students >> some parents brought their concerns to the administration's attention, and that's where it takes a turn. fox 5 tisha lewis in manassas live with the story. >> reporter: jim and sarah, the he incident apparently happened at park side middle school. this is a talker, nonetheless and so far it appears that prince william's county schools is defending the teacher who used the racial slur during class, during classroom instruction, in front of a classroom full of students. take a listen. she came in and she did i'm not going to read that book. it talks about: >> i'm like give the book a chance because in the 1950's, the word -- did mean what it means today. the white people most of the time

and they're not going to say well, when all the -- come, we'll be more culturally sensitive. i'm using the word because it's so loaded. >> reporter: appears the teacher was at least recorded using the n word at least three times, this video was posted to youtube. prince william's county school district said the incident happened last school year about six months ago but fox 5 was contacted and they say the incident happened just three weeks ago. either way, the teacher is heard on camera using the n word multiple times, students are reacting, one students saying he's telling. students are recording the lesson being taught is apparently how impactful the racial slur can be, a prince william's county spokesperson said the video is of her's edited and the clips fail

reveal that the teacher was seeking to demonstrate to students the power of he certain words. now, here's statement from the school district that goes on to say, the teacher had observed the students behaving inappropriately and was attempting to wake them up to the impact of a single word that people use to ignore. she did not intend to hurt or harass, but to educate, the video was brought to the attention of the principal earlier this year and made it clear that it would have been preferable to teach the lesson without uttering the word. the school district would not disclose if the teacher involved in this incident faced any disciplinary action citing their personnel privacy, code, what we are being told by the teacher who brought this to our attention is that the students, who videotaped the teacher using the n word, did face disciplinary action. tisha lewis fox 5 local news.

another fairfax county school aide is charged with a boy who autism. lee is the third fairfax county school employee to be charged with assaulting a child who has autism this week. days ago. a school bus driver and an aide were charged with the same crime. a top aide to roy moore has resigned. john rogers confirmed his resignation today to washingtonian magazine. multiple women have come forward claiming to have had sexual contact with moore when he was in his 30's. moore denied the allegations. rogers has not said why he's stepping down from his post as communications director. two police involved shootings in recent weeks in fairfax county and montgomery counties. the victimses were wounded but names haven't been released and either one of the men charged

fox 5 learn new dehli information about last friday's shooting involving u.s. park police, paul wagner live from the scene with more on this story. paul? >> reporter: this is where it happened last friday night around 7:30. i'm at fort hunt road and alexandria avenue. it was across the street here at this black chief cherokee came to rest in the officer there across t across the street. we've learned that the man who was shot was alone inside that jeep cherokee key. he's 40 years old. the car is registered to an address in mclean but at this point, the fbi, which is conducting the investigation, and the u.s. park police, have released very little information, but we have been able to learn a little bit more from listening to these radio transmissions. we'll a play three of them for you now. the first one you'll hear is from a u.s. park police officer who began t

washington parkway in alexandria. the fbi, which has taken over the investigation at the request of the u.s. park police chief said two officers were involved in the chase but only one fired his weapon. so far, the fbi is declined to say whether the man in the jeep was armed or if a weapon was found at the scene. there's also no explanation as to why the officer fired. from the police radio transmissions, sounds as if the man who was shot was still inside the jeep when he was hit by the gunfire. now, let's talk about the second police involved shooting. that happened back on november 5th in montgomery county. the day after the shooting took place, the police released the name of the officer and that only one shot was fired but here we are, days later, actually weeks later, and they still not released the name of the person who was shot. let's show you some video from that scene. in the parking lot of the korean

corner on series mill road police say there were calls from a man repeatedly ramming his car into another man's car. the first arriving officer shot the 52-year-old driver of a cadillac escalated once in the upper body but exactly why is still unclear. 17 days later, and no charges have been filed. now, back here, at fort hunt road we understand that the man who was shot, who was shot in the head, was transported to a nova fairfax county hospital where we understand he's still being treated tonight. we're live in alexandria. back to you guys in the studio. >> do we have any clue why they haven't released the names of the victims yet? >> reporter: the explanations i have gotten, number one, from montgomery county is because the man who was shot is not been charged, they're not releasing his name. also, they're saying he was a witness and since he was not killed in the shooting, they're under no obligation to release a name. in this case, we're being told

has requested that his name not be released. so that's why we're not getting these names. of course, if we had names, we'd be able to dig deeper into exactly what may have happened in both shootings. jim? >> paul wagner, thank you. an ms-13 gang member arrested for murder made his first appearance in court and we now know he is in the u.s. illegally. 19-year-old miguel angel lopez was arrested back on november 11th in north carolina. police say the victim's body was found at a park in wheaton in september. the victim had been stabbed more than 100 times. police are still trying to identify the victim, and the clothes you're looking at are somebody he was wearing when he was found. following the arrest in north carolina customs officials filed a detainer. >> law enforcement giving a usual reminder to celebrate

we spoke with danica rome, the first transgender elected official in virginia's history, for her reaction to the decision to remove gender from her title. now, is it empowering or does it remove an important component of her identity >> it's a case of doing the right thing for the wrong reason. i think that if the intent behind it was one in which it was just like, well, this is just, or just, you know, making sure that everyone who understood virginia is receiving the same honor, that's one thing, when it's done after a transgender woman is elected by the people of the 13th district to represent them as the gentlemen woman from prince william, if she was there to deal with the traffic job, schools, healthcare and every other issue that's important, that is a different story. >> spokesperson for the house majority leader says, in part, the gentle lady and genem

. this is fox 5 local news at 5:00. here's a look at your headlines, first up a maryland man facing charges for sexually abusing a toddler. police arrested 80-year-old joseph roles at his home in newark. accused of fondling a four-year-old girl. detectives learned he may have sexual assaulted others over the years. if you think your child may have been a victim please call police. take you to woodly park pfour suspects wanted in a robbery and you're looking at the surveillance video, this happened last thursday on woodly road northwest. four suspects there assault add woman, snatched some of her personal property and took off. of course, police are still investigating. border parole officers made an unusual drug bust. officers seized 1200 tubes of hyper gel ointment, which is an unapproved top

treat people who are going through such a hurtful situation >> a an emotional plea from a grieving family tonight following a lawsuit against a northwest dc funeral home accused of defrauding families fox 5 cori coffin is live at dc superior court with the details. cori. >> reporter: this restraining order here means that austin royster funeral home will not be able to provide services for clients or seek money. attorney general's office told me they were happy with the judge's decision, they feel it means they have a strong case because they did have to meet a certain burden of proof in this case. the attorney general's office is alleging that chief operating officer ja mel royster and james aggie have been operating without proper licensing more than a year. it also cites several instances where royster convinced people to sign over their love ones

more than funeral costs promising to return the excess to the client. in one case, a family lost $47,000. dozens of people have come forward identifying themselves as victims of a scheme that's allegedly gone on more than a year. >> it's hurtful. the people still do this to other people. have no sympathy at all >> because it's been without a license more than a year, it hasn't been able to get death certificates and it can't provide the funeral services that consumers paid it to perform. >> reporter: now, the attorney general's office tells me that they seized more than 100 cream mains and bodies from the funeral home. they're still investigating how many of those are actually associated with this case. and today's temporary restraining order grants a freeze. royster and aggie's assets, they're seeking restitution as well as help from the s

>> we' district resident actually recorded this incident during a traffic stop in southwest earlier this month. fox 5 matt ackland spoke to the mayor today and joins us from the wilson building with the latest. matt? >> reporter: the mayor did take a look at that video today. we're told the police chief reviewed it as well. we'll hear from the mayor in just a moment. let's set the scene, take a look at that video. here's the video the man took. he describes the stop that he is way. a police car pulled up besides him as he was walking. the officer asked him if he was carrying any guns on him. he said no. then the officer demands to see the man's waistband. the squad car pulls off. man says this happens often in his neighborhood. he said he was offended because he thinks he was stopped because he is black. we asked the mayor for her thoughts after she saw the video and she said what is important to find out is what led up to this
