away. the melina's will be sentenced in january and they're facing up to 55 years in prison each. live in rockville lindsay watts fox 5 local news. montgomery county police are investigating two bank incidents that happened just ten minutes apart this afternoon. investigators say man walked into the bband t bank on 7 locks road in rockville. police tell us the would be robbery told the teller he had an explosive device. he left without any money. ten minutes later, someone walked into a td bank, on shady grove road in gaithersburg and demanded money and got away with cash. police are investigating whether these incidents are related. to prince george's county now, where we now know the cause of a house fire that claimed the lives of two people. it happened on lorraine drive in temple hills earlier this month. firefighters pulled 83-year-old la vinenia and her

massage envy. the man accused of assaulting her is facing charges and is currently in jail. it is a question of equity or convenience. school boundaries in montgomery county came to a head tonight after the school bus voted to redraw the boundaries of schools. cori coffin is live in montgomery county tonight with more on this story. corey? >> reporter: this crtainly is a poll lumbar rising issue. some people think low income should have the opportunity to go to other schools >> others believe you can't just sprinkle students wherever you want them to make the numbers fit this came about due to the newest school, richard montgomery elementary number five, originally more than 40% qualify ford free and reduced

to the surrounding schools to ten to 17% since the rate was so high at rm 5. there was a strong show of support for one proposal that would have distributed those students, but kept the feeding neighborhoods together. ultimately though the board chose another option. it is similar but it cuts through those neighborhoods to relieve overcrowding at some schools. parents weren't upset about the result necessarily, just about the process >> this process was deeply flawed. mcps has admitted that they made numerous mistakes in their enrollment projections. they conducted a boundary study and results are essentially rendered moot by the fact they were proposing last minute boundary plans that had never been considered or commented on or reviewed by the public. >> reporter: i talked to the board about those issues. they tell me they offered up

because of the issues with the calculations that they had discovered. they also tell me that hundreds of people did have the chance to weigh in during those last two weeks of public comments they heard from many, many people on it's issue. still, these problems have led parents to wonder how montgomery county's school bus will move forward with boundary changes if this particular one was so mired in these problems, those changes, the decision that was made will be taking effect next school year, cori coffin fox 5 local news. president trump is hoping to achieve at least one major legislative accomplishment before the end of his first calendar year in office. his focus is tax reform. earlier, he tweeted the tax cut bill is coming along well. great support. a few changes, some mathematically. the middle class and job producers can get more actual dollars in savings and the pass, through provision becomes similar and wks

officers on a bicycle lunging and falling after a failed attempt to stop one of the bikers we caught up with dc mayor muriel bowser to get her take and whether it was in line with the no chase policy. >> i can't comment on anything i haven't seen. >> i have the video >> no thank you. do you have any other questions about the event? >> reporter: i do have a question. >> ok. >> reporter: what would you suggest be done to address the issue like this in the district? >> i think our policies are clear around illegal atv's >> police say the no chase policy was not violated in this case and they stand by the officers' actions. no arrests have been made in this incident. fairfax county is cracking down on holiday thieves, over weekend, county's anti-theft team busted four women at tyson's corner center. investigators believe they are part of an organized retail crime ring hitting stores across the country. authorities say they caught the women with more than $29,000 worth of stolen

least 13 different stores. the women now face 23 felony charges and three misdemeanor charges >> this picture here appears to show a group of police who patrol at arlington national cemetery laughing while they pretend to beat a fellow officer in front of tomb of the unknown soldier, evan lambert broke the story, some people were outraged after seeing this. >> reporter: they were shawn, and just today, we learned about that location. the photos teen at the tomb of the unknown soldier in especially sacred spot here, leadership at the cemetery has called this deeply troubling, and disappointing, we want to show you those images once again. all the officers in this photo work at joint base myer henderson hall. they patrol the cemetery and the base nearby. someone within the department gave us the photos which were posted to facebook. that source tells us they were taken in front of the tomb of

thanksgiving day. since the base hasn't yet determined any wrongdoing, we're blurring the officers' faces, we do know two officers are on desk duty during the internal investigation. in the unedited photo you can clearly see the officer smiling and laughing while they appear to attack their colleague with a baton and pepper spray. a spokesman for the base has said that the officers were, quote, horsing around but has called the behavior appearing to be unprofessional. he also said that this is not represent the other officers on the base, we talked with some people who were visiting the cemetery. showed them the photos and got their take. listen >> my son-in-law is a maryland state trooper. and on so many levels this is disturbing. i know the police get a very bad rap. a lot of times. and we see it as a respectful position. so seeing that is

a construction dumping site they say is poisoning the air they breathe, marina marraco talked with city leaders about this problem going on for years and marina is here with more >> imagine living covered in dust and breathing the particles of a construction dumping saw the every day. that's a reality for residents of a northeast dc neighborhood and for year, they have pleaded for help from the city. five years ago, they thought that help had arrived. the site and the city signed this agreement. things then should have changed. the smell is here. the dirt is here. the dust is a here. >> reporter: nearly 30 years, the solid waste facility has sat amidst other industrial sites amongst other neighborhoods >> the dirt, dust noise is bad. >> reporter: feet away are homes where tax paying residents of the district live and breathe. >> some

. commuters on the staton island ferry hit a bit of a bummer. the ferry was only about 100 feet from shore but took several trips to get everyone back to ground. no one was hurt and evacuated safely. bally's airport is closed for a second day because of volcanoic ash. since sunday. more than 400 flights cancelled nearly 60,000 passengers stranded today on the first day of the closure, which, in turn, led to mass evacuations, the volcano's last major eruption in 1963 killed about 1100 people. >> that could go on for quite a while. >> there was one that iceland >> really

right around normal in the next couple days we'll be right up there tomorrow upper 50's, low 60's, looks like by wednesday another day in the lower to mid 60's. this lasts for awhile when we do finally cool off a little bit, wednesday night, thursday, it will not be a big cool-down next couple days, lower 60's. wednesday, a few more clouds, i'll show you coming up in a second on futurecast. there's a frontal system coming through and it will bring clouds and that may keep temperatures only in the low 60's. but i'll say right now, if they're not a lot of clouds with the front, certainly not rain, but if there's not a lot of clouds, 62 may end up being more look 64 or 65. stay tuned for that. satellite and radar, a lot of this breaking up as it comes into high pressure, sinking air tends to make things stable. clouds can't live in this real stable atmosphere and that's what's happening up and down the east coast. tomorrow we'll have a few high
