about democratic senator franken, al franken and whether or not democrats will now have to cut ties with one of their well known critics of the trump administration. leann tweeden's comments today were not only eye opening, it was the photographic evidence she produceed as well. take a look at this. this is a photograph that tweeden has released. it shows franken, during a uso trip placing his hands over the spokes model's breasts. she says she was asleep at the time. she had no knowledge that this photograph was being taken. in fact only discovered it later when she was going through a roll of pictures on that camera and discovered this photograph. tweeden talked about this today in a press conference in los angeles. >> he just put his hand on the back of my head and he mashed his face against -- it happened so fast. he just mashed his lips against my face and he stuck his tongue in my mouth so fast and all i can

his lips were really wet and it was slimy. in my mind i called him fish lips the rest of the trip because that's just what it reminded me of, i don't know why, and he stuck his tongue down my -- my mouth and i remember i pushed him off with my hands. >> reporter: these explosive allegations today have wronged capitol hill. franken himself has taken two tries now at trying to issue a statement on all of this. earlier in the day he said that that photograph was a joke, a not funny joke. later on in the day he revised that with a second statement going further saying that he was troubled by his own actions. democratic leaders from chuck schumer to fellow minnesotaian have repudiated franken's actions in this case. mitch mcconnell calling on the senate ethics committee to open up an investigation into all of this.

head by a teacher. fox5's matt ackland is live at the school. matt, this is getting a lot of attention out there tonight. >> reporter: yeah, jim, you are right. in fact chelsea clinton has tweeted a response to all of this. she said so sorry this has happened. let take you inside the live truck and show you this tweet. this is what came out yesterday from the student. so, my hijab was ripped off my hedda by a teacher. i appreciated and valid. i was in a middle -- in the middle of a conversation with my friend and he came from behind me and pulled it off. we spoke to numerous students after class today and they say everyone at the school is talking about this. some say they had heard that it may not have been an act of disrespect, instead, an accident by the teacher and they referred us to this tweet where another student inside that class basically said he

didn't mean to do it. here's what really happened. you were sitting in your sweatshirt hood on with your hijab under. the teacher came and jokingly took your hood off, not knowing the hijab would come off with it. we spoke to some students today. take a listen. >> some people say it was intentional and others are saying it was unintentional. >> reporter: the whole school is talking about this would you say. >> yes. i hear about it in the hallway. i've had multiple people come up and ask me if they know about it and know if he's getting fired or not. >> reporter: people are really upset about this. we talked to parent in a car who pulled up today and she had just received an e-mail from the principal and she said, listen, even if this was an accident, this teacher was putting his hands on the student. that should never happen. she had a lot of trouble with that issue altogether. we should tell daw we have tried to reach out to the viim

social media. we've reached out to them. we haven't heard back from them yet. we also talked to the council on american-islamic relations. they are asking for further punishment of the teacher and they also say that they have tried to reach out to the victim, trying to talk with her but so far, they have not been able to find her and talk to her about this. for now, live in fairfax, matt ackland fox5 local news. >> fairfax county public schools put out a statement saying the teacher's action was inappropriate and unacceptable going on to say they have apologized to the student and the teacher placed on leave. a crackdown on gang activity thanks to something called operation raging bull. >> it has led to more than 200 ms-13 arrests nationwide. the sting was a collaboration between immigration and customs enforcement and the department of justice. fox5's tisha lewis joins us from southwest d.c. with more on this story t

>> reporter: sara and jim. i can tell you that it all went down in terms of the announcement here at ice headquarters in southwest. ice's top boss reiterating combating ms-13 is a priority. now, today's announcement is the culmination of an 18 month long investigation that spanned over two different phases. >> this successful operation continues our efforts to attack ms-13 both domestically and abroad disrupting their financial networks. ms-13 terrorizes communities through violent crime and extortion in furtherance of its mission to rape control and kill. this is a great operation but we are not done and we will not be done until we totally dismantle this organization. >> reporter: now, the goal of operation raging bull was to disrupt the gang's global financial network. in baltimore four ms-13 members were arrested and di

violent crimes in aid of racketeering and also conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering. ms-13 as you know is described as one of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the country and our area is no exception. in september, ice announced the first phase of this operation raging bull which led to 53 arrests in el salvador. the second phase took place across the united states from october 8th through nove november 11th. >> of the 214 arrests made in the u.s., 93 were arrested on federal and or state criminal charges. the remaining 121 were arrested on administrative immigration violations. 16 of those arrested were u.s. citizens and 198 were foreign nationals. of which only five had legal status to be in the united

stat individuals are reportedly gang members get this if they admit to gang ties or gang affiliation so you can only guess how often that happens. it's sometimes hard to prove that the defendant is in fact a gang member. now, operation raging bull which culminated here today is the latest example of ice's plan to target gang violence and also ms-13 and their associates. tisha lewis, fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> new tonight the baltimore police department is mourning the loss of one of their own. detective sean suiter was shot in the head yesterday while on duty. he passed away this afternoon. police say suiter was conducting a follow-up investigation to a 2016 homicide when he was shot in west baltimore. the gunman has not been caught either. a $69,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest. detective suiter was an 18 year veteran of the force and leaves behind five children. coming can up after the break, new video of a suec

>> ♪ >> new tonight a federal judge in new jersey declared a mistrial today in the corruption case of senator robert menendez. >> the jurors say they were hopelessly deadlocked and unable to reach a verdict in the case. they were charged with running a bribery scheme between 2006 and 2013. the new jersey democrat was accused of providing melgen with favors in

it now looks a little bit of a color, darker color jacket. same individual. >> investigators believe this suspect may be the same man captured on camera in mid october after three people were gunned down in a two week period. a fourth person was shot and killed on tuesday in that same neighborhood. police believe the suspect may live in the area. to fairfax county now where police are hoping this newly released surveillance video of a jewelry store robbery will lead to arrests. it all happened friday afternoon at the bt jewelers on wilson boulevard in falls church. police say six people distracted the store owner while a seventh person crawled under a counter and stole jewelry and cash from a safe in the back room. a reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest. if you recognize anyone, please call police. >> from falls falls church to a california. one blasts the counter with pepper spray, another pulls out a

43 degrees. here in the district we're 56 and you're still holding onto that 60-degree reading in fredericksburg, so that's kind of nice to see. but as these wind gusts get lighter in the next few hours, temperatures are going to tumble pretty quickly. still getting a gust of 29 at dulles, 26 at reagan national, 28 at annapolis and sun is down now and in a little while these winds will subside. they're being created by the frontal boundary that came through last night with a little bit of light rain and a little bit of high pressure building in. a bit of a tight pressure gradient blowing those levers around. colder air blowing across the great lakes is depositing a bit of lake effect snow up through central pennsylvania, upstate new york, south of buffalo they're going to get a little snow out of the dear. our skies have cleared so keep an eye on the sky not just tonight but tomorrow night, too, because there is a meteor shower going on, the leonid meteor shower and i think the skies might be pretty good for catching a shooting star later on tonight or tomorrow since there's no moonlight. meanwhile, overnight

chilly side. let's just call it what it is, much colder than last night thankfully. we stayed well above freezing last night since we had some showers coming on through. tonight luckily dry skies because we're headed down to 31 martinsburg winchester, culpeper to the freezing mark, hagerstown about 29 and even frederick dropping to the freezing mark so a cold start on our friday but a sunny start. it looks like it will be a sunny cool day expect it to feel colder than today. winds will be much better, though. and enjoy it because it looks like saturday while we're mild again, we are going to see while the chilly air departing and a system starting to get closer, that's eventually going to bring some rain in our direction. friday looking good, plenty of sunshine temperatures in the upper 40's to low 50's to finish up this work week and the last weekend before the thanksgiving holiday rolls into town. we'll have much more on your seven-day forecast and in particular the timing for that saturday rain coming up with caitlin's seven day a little bit later. jim and sarah back to you. >> thank yo

>> ♪ >> this is fox5 local news at 5:00. >> the search is on tonight in prince george's county for the people inside of a car that opened fire on another car. this happened just after midnight on walker mill road and old walker mill road in upper marlboro. officers responded to reports of a shooting and while there they got report of another crash. that's where they found two men suffering from injuries related to the crash but then they found another car at that location belie

by the suspects. >> also in prince george's county firefighters will be out checking smoke alarms in temple hills after the fire claimed the lives of two people. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon at a house on lorraine drive. the victims are an elderly woman who was confined to a wheelchair and her son. neighbors tried to rescue them but the smoke and the flames were just too much. no word on if there was a smoke alarm in that house. the cause of the fire still under investigation. >> ♪ take you to charles county where it has been 37 years since the body of debra anne brooks was found stabbed to death along a dirt road. the 17-year-old had been reported missing after she didn't come home from a walk to nearby store. >> tonight her brother is asking for help in a case that went cold a long time ago. paul wagner is live at the scene of the crime. paul. >> reporter: well, jim and sarah, the last time anyone saw deborah anne brooks 17 years old was as she left for that store that you mentioned. she was heading to a nearby people it's drugstore. she was going to fill

prescription. but the only evidence that they had that she had met with foul play was the bag with the prescription inside and blood all over it. that bag was turned over to her brother who then had to show it to his mother. we talked to that brother, paul brooks, earlier today. >> i remember walking into the place where she worked and her looking at me with these sunken eyes saying did you find your sister? and i couldn't say anything. i just handed her the bag. and her heart -- i just saw her heart just sink and she fell to her knees and just started crying. >> reporter: paul brooks was just 16 years old when his sister debra was killed. the family learning just a few days later that her body was found lying face up along this dirt road under a pile of dry wall. she was not sexually assaulted and for years detectives have been trying to learn the motive.

people in recent years, friends, family, acquaintances, anyone who might have known someone who may have had it out for debra and knew not only the brookland neighborhood of northeast but the area along sharpersville road here in charles county. investigators say they have some dna but it is so far not led them to a suspect. >> a lot of times the suspects in these cases are found in the case file and that being said, we have a number of individuals that we're looking at since the case is 37 years old, a lot of individuals involved in this investigation are deceased, a lot of them have moved from the area and again, we're just asking the public's help that we can get that one missing piece of the puzzle that can help bring some justice to debbie's family. >> reporter: this is what's left of sharpersville road. it used to be a major thorofare here but it now is just covered with leaves and trees and the area where she was found dead was still about a quarter mile down

homeland security found nearly 70 percent of time undercover officers were able to get through t.s.a. checkpoints with mock knives, guns and explosives. under the criticism t.s.a. has spotted more guns and weapons than ever. yesterday t.s.a. officers arrested a 51-year-old southwest airlines pilot carrying a loaded 9-millimeter pistol in his carry on. the official says the pilot didn't have authorization to carry the gun. he was arrested. this is a discovery at dulles all right. t.s.a. agents finding weapons inside one traveler's carry on and at bwi a traveler was caught with this knife disguised as a hair brush. at.s.a. put out this photo showing how someone could turn a laptop in a bomb. what looks like cereal is dynamite. the silver item is the circuit. >> important supreme court case coming up next month that would decide

the u.s. today there was an event held on the hill about what legalized sports gambling could mean for sports in 2018. brody logan joining us now with more on the steps of the supreme court there, brody. >> reporter:. >> reporter: just short of the steps. we had to push off the steps a little bit here at the supreme court. so, let me go back to let you know where sports gambling is in america right now. currently four states, delaware oregon, montana and nevada have the option to have sports gambling but only the state of nevada has sports gambling. well, chris christie as governor of new jersey sued to have the ability for new jersey to have legal sports gambling and this has come all the way to the supreme court. actually there will be arguments heard right here on december 4th which could decide the fate of sports gambling in the united states. it's the case of christie versus the ncaa. obviously the ncaa does not want legalized sports gambling but if this gets passed it

new jersey. in fact, 14 states either are considering legislation or have already passed legislation including maryland to legalize sports gambling once this comes through. so, today at capitol hill, there was an event to inform congressmen and women about what the implications would be if this goes through. >> if new jersey were to prevail and the federal law banning state sponsored sports betting were to be overturned you're going to city a gold rush by as many as 15 to 20 states within several months of the decision being rendered and we could have expansive sports gam gambling across the country before the end of 2018. >> it's very difficult to estimate or characterize how much money is wagered in the u.s. because we have so much of it done in a black-market. the common estimate is $150 billion annually bet so depending on your tax rate and your revenue. i should mention 150 billion is the amount bet. only of that five to

everybody loses every bet obviously. there's a lot of taxable revenue out there that we could bring in under the light into a regulated environment. >> reporter: and that's what is at stake here, hundreds of billions of dollars that can then be taxable revenue. there are some estimates that put it upward of a half a trillion dollars of u.s. money bet in sites overseas. in ounow, let me show you. this is just one list of all of the off shore gambling sites out there. this goes down not 100, not 200, not 300, over 500 different offshore gambling sites were currently they take wagers from u.s. betters. so, if this is passed, this money can be brought back to the united states and taxed as taxable revenue. there are also implications for what happens with the sports, is the integrity of the sports and what to do about that. there are actually laws that need to be put in place and there are basically things put
