate when and where the first responders would come once he was involved in his shooting spree. >> so there's a lot to be learned in the coming days and weeks and going on. jack, thank you for joining us. and the final five will be right back. ack.
11:46 pm
woman: so, greg, it's a lot to take in. woman 2: and i know that's hard to hear, but the doctors caught it early. hi, blake! my dad has cancer. woman: and i know how hard that is to hear. but you're in the right place. man: and dr. pascal and her team, they know what to do. they know what to do. the doctors know what to do. so here's the plan. first off, we're going to give you all... accounts and put have multiple account and tremendous data and passwords and answer security questions and share across other account and verification questions and troubling. >> and between these two massive data breaches you mentioned yahoo breach what is value of information to hackers. how is it being used by people hope have breached these accounts? >> yeah, so the most obvious thing obviously is break into accounts themselves and yahoo indicate when billion records they forced all users to reset accounts. >> if you share passwords
11:51 pm
themes toll passwords on security or if authenticating to sungle account like email account that gives you ak is to everything. when you reset your password if email password is week you have real problems because authentication goats then and you reach your password and becomes a real problem. >> what kind of ram if i cans do we see from all this. what can anyone who say had their accounts breached by these what resource course do they have. lawsuits against these companies. what happens next. >> dozens of lawsuits filed against equifax and potential of regulatory action. problem regulations in this space are difficult because technology move quukly and regulations of laws are sticky and hard to change. and in area of high technology and development technology add vantsment and cyber security threat moving quickly it's hard for regulations
11:52 pm
more likely what you want to is see is companies under economic pressure, equifax ceo stepped down economic pressure to dot right things. and their brand and so i don't think it's for lack of information or knowledge the companies are not doing the right thing i think in part of challenge it comes out of hard time working together and need to work with government and collectively as a nation need to figure out how to defend against the highest influx of state actors. >> well i hope that any one who received my information in the breach just bullpied up my credit score a couple hundred points. that you for joining us as always and final five will be back in a moment. oment. sorry, actually, we're going on to well billionaire businessman with zero experience other than starring in reality tvrm v show considering a run for
