♪ straight ahead, fast-moving flames tearing through california. this morning, at least ten people are dead, 100 more are missing and more than 100 homes are gone. now first responders are working around the clock to try to get those fires under control. a young woman from bowie, maryland, shot and killed by miami beach police over the weekend. i'm melanie alnwick with reaction from her family. within or go home. the washington nationals on the bring of elimination after losing game three in the windy city. now manager dusty baker is facing backlash from fans after some controversial calls including pulling ace max scherzer that may have led to the loss. ♪

what donna karan said about the woman he reportedly harassed that has her under fire. all right. before we get to ought of that first breaking news to talk about. california up in flames right now crews are battling deadly wildfires burning in both northern and southern cali california. now the flames have already burned home after home at last count at least 1,000 are gone. in some areas entire neighborhoods have been wiped out. now in napa, a famed winery is nothing but ash at this point. >> in the meantime tens of thousands of people are living right in the line of fire. fleeing the flames with literally nothing but the clothes on their back. let's start with maureen who has more on the devastating situation. >> devastating is the right word for thumbs several counties in northern california are under state of emergency this morning and widespread evacuations are underway. >> fast-moving deadly wildfires are burning their way through california. more than a dozen fires broke out mums simultaneously sending crews scrambling and many of those fires are not small.

an idea. the smoke clearly visible from space. statewide more than 1600 homes and businesses have been destroyed and at least ten lives lost. looking at the fire damage, it's not hard to see why so many mandatory evacuation orders are in place. these piles of rubble were once homes. john graves and his family used to live in one of those piles in so mow know. >> been here 25 years. it was a great neighborhood. it's going to be lot of work getting it back. >> reporter: nearby in napa, flames scorched their way threw wine country. devastating wineries and leaving owners wonder wagon will happen to the industry. even a local hilton hotel start to do catch fire. vice-president mike pence vowed washington's full support during a visit to manufacturing facilities in sacramento. >> the federal government stands ready and to provide any and all assistance to the state of california. >> reporter: and more than 100 to us san people are without power in just two c

attending a country music festival. campos reported to hotel security he had been shot but that information never made it to the police. meanwhile authorities acknowledge they are still at a loss when it comes to actually stabbing a motive. all right. 90:00 sick is the time right now. we have new details in the story we've been following all morning long talking about one i don't mean from prince george's county shot and killed by miami police officer over the weekend, and killed by miami beach police officers over the weekend. now her name is cariann hithon. she's from bowie, married. this morning her father is speak out. fox5's hell knee alnwick joins us now life there with details. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning, guys. cariann's father tells me his faith is getting him through all of this. he was visited by prince george's county police officers yesterday morning and when they won initially tell him why they were there, he knew it was something very bad. now, in miami beach, it was a scene on sunday of salute chaos.

officer struck, we have disturbing video that miami music producer shot at the final moments of the incident. we want to you take a look at that right now. first you're going to see the car there the bmw with bumper crashed in and then a crowd starts to gather around some of them are engineering taking pictures shouting a man tells police officer that the driver tried to leave the scene. you're also going to see a young man get out of that vehicle. i think -- he's right there in the sunglasses and the white shirt. he got out of the car then right there the car suddenly speeds away. hitting a police officer and then several shots are fired by another police officer who was also walking down the street and unfortunately the car ended up crashed into another vehicle. now, this all happened on 12th street and ocean drive about sick p.m. sunday. right downtown miami beach. police do say that the black bmw crashed in e

then struck a second car on lincoln drive and then drove off again. and it was there on lincoln drive where you saw instagram video here the aftermath as w well. so speeding away from that crash is when the bmw struck the uniformed officer. unfortunately, cariann's father is just left trying to make sense of all of this. >> my meadery action when the police officer gave me the report at what happened, upping, of course, rage went up in me, you know, how could things escalate with, you know, a 5-foot three, hundred 10 pounds soaking wet young lady couldn't harm a fly could escalate to that. that was my meadery action. and then, you know, looking at the other details, i mean, i can only surmise that my daughter panicked. >> reporter: now, cariann unfortunately was given cpr on the scene and didn't

you see a video here of her in a hampton university civility class her father says she got herself into school on scholarship and transferred to temple university in 2017 major in political science and philosophy. she has linked profile as well showing she participated in mentoring and leadership programs. she also did some summer work at prince george's county as well. now, her father also tells us that just hours before she had been texting and snap chatting with her mother and her sister about the great weekend she was having to celebrate her bir birthday. so they really are trying to make sense of what happened here. her father says he believes she may have had some kind of a mental break saying she did have some mental health issues in the past. we should let you know that the police officer is in serious condition in the hospital. but is expected to survive his injuries. and of course, there is an o on-going investigation the officer that did the shooting is on administrative leave. live in bowie, i'm melanie

>> this is my community, those are my kids. this is not okay with me. it shouldn't be okay with anyone especially our lawmakers. there needs to be an arrest. we need send a message and these children need to be arrested. this was threat. this is conspiracy to commit a felony, and anything less than arrests of these children is a gross miss justice. >> parents say this is not the first case of cyber bullying or just bullying in general at liberty high school and they're taking action and they are writing letters to state and congressional leaders so that the law can reflect these types of acts. sticking with schools the montgomery county board of education is meeting today to go over next year's school cal calendar. montgomery county is the state's largest school system. five scenarios could pan out but no one is exactly thrilled about them and the board is open to ideas. spring break could be cut short or teacher work days even some holidays are in jeopardy. state law requires maryland students to attend 180 days of school. montgomery county set up a

♪ 21 past the hour right now. allison is back with a check on what's making headlines this morning. good morning al. >> good morning everybody. we begin in texas where 19-year-old is in custody for killing a university police officer at texas tech. officers were doing welfare check on hollis daniels last night. now they went into his dorm room and found evidence of drugs. the university says they took hollis into custody while at the campus police station investigators say hollis pulled out a gun and fatally shot an officer in the head before running from the station. he was later apprehended. a montgomery county firefighter has been taken to the hospital that happened this morning after battling a garage fire in kensington. that fire broke out just after 5:00 this morning in the 11,000 block of valley view avenue. the firefighters injuries not considered serious. no one else was hurt. the candidates vying to be
