bit of an earlier start us a continue this later morning commute. back togois. >> ♪ more breaking news this time out of northwest where dc police are still looking for the gunman who shot and killed a man overnight. it happened along georgia avenue around midnight. another man was shot nearby at ninth and kennedy streets, and parts of that road have been shut down ever since. investigators say they found two hand guns at the scene. and now they're looking for hispanic man with tattoos on his face. in connection with the shooting. also, this morning, a retired navy veteran in custody in norfolk, virginia, charged with the kidnapping and murder of a maryland teenager ashanti billie was up to dead after vanishing from her have a have beach job two months ago. fbi constructioned this timeline around her disappearance. it is chilling. surveillance video shows at 4:48 on september 18th ashanti billie arrived to joint expeditionary base little creek in norfolk. at 5:33, about 45 minutes later, someone in light colored clothing was seen driving her car out of the

another 15 minutes later, at 5:44, residential surveillance video showed billie's car stop at a construction dumpster in norfolk where her cell phone was later found. then we fast forward to september 23rd. billie's car found parked in norfolk inside that car her work shirt and pants with dirt and debris. the police say is consistent with being removed while outside on the ground. witnesses were called seeing a car fitting that description parked in various charlotte north carolina neighborhoods where her body was found september29th. this morning ashanti billie's family is on their way to norfolk to learn more about the man charged in her murder and fox5's matt act land who has led the way on the story and was first to speak with her family yesterday is also on his way to norfolk. matt joins us live from the road with more on what we can expect today because i know, matt right now this looks like just a kidnapping charge and we're all curious if that may escalate at some point today based on what we hear in court. >> reporter: yes, steve, you know, kidnapping charge from the federal authorities

late last night we heard from charlotte authorities and they have charged eric brown with murder and that is what we're hoping to learn a bit more about later today. if you remember that's where the body was found yesterday. we heard a lot from the justice department paying out the details you were able to lay out. we're heading down to norfolk today because the billie family brandy and tony billie who are ashanti's mom and dad are going down to meet with the fbi at around 10:00 o'clock this morning after that they plan to come out and tell us if they've learned any new details at all. they're very curious to talk to the fbi. the fbi did brief them before they released these details about an arrest yesterday to the media. also something interesting, steve, we also could see the family taking possession of ashanti's car they're going to br

area today. they've been waiting for the authorities to obviously go through and collect the evidence what they need to do with the car and then they were told to come down meet witness fbi today pick up ashanti's car and possibly some other belongings and bring it back here to the dc area. we're going to stay in contact with the charlotte authorities. it will be interesting to find out if they release any court documents to talk about the homicide itself one thing we haven't been able to get yet is the cause of death. remember the autopsy report has been held because of the investigation so we don't know if that will be released or still part of the prosecution here. but we're definitely trying to follow the situation in norfolk and in charlotte as well. >> a couple of things real quick, matt. first of all, just as a point of technicality, because charlotte's involvement in this case, would he potentially face these charges in north carolina or would they be able to hav

in virginia? >> reporter: that's a good question. this federal charge where he's current until norfolk being held by federal authorities that could get him up to live prison. i'm not sure how the judicial system would work whether or not they would taxi diet him to north carolina because this would appear if he's charged with murder that that would be a more serious crime. something that i wanted to ask authorities about today whether a judge would re-release him to go to charlotte or if he would stand on the kidnapping charge, the federal charge and then move to the local charge in north carolina but that's good question. something i hope to get answered for you today. >> matt, drive safe on your way down to norfolk in southeastern virginia i should say this morning. thanks, matt. matt has been talking with the family, the parents this entire time. they've been very strong don't let that fool you. they obviously want results. >> results and closure absolutely. >> exactly. >> all right.

it's sentencing day for the dc woman charged with throwing a cup urine at a metro bus driver. open pal brown plead guilty to misdemeanor assault and now there's a push to make this kind of assaults a much more serious crime. fox5's bob barnard is live at superior court with the details. good morning, bob. >> reporter: hey, wisdom, good morning to you. yes, we're expecting members of a2 local 689 the bus driver's union to be here at the courthouse. dc superior court and in the courtroom at 10:00 their this morning when open pal brown is sentenced. it's all about that shocking video that we've seen now since august. the date of this was august 26th this is an x2 bus that was near the intersection of benning road and minnesota avenue, and the lady you see there throwing the cup of urine has now plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault admitting that she urinated in the cup and through it at the bus driver apparently all the bus driver said was, have a nice day, and for

brown who is 38 years old through the cup of urine in the face of the bus driver. she did plead guilty. will be sentenced today. met crow bus drivers are coming here and they've made it clear for months now that they want crimes against them to be charged as felonies. now, it would take a change in district law. something the metro board chairman who is jack evans who happens to be a d.c. council member has actually proposed. it's a question of if you increase a penalty from a misdemeanor to a felony will it deter crime or will it happen any way. my view i think it could be deterrence if people realize their actions could land them in jail. consequently we feel this is important to protect our wor workers. >> the bus drivers are public servants and they do their job and if somebody attacks them, they should get, you know, some time, you know, especially if it's something like that. >> reporter: what did you think when you saw that individual joe? >> nasty

job. so you go in there and also i had communicated him -- with him, um, for months through letters and, um, so you go in, it's your job, and you just go in to observe what struck me when i went in there was how low key his demeanor was, and, you know, how he used all these words about how sorry he was and how he couldn't help himself and you start to listen to this sort of apologetic self-analytic conversation and then you realize but he's a psychopath. >> it's just unbelievable how much this captivated our attention then and really has stood the test of time but unfortunately from a shocking factor because i think this is one where people have been trying to figure out what has been going through this mind and i know you've had a chance to talk now with his parents for the first time into years. with other people for the first time in years. still as shocking the revelations that you're finding no

>> i think so. i think everybody wants an answer. everybody wants to know how this happened and everybody wants to be able to say i can spot that. i knew there was something wrong with that guy. but people didn't know there was something wrong with that guy and i think the shocking revelations are that there were more victims out there that we didn't know about. and i think also what's interesting is after having spoken to his parents, they just don't want to talk to other people right now and they haven't for years but how much they wanted to continue to have a loving relationship with him and even forgive him in the end. >> obviously look when you look at the people that he touched the most in a positive way his parents at the top they raised him. how is their life been over the last 25 years? have they been able to find any sense of normalcy whatsoever?

>> well, look, it's been pretty horrible for them. but this was his father and stepmother. what's interesting was when he was born, his mother wouldn't allow anyone to touch him except to change his diaper. or hold him for a photo. so that's pretty interesting. now, afterwards, his father and stepmother really didn't want to abandon him, and he didn't want to go to trial. they didn't want to go to trial. they wanted this sort of to end and they all decided if they were enter to trial somebody could analyze him. somebody could take a look at him and figure out what went wrong. in the end, they're very very religious people and they told themselves that the fact that he embraced god allowed them to forgive him an loud god to forgive him. i'm not sure that other people would be, um, as willing to

leaner and less processed and so many only shops out there these days. >> we took care of the chicken sausage. >> yes. >> made it healthier with chicken sausage here. >> yes. >> what are we doing about the white rice. >> we're led getting rid of the white weiss and substituting farrow. whole grain that has a chew to it a little bit more fun than brown rice. >> this is the farrow here. >> yes. >> and you can also use any whole grain you happen to have in your kitchen. as long as it's not white. >> speaking of this is my story with farrow i ended up long story but i ended up with farrow in my kitchen and it's been sitting there staring at me for the last month and i'm like i don't know what to do with this. i didn't know what it was. i had to look it up then i said what do i do with it what else -- can we substitute it for any rice grain. >> substitute it for pretty much use it in stir fry. it's great as fried rice it has gluten in it if you're gluten free sub a brown rice or quinoa for this. >> okay. >> but i always say preps grains the beginning of the week and

grains for it saves you some time. >> gotcha. this is 20 minutes from start to finish. >> super easy. sizzling we have chicken sauce sauce and onions and peppers we sliced up and dumped in there. >> once it starts cooking you add your peppers and onions. >> that could the no be easier. >> shall we finish this one off right now. >> let's finish that one off. >> in there a little or regular began know and crush red pepper. finish it with balsamic which is going give eight little bit of sweetness and a great tank. then we'll add this farrow in there, too at the end. >> dump the whole thing in there and mick it you. >> give that little stir. exactly. >> how long do we let that cook together. >> that all cooks together for two minutes these will take about eight to cook down and get really soft locate that. and then what happens is that you've got this dinner you garnish it with a little parsley and parm all of a sudden it looks very fancy. >> what we have here. presentation points as well. >> exactly. it's just such a simple thing and again instead of parsley you can use basil cilantro whatever you have in your fridge use a
