birth control mandate >> as you can see from the rundown, these are the stories we're talking about here at 6:30 and of course, join the conversation if you'd like. today, president trump issued new rules allowing employers to opt out of providing birth control for religious and moral reasons. a number of preproductive rights group said they will bring legal challenges planned pattern hood called it unacceptable. the trump administration says it is trying to protect the religious freedoms of all americans. >> the president believes that the freedom to practice one's faith is a fundamental right in this country and i think all of us do. and that's all that today was about >> joining us to break down what all this means is kimberly leonard reporter from the washington examiner. for everybody watching us, sort of break down, i guess what this revision means for women and employers >> before obamacare,
6:31 pm
essentially, women who needed birth control could access it without any type of co pay and that men everything from iud's to emergency conception, the pill. there was a wide range of service. now, there are exemptions that are more broad than ones created under the obama administration and remember, it was controversial even under the obama administration. it went before the suprem court. now employers were essentially say i have a moral objection to covering some forms of birth control so i will no longer be covering them >> that's any company, any private company or organization >> any public organization, nonprofit, things like that. it is very broad. but they have to have some sort of objection that is religious objection or moral objection. the thing is i asked about whether they would checkup on it to make sure that they in fact let companies, in fact, did have these injections and they won't have way
6:32 pm
>> let me ask you, we understand there are a number of different organizations that have already begun the lawsuits to fight back >> the aclu is threatening to sue the administration over it. there are certain paths they can taking it's going to be a little bit did you not because under the obama administration's role, there were so many lawsuits and there are still about 50 pending lawsuits that started from under the obama administration, so all of that is going to be worked out. but the way they did this can be attacked. whether companies are going to try to limit women's access to birth control is going to be looked at as well. >> all right. big news today. kimberly leonard, thank you so much from the washington examiner for shedding light on it. appreciate it. today's jobs report shows the extraordinary impact recent weather events have had on our economy. calculations from estimated it could cause between
6:33 pm
and 245 billion in economic losses >> that was the white house press secretary responding to the latest jobs report. the economy lost 33,000 jobs last month. it's the first jobs loss in nearly seven years. experts blame the drop on the recent hurricanes. here's the deal. the news was not all bad. of the unemployment rate fell to a 16-year low >> we're here going to break down the economy numbers, chris thanks for joining us. when we hear the news first off, that this is the first job loss in seven year, should we be concerned or more focused on the good news that the labor market still is in good shape? >> absolutely. we certainly should be focused on good news as pnc chairman gunshot said it's definitely steady and in good shape. but this is external about the disaster. we have cities that were completely devastated during the hurricane. and so this is more about being able t
6:34 pm
is obviously a major loss of jobs, the good news is, because of federal aid and insurance, there will be jobs for rebuilding cities and rebuilding major infrastructures because of this. >> let's talk about trump, of course, kind of being cryptic lately about something. >> before we get to that, characteristics let's play the sound bite. a lot of people were on the internet. talking about the president, as he made these sort of ominous warning during a meeting with his military leaders. let's listen to that first. >> do you know what this represents? the calm before the storm. >> what storm? >> we have the world's greatest military people. i'll tell you that. thank you all for coming. >> what storm, mr. president >> you'l
6:35 pm
>> right there, you know, he's talking about the military leaders in the room. makes you think with the foreign policy challenges we got going on something is coming in that regard. >> obviously, he's strong military and strong with keeping america strengthened all the way around. when you have north korea it's obviously a major situation to his. president trump clearly is being strong and obviously being cryptic and people obviously try to do that all day. that's just his kind of humor character, he wants people to kind of wonder what's going on, at the end of the day we'll find out soon, he certainly is strong when it comes to north korea and we're not tolerate anything, as well as when it comes to other i ran sanctions. i think the best thing we can do is wait and see, he certainly was in the room with all of his military officials for the most part and had, i'm sure
6:36 pm
conversation and was very enlightened what he was talking about >> it was interesting in the they were staying in line. what has become the feud between president trump and secretary of state rex tillerson and reports that he called him a moron. today, there are reports that the head of the cia mike pompey yo could replace him. what are your sources telling you about what's going on inside the white house and could we see another cabinet member leave? >> i certainly think, i don't think secretary tillerson is going to be leaving. my sources certainly tell me something completely different. and i can almost be certain that tillerson is not going to be going anywhere. i think this has -- people are obviously this has been a very unique administration, obviously, than any other
6:37 pm
secretary tillerson has his way, president trump brought him in for a reason, his experience overseas and strong business experience, i don't think that -- people obviously are -- are feeding and buying into something bigger thank obviously, i think the relationship is certainly fine. this is probably something someone according to people i spoke with, of course, is something that the media and other folks i'm sure have turned around a little bit, they have a good relationship, secretary tillerson is doing his job, of course, everyone does not agree all the time. so i'm guessing that someone probably minced words.
6:38 pm
that's what i'm guessing. so your thoughts on cia director mike pompeo? that's kind of been the rumor out there, when you start hearing names being thrown about, you got to wonder if someone is in the wings waiting to move into the spot. >> you know, dc is an interesting place and this is an interesting political time. like a lot of our friends say, never put anything past anybody in this town. but i look i sort of think right now the last thing the administration needs is to have another movement. there have been a lot of different movements, obviously since he's been president. inaugurated. and last thing we need to move tillerson out. but president trump will make decisions based on information that he has and the best he has is the information he may not have. so i certainly do not believe at this time at least secretary tillerson, obviously, will be replaced. i think he'll be there for now. >> we will be watching and waiting, chris

6:41 pm
>> what the nra has said we ought to take a look at that and see if that's in compliance with federal law, and is worthy of additional regulations. that being said, we didn't say ban or confiscate. >> reporter: for some democrats, all of this is one thing, inadequate. >> if this majority believes that a bump stock prohibition is enough, they've been smoking something. >> house minority leader nancy pilosi said some will argue legislation on bump stock is a slippery slope to more gun control. she said she hopes that it is. in washington, ellison, barber, fox news. vice president mike pence traveled to san juan today, greeted troops assisting with recovery efforts following hurricane maria, it comes days after president trump visited the territory. praised workers, relief efforts, the federal
