head home after the holidays and back to work, will the clear skies continue? georgia again between has your forecast. we begin tonight with a story that you will see only on fox5. a photo has led to an internal investigation in the suspension of at least two officers who patrol arlington national cemetery. the picture appears to show a group of police officers laughing while they pre tend to beat a fellow officer . evan lambert live outside arlington national cemetery with the exclusive de tails. marina, lauren, those photos came from a source within the joint base meyer/hen der son police department. is that the agency that protects arlington national cemetery. that source fells us the photos were taken in plain view on thanksgiving day and then posted to facebook here are those images again. we

ha office offices of the officers. but in the unedited photo you can see several officers smiling and laughing in uniform outside a building at acialg ton national. several squad cars are in the background as wevment one officers in the white appears to be in a supervisory role, possibly a lieutenant as another officer is on the ground appearing to be the subject of police violence. we asked people around d.c. to react to these photos. here's what they had to say. to me it's childish . it's immature, un professional. it just gives the police a bad rap like worse than what they already have. it gives them a worse rap. i don't think it's funny. that's what i think. i don't think it's appropriate, especially at arlington and especially it look s like mostly white guys beating a black guy. i don't find that appropriate and funny or

more background ground when these photos were given to us yesterday i tried for about 24 hours to get a comment from the base. they finally got back to me confirming that there is an internal investigation. they say that theses of oners were " horsing around and then the behavior deteriorated into what they called unprofessional behavior. they say that this behavior, these photos do not represent the base or the agency and i should make clear that these officers are civilian officers. they work for the military but they are not members of the military. live here at arlington national cemetery, evan lambert, fox5 local news. >> now to some breaking news, a lawsuit has been final filed to lead the consumer financial protection bureau. a federal official who was elevated to lead the burrow filed the lawsuit. the suit asks for a temporary restraining order to

director nick mulvaney from taking on the role. the white house maintains the president has the legal authority to appoint an acting director of that bureau. a tragic find inside of a prince george's county home. the body of a mother and her two year old son found at a hyattsville home and police believe it was murder/ suicide. investigators were called to a townhouse by a concerned family member. when they arrived they found the woman and child with trauma to their upper bodies, both pronounced dead at the scene. also in prince george's county fire officials are investigating arson at a vacant townhome. this happened just after midnight in the 800 block of neptune avenue in oxon hill. they're trying to figure out who started the fire and they're ask ing anyone with information to contact them by calling that number on your screen 301-77- arson. >> and tonight family and friends of a man missing for months gathered to honor him on

his 29th birthday. back in august david gibson smith traveled from his home in new jersey to howard county to meet a friend. his family hasn't heard from him since. fox5's lindsay watts live in woodbine, maryland with the story. >>reporter: there are strange circumstances surrounding this dwis peerns. david's parents say some have speculated maybe he just wanted to go off the grid. but he left behind his car. he hasn't touched the money in his bank account and his cellphone has been dead since the day he went missing. family members just wait for answers as days and months continue to pass. today is his birthday and it was important for me to be at the site where he was last seen. he's just incredibly missed

time to find him. july and doug smith organized the three hour bus ride from their church in new jersey. family and friends gathering for their son's 29th birthday to pray for his return no one has heard from david smith his august. it's dramatically out of character. the longest that we've ever gone even being out of contact with him has been probably about four days, maybe five days at the most. david's parents are the first to say it, the story of their son's disappearance just doesn't add up. they say david left their home in new jersey to visit a friend in howard county he was supposed to stay with her , but that fell through and he ended up staying with that woman's friend. the friend says she last saw david when she dropped him off on some property that belongs to her family. there is a pond and around the pond was a camp fire and a hammock and some

like an early junkyard feel to it. according to david's mother the woman said david was using drugs and wanted to disee tox. family says david has struggled with substance abuse, but that he has been clean for a yeemplet there's enough suspicion behavior surrounding the story that it brings fear. howard county police have combed the property, conducting a large scale search by land and air. no sign of david. investigators say they found no evidence of foul play, but are considering every possibility. we pray. we hope. we trust that someone will come forward with truthful information to help us find him and david is six foot four so he would definitely stand out in a crud crowd. if you think you've

a $6,000 reward to information that leads to finding him. as for the last two women last known to have contact with david we did want to talk to them, but family says that police have requested that their names not be publicly shared. we're live in woodbine, lindsay watts, fox5 local news. >> in montgomery county, the red cross helping about 25 people who were displaced following an electrical fire at a highrise apartment building. the fire began just before 67 # 6:30 saturday morning at the enclave apartments on oak leave drive in silver springs. fire officials say the fire originated on the 13th floor. it caused about $45,000 in damage. thankfully no one was hurt. back to work for many folks tomorrow after the long holiday weekend. we had mild weather, clear skies and it wasn't terribly cold, either. the important part is no rain with everybody out there on the roads. >> absolutely right. for those people who were standing in line for all the bargains this

conyers announced that he is stepping down from his leader ship role on a powerful house commit committee. we hear more from fox's molly hennenberg >>reporter: democratic senator ial franken says that he'll be back to work tomorrow and that this has been embarrassing and shock to him that women have accused him of groping them. first of all, i just want to say that this whole thing has been embarrassing and, you know, and it's been difficult. this is what i'm doing. i'm taking responsibility. i apologized to the women who felt disrespected and to everyone i've let down. franken says he will cooperate with an ethics investigation, but will not step down from his senate seat. in the house, michigan democratic congressman john conyers said today that he will be stepping down as the top democrat on the powerful house judiciary committee as the house

the he jimtion government vowing revenge after friday's deadly mosque attack. more than 300 people were killed when militants in five vehicles attacked the mosque in the sinai peninsula. we get the latest now from fox's connor powell. as egyptians mark a weekend of mourning for the 305 people killed on friday, authorities there now getting a better picture of what happened in the small village of beer al a bed. according to village locals, isis militants have regularly threatened the community warning them not to cooperate with egyptian security forces. they're despiced by extremists and viewed by groups like al qaeda and isis as aprostates. around noon on friday more than two dozen well armed militants waiving isis flags attacked the al rada mosque first setting off a

>> we're learning more about the three salors killed when their transport crashed in the west pacific. two of the salors were from florida. the other was from louisiana. fox's bryan llenas reports. a day's long search in the philippines see reaching a tragic end this even the navy confirming the deaths of an officer and two salors killed in an aircraft crash. admiral john richardson tweeting , quote, our navy team stick ts together. we have each others' backs, together our thoughts and prayers go out to familiaritily, friends and ship mates of these three americans. identifying the salors at lieutenant steven combs, mate air man mat true ill stros try, air men apprentice brian gross troa. he was apparently the 2013 val dick and. gross oh was from florida and had received the national defense ribbon among other awards.

aircraft was traveling to the us s ronald reagan when it crashed. the plane was carrying eleven crew and passengers. ate were saved at the scene of the crash. for two days the uss ronald reagan led a search and rescue effort with help from the japan maritime self defense searching a thousand square naught california miles using ships, aircraft, but ultimately they could not find the three sale ors. just a very selfless and genuine person. it's been a really, real, tough quum of days . i hope with time lot of our questions are answered and we have more certainty so we can understand and get closure. the investigation into the cause of the crash continue, but this marks the latest deadly incident in a string of mishaps this year for the us seven fleet based in japan. in new york, bryan llenas, fox news. >> president trump returns to washington today after spending thanksgiving at

state, first lady melania and son barron also made the trip. on saturday president trump spent the day at trump international golf course. someone shot this video. and a driver in florida tried to cut off the president's motorcade this weekend. this video right here shows the motorcade but the incident itself was not caught on camera. the man apparently yelled expletives and made obscene gestures after he was pulled over by police. authorities say it happened shortly after the presidential motorcade left trump's golf course no word on the identity of that driver. up next at ten, senatorial franken preparing to return to work. despite calls for his resignation over sexual misconduct allegations the minnesota democrat is not stepping down even though he's admitting he's sometimes crossed the line.

>> this is fox5 local news at ten. minnesota senatorial frank en will be back at work tomorrow, four women have accused franken of inappropriate ly touching them. franken says he's embarrassed by the allegations and has apologized for his actions. he admits he crossed the line in some instances when embarrassing his constituents. franken says \he\e he will not resign his senate seat. an ethics committee investigation will combine his conduct. franken has agreed to cooperate with the investigation. congress back to work tomorrow following the thanksgiving holiday break and members will have a lot on their plate passing \tax\tacks reform, avoiding a government shutdown and raising spending, just some of the big issues that they face , fox's caroline sheave lie has more. >>reporter:

depression. claudia cohen reports. >>reporter: let's talk about the meeting. researchers at ucl a have launched a half build study with the love ticketed event goal of eradicating depression. we don't want to make it so that people aren't ever sad or no longer blew we want to have it so it doesn't rob people of their life. 8,000 people commit suicide. one out of four women and one in six men will experience depression sometime in their life with symptoms ranging from panic attacks to an inability to ungs if. in the past two weeks how often have you felt worthless. using a mobile interface ucla hopes to recognize the cognitive symptoms by surveying 100 volunteers. to really try to understand what the course of their depression is, to understand why it's being

year. we like the shape. we like the smell. consumers across the country are facing a shortage of trees stemming from the recession which drove down demand. growers planted fewer trees and now we're feeling the effects. since it takes about a decade for a tree to grow big enough to be sold. it takes a long time for them to grow so we're looking at another three to five years of shortage on christmas trees. demand is back , but supplies are down forcing a price increase of five to ten percent this year. some tree growers say they have no choice. we hadn't raised a price for five or six or seven years but we had on go up. i've been in this business for 32 years and i've never had to pay the prices that i'm having. the supply of trees in california and other began. california is driving this market. if getting a christmas tree is on your to do list this holiday season

shop early to get the best selection. >> forth first time ever people have to set a date to see santa at macy's flagship store in new york city. the company says the new policy is to cut down on wait times. people can sign up for a time slot online and rest vagues can be canceled or chang ed at any time. i think it would be great to book an appointment with santa especially if you have small children because standing in line with them they don't understand and sometimes you have to wait a long time but that's for years and years and years. you have to change it. i like the idea because you get to see him right away. when i was online i made friends and i got to talk to people. that's cute. families can schedule their appointment anywhere from 30 minutes to five days in advance. >> that's not that bad. i'm interested. obviously a lot of people from this area drive up to go see santa at
