several days. the good news the rain we had yesterday picked up about an inch the rainfall from yesterday is out of here but the clouds and cool temperatures and even the breezes out of the north here to stay. chilly pattern we're locked in it for the next several days. that includes this afternoon. 43 now in washington. temperature not budging it's gone up 1 degree in the past four hours. so we're just not going to see a lot of movement. in fact daytime highs only in the upper 40 today's and that's with mostly cloudy conditions and again breezes going to give us wind chills in the low pert four he is this afternoon making plans to get out and about later today make sure you bring a jacket. you'll want it. feel very chilly later this afternoon. 37 winchester. 41 in leonardtown. 44 in annapolis. there's your satellite/radar. generally cloudy conditions for us. we are getting clear off to the north and west and i think the best chance for any substantial sunshine will be north and west today. although we may get some peaks or periods of some sun as we get into the afternoon hours. so it will be an improve many over yesterday. and as we get into the end of the week we'll get more sunshine

building in but still general cloudy with day times highs in the upper 40s might be left over drizzle best chance for that will be central have a is lower eastern shore southern maryland later today. all right. seven day coming up we'll talk weekend skins, vikings game this weekend look at that weather forecast as welch guys, back to you. >> sounds good, thanks tucker. the big story at 9:00 o'clock today democrats celebrating this morning. fresh off some big wins last nigt. the hotly couldn't testified raffle forgo virginia governor goes to ralph northam. he beat gillespie by 9%. this is a river rum didn't on the trump administration some say. while others say virginia is just continuing its path toward being a full-time blue state. our melanie alnwick is in the newsroom this following the numbers for us. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning, guys. so as far as the governor's office virginia didn't change political parties there. but we did see big changes in mitt cal parties when it came to the house races. but really the map here shows you what is going on in virginia and what has been going on in virginia. ed gillespie took

but it's these areas here in northern virginia that really traditionally have gone for democrats and continue to pull them forward fairfax county alone 254,000 votes, 66% for ralph northam and that is the difference maker there. prince william county 60%. and loudoun county as well 60%. that is the way we've seen things going across the state and those big margins could mean big changes in virginia politic. now ralph northam himself he ran on a campaign of more school funding, tighter gun restrictions and support for abortion rights. he's often said his prior career as a doctor and pediatrician shapes his views on policy. now there was a brief moment of chaos last night as northam was giving his victory speech at george mason university. you can see right here security coming up, and they are about to take him off the stage briefly. they did this because of some aggressive protesters out there in the audience. those protesters were he is cored out.

said that voters sent a message to washington that the country doesn't condone divisive pol politic. >> we live in a very diverse society. it is getting more diverse every day. it is that diverse society that makes this country great! [ cheers and applause ] >> as long as i'm governor, i will make sure that we're inclusive. that we welcome people to the commonwealth of virginia. >> reporter: chal help injury ed gillespie was gracious in defeat former republican national committee chairman tried a tactic of distancing him forty seven is president trump while still embracing trump like policies. but just didn't work with enough virginia voters. the president certainly thought his presence would have made a difference. tweeting from south korea that ed gillespie work hard but did not embrace me or what i stand for. we talk little bit about those house races and this is really important. democrats picked up 16 seats in the house basically erasing a repu

been held there for many, many years and that is going to give the governor elect northam quite some leverage look here at the states -- the seats that flipped from republican to democrat. all there ten of them in northern virginia alone. and one issue they'll take up is congressional redistricting. this can make a difference also when it comes to the next congressional elections and possibly make it easier for more virginia democrats to go ahead and get elected to congress. one other thing interesting about the strong hold of northern virginia here. i don't know if you guys saw it but jerry fall well, jr. tweeted out last night in response to the wins there perhaps once again northern virginia should remove itself from the state saying that if you left the rest of it then virginia could govern itself the way virginians wish the. back to you guys. >> thank you, mel. 9:07 is the time. governor' race wasn't the only big one we've been following. for lieutenant governors? fir fairfax repeated republican jill vogel. democrat mark

second term defeating republican john adams. >> one of the those democratic wins in the state house is a history making victory. voters in prince william county and manassas park elected danica roem to the 13th district seat. making her the first openly trance jenn person to be seated in a the state legislature. fox5's bob barnard is live at manassas. bob, just talked to danica and she had quite a lot to say. >> reporter: yeah, i'll tell was, maureen, she says she leapt about 45 minutes last night. she's been on her cell phone owl morning long. speaking to lot of people. went door to door knocked on thousands of doors, gave out her cell phone to as many of her constituents as she could. and it paid off. it was a nine-point victory for danica roem. 33-year-old newspaper journalist from this area. who de defeate bob marshall whoe been on our news over the years served 26 years in the virginia general assembly. representing district 13 here in the manassas, manassas park, prince william county area. he's

bathroom bill that was going to force trance jenn people to use the public restrooms associated with their birth gender, not the gender they identify with which of course failed. one of the things that inspired danica roem to run. she's a first time time politician who began her transitioning about four years ago. and says she wanted to inspire young people, young transgender people that you can do anything. the sky is the limit. but one of the big campaign issues for miss row many was the traffic on route 28. we were that this morning, and live at 7:00 o'clock this morning some commuters telling us it take them two hours to get from this area to their jobs in tysons corner and in the district and that the traffic there is just a nightmare and something needs to be done and that's what danica says she will do when she gets to richmond. hear part of our

the delegate elect that we did just about half hour ago. >> very very specific about the issues i was running on. my qualifications, being a reporter myself, you know, i work for the gainsville times here for nine years, two months and two weeks. i was news editor with montgomery county sentinel over in maryland, and so, you know, local journalism is where i learned public policy, and i'm going to bring a reporter sensibilities to richmond here. so that we can actually accomplish the things i'm is hing out to do without hyperbole without discrimination and basically who making sure we create a more inclusive commonwealth. >> there she is. the first openly transgender candidate to win a state legislative election in our country. here in northern virginia, guys, a his historic election in virginia yesterday. >> bob, you know what i loved about your interview no matter what you asked her, she never ever

transgender or anything. >> no. >> just stuck to the issues want you like, look, people voted for me based on the issues because they want to actually see things done, and i just -- already had respect for her but respected her so much more in just the interview that you did with her. >> reporter: well, i appreciate that. she spoke about her, you know, personal history, her story during the campaign in her campaign advertising. she spoke about it, but says the reason she ran, the reason she wants to go to richmond the reason she's going to represent district 13 in the maryland -- in the virginia general assembly is because of the traffic on route 28. she says she wanted to something about it. i will tell you we talk to a guy who says he's been sitting in it for years. politicians have been talking about it for years doing something about the traffic in this part of northern virginia. he has his fingers crossed, has his doubts but danica roem says she'll do something about it. >> okay. we'll is to watch and see. bob barnard thank you for that. toss it over to steve now with the m

>> we mentioned that race being a first in the country talk about the national briefing when it comes to politics first up it is one year today since the president's stunning victory over hillary clinton in the 2016 election. he is celebrating that one year anniversary of winning election in asia on his 12-day tour. president told reporters he considered having a big celebration party but white house officials say there are no plans to formally mark the occasion. while in south korea he expressed that his victory made lot of people very happy. speaking of that trip to asia the president now on the next leg arriving in beijing overnight the president agreeing brief truce with china to cooperate over north korea so the leaders of the countries can focus on trade. last week the president said the us trade deficit with china is so bad it's embarrassing. before heading to china the president addressed south korea's national assembly and took a hard line on north korea saying the world cannot tolerate the menace of a rogue regime that threatens nuclear act. he said "do not underestimate us and do not try us". >> holly?

>> including the long criminal record of his brother durell. >> you probably remember durell. he's darrin' younger half brother and he was also with darrin the night that darrin was apprehended. we were told that durell had an attempted murder charge against him in baltimore in 2010. and that turned out to be true. durell was charged with attempted murder but cut a deal and plead guilty to assault in the first degree. after durell spends time in jail, he gets out only to violate his probation not once but twice. and then continues in and out of court until he's sentenced again about two years later for an additional 18 months. >> p

live with us now more on episode six which i listen to already and i like this one even though it didn't necessarily provide any close shower because it can't. it's an active case but it did come um with a good, um, things to think about as the case proceeds forward. it kind of -- you kind of get game plans here. >> you do. because we talked to two top d.c. attorneys. one bernie grim who's a criminal defense attorney we also talked to rosco howard who was former top dc prosecutor and they sort of go back and forth on what the prosecution is going to need in this case to make it a homerun to get a guilty verdict against darrin wait a minute and vise versa. what would they need to have darrin wint found not guilty and there's so many elements to t this, and one of them being witnesses. of course, witnesses are so important to this case. so far there aren't witnesses that saw darrin there that we know of aside from things like dna and pizza crust. >> i loved both of the atto attorneys. >> yeah. >> i googled them i wanted to

what they looked like. and so the one thing that i learned about the process was from rosco howard who was like you don't have to have a motive which blew my mine. >> i know. >> right. >> you really don't have to defend your client. you only have to disprove the prosecution or make people doubt what the prosecution is claiming. >> yeah. >> that was fascinating to me. >> so fascinating. i think they both really break down the process and it's so much different than what you hear or see on tv. >> right. >> right. >> and actually in rosco howard, we'll throw to his clip right now. he tax about the dna on the pizza crust how that is going to play the witness in this case so take a listen. >> the prosecution is going ask the jury to do is draw reasonable assumptions. very reasonable assumptions. someone is at home. other than the victims that don't want them there. that's the assumption. and no, the pizza was not delivered to the house but the question really isn't where the pizza was delivered. >> okay. >> i can see defense attorney will make that argument is becaus

what you have. he doesn't want to be identified. we know that because he killed all the victims even the child. and so when i say you need witnesses to the trial, you got a pizza bock. you got a piece of pizza with the dna that's your witness. >> i mean there's just -- there's going to be so many things when this trial comes up in september 2018 and so many different ways this could go. so much i think we don't know we'll find out. rosco howard talks about how the prosecution doesn't have to reveal all their cards they probably haven't. and then -- >> bernie grim makes good points, too. i can see how he's a really great defense attorney. if i get in trouble i might want him on my side. >> you would. he's one of the best. >> so what was also really revealing was you actually went to court this week. >> we did. >> and so darrin wept is on his fourth attorney. >> fourth attorney which isn't all that surprising on the public defender side. arthur aggo was representing him he's assigned to judy pipe. that was fairly routine. th

but the other interesting part that was strange from our point of view is the podcast did come up and the prosecution was discussing at one point in jo joking manner they'd loved to jury selection now so they can tell the jurors to stop listening to podcasts and then they basically were sort of telling the defense, you know, you shall listen. so it was -- how did you feel when you came up in court? >> slightly nerve racking. nerve racking because, um, i think you see what, upping, journalism does. the impact that it really plays, and i think there's lot of questions in this case and certainly from my perspective they're obviously concerned the podcast is on their radar when it comes to this case. >> well, it has been amazing you've done such an amazing job the whole crew did and putting it together it should be on your radar and now you can listen to all of it just download all of us and listen to them back to back to back. do you have to wait any more. go to i tunes or podcast app on your iphone search the mansion murder and subscribe. you can also see extra behind

major leagues killed in fall plain crash near his home in florida. former phillies and blue jay pitcher died when his private plane crashed just off the coast into the gulf of mexico. halladay was the only one on board. his body later found in shallow water near the crash scene. he received his pilot's license after has retirement four years ago. couldn't wait to retire from baseball so he can fly. wanted to keep playing obviously but as soon as he was done he never got a chance to fly when he was a player. so something he wanted to do when he retire. tweeted pictures just last month of his brand new i couldn't a5 main and how excited he was to have this plane. it's a two seat sport aircraft it can land on water in addition to land. hal way was among the first to fly it only about 20 of them in existence although he has had other planes from the same company in the past. this was just the newer model halladay tweeted about it saying the aircraft felt like flying a fighter jet over the water. the ntsb now on the scene investigate wagon went wrong it turns out his wife brandy didn't even want him to buy the plane and now deleted youtube video posted by icon aircraft in october

we've got real dancers. fred astair dance studio in reston coaching gala called dances with service this weekend, and these are all participants and we've got the organizer of the event great event dancing with the services susan a nass month. >> hi, thank you for having me. >> you can tell me about it. we've got people involved in services here that will be contestants and dancers and dance instructors tell me about the event. >> could couple years ago we were involved with similar event. dancing with the stars d.c. and ever since then i've always wanted to put on another event. and so i decided to get all of the services involved. so instead of having stars our stars are the men and women in uniform. >> all the money from the even goes to different branches of service. tell us about some of the recipients. >> there's three charities involved. pink fund which is breast cancer charity. and the fop and, um, the unity tour which i'm

holly. good morning, everybody. that's right. we're talking about 58,318 names that will be read out here at the vietnam veterans memorial. they start at 5:00 o'clock this morning and it goes until midnight they started yesterday and so this will continue leading up to veterans day and right now behind me you can see the names are being called. we're i think it's been about nearly six hours now that this has been going on, and this happens every five years. the first one was in 1982 when the memorial was first built and you know the dedicated truly come out here the rain, shine, or cold. more than willing to stand out here to read each name and all of them say it's very important to do this. of course, i want bring in tim taits director of the out roach for the vietnam veterans memorial fun along with some volunteers here. we've got steve and art. the you'll join us as well. so good morning to all of you. i have been hanging out with them all morning long. i feel like i've made really live long friends out here. some

tim, let's start with you. let's get out the information that we need to. we've got a lot of volunteers out here. is it too late pour anyone to come out and be part of this? >> no absolutely not. we can come out and witness this there's set chairs set up and come just listen. but if you come we're always looking to grab some people out of the audience to help them read some names because believe it or not sometimes people forget, and when they forget we'd love to have other people here driven here to read the names for glaus over 5 million people come and visit the memorial each year. so truly one of the more popular memorials. why is it so important to continue that dialogue and conversation of connecting the past with our future generations? >> i think we -- of those 5.4 million members who come to the wall, half of them weren't alive in 1982 when we bill the wall. >> right. >> they can't identify. they look at people like these gentlemen and say this is vietnam veteran they don't realize they had skinny ties and girlfriends and fast cars and really that is the legacy they have and we canel

>> good morning to you, charles. we'll start off with the mariah carey story. her security company essentially trying to sue her for pretty brutal things she apparently said allegedly. >> yeah. guys, this is about two thing. it's about money first of for most but also in the lawsuit that has been prepared has not been filed yet but the lawsuit that was prepared also makes claims of sexual harassment. so michael an nel low is guy who ran security for mariah. his company ran security for her and he says that during the time -- excuse me, during the two years that they were working with mariah she ran up a bill of about 200 -- just over $200,000 that she did not bay. so that's the first thing that they want. in the lawsuit, they also mention making allegation that mariah would perform, works do sexual acts so that in places that she could be seen by

so kia is with project give back of northern virginia, and you do something amazing. you feed families not just for thanksgiving day, but for like two weeks with the work that you guy do's through the help of volunteers. tell us about it. >> sure. so project give back is an organization and what we do is, we assemble and deliver boxes to low income families in the dmv area, and it's enough food to feed a family of four for about two week in the box. >> kia, brag on it. what's in the box? this is not just like, you know, two slices of turkey and cranberries. >> no, no, allison way more than that. i mean it is everything for complete thanksgiving day meal. it is your turkey, it's your core their hen, your fish, your mama's greens, it's your apple pie from your grandmother. it is everything the stuff, the mashed poe pay toes, you name it it's in the box. the vegetables, the fruits, everything, for family to enjoy great thanksgiving day meal. >> why do this? why are you paying it forward this way. >> everybody deserves to have a great thanksgiving day meal. thanksgiving is

out. >> you want to see feed families much the box costs $70 per family so you're trying to feed how many, 500? >> we are trying to feed 500 families this year. we started this about eight years ago, and we started off with just 25 families so this we're we're trying get to 500 families provided we can get enough donations in, and so that we can feed these families. i mean no one should without it at any given time of the year but particularly thanksgiving is that special time it's the beginning of the season and we just -- we're trying to do our part. >> so that's why we're here today. we really, you know, we wanted to highlight the good work you're doing. but we also want to appeal to everybody out there, because the organization needs drivers, needs volunteers. you can get your community service hours if you're a student. if you come out and help pack boxes, right? what else can people in the community do, what are you asking for? >> we are asking for donations. we desperately need donations so that we can make sure we reach our goal this year. we're doing a clothing drive if you have clothes or household goods that you want to come by and drop off we'll take those off your hands as

for thanksgiving and leftovers. >> let's talk about this macro roni and cheese first it looks so good that's my favorite with little brown on top. >> little carmelization this is a black skillet baked gouda mac and cheese. cheese is what makes macks an lot of people get caught up seven cheese macks. >> you don't need to be overwhelming with cheese. >> do receiptly great grade and quality of cheese. and incorporate it into your mack. definitely want to great. you know what you're getting in the block of cheese. and so this one in particular we started with the sauce which is a whitebass basic sauce that you start with butter and flour, r rue. we incorporate milk into it heavy cream. and then we incorporated our cheese and our pasta, of course, a little eggs to give us a little consistency and some -- >> ly who it together. >> you got it. you're a chef. you got it. >> macaroni and cheese is one of might have fate rin old school green bean casserole with the campbell's creamy mushroom. >> got to do that. there's no way around that. there's no way around that. >> i want
