>> plus, new fallout from the allegations leveled against hillary clinton and the democratic national committee. the news at 10:00 starts right now. >> ♪ >> but we begin tonight with breaking news out of montgomery county. >> there are reports of possible gunfire along interstate 270 near shady grove road. that shattered the windows of several windows. fox5's evan lambert is live at the scene with the details. >> reporter: sarah we're at a business part that abuts this part of the highway on 270 northbound. this is just north of shady grove road and you can see behind me that maryland state police are on scene right now conducting their investigation into these possible shots fired that shattered windows of four cars, maryland state police tell us. they say that they are still working to determine if this in fact was gunfire but they do know and as you can see from video that we shot just moments a,

at least four cars were shattered completely. you see in one shot an suv window completely missing. there are several other cars that investigators have been taking stock of, looking at the damage. they say four drivers reported that they were driving along pretty slowly actually because there was a car accident in this area around 8 o'clock when they reported that their windows were shattered mainly on the driver's side but again, right now luckily police telling us maryland state police telling us that there are no injuries as a result of this. they are searching this area, they say, to try to confirm and see if there is gunfire and someone in the area that's causing that but at this time we don't have any information about any and possible suspects or anything like that. maryland state police telling us that right now they have no leads. they have not found any shell casings at this time so right now we do know that something has caused these

that were traveling northbound on i-270 just north of shady grove road. as you can see traffic still moving in this direction and never impacted traffic. these cars off on the shoulder. of course we'll stay out here and we'll bring you the very latest in this newscast and again at 11:00. live in montgomery county, evan lambert fox5 local news. >> and now to the story that dominated the local headlines today. the robbery chase and deadly crash on the beltway that jammed up the evening rushton night. the crash happened after police say a robbery suspect lost control of the getaway car. fox5's cori coffin as the details on how it played out. >> reporter: yeah, it was a chaotic scene earlier today. chances are you saw something like this on your evening commute on a friday, everybody trying to rush home for their weekends. it can be tough enough to get home. this crash here had traffic snarled for hours. eventually authorities were able to get the left two lanes

by. to give you some perspective this is where the crash happened along the beltway near route one. it all started all the way over here at a check cashing business in wheaton. here's what he know so far. employees of the check cashing store say four to six people with guns and wearing masks rushed the store. montgomery county police spotted the van believed to have been used in that robbery and a chase ensued. that chase crossed into prince george's county on the beltway. skyfox flying above the scene during that time investigators say they may have hit another car or had some kind of mechanical issue and pulled over. one person inside jumped out and was hit by an unmarked police vehicle involved in the pursuit. we know one person died, four other people inside the van were arrested and police recovered several weapons including this gun. take a look all right screen here. montgomery county police tweeting this picture out saying this was recovered from the driver's seat

suspect van. authorities think these suspects could be tied to two other robberies in september. take a look at this map that we've created for you. these two items here are from the events today. taking a look at the yellow items, they could be tied to a robbery of a gas station and a food truck, both in silver spring. police even released this surveillance video here last month from that gas station robbery where you see those four suspects armed and wearing masks enter the facility and leave quickly with a bag. now, tonight we're working on getting the names and the charges for those arrested. meanwhile some good news for drivers. all the traffic on the beltway back to normal tonight. sarah. >> good news there, thanks, cori. a fox5 update now. a tractor-trailer driver is facing involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving charges following a multi-vehicle crash in fredericksburg. investigators say james lee crashed into several cars at a stop light yesterday afternoon along plank

54-year-old sherri laney died at the scene. the tractor-trailer driver also is in the hospital. >> arlington police are looking for the man who raped a woman near the busy shirlington area. the woman was attacked as she was putting items into her car last night. this happened just before 11:00 at the corner of 31st and south randolph streets. when police responded they used k-9 units and a helicopter in their search but the rapist got away. news of the attack has people in the area on edge. >> i think it's horrible. i mean, this isn't a dark alley way. this is right in the middle of shirlington. it's scary that you don't have to be hiding on a dark pathway for this kind of thing to happen in the middle of the night. >> there's a surveillance camera in the area. right now it's unclear if it captured the attack. if you have any information about this you're asked to call police. a loudoun county public schoolteacher facing charges tonight

accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an under aged student. he's a teacher at potomac falls high school. the sheriff's office says the charges stem from two incidents back in july at the victim's home and in a park. we're told investigators found out about the allegations this week and arrested him today. he's being held without bond. >> ♪ >> after a fox5 investigation revealed widespread allegations of grade fixing in prince george's county schools, a state sanctioned audit of the scandal is count it says potentially hundreds of students graduated who were not eligible to graduate. tonight we're asking about the questions, the audit didn't answer. prince george's county schools ceo dr. kevin maxwell said the audit did not find system wide intimidation or fraud when it comes to grade changing. this all started after several whistle blowers risked their jobs to come forward with the allegations and here are some of the major questions raised by dr. maxwell's statement about int

according to two school board members the audit conducted by an independent firm did not look for intent in its analysis so skeptic argue how the school district can say for certain there was no fraud or intimidation found. >> i have never done that. i've said all along i've never done that. my team has never done that and this report says that we've never done it because a grade is changed doesn't mean it was wrong, illegal. there are lots of legitimate reasons why those happen. >> what i heard today was a ceo and a board chair celebrating the fact that they were not directly tied but that we still graduated hundreds, if not over a thousand students in the past year alone who did not meet the state graduation requirements. >> the maryland governor's office released this statement on your screen here on that investigation saying "based on an initial review of the investigative report governor hogan is extremely troubled by its finding. it clearly indicates that the prince george's county school system is failing to properly

and is actively betraying the community's trust willfully compromising students for success. every maryland student deserves a first class education and the hogan administration will continue to demand that they receive one ." >> new fallout from the bombshell allegations leveled against hillary clinton and the democratic national committee by the committee's former interim chair donna brazil. in history forthcoming memoir brazil alleges that a secret signed document transferred control of the dnc to the clinton campaign in august 2015 in exchange for mrs. clinton's work to help retire the dnc's 15 billion-dollar bank debt. today some prominent democrats in congress positioned themselves as the party's true champions of transparent seen campaign finance reform. >> ♪ president trump and the first lady are going across the pacific to begin

they made a brief stop in hawaii tonight. they will then head to tokyo. that will be followed by stops in south korea, china and vietnam and the philippines. this is the president's longest overseas trip to date. it comes as tensions continue to escalate with north korea. >> president trump is weighing in on the judge's decision not to sentence bowe bergdahl to prison for leaving his post in afghanistan. instead a military judge sentenced bergdahl to a dishonorable discharge and reduced his rank from sergeant to private. bergdahl pled guilty to desertion and misbehavior charges for deserting his post while serving in afghanistan. he was captured by the taliban and released in 2014 when then president obama authorized a swap in exchange for bergdahl's safe return. in response to the judge's ruling here's what president trump tweeted

meanwhile the investigation continues tonight in the shutdown of president trump's twitter account for 11 minutes starting at 7:00 p.m. yesterday millions of the president's followers at real donald trump saw a message stating the account was taken down. twitter says it now has implemented safeguards to prevent this from happening again. company and officials say an employee on their last day intentionally deactivated the account. so far twitter has not identified who that former employee is. >> we turn to fairfax county now and a problem front and center for many virginia voters heading into election day in the hot race for governor. authorities believe there may be more ms-13 gang members in the county than police officers. even so, the county insists they're ahead of the problem. there are roughly 1400 police officers in fairfax county while there are reports estimating ms-13's membership at 2,000 in the county. gang prevention coordinators in the county are

helping kids who are in gangs get out and with preventing them from joining the gangs in the first place. >> if the opportunity became available to us that we could td risk workers -- workers to work with at risk kids, we would certainly welcome that and welcome that opportunity. there's certainly things we could do with funding whether that's increase the amount of counselors that work with at risk kids or just in general be able to boost and improve our prevention intervention programs. >> the initiative is just one part of a multi-strategy plan to curb ms-13's influence in fairfax county and across northern virginia. >> up next, did nfl owners gang up against colin kaepernick by refusing to hire him. >> what team owners are asked to do. plus lauren demarco is out on the town tonight. >> reporter: after hours d.c. is booming but that

>> welcome back. we have a fox5 follow-up tonight on the eviction of a d.c. tax service business that led to thousands of personal tax records being left out on the curb. now d.c. congresswoman eleanor holmes norton is taking action. today she sent a letter about the incident at speedy tax service to the u.s. marshall for d.c. superior court and a d.c. superior court judge. the letter requests that they re-examine their eviction policies to ensure that sensitive information is protected. >> here in the district there could soon be a new job opening. how would you like to be in charge of the cy'

is live in petworth community to explain. lauren, i'll assume this doesn't mean like you're a party planner or anything like this. what exactly is going on here? >> reporter: yeah, not exactly. but sarah think about it, we've got the brand new district wharf, we've got the 14th street corridor here in the petworth neighborhood alone in the two and a half past years there have been seven new restaurants that opened, three more are on the way. and the people who live around here they welcome the business, they welcome the change but it does bring up some concerns. so, the idea of a night life czar or night life mayor is catching on. >> i think that's a great idea. people are going out, people are having a few beers at the bars, the lights are on, so it's a more festive noise. i don't think people are totally used to that. >> safety obviously a huge concern. you know, some of these neighborhoods are kind of new to people. i know this neighborhood is new to me when i got in so even, you know, somebody tha

know if it's one overall nightmare or something like that or somebody kind of by neighborhood or however they want to section it off. >> reporter: well, right now there is a proposal for one person whose actual title would be the director of the office on night life and then a night life commission that would consist of a five member panel. the director would be available after hours so bars and restaurants would have a point of contact during peak operating times. this person would be able to deal with issues and be able to make policy recommendations to city officials. council member brandon todd introduced the legislation and said he would like to see a director in place by next summer. we spoke to him and business advocate mark lee who thinks that this could be a huge help for new businesses trying to navigate the red tape and open up in d.c. >> like seven to 10 months and nearly $100,000 to get a license in this town and that

really is keeping small new innovative entrepreneurs from making these sorts of contributions to our neighborhoods so we need to look at how we make it easier to open. >> that one person in our government that business owners can go to for guidance but also that communities can go to for guidance. i get calls about traffic, about noise, about hours of establishment. this person would be boots on the ground, if you will. >> reporter: there is a hearing on the legislation set for next wednesday and they have these sort of positions in other cities around the world new york london amsterdam. council member todd is going to pittsburgh to talk to their nighttime economic coordinator to see how that works. sarah, not exactly a party planner but i have to say, the term night life mayor really would have a nice ring to it. >> i think so. there might be some people that would be lining up for that job for sure. lauren, thank you so much. >> reporter: possibly in

our -- >> yes. tony, over to you. >> thank you very much. trending right now, the ongoing controversy over former nfl quarterback colin kaepernick. several media outlets are reporting tonight that multiple nfl owners will be deposed in relation to kaepernick's collusion case. those team owners will also be asked to turn over cell phone records and e-mails related to the case. kaepernick filed a grievance under the collective bargaining agreement claiming that the nfl and team owners colluded to keep him out of the nfl in retaliation for his protest against racial inequality and social& injustice. >> ♪ let's get a look now at what's happening with the weather conditions around the area. gwen i stepped out a short time ago. it was still nice out. >> yeah, it hasn't been bad. i mean, temperature-wise we're really still very mild tony. we've been keeping our eyes to the skies, however. right now we've got some clouds that have rolled in a little bit

tonight had a sprinkle here and there, not too much to be concerned with but we're not out of the clear just yet. let's take a look at our maps and we'll show you what's happening. cloudy skies in the nation's capitol right now. it's 67 degrees. winds are pushing in from the north and that's the big factor, that wind shift. we had a southerly flow but now the winds have made a bit of a shift and pushing in some cooler air and we're going to feel the effects of that as we head into the next 24 hours or so. satellite and radar composite showing you the clouds and some of the rain that has moved through. some light showers that have headed to the south but we'll see some of that continuing once we get into tomorrow as well. temperatures right now, 67 in the nation's capitol, 64 at baltimore. the double six's at annapolis. 62 at dulles this hour. 64 culpeper and 69 at fredericksburg. so, we've got some cooler air out to the west that is heading our way so expect to see a big drop in our temperatures. we enjoyed the warm conditions today but and tomorrow a different story. tonight a cool chilly

investigating this. they say at least four cars reported around 8 o'clock that their windshields -- their windows, rather, were shattered while driving along 270 northbound near shady grove road. at this point, it was reported that it was possibly gunfire. maryland state police telling us that they have not found any shell casings but they are searching this area to see if there is somebody in the area that potentially was shooting at several cars. right thousand they are working to confirm that. there are no injuries reported and traffic is moving smoothly. >> also a robbery chase and deadly crash on the beltway led to a long backup during the evening rushton night. >> cori coffin is in the news room breaking this one down. >> reporter: all lanes of the beltway inner loop back opened after a armed robbery led to that police chase and crash. this happened right around route one in prince george's county. it started though in montgomery county at a check cashing store in wheaton. authorities say four to six

bus at the time. >> new york city police say a rape allegation made against movie mogul harvey weinstein is credible and they are gathered evidence to seek an arrest warrants. investigators say they haver viewed actress paz de la huerta. she has publically accused weinstein of raping her twice in her apartment back in 20 tenement detectives say they corroborated parts of her story. >> what makes her story so credible. >> the ability to articulate each and every movement of the crime, where she was, where they met, where this happened and what he did. as to others i'm not going close the door and say others won't come forward. >> police say if weinstein was in new york now and the assault allegation was that recent, they'd make an arrest but since weinstein is in another state and the allegations are years old, they have to gather evidence first. >> meantime producers are reportedly exploring options to get house of cards back on track in the wake of sex assault allegations against star kevin

talk spacey's character could get killed off and the final season would focus on his wife, claire. production on season six was suspended after accusations spacey sexually assaulted anthony rapp when rapp was just 14 years old. >> lawyers for drug lord el chapo say his mental condition is deteriorating in prison. he's suffering from hallucination depression and paranoia. the mexican drug lord has been locked up in new york's metropolitan correctional center since january. defense attorneys say they have also noticed el chapo to remember times people and places. they claim that if his mental state continues to decline he could be found incompetent to stand trial. prosecutors haven't commented on the allegations. >> well, the rogue twitter employee who deactivated the president's twitter account could face hacking charges. twitter says it was an employee on their last day that took

we had some clouds and some of you a few sprinkles that you had to deal with here and there but overall, not too bad at all. but we're still keeping an eye on a frontal system that's making the change in our temperatures once again through the next 24 hours or so. so, the winds will pick up a bit and now they're coming in from a different direction so that is cooling us down. a little bit dreary and drizzly on saturday yes. talking about some fog and some drizzle the very light in nature but we could see showers picking up a little bit later in the day. sunday same story but not quite as let's say rain filled so to speak. it will be much more widely scattered with some light drizzle and shower chances continue into the week. so, in the meantime here's what we're talking about right now. a lot of this mainly to the south of us because we've had a little bit that's already moved through across the i-95 corridor but the clouds and the drizzle and the fog still definitely a.m. factor as we get into the early hours of tomorrow. 67 degrees right now in d.c. 64 in baltimore. dulles at 62 this hour. a little cooler to the west, 57 at martinsburg and hagerstown and 52 degrees at

so, the winds have been moving in from the north-north west. that's bringing us a really cool influx of air. pretty good indication right here as you can see this dividing line between where we are now in the 60's and to the west of us into the 40's and that's the cooler air that's heading our way. cold front moves through stalling to the south, stationary frontal system will move to the north as a warm front but in the meantime we're still going to get that onshore flow and still going to deal with a bit of wet weather. so, not a washout totally but i just want to make you aware of it and once we get into sunday, we see a difference in our temperatures because the winds shift from the south. we're going to go right back to the 70's all over again but in the meantime futurecast showing you once we get into tomorrow here's that rain coming through in the evening hours expect it if you're heading out grab an umbrella. lingers around through the early morning hours of sunday then it becomes a bit scattered and by sunday afternoon things clear out. lows overnight tonight into the 40's and low 50's and by midday tomorrow we're talking 59 degrees. we could see a sprine

>> oftentimes he's the only african-american male and i see parents of younger children and they're like we love watching your son. he's going to be something some day. >> some day changa might be a limb pick gold medalist on the trampoline but he almost never made it past 2015. >> doing something on the trampoline and he got lost landed heals first and his chin hit himself in the knee. >> he broke his jaw both top and bottom. he had a huge 3-inch gap right here at the bottom of his chin. he lost four teeth, they just shattered. >> he wasn't too worried about the injury. he was worried about going to nationals. >> he did compete at nationals just a week after the injury and he didn't just compete, he still got second place. >> knowing like how good i am i think that i can be even better and better so i would have to keep working and even if i fall down, i just have to get back up

>> a little slow. >> changa keeps getting back work and keeps working over 16 hours a week on top of maintaining all a's. basketball's in school because he has a goal, a goal that he his coaches and his entire family are working to achieve. >> to go to the olympics and to win the world championships in november. >> sounds like the dreams of a can hide whose head is in the clouds but that's the thing. the canopy is just about the only thing that can limit his leaps but nothing and i mean nothing can limit this kid's ability to achieve those dreams. >> he has no ceiling. the sky is the limit for this kid. he's going to be great. >> he's 13. he can get into the olympics at 16, that's his goal, 2020, he's turning 16 so, hey, it looks like we're heading in the right direction. >> you look at him to think about all the hard work and effort and energy and time
