shooting for today and some parents want to keep their kids home. fox5's bob barnard is live at green belt at rows vessel high school with the latest. bob? >> reporter: allison, as promised, police are displaying a show of force here this morning outside the school. this is the main entrance here to eleanor roosevelt high school in green belt. you'll see just up the hill here you've got both green belt police and prince george's county police parked here with their lights flashing they've been here about 45 minutes or so. classes started 8:40 this morning. the question is are students staying home today because of the online threat? we want to show was was posted on snap c chat. these are screen shots from two images here. one of them saying "don't go to school on monday" the other saying "think i'm kidding?" with them are photos of assault rifles. no mention of eleanor roosevelt high school but these images were shared among and target

toward rows vessel high school students. now, we can show you earlier the police were actually patrolling the parking lots here with their lights flashing this is green belt police cruiser. we've seen a couple of prince george's county silver and blue cruisers go around the other side of the school here, um, we have spoken to parents and students this morning. here now two reactions that we've gotten so far. >> i was made aware of it, but i didn't really think too much about it, 'cause, um, i really don't know. i didn't think too much about it at all. >> reporter: you think it's more of a prank or joke or something. >> that's what i thought it was. >> reporter: what do your friends think. >> i don't really know. i haven't talk them about it yet. >> reporter: your parents were okay with you going to school. >> yes. >> reporter: what do you think of something like this. >> it doesn't faze me. it doesn't seem like legitimate thing that would happen. >> i'm not the type of parent would hear a warning, be cautious. tomorrow is not promised. >> reporter: even if this is a kid making a joke,

not serious. >> this is a zero yes of fence either way. you know a kid even having that much artillery for no reason. you're not at war. you're in america the land of the free so there's in no reason why you should be coming to school with guns. >> reporter: even a person grabbed that photon line somehow and put the words on it. >> no. still. you know that's still -- you don't scare parents like that, you know, still even not just, you know, other people's parents, your parents. >> reporter: the parents of the student involved here now. as you see, police are here again this morning. now my colleague evan lambert reported op this story last night, and he says, he was in touch with the person he believes sent out those photos on snap chat, and that person told evan that this was a joke. he was just kidding. but as you see, police and the school system are taking this seriously. still debate right now whether to cancel after school activities. that decision has not been made. classes are going on. we're not sure how many parents

today here at eleanor rows vessel as you see a lot of police presence just in case. guys? >> bob barnard roaring. thank you bob. 90:00 is the time. we're following developing news out of alexandria, virginia. two people are dead and a third is fighting for think live after a triple shooting at a park last night. how now it happened in all veterans park along north picket street. fox5's anjali hemphill is live in alexandria with the late latest. anjali? >> reporter: good morning, wisdom. police have still not released many -- much information about the shooting that happened here last night at all veterans park. this is off north hick street in alexandria. however, neighbors tell me that the shooting happened right around that picnic table you see way down there along the walking trail there. neighbors also tell me they heard a suck suggestion of gunshots then a pause and then possibly some more gunshots after that. take look at our video last night of the huge police presence that showed up here to the scene. this was

9:00 o'clock last night. and at first officers were searching the area on foot. they also had their chopper in the air but it was later that night police said that the three people that were shot here in all veterans park were the only ones involved the incident is confined to the park and there's no danger to the community. again, two people are dead. one is in the hospital last we heard with serious injuries. police are not releasing the victim's names or ages and they have not released a motive in this shooting. however, a neighbor did tell fox5 last night they believe the shooting may have been domestic in nature. our cameras did capture an emotional scene out here as possible family members of the victims showed up here to speak to police. we also got some reaction from people who live around here. take a listen. >> it's shocking actually. i mean it's a safe neighborhood, um, so stuff like that doesn't happen around here. >>

to proceed. in the meantime house republicans are set to vote on major tax overhaul this week and this come after the senate passed $4 billion budget proposal on fry. president trump warn if the house does not follow suit it will be failure for the gop. analysts say the white house is simply looking for a legislative win and they are willing to negotiate as long as the final bill helps the middle class. the administration says the tax plan promises the highest tax cuts in american history. back over to you guys on the couch. >> all right. thank you much, steve. at the same time the investigation continues into the death of 4us service members killed in niger earlier this month and so did the back and forth between the commander in chief and a congresswoman over that phone call to military widow. >> mourners gathered in south florida on saturday to say goodbye to sergeant la david johnson. johnson along with staff sergeants brian black, jeremiah johnson and dustin wright were killed in an ambush attack earlier this month in niger by militants linked to isis.

pick some up where you buy groceries. well october is recognized as national domestic violence awareness month and our next guest is a survivor and a well-known speaker on this issue and it's all because of her ex-husband convicted and now he can cuted d.c. sniper john allen muhammed. we're talking about award winner speaking and author mildred muhammed whose then outbound along with lee boyd malvo went on a killing spree back in 2002. shooting and killing ten people. now since then mildred has written several books sharing her story of domestic violence and abuse at the hands of her ex-husband john allen muhammed and she also shares the role that faith, resilience and strength has played in her life sense then. this morning she joins us in studio live to tack about the issue of domestic violence, her

up the pieces of her life and her new book "i am still standing". >> good morning. >> good morning. >> it's good to see you again. >> good to tee sue. >> we were talking off camera about your journeys and when you go and speak to other people so they do not end up in your shoes. can you tell us briefly about your message when you talk to women? >> the first and that i want to say is that, um, we were not married at the time he was looking for me. i was his ex-wife and 75% of women who try to leave and abuse seive relationship are either hurt or killed. so what i try to put -- give to other people is to let them know that you do not have to have physical scars to be a victim or survivor of domestic violence, because i didn't have physical scars. high hope was slow in coming. you have to help the police to build their case when you don't have scars. date and time of the incident, if there are witnesses available, try to get a

that the police can see a pattern of abuse when that are no physical scars to prove that you are a victim. >> so what would that be? intimidation? bullying? >> intimidation are bullying. constant phone calls. harassment. talking to friends and family. trying to humiliate you or make you feel like you're not worth anything. anything along those lines. do you mean, document, document. >> and the point that you made about the fact that he was looking for you, that is that he went on this killing spree and then you would be one of the victims and you would sort of be lost in the confusion of all of the victims, is that correct. >> that is what law enforcement said that he was killing innocent people to cover up my murder so he could come in and get custody our children. the second book details and came out this summer but it details more of what your kids went through. >> yes. >> this is something that is not affecting only the victim or the wife or the ex-wife but the and tire family. can you speak on that? >> well with my children it was tryingo

and accept what their dad had done to destroy other families, and also, to accept how they were feeling. so that they could move from being emotionally balanced children to emotionally balanced adults. and that was my goal in trying to make sure that we uncovered every emotion. we look it up in the dictionary to try to find the ones that they, that's correct affected them, dealt with that, moved on from it on to the next. >> even after the threat is g gone, the man or the woman who's the aggressor, there's still some work to do. >> there's still some work to do. the not just because arrested or they're no longer able to get to you through a restraining order, there's still emotions. >> right. >> victims are still emotional al tajed to the abuse soar and it is until they sever that tie then they're able to focus more on what they need

of how the abuser looks at them or feels about what they're doing. >> right. your case was interesting, ms. muhammed, because not only did you suffer what you suffered but then again you talk about victim blaming. you talk about the media and you talk about even community members sort of turning on you, that tide turning and how you dealt with that. >> right. >> can you talk to us about what that felt like and the message of victim blaming? >> well, victim bla blaming is t causes many victims to stay in abusive relationship no one wants to be blame for what the abuser has done. it's easier to continue to victimize the victim because you as well as the victim is afraid of the abuser so you watch what the abuser is doing to the victim and you don't want any part of that. it's easier for to you say why don't you leave, why don't do you that instead of trying to help or trying to address what the abuser has done to victim. victim blaming i went through was the

i would have stayed with him he just would have killed me. if i would have stayed on the west coast the people on the east coast would still be a l life. how dare i call me and my children victim when none of them were hurt or killed and how dare i bring this drama into this quiet community. i didn't have any friends. nobody want to do to be around me. they'd rather be around me at night instead of during the day. my children some of their friends the parents would no longer allow them to play with them and i told them that's okay because all parents are trying to do is protect their children. don't be upset with them. you will meet new friends and they have. my children are just now hearing what the community had to say about us, because i told them that i was able to take that and i was trying to prevent them from being emotionally scarred so they can grow up to be emotionally balanced. >> it's been some years now since your ex-husband has been put to death. that this again is behind you. so how are you t

how do you do that in one shot. >> in the mill of the name i came up with a plan. we actually already had blood on matt' nose and in the middle of the night i thought if we get two pieces of mono filament and put them on either side of his glasses and pre break the glasses we did it in one take when he goes like this, two prop guys pulled the glasses off the glasses go apart he's already got the blood on his nose and he does that and sells it. it's all done in one shot. no cgi. it made us laugh outloud and it worked. little sound effects and work. >> it's that how shatner did his famous thing in star trek. he can't do this in in real life so they had two string full pulling his fingers apart. >> as a father now i'm curious do you find yourself choosing and looking at roles differently. >> do you want to direct movies directly now they have two films. >> think about it my kids are four and a half mousled they're not really watching anything yet except, me making like fart noises. >> i would pay to see

i remember vividly watching seeing it every morning when i was preparing for my talk show and watching these people screaming out for help, you know, watching the residents of flint saying, help us. this is the dirty water we -- woo bathing in, we're drinking. and they're telling us there's nothing wrong with this water. and we know there's something wrong with this water. we're getting sick, you know, the kids are affected. people are having miscarriages. there are lesions on people's skin. rashes. you know, and they're saying there's nothing wrong with this water when they know there is. that was what was painful about it to watch the fumbling governments handling of the situation rather than just acknowledging it, dealing with it. they pretended like there was no problem with it and these women from this community in flint made enough noise that they were finally able to get some national attention with this and something was eventually done. this water was proven to be poisonous and it was

and i felt for them because they also said, hey, well, you know, maybe if we were from a more affluent community this would have been taken care of already but because we're not, you know, we're sort of being ignored, and that can happen. it does happen. so it's really a powerful story that follows these women and my characters life as well in the story and the life of her daughter and how this water affected their family. but it's a very powerful story that i think people will, n they need to see, and will enjoy just watching but it also brings attention to what's still going on in flint in the fact that our pipes all across this country still have -- we still have led pipes all over the place that we need to deal with. >> right. >> this has not gone away. >> is that what you hope people take away when they see this or what do you hope is the take away when people watch this movie? >> well, one, i hope people feel empowered, you know to, realize that, you know, just a group of womenro

together brought this problem to national attention. to the point where a state of emergency was declared. that just shows you that the power -- the power of citizens in their own communities and how them becoming evolved and active can make big difference especially these days when we feel so powerless against everything that's happening in our country, you know, we can still make a difference. also, that this is an on-going problem. i know there's a premier tonight is a reminder to our government and reminder to all the citizens of the united states to know that we still have these issues in different towns all over the place, and it's something that needs to be addressed. this is our water. water is live. you know, we can't go a week without water. >> right. >> you can you know so imagine being poisoned bye-bye your water for ms. at a time. this is something we knee to deal with. but i hope people continue also to support the city of flint
