>> president trump finally weigh ed in on the sexual misconduct allegations against alabama senate candidate roy moore. take a listen. we don't need a liberal person in there, a democrat. he totally denies it. he says it didn't happen. he says 40 years ago this did not happen. as far as franken is concerned, he's going to have to speak for himself. i'd rather him speak for himself. >> a little hard to hearhe
6:31 pm
but he started off by saying we don't need a liberal democrat in the seat and that roy moore has denied the allegations against him that happened 40 years ago. the president appeared to throw his support behind moore. he'll announce next week if he'll campaign against the republican mitchell mcconnell have called on moore to dwrop out of the race. that's a bit of a change from yesterday when sarah huckabee sanders said the president would rather the citizens of alabama to make the decision. >> i'm not surprised. we appeared from kelly and conway and she said something similar to what the president. you don't want a document in there. when you look at these allegations and you base your notions on the d or the r next to their name and that's what you base the judgments upon period that's what's wrong. & that's what's wrong with the political process. that's what's wrong with discourse. we're talking about the mountin

beyond. the house ethics committee confirmed the sexual misconduct against a democrat, john quon yers. he release a settlement admitting to settling a complaint with a rm toker staffer, but denied the allegations of sexual sexual harassment. he said he would fully cooperate with that ethics investigation. let's bring in fox5 tom fitzgerald who has been getting reaction from lawmakers the investigation is moving forward and the house ethics committee? what is everybody saying about this? >>reporter: i'll tell you this this is not just any congressman , john conyers has been up here so long he was on the house judiciary committee that passed the articles of impeachment against richard nixon. that's the better part of four decades and this revelation today is stunning a lot of people up here on the hill. now this settlement, it was $27,000. it came out of this building behind us. this is where the congres

congressional office of compliance is located. all of this that has happened two years ago was done in secret. why is it done in secret, well, that is the system that congress laid out for itself. this story first came to light late last night when buzz feed news report ed it, the journalist who broke the story, paul mack cloud , he talked to fox5 news today and said that in these legal documents in this case other women who work for congressman john con yairs detailed similar treatment at the hands of the long time democratic lawmaker. there were affidavits that were notarized by other employees who essentially corroborated her statements and people were saying that they saw mr. conyers touching female staffers inappropriately, repeatedly rub bing their backs or their hands or their legs often in public even in front of people which some of these women said was humiliating and
6:34 pm
>> well, that's not all. see this document right here, our fox station in detroit tonight reporting that conyers was the subject of a federal sexual harassment lawsuit in march of this year in us district court. now, as regards to the allegation that settled this $27,000 incident, other women who filed affidavits in that case reported that conyers had women that he was involved in in affairs according to these affidavits and wofer the women's responsibilities was to set up travel arrangements to meet the congressman. when he was first approached at his home by the associated press today, conyers said he didn't remember anything about this. later on there was a statement that said he did remember it, but he was not guilty of any of these allegations, that he had settled this case to avoid any kind of long protracted legal case. that doesn't quite pass the case with the bus feed journalist who uncovered all of this. as we've been telling you, the way
6:35 pm
system is set up, a congressman would have to agree to settle the case, would have to know about it before any of this could move forward. however, this one did go far enough that he would have been aware. we were told that his chief of staff was in the settlement meetings representing him. he subsequently put out a statement today saying that he was confus ed and that, yes, i did settle this. however, he is maintaining his innocence. a loft the feedback tonight on this has been by way of printed statement. the reason for that, congress is out on its thanksgiving break now house speaker paul ryan saying today these allegations are disturbing . he wants an investigation. nancy pelosi said she wasn't aware of the settlements. conyers himself tonight saying jim and shawn that he will fully cooperate. but at this point he really doesn't have a choice. house ethics has announced this investigation is underway. he is going to have answer questions about h this o

or another. i know we heard from jackie spear and congressman comstock over the last couple of weeks and they were talking about active members of congress who were involved with a settlement that you brought to us last week, that whole fund. it seems like more drip, drip, drip coming down from capital hill when it comes to harassment. it also might be more than a drip, drip, drip. we were you can talking last week about two members of congress. remember there's 535 members up here. it is beyond the pail of reason to think that this is just limited to two members of congress as we move forward from this, it would be not a surprise if we were to hear about even more members of congress being employee embroiled in all of this. i agree with you, fits. we will be watching and we will be recording. thank you. also developing tonight, cbs and pbs fired veteran journalist charley rose. ate women have accused him of groping them, talking to

past few weeks. i'll tell you what struck me is how quickly yb s moved on charley rose. everything started to come out yesterday. they announced the suspension and then right around noon today the word came out that they're over and done with it. i believe tonight gail king is going to speak out. she'll be on late night tonight to talk a little bit more bit. it certainly moved quickly. it definitely did. i think as soon as the allegations came out he was suspended from those networks and now he's beneficial ly let go. so what do we think is going to come down here. you heard us talking about on congress what is a drip , drip that may soon become an opening of a flood gait. do you think we're going to hear more of these stories coming from hollywood, from journalism i mean right now these are all high profile people we're talk ing about. certainly there are every day people where this is happening as well, but do you think this is going to contine? >> i think that's what is so shocking about all these allegations is that there are plenty of

many people that we've grown to admire that most people have become fans of now we're seeing them kind of fall from grais and we've seen it start in silicone valley and then we've seen it come into hollywood and now congress and we haven't even reached new york yet. i think we are going to see a lot more high profile people with sexual harassment allegations. i think this is just the beginning. it's very disturbing. i'll tell you that. i also want to tonight you. i know that's not your name. i know that's not your name. stephkite thanks so much for joining us. >> paul manafort while he was a chairman chair is currently under house arrest. his attorney filed request to modify conditions asking for limited local travel and include some conditions. manafort ai and associate rick gates who is also under house arrest into russian

that earthquake hit in 2010, haze ands were granted it's called temporary protective status, we actually grant tps to people from nations around the world after national disasters or certain types of crises. this is a way for those people to come to the country temporarily, seek refuge if you will until the circumstances or situation changes on the ground in the country that they're from . now, that announcement was made last night that that program for the people of haiti would only last through 2019, an 18-month extension, if you will and then deportation proceedings will begin. a small protest. you can take a look at this, they gathered here at the white house earlier this evening and if you can believe it they were not recipients necessarily of tps from haiti. this was a group of people from all different backgrounds connected to the temporary immigrant community. i spoke with one gentleman who is
6:46 pm
daca and he really put it in an interesting way. he says even though he is not a tps recipient in reference to this program with haiti, as a temporary -- a person here who is with temporary status he feels connected to their plight. he says there are three pieces of legislation right now on the hill that are working to grant people with fps tps a permanent status and even though that wouldn't affect him as a dreamer would like to see that happen because it would be really be, as he put it, a win for anybody in that temporary immigrant community. take a listen to a little more from our interview earlier today. these would not be solutions for you, correct in >> no, but i feel really passionate about this because i know that an attack on tps orders is also an attack on documented immigrant youth. we feel like our paths are joined so we're fighting for each other . now, interestingly enough i did speak

recipient who is living in boston. he said that they are still in some ways very greatful for this 18-month extension because they look at that 18- month period as an opportunity to fight for that legislation to pass and maybe in that 18-month window come up with a permanent solution. so we'll certainly keep an eye on that, but at the same time i think what the administration's decision was, is certainly in line with the promises, if you will, that the president made on the campaign trail. back to you jim and shawn. it's hard to believe it's been so many years since the earthquake. >> slut defense taition. the supreme court is calling on the travel ban take effect. the travel ban would put different restrictions on foreign nations traveling from ate different countries. last month the high hawaiian blocked the bill, but later t
