"fox5 local news at 10" starts right now. >> and we begin tonight with a "fox5" up state out of prince george county. things are back to normal now after a crash involving a police officer on the beltway. sky fox flew over the scene in largo. the officer was aresponding to assistant call when his vehicle was hit by another car. the officer lost control of his car and hit two additional cars. rescue crews had to cut the officer out of the cruise ers ever the officer and eight other people were taken to the hospital for treatment and all are expected to recover. lanes on the beltway were closed in both directions for a time and they have since reopened. good news. >> good news there. >> all right, now to holiday travel. people are on the move tonight. the buzzest travel day of the year

"fox5" lindsey watts starts us live from reagan national airport. hey, lindsay. >> shawn, tony, buzzest travel day of the year. you wouldn't know it at reagan tonight. i'm the only person in the tsa live if you can believe it. someone went through a moment ago. it has been calm in the last few hours. we can show you video this morning when we had a crew out there. is that the when we saw the holiday crowds here at reagan. when we sfwot here we saw a little bit of an issue with traffic. it was around 7:00 tonight and it took us about 40 minutes get from the entrance of the airport to the terminal. other than that, though, it has been very quiet. travelers we talked to have been happy to see this. some wondering if maybe more people traveled yesterday with so much hype surrounding to today. take a listen.

it's been great we're expecting a lot of congestion and delays. >> it's calm. i was expected it to be chaotic. they talk about worst travel day of the we're year so nobody wants to do it. we actually got a better fare today than yesterday. >> i flew in from providence yesterday and on our way to reagan we did like two holding patterns over the eastern shore it's supposed to be an hour but it increased five minutes. >> reporter: that last man was picking up his brother tonight. he had a rough day coming in from california yesterday. so even though we're not seeing anything too crazy at reagan tonight, some people are -- more people are traveling for thanksgiving overall this year compared to last year. that's according to aaa. this is actually the highest number of people traveling 50 miles or more are to the holiday in the last 12 years since 2005. aaas is

we must warn you are very graphic. marine a. >> that's right tony. all details in this arrest warrant. graphic, crude, homicide so violent police yet to identified that victim. police say this man on the screen is 19-year-old mega l lona lopez the first of several other gang members to stab the victim to death with a 15" knife and informant told police the victim was lured here to the wheaton regional park where he would meet killers. he is said to have waited near the wooded area with walky talky in hand to alert the other suspects of the victim's arrivalle would was lured to the park from annapolis. according to court documents, the victim was stabbed more than 100 times, de cap taitd, dismembered and his heart was cut out of his chest and then thrown into a predug grave. the victim is believed to have been killed

montgomery county detectives were alerted to the grave s site. these pictures are of the victim's clothes. they were released from the public last month in an effort to help identify the victim. and, today, we learned 19-year-old lopez abrigo was a student at northwood high school and wroou from school last year and according to immigration and customs enforce. lopez rodrigo originally from el salvador is in the country illegally and ice lodged a detainerer against the the suspect following his arrest. live in montgomery county, marina marraco, "fox5 local news". there's new information on the deadly shoot are of baltimore city police de tickettive. today shawn suitor who was shot and killed last week was set to testify in a corruption probe of indicted baltimore police officers police officers. he was not the target of any

scheduled to testify before a grand jury the day after he was murdered. that grand jury is investigating members of a crime task force charged with stealing money, property and drugs for people over a 2-year-period. police are looking for the gunman this case and award are leading to arrest is now at $215,000. we have an update now the fbi is taking the lead in the the investigation of a u.s. park police shooting in northern virginia that left a driver critically wounded. it happened last friday night u.s. park police were chasing a driver that allegedly left the scene of hit and run near the george washington parkway. the chase continued into the alexandria section of fairfax country and eventually the driver pulled off the parkway and crashed. take a listen to the radio transmissions from the chase. you can hear the gunfire in the background. >> what will be the charge. >> fleeing from scene of accident at this point. >>

how is it going, lauren. >> we are aare live in gaithersburg and as you know the wednesday before thanksgiving notoriously a big drinking night with people coming home. seeing friends and family that they have not seen for a while. the bars we've been passing are packed and and and and it baffles a lot of us when there is a lot of time the driver will be really, really drunk and than when it comes time to weather we tow the car or park the car whatever the case may be we ask if they had a drink they say nothing or truly one beer taken baffles us they would let -- the drunk person ep would get behind the wheel and drive and sit behind the passenger seat. >> something to be aware of.

between thanksgiving and new year's there's holiday alcohol task force. there's extra officers on the street. officer noah leotta was hit and killed on rockville pike. his father came to speak to the officers about how important this is and the work they're doing and we talked to him as well and his work on noah's law which beefed up the enforcement after someone is convicted in montgomery countsy you now will have interlock device nut your car. here's what his father had to say. >> we're here tonight because this is the kickoff of the holiday task force. this is 24/7, 365 days a year problem. be responsible. think about yourself. think about others. and take a safe and sober ride home for yourself and for the sake of others and memory of those victims of drunk dri driving. >> so imp

when all the [ bleep ] come we'll have to be more cul culturally sensitive or something. i'm just using that word because it's so loaded. >> this video was posted on utube and as you heard the teacher used n world at least three times and school district says the incident happened last school year about six months ago and "fox5" was contacted by someone said they're a teacher at parkside and the incident they sea say happened three weeks ago. either way the teacher is heard on camera using n word multiple times students are reacting and recording and it's how impact full the racial slur you can be. a prince will yunt county school person says the 6-month-old video is heavily edited and clips failed to reveal the teacher was seeking to demonstrate to the students the power of certain words. a statement goes on to say the teacher had observed the students behaving inappropriately and was attempting to wake them up to the impact of a single word that p

she did not intend to hurt or harass but to educate. the video was brought to the attention to the principal environmentalier this school year and she made it clear it would be preferable to teach the lesson without uttering the specific word. the district would not disclose any disciplinary action if any was taken against the teacher that used racial slur in the classroom setting but "fox5" learned we're told that the students who actually reported the video. we're told they did face disciplinary action.
