paul wagner. he's live in edgewood where it all began. paul? >> reporter: this is the business behind me where it happened before 9:00 this morning, five people were shot inside this business here in a business park just off i95 three were killed two wounded, taken to a shock trauma in baltimore where we understand they're in critical condition. let's show you a little bit now, some information that we can pass along to you right away. this much we know so far. radee prince was a current employee of advanced granite solutions. of he has four months on the job. witnesses say he used a handgun. there were multiple people inside the business, who ran outside, who were not wounded by the gunfire and his motive at this point is unknown. the sheriff says this is very dangerous man, they don't know his motis,

and that the public should remain vigilant. let's show you video we shot earlier. at 8:58 this morning, the sheriff's office received a 911 call for a shooting inside a business in the emptierton business park off i95 in edgewood maryland. inside duties and found five victim. three dead. the two others were air lifted as i mentioned to baltimore shock trauma. all five are employees of advance granite. kevin doyle was in the back of the business when he said he heard a commotion. >> i was behind the building on the way to my tools and saw three spanish guys running back screaming, i could tell something was right and i said do you need help? they said call 911. someone is shooting next door. pretty much it. called 911 and they all scattered. went different directions and i started walking over that way and they said don't go, stay away from there. >> reporter: did you end up seeing him >> no, by the time i got there, people started coming out of th

that was about it. it was chaos. >> now, investigators say the shooter was identified very quickly by witnesses inside the business. and documents knew who they were looking for. radee prince, 38-year-old man driving plaque gmc ikeaed day with black delaware plates. police say he shot a man in the office of a used car lot. a fact confirmed by the sheriff who had this to say and an afternoon news conference around 2:00 today. here's the sheriff. >> it only takes 20 minutes to get to wilmington from here. certainly, i wouldn't say be -- -- be, where he seems in this incident to to have targeted his workplace. i don't know what the relationship is up there but i still believe he's probably targeting for a specific reason and not general. it doesn't mean he's an arm killer out there. so

anyone he encounters. >> reporter: we know that the authorities have been searching addresses, connected to prince, they have been looking for him in delaware, all through the maryland and up and down i95. they've been using helicopters and swat teams and dogs. the sheriff also wanted to pass along, of course, that they don't know his motivation and he wants the public to remain vigilant. here's the sheriff >> we have no information to say he has separated himself from the vehicle, we're again just calling for the public's help, not to try to encounter this suspect but if you see him, please pick up the phone and call 911 and let your local law enforcement know. he's gone from heartford county to delaware. we don't know what his intentions are or what his next stop may be. >>reporter: now, we know from the sheriff that they knew who they were looking for quickly because

business saw prince and now we know that apparently a witness up in wilmington delaware also identified prince and that's where we'll go now. my colleague, matt ackland is in wilmington with the latest on the search for prince and what happened up there. matt? >> reporter: paul, i'm here at the wilmington police department where there's a special command center set up on the second floor of this police station are authorities throughout this area, we're not just talking about delaware. we're talking about new jersey and maryland. they're all searching for radee prince, earlier the chief basically laid out the connection. he said it happened at a car dealership when prince arrived there and shot someone he apparently knew. police responded and went right for the victim and apparently at that time, prince's suv

leaving the scene, they wanted to attend to the victim first, then chased after the suv but it was able to get away. we asked the chief if he knew of anyone where prince may have gone to, anyone, any family member that may be shelter ing him in place and the chief had this comment for anyone who may be sheltering him tonight. >> this is a dangerous individual. this person shot six people in one day. three are dead right now. three are dead. this is a person with no conscious. this is not a person you should be protecting. this person doesn't deserve any protection of what he's done to five innocent people and the individual and the other innocent person that he's done up on 28th and northwest boulevard. my message to them is make a phone call, let us know where he's at. because he's going to go out and do more harm because he's desperate right now and as my officers south

want any of my officers coming across this individual as well and not knowing who this individual is. so they can cause harm to my officers or the public. call us, let us know where he is. give us information, help us out. because right now, this person is taken three lives and he's damaged three others. and he doesn't deserve to be protected. that's my message to anybody harboring this individual. >> something that was very shocking at the press conference, chief said the law enforcement here in delaware knew prince very well. in fact, he has been arrested 45 times, and there were 15 felony convictions. i talked to an officer, they say that is very rare for someone to have that many felony convictions. the one thing they believe that links these two actual crimes is that prince knew the victim. they believe that he knew the victims, they're not sure where he is

prince's home which i don't know how well you guys can see there, but it's directly behind that pole right next to that white house there. neighbors again, were stunned in disbelief, outside lingering around. many at one point were wondering when they'd be allowed back inside their homes. i do want to show and point out the video what it looked like earlier today. we're told police and swat teams, they've been out here since at least 10:00, 11:00 this morning, neighbors told us, you'll notice many of them like i mentioned armed with the shotguns, swat members carrying around assault rifles and neighbors just, you know, in general, stunned by all of this. they say they just can't believe the man accused of shooting and killing several people today in different jurisdictions lived right next door to them and one neighbor we spoke to, he described what it was like, his encounters with prince when he saw him outside. >> he was always nice.

i mean, he come out one morning and i said you need some help? he said i got it. no big deal. he never once showed any aggression. i come home three hours ago. and it was like, what the hell is going on? where do you live? i told them. they said well, your house is safe. next thing i know, i saw eight of them go in my house and had the windows open and sitting in my house. using my house as a base. i live right next door, i'm still trying to make -- you know, i mean, i live right next door to a killer. how do you fathom that? how do you process that? . >> reporter: that neighbor you just saw and heard from there

>> to start, corporations and small businesses alone, this was a small business, five, eight, ten employees need to understand what workplace violence is. what it is not. and then what to do about it when it comes readily apparent that something is occurring. what are we seeing the pattern of? he didn't suddenly just decide this morning, this was something that was built up, built up. the employees recognized it for the months that he worked there. there needs to be with every company and corporation, a policy in place understanding what it is, what to do to help those individuals on an off-ramp, as it were instead of going down to that path to this horrible strategy >> when you have companies doing these active shooter trainings, coming up with some soft of plan, are you noticing more and more businesses at least planning ahead for the

>> there are a lot of companies being proactive and that is fantastic, there is room for improvement. you're seeing a lot of the recuperation, the continuation of operations, because that's a business. and that means money when these things occur. any active shooter event, it is discovered that roughly 25% of the employees will not come back to work. those employees of this particular location probably won't be back to work or this business, might actually go out of business. >> every business is different. some are small. some have, you know, numerous employees. what lengthths should the employer go to make sure that everybody on their staff knows perhaps there's a concern with somebody in particular, like, what can they tell you? there's a legal issue there as well >> sure there is, but once it becomes readily apparent, the employee, it's about reporting, it's up to the employee, not necessarily the employer who might not know,

not know. it's those individuals employees that said hey, you know, joe has said a few things that really aren't appropriate and reporting that. and then that, the employer then can take action, which none of the other employees really need to know about. let's be honest. we've all been in situations where you may have a coworker that you think people will joke about it flippantly, that will be person that will come back and do something. who do you tell aside from your coworkers? do you reach out to police? there's a whole system of notification things like this needs to be out there. >> in the companies and corporation that is have put those standard operating procedures in place, there's human resource, employee action or assistance programs that you can report to a supervisor and it's up to the supervisor then to inform possibly the security department for the smaller companies that might not have that type of capability, you know, it is
