29-year-old suspect. >> this was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror. >> reporter: new york city mayor bill deblasio condemning tuesday's fatal attack. multiple people are dead and plenty more are injured after a man rent add home depot truck just an hour before plowing into bicyclists. >> i seen the city bikes mangel in the bike path and i see two gentlemen. they're -- they weren't with us no more. he ran them over. >> reporter: 29-year-old sayfullo saipov was shot by police when he got out waved around pellet guns and shouted allah akbar. officers finding a note in the truck saying the attack was carried out in the name of isis. saipov came to the u.s. leg legy from uzbekistan in 2010. mayor deblasio acknowledge the attacks proximity to the world trade center, something many new yorkers likely thought of when they heard about a terror incident in lower manhattan. >> we have been tested befor

a city very near the site of today's tragedy, and new yorkers do not give in in the face of these kinds of actions. >> reporter: saipov is recovering in the hospital after being shot in the abdomen by an nypd officer. meanwhile, the fbi is in new jersey looking at the home depot where he rented this truck as well as an apartment building that has ties to the suspect. in new york, bryan llenas, fox news. >> so many questions surrounding this. president trump of course responding via twitter yesterday and again this morning saying "we must not allow isis to return or enter our country after defeating them in the middle east and elsewhere. enough. "he called for stepped up vetting at the borders. yesterday' as tack happened in new york, we've seen similar types all across the world. so the question this morning is, is there any way to protect these kinds of so-call soft targets? fox5's melanie alnwick is standing by life at the national mall finding out what d.c. o

the city safe. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning, guys. as soon as the word of that attack circulated yesterday, dc police put out a statement saying that they were in touch with federal authorities and asking people the same thing we've ever heard and over again if you see something, say something. but certainly it does bring up questions because here in d.c. we know, we are target there's a lot of places where high pedestrian traffic, bicyclists, this exact same situation that they saw in new york. so we want to get right to d.c. police chief peter newsham. so what can we do here? what have you guys been doing? >> you said it exactly right. to see something, say something. i think this reemphasizes with everybody that this type of thing can happen right here in the united states. we've seen the vehicle ramming occur in other parts of the world. now it's happened here at home in new york city. so, you know, we get -- we have grown accustomed to being comfortable in our lives the best way that law enforcement can inter dick these types of

something suspicious could be a family member, it could be a friend, if you see unusual behavior or unusual activities, let law enforcement know. that's really our best tool for stopping this type of thing. >> reporter: one of things i remember seeing right during the inauguration i know right before the inauguration we had those attacks in paris and we also had the one in germany at the christmas market, and then at the inauguration, it was unusual but i understood it we saw all the heavy construction equipment, the dumpsters, that's one tactic you can use. >> yeah, we don't talk specifics about our tactics for preventing that type of thing. whenever we have large gatherings here in the city, we take a number of measures to try and prevent that type of thing from occurring. but i can't underestimate how value it is for us for people to pay the tension. if you see something that's just untoward or something that's unusual, a neighbor whose acting suspiciously, it could even be a family member act suspiciously let us know.

something happens. >> reporter: is there anything that people can look for, i think one of the things that's so disturbing about these sorts of truck attacks is, i mean f you're the person walking down the street you can't really see the guy in the truck. is there any sort of tip off or signal or something that as a pedestrian or a bicyclist we could do? >> well, i don't think you really are going to be able to spot it just by looking at trucks out there on the street. that's kind of unrealistic. i think what's more realistic you see the behavior of somebody. somebody who is saying things or who is writing things, you know, or doing conversations they're mentioning things where they have an issue with the united states or something that's terrorist related, i mean, we have to be really kind of sensitive to those types of statements and don't pass it that's just that guy acting in that particular way. we got to pass it off to law enforcement so we can take look at it. >> reporter: it sounds like the goal you really want to try to stop these people before they even get behind the wheel? >> absolutely. you know, law enforcement in this country particularlyn

proposals to get virginia growing again. >> real clear politic average recent polls in this race has northam leading by three-point 3%. the campaign is featured some big names with former president obama campaigning for northam. and the democrat candidate trying to tie gillespie to the president. >> unfortunately, my opponent ed gillespie is cut from the same cloth that donald trump is. he's nothing more than a washington lobbyist. >> on the other side vice-president mike pence has been in virginia campaigning for the republican. >> ed gillespie is pro jobs. he's pro growth. he's pro american energy. he's pro life. he's pro second amendment. >> president trump expressed support on twitter writing, ed gillespie will turn the really bad virginia economy numbers around. and fast. strong on crime. he might even save our great statues heritage but experts know gillespie is walking a fine line. >> challenge for gillespie i

from being killed? of course they were kept in the house for very long time. one in particular haunts a part-time housekeeper for the savopoulos family. what if she had not missed a call that came from her employer? >> on may 13th, 2015, the night the should have plus family was first held hostage, savvas makes phone call to nellie guiterrez in the late evening. nellie is the made who is still alive and spoke to us in earlier episodes. savvas tells her not to come to work the next day. >> hey nellie it's savvas. she's in bed sick tonight and she was sick this afternoon and vera offered to stay and help her out because, you know, we're going through some stuff with philip so she's going to stay the night here, okay? oh, and would you tend me a text when you get the message so i can make sure. thanks nellie good night. >> nellie never listens to that message not only the following day around 11am and by that time it was too late.

joins us now with more it's interesting when i -- it's creepy to listen to that now knowing what happened later to hear savvas' voice. it's interesting we have the opportunity to hear that that message was saved. but listening to to try to find clues for me as an outsider here it doesn't sound like his voice is wavering much. it doesn't sound like there's anything that might be suspicious. but you said the housekeeper it did raise suspicion. >> yeah i agree with you. when you hear that you don't hear somebody under distress. but nellie heard that and felt like that was very odd for savvas. that he -- that he did not sound like his normal self. but, of course, you know the -- this episode was particularly hard because there were so many opportunities that they were so close to notifying someone. you know, they order a pizza. the pizza person comes to the house but with odd instructions. the made that was killed her husband comes and knocks on the door that morning. he's so

and then of course nellie. >> he was told to go away. >> he was shoed away with a text message, and, um, you know, nellie of course with this message and she had gone out with girlfriends the night that they were being held hostage. she doesn't even listen and by the time she listens, you know, we know they're fate, and so, um, there's lot of opportunity or you hear those opportunities. what we think of course i say this in the podcast it's really naive for any of us to make any assumptions because you never know what you'll be like in situation like that, and that's where the fbi expert gary nuesner comes on the show and he's a former fbi hostage negotiate work on the waco, texas, siege, and so he kind of talks about behavior in really distressed moments like this. but there's also for him some very hazy, hot and humid things. one of them is being held in your home for 19 hours. he says that's very very strange in the united states. most of the time robbers weren't to come when you're not there. they don't want all the issue that is come with

people, you know, hostage. so there's a lot more questions but i think you begin to get a little bit more psychology in this of what could have taken place. >> we'll hear from him, right. >> let's take listen to gary right now. >> i'm not familiar with the scenario like that where someone texts somebody at the company and says give this big amount of money to someone i'm sending over to pick it up. i mean that would raise a lot of questions. well, why in the middle of the night are you asking for this sum of money? what has this got to do with business and you would think it would typically trigger a person who's being asked to get the money from the company, it would trigger some sort of reaction where they notify the police or the authorities. it's just, um, i'm not saying it didn't happen that way, but it strikes me as being unusual, and would raise some, you know, questions in my mind. >> gary's comments raise more questions in my mine as to what type of business relationship did savvas have with his employees? you

grace. now it is based on the real life story of grace marks an irish immigrant accused of double murder of her employer and whether she should be pardoned due to insanity. now, this is set in canada in the 1840s. we have to go back way back for this one based on a 1996 novel. she also wrote the basis for the other streaming hit the handmade's tail. she's done very well on hulu. kevin had chance to sit down with the stars of new series and joins us live with more. >> i spoke to sarah gad den who plays the lead character in the show. grace marks. sixth episode series on netflix. obviously netflix is crushing it stranger things season two. minder hunter. this will premier on friday i spoke with her anna pack win. there is a specific element to her character that's part of the mystery. and there's an idea that maybe her character grace marks character may have not committed these murder that is she's been imprisoned for. she can't remember. that's kind of

of the show. you mentioned margaret at wood who wrote the books for handmade's tail. now you're dealing with this particular series and i spoke to both of them about the show. specifically sayre rah gad den's act zen it's very irish i want the to know do you stay in that accent throughout production and also this is pretty dark material as you mentioned when you go home at night and dealing with these brutal murder scenes that happened in the show, is it hard to kind of go home and just be yourself. watch this. >> i'm curious bout accent. do you stay in it through production? >> no. i don't. >> how does that work? i can't imagine like -- >> i mean i don't but then it's weird. we wrap and months later i go to say a word and it's super irish. lines. >> she's he she has struggles and she's in a very dire situation herself. there's nothing inherently dark about her existence. right. just what happens to her. >> yes. she is -- she ends up in trouble as you would say. as they would say. but ultimately she is only exists in the memory of another character and there are some very kind of light and beautiful moments. this is -- this one had to like carry off very heavy very weighty dramatic sort of continuity of thing. i'm figment of possibly just her imagination. >> anna's character you know her from true blood and x-men. her character murdered and the lady sitting next to her is imprisoned for that particular murder but it might not have happened the way it happened. >> we don't know if it happen. >> she doesn't remember it happening but she's in in prison for 15 years. anna's charact
