continuing to be vetted and thoroughly investigated. >> and that is our top story tonight. and breaking details about the deadly church shooting in texas. >> shooting was apparently motivated by what is described as gunman tense relationship with mother-in-law. >> in aftermath there's still heavy police presence by the scene. fbi and local law enforce respecttogether investigating the shooter's past and they wanted to understand why this happened in summer land sp springs, texas. >> korey cough man with more on details. >> they do not believe that horrific act was racially or religiously motivated but they exactly have yet to pinpoint whether that motivation was related to his mother-in-law. authorities would not reveal what those threatening text messages continued but they said kelly had a history of domestic violence and knew his mother in law went to that church. she was not when he walked in with a ballistic investigate and tactical gear and killed 26 peopl

18-month-old. who was. there johnny longdorf a local resident across the street he armed himself and fended kelley off by shooting at him and he dropped the assault rifle and fled in his car. >> this texas hero flagged down another young man and jumped in his vehicle and they pursue the suspect. >> kelley called his father before shooting and killing himself with another handgun he had in his vehicle. kelly had three guns in his vehicle. he was court marshalled in 2 2012 for assaulting wife and child and spent a year in military present and 2014 received a bad conduct discharge he would not be able to carry if dishonorably discharged. >> in this specific investigation we're early in the investigation and we do not have all the documentation yet so until we can get all the documentation

single room of the church. with steps on what to do in case of active shooter. lockdown or maybe even severe weather. there are security cameras throughout the property inside and outside the building and many of the doors here require a key card to get in. take a look. this is reverend steven holly who says they implemented safety measures many years ago actually. they started doing it after sandy hook mass shooting and now have the technology to monitor who comes in and out of this church property which also i should say include a school. like many other churches, this works closely with the local police department on developing a thorough safety and security plan that the staff practices on a regular basis, reverend holly encourages all churches to have a similar plan in place and be aware of what in their own congregation can help. take a listen. and since 911 law enforcement carry 24/7 and we know who they are in the

and so, like we don't broadcast who they are to rest of church and so, they are ready to assist. and so we hope they never are called upon to. but, we feel protected. >> we have a security team and safety and security team. but we're -- our people are instructed to listen to them and follow their instructions. certainly, if a horrific event take place then it's to protect themselves as quickly as they possibly can, get down, get low, get safe and you know we try to -- we can't practice that on sunday morning in church but our team is practices and go through the various scenarios and so they're ready to address any situation. >> a lot of our churches reach out to us and we reach out to them when we have certain crime that happen we reach out to churches today, actually, and a few yesterday after the event that occurred

>> reporter: we learned in the last few minutes that act actually, only one shot was fired by a montgomery county police officer identified earlier today as todd archer. now i'm in a very busy parking lot here right next to the korean corner here. over my left shoulder is mcdonald's. across the street we're at the intersection of v is eersville road and randolph road. there were a lot of people in the area last night when this incident began. now, this was captured on camera. let's hear now from captain paul of the montgomery country police. >> yes, he was wearing a body cam and that video is still being reviewed. >> he tushd it on? >> yes, before he got out of the vehicle. >> okay. >> is he in his cruise area loan? >> yes, he was. >> reporter: montgomery country police say the call for help came from the 29-year-old drive o

camary who told the 911 call tear a man he did not know was using his cadillac escalade toy repeatedly ram his car. exactly what happened next is unclear and under investigation. what commands was the driver given by the officer? was the 52-year-old driver of suv ramming camary when officer fired? questions still unanswered. police say the man was shot in upper torso and life saving first aid was given immediately. it's unclear what led up to the incident. although police say it does not appear to be road rage. >> our internal affairs division is conducting administrative investigation to determine ft. officer complied with departmental directives, rules, policy, and training. our major crimes division is investigating the shooting itself to help determine if the actions were within the law. when they're completed with their investigatio

submit their findings to the howard county state attorney. >> reporter: that's an aagreement the two country have come up with that police shootings will be gone over and investigated by the office and county. howard would look at montgomery and if howard had a shooting montgomery would take a lock at howard county shooting. the driver of that suv who was shot has not been identified, because police say no charges have been filed. the driver of the camary, who was being rammed. was not injured. we're live in montgomery county, paul wagner, "fox5 local news". we have new details tonight in it left traffic backed up for miles. we know the name of robbery suspect killed in the crash. montgomery county police say these five men held up a ch check-cashing business in wheaton friday afternoon and then led officers on a chase in inner loop.

it goes back and forth between democrats and republicans in statewide races. typically turnout is key in virginia. we learned some surprising news about what the vote is already saying here in fairfax county. apparently they're already setting records for in-person absent tee voting listen to what we heard today. >> we finished saturday, last day for absent tee voting almost 0,000 voters voting absent tee in person. total in 2013 was under 30 30,000. we saw more people vote in person than we did entirety of absent tee voters four years ago. >> reporter: that is significant number. we'll find out tomorrow exactly how that vote falls into play when the results started coming in tomorrow evening. what we know now ed gillespie will end campaign in fairfax county tonht

calling intentional hit-and-run in edgewater. 18-year-old nicholas hoffman hit a 16-year-old boy walking fairhill and london town road friday. the victim went to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. hoffman is facing charges with attempted homicide and first degree assault. >> the man charged in mansion murders appeared in court for the status hearing today. defense attorneys for darin wint said they were not ready to proceed because they hired a new attorney that needs to get up to speed on the case. wints is charged with killing three members of sopopolis family and he set the mansion on fire in 2015. his next hearing is set for january.
