for help. >> it's 911, hello. >> yeah, um, i'm at work and somebody just came and started shooting. >> reporter: initially there seemed to be a bit of confusion one caller asking for help thinking her co-workers had passed out. >> why did they pass out. >> we don't know why they passed out. >> okay. >> yes, so, send lots of ambulances because we have -- how many people? 10. >> reporter: another caller is standing behind a trash dumpster and sees bodies on the ground. the 911 operator urges him and others to wait for police before checking on the victims. >> can you see anything from where you are? >> uh, i saw a bunch of guys ato stop and check on them. >> stay safely outside. okay? we have the police en route. >> okay. >> okay. i don't want anybody to go in that building until we know if it is safe to do so. >> reporter:

outside the advanced granite solutions there were several signs of the tragedy. at one area, a small memorial. on a nearby window, two poster boards honoring the victims. >> it was clear the employees there were still upset. the owner declined to speak to us today and asked to us give them a bit of space and so we did. police have charged radee prince with several counts of murder and attempted murder. sarah. >> thank you, matt. developing tonight one person is in custody following a double homicide this morning in frederick. deputies were called to aca cia court. they found a man and a woman in the road with serious injuries. a car with blood on it was found nearby. both victims died at the scene. police were able to arrest a suspect not far from where the victims were found. we spoke to a neighbor about what happened. >> well, being here for the last five years it's pretty quiet neighborhood, not a lot goin

but to wake up with something like this is really devastating to have kids in middle school and for them to see that first thing in the morning, it's real scary. >> investigators believe the victims and the suspect knew each other. >> fox5 is in fairfax county where a suspected human trafficker is behind bars. 22-year-old jaron murphy is accused of holding three human trafficking victims against their will. detectives rescued the group from a hotel over the weekend. they were tipped off to the location at a town place suites on brandon avenue. murphy is facing sex trafficking and abduction charges. >> run, run, run. >> the campaign of virginia governor ralph northam is doing damage control. at issue is this controversial ad you saw first here on fox5. it shows a pickup truck speeding down the road chasing down minority children with a

bumper sticker for republican candidate ed gillespie. >> the ad was produced by a group called latino victory. while the northam campaign denied involvement with the commercial and claimed no knowledge of it fox5 shows a group linking northam with the campaign. >> reporter: the northam campaign has been loud in denouncing this ad and saying that they had nothing to do with it. but it turns out now a political watchdog group has uncovered finance records filed with the virginia election board that shows a financial connection between the northam campaign and the latino victory fund. now, here it is. this is the filing that was made on the virginia site. it lists northam for governor latino victory fund for media in the amount of $62,000. now, why is this important? well, phil kerpin who runs the american commitment program which uncovered this says it raises a lot of

about whether or not the northam campaign has been fully at risk to talk about what they know about this ad. he says this is indication that there is a financial link between the latino victory fund and the northam campaign. >> it's pretty remarkable. at the same time ralph northam was going on tv saying i would never have something to do with it his campaign was filing a official legal document with the state board of elections indicating that the ad constituted an in kind contribution. it was a coordinated communication, it was not an independent expenditure. >> reporter: now, we should tell that you fox5 again reached out to the northam campaign about this. now, they wouldn't make ralph northam or anybody else in the campaign available to us today to talk about this. they did respond to some questions from e-mail today. they said they did not authorize this ad. they say they did not see it before it went

however, what about these filings? well, the campaign explains that groups which work in kind with the campaign for things like door to door canvassing or data, have to make these kinds of filings. however, you talk to the group of american commitment that first uncovered this and they'll say that explanation just doesn't hold water. the reasoning is right there on the filing. it says media. it does not say data or canvassing. >> i mean i think it shows a remarkable level of mendacity. he wanted an over the top attack on his opponent and wanted to be able to deny it after the fact. >> reporter: fox5 spoke with ed gillespie about this ad this week. he said it was despicable and makes his supporters look like murderers and rapists. ralph northam will be here in northern virginia tonight. he's got a schedule

get them its pretty jaw dropping change in temperature in the last 24 hours, anywhere from 8 degrees warmer to 20 and even 23 degrees warmer. hey, no wonder we get flu shots this time of year right with temperatures doing this. more warm stuff to come though. wanted you to see down to the south where our winds are coming raleigh 76, richmond 73. we'll keep the warmth going through friday as zell. well. warm day ahead and not much in the way of shower activity although i will say this. while we have clear skies now and we're going to stay mild, there is if you look way up here a frontal boundary that will approach tomorrow. that may have a couple of very light spotty showers tomorrow afternoon as it gets closer but we'll still be warm. we'll likely be warmer tomorrow than we were today. so, for this evening, if you're dining out, why not, 72 degrees at 7 o'clock. by the time we get to 9 o'clock, 68 and by 11 o'clock, at 66 we're still well above our average high for

overnight it will be on the mild side. we're only going to drop to about 60 here in the district. considering we've had many frosty nights already in our suburbs north and west that's going feel pretty nice. it will drop to about 57 as you get out towards dulles sterling and reston area. 56 for martinsburg, winchester 56 and down towards fredericksburg 58 with gaithersburg at 57 degrees. a very mild night means a warm start for the kids tomorrow morning at the bus stop as well. friday will feel a lot more like early if not mid september. really nice weather ahead. so, you can see that before school we're thinking temperatures will range from 57 to 63 on your t.g.i.f. after school 74, 78 degrees, maybe a little bit more cloud cover. only the spottiest chance for a shower. that goes for friday night football as well. looking great for our friday but changes ahead for the weekend. we can't keep this going into saturday. we'll have that outlook coming up a little bit later. sarah and jim. >> coming up after the break

e-mail and insist all donations will be used towards the cost of renaming j.e.b. stuart high school to justice high school. >> as soon as we cast the vote to change the name, we allocated taxpayer funds whether we get any incoming from the public or not. >> reporter: board member elizabeth schultz says the $8,000 raised so far is a far cry from the million dollars it could cost to complete the name change, not including hidden costs. >> like buy and support the boosters with uniforms and spirit wear and just all of the ancillary costs that i think just are very, very difficult to estimate. so, the question is where is julian's half million check, julian's moore, where is bruce cohen's money? where is the hollywood money that we said we were told was coming forward? and i don't -- i don't see it. maybe it will come. you know, i guess i have the highest hopes that we'll get every single dollar because that takes the burden off the individual fairfax county

>> i think we'll see much more. right -- the folks who had put out the petition that was a nationwide petition with about 40,000 names on it they have just recently pushed out a message to those 40,000 people asking them to make, you know, even just small donationsism the district's online plea to the public reminds potential donors their contribution is tax deductible. >> should the board have allocated funds for this before moving so aggressively with the name change? >> we called on the superintendent to bring us back an implementation plan by december 14th. he and staff are working on a plan. >> reporter: and board member sandy evans hayes her way she says the a class of 2018 will be the last class graduating under the j.e.b. stuart high school name but if she doesn't have her way the district has at least until the 2019-2020 school year to implement the plan. last we checked it was a little bit more

recently and they've called police over concerns. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. >> d.c. police are looking for this suspect in a daytime robbery. victim in the case was walking along the 1200 block of ninth street northwest yesterday. the suspect approached demanded her purse. she resisted but then she dropped her cell phone. the suspect picked it up. >> a man is facing new charges after ramming a police vehicle during a traffic stop. lamont potter jr. was a passenger in a truck pulled over in princess ann maryland. the driver tried to manure the truck around several police cars before backing into one. smith got out of the truck before potter hit the gas deliberately ramming another police vehicles as he took off from the scene. >> fox5 is in the district. five guns two ballistic vests recovered during a traffic stop even picture of a guns in a bag. >> like us you might have thought bad guys up to no

fox5's paul wagner joins us live tonight from d.c. superior court with the rest of this story. pretty bizarre, paul. >> reporter: yeah, jim and sarah, that tweet really caught our eye. it's not every day that you find a cache of weapons in the city and the d.c. police had even put a picture of it on their tweet. so, we were suspicious. we wanted to know what this was all about, what was this man up to? was he about to rob a bank? was he going to hit an armored car? do the police have some evidence against this man that he was up to no good? well, here's the rest of the story. the court affidavit filed in the case lists a small armory of weapons to include handguns magazines, speed loader, ammunition a scope locks and a holster. there were also two bulletproof vests. but the document also showed the guns appeared to be legally owned. there were receipts for the weapons and they were disassembled. here is the photo that police pu

tweet. george thompson told us when he walked out of court he made some mistakes. he had bad tags on the car. he was driving and admits he shouldn't have been in the district of columbia. he agreed to talk to us and here's part of the story. but that is your bag with the guns. >> that's my property yes. >> reporter: they were all disassembled. >> they're not firearms. i would assume they're firearm parts. >> reporter: you gave police the permission to search the car. >> they didn't even find them. i showed them. i said this -- they asked me because i have a card, a hql like a hand card and they asked me if i had any firearms and i was forthcoming and i told them what i had in the car. >> reporter: now, thompson also told us he's out of a job, he's homeless, he had all of his belongings in the car. he admits he made a mistake, he shouldn't have been in the district of columbia, bad tags on the car but he said he had the vests because he's working security or has worked

security. and as far as the tweet, we did speak with the d.c. police spokesman and asked them about that tweet and asked them if they thought it really matched what actually happened. they are standing by that tweet. they're saying the man was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and that is what mr. thompson is charged with today, but he walked out of court today. he's hoping for some mercy from the judge. we're live outside d.c. superior court, paul wagner, fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> to new york city federal terrorism chance have been filed against the terrorist who mowed down people killing eight people and injuring several others. 29-year-old sayfullo saipov was consumed with hate and felt good about the rampage. he reportedly told investigators he was inspired by isis videos. authorities say it was no coincidence that saipov carried out his terrorist attack on halloween because he was expecting those streets to be packed in manhattan. if convicted he could face the death penalty and president trump continues t

the specifics that we have from republicans now that they have unveiled this plan. now, you probably heard there are fewer tax brackets. those are going down 0 percent will stay that exist now but then there will be 12 percent, 25 percent, 35 percent and those millionaires will stick with that that same tax bracket of 39.6 percent. a big one republicans has pushed for is to eliminate the alternative minimum tax. that would affect about 4.5 million people. doubling that standard deduction for middle class families and final that mortgage interest deduction, this is a controversial one, it would take it down from a million dollars to $500,000. so, what does this all mean for you? we've asked this question a few times before. when you hear these tax plans, do you think they're going to change your life? let's get the pulse of the people like we like to do here on fox5? what's your name, sir. >> i'm jeff. >> reporter: jeff, okay, now you gave me an honest answer

>> one of president trump's former top aides was back in court today. paul manafort and his associate rick gates faced a judge for the second time this week. both appeared for status hearing and they are the first to be charged in special counsel robert mueller's russia investigation. both manafort and gates pled not guilty to conspiracy and money laundering charges and are currently under house arrest. >> coming up new video shows authorities arresting the suspect in a deadly shooting that happened last night at a wal-mart. >> how officials were able to track down the suspect but first brody. >> sarah, year after year the last few seasons, the nats have been after one pursuit. but the problem is the last few years they've fallen short of that pursuit, fallen short of a ring but they think they have hired the man that can finally get them over the hump to a world series. we'll introduce you to the newest nats manager,av

first to break the news. if you've been down to the navy yard the last few years it's in a constant state of reconstruction. tearing down old buildings, building up new buildings and that's kind of the same story for their neighbor, right here at nationals park with the nats. they're now going on their sixth manager, if you include interims since 2011. it seems that any manager gets a maximum of two years and then you're out of the building. now, dave martinez, he's coming in with no managerial experience. he's been a bench coach with the rays and with the cubs and he's been basically the right hand man to joe madden. joe madden has a bit of that magic. he took the rays to a world series a team that was building, small market type of team. then he went to chicago and broke the 108 year streak winning a world series. dave martinez says he's done everything a manager needs to do. don't need to worry about him as a first time manager except for he says dealing with the media. that's the one area where he

we talked to him today about those expectations. this team has won two straight division titles and now he's coming in as a first time manager, what does he think about exceeding those expectations? >> with the past manager here over 90 wins last to years. and then that's not good enough. what are your expectations and what are the expectations that have been put forth for you by the organization? >> well, you know, i said -- i said it time and time again today, my message is clear. you know, to play the last game of the world series and win it. i mean, that's why we're all here. we grind every day, you know, to get to that point, so why not us? we're good enough. so, why not be us? >> reporter: and you mentioned a world series. a championship in this town. there have been collective about 70 seasons between the caps, between the nationals, the redskins and the wizards, it's not just the pressure of

sports town. without getting past the first round of the playoffs. so, what do you think of that pressure? now, you're coming from chicago where they -- yeah, they had a little bit of a drought. so, what do you think of the pressure of being in a sports town that has gone through this and to say, please just get us further in the playoffs, get some wins, get some hopefully some rings? >> for me it's really no pressure. it's just, you know, going out there and doing what we do best, you know, they won 90 plus games because they're good so why not win game 163, 164, 165 and so forth until we get that last win of the world series. that's the way i look at it. you know, you don't permit the pressure to exceed the pleasures in this game and we're going to go out there and have fun and win a lot of games. >> reporter: now, if there was a buzz word, a word that kept coming up today during the presser between mike rizzo and between

tomorrow. high temperatures in the upper 70's. i bet we'll be seeing an 80-degree or two around the area this time tomorrow. i just have a feeling out ahead of a front it's going to be nice and warm. a shower is possible late day with this front that's coming through tomorrow but it's just a sprinkle. it's nothing major. the weekend however is going to start very different than the weather that we're having today, kind of dreary cloudy and cool with drizzle. sunday shows improvement and we also fall back sunday night so that extra hour of sleep but then sunset by sunday afternoon only going to be at about 5:00 p.m. speaking of the leaves mostly high color especially north and west of 95. moderate south and east including here in washington but this weekend and even into early next week i think will be the best for color before we start to see those leaves just fall off. temperatures right now take a look at this. we've come down from earlier high temperatures in the mid 70's but it's 71 in washington, 75 in manassas, 75 in culpeper. it's beautiful. satellite and radar just showing a few clouds drifting north and west of us. not really anything to speak of along this front. it is going to come through mostly dry as it approaches tomorrow but we could see a shower

p.between2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. mostly sunny with a few more clouds as that front approaches temperatures well into the 70's. here's that front by tomorrow morning you're seeing showers up in extreme western maryland central pennsylvania fizzles as it crosses the mountains. there's our rogue shower about 4 o'clock. just a sprinkle. then that front sinks southward and it looks like we see initial clearing friday night before the clouds roll back in on saturday. so here's your forecast. 60 degrees, that's really mild if you consider we started the week with temperatures in the morning in the 30's and 40's. 78 degrees for that high temperature tomorrow. it is beautiful sunny and warm with just an isolated afternoon shower. and changes for the weekend. clouds and drizzle on saturday, 59 degrees. so, our temperatures are barely going to move as we're entrenched with cold air damning right up against the mountains. 70 degrees with some afternoon sun on sunday so we do see that improvement. seven-day forecast, certainly on the rollercoaster through the weekend and into early

hospital andrea grinage parks has been able to communicate with detectives and according to court documents, she told them there was another man in her apartment back on september 8th who helped her boyfriend set her on fire. we learned today police have now identified that man as 27-year-old jonathan miller and he is facing several charges including attempted first degree murder and conspiracy to murder. i spoke with andrea's mother this afternoon and learned thankfully her baby who was delivered via emergency c-section when she arrived at the hospital has been home for the past three weeks. her name is aliyah but they're calling her journey and she's apparently doing very well. now, andrea grinage parks who has two older children was eight months pregnant when she ran from her apartment on fire seeking help from neighbors. she was able to tell them and first responders that her boyfriend had poured gasoline on her in the bathtub and set her on fire. she was concerned he may go after her mother next

was quickly arrested. he's being held without bond on charges of first and second degree murder arson and other related charges. now, andrea grinage parks remains in the hospital tonight. according to a go fund me page set up by her family she was critically burned over 90 percent of her body and lost everything in her apartment in that fire. in the news room, lauren demarco, fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> new video shows police arresting a suspect in a deadly shooting at that wal-mart in colorado. an anonymous tip as you hear what happened here, an anonymous tip helped police find 47-year-old steve ostrom this morning. he was arrested 14 hours after the shooting following a brief car chase. he opened fire at random. two men who were shot died at the scene while a woman later died at the hospital. the motive for this shooting is still unclear. >> a college student in connecticut is facing hate crime charges after she admitted to smearing bodily fluids on her black

children running, children upset a pickup truck screaming down the street way confederate flag behind it with a ed gillespie bumper sticker on the back. now when we asked the northam campaign about this tuesday they said clearly they didn't know about the ad, they did not support the message in that ad. however, it was revealed today through finance reports filed with the state of virginia that there is a financial link between the group that actually created that ad, the latino victory fund, and the ralph northam campaign. this is it here. this was filed in virginia for the latino victory fund, this is called an in kind contribution listed as media in the amount of $62,000. now, the political watchdog group that located all of this is called american commitment and they say this in their viewpoint links a direct financial line from this group to the northam
