lighting or got plans to be outdoors later today. going to be nice day for it yesterday i got up on my roof and i gleaned gutters i highly recommend you clean the gutters before we get really stormy. >> are you available to clean other people's gutters. >> for the right price i'll clean anybody's gutters. >> i've cleaned a lot of gutters in my day. >> i understand. >> uh-huh. >> we're talking about physical gutter. >> price tag on everything. >> thanks tuck. appreciate it. >> bye guys. >> let's get to the big story today. big story at 9:00 still is matt lauer's shocking exit at nbc news. this morning the former host is saying sorry for the first time. it's been more than 24 hours since lauer's termination was announced the news that he was being let go after 20 plus years at nbc came a major shock to his co-workers and viewers. now the details on why he was let go are spilling out. you'll remember yesterday that nbc cite add specific complaint from a female staff that led them to fire lauer. that complaint came in monday night and reported hal to do

started when lauer and the staff were working at 2014 sochi olympic and continued after the games. since then nbc announced two more accusers have come forward alleging sexual misconduct. after the firing variety mag seep came out with details of what it says was a two-month investigation into lauer. the magazine says today on core exposed himself to female colleagues, gave a sex toy to one co-worker and told her how he wanted to use it on her and often asked female staffers with whom they had slept. variety also reports the disgraced news anchor had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his office door without getting up. the magazine says, female staffers did complain to nbc execs over the years but that nothing was done about it. now nbc continues to maintain that monday's complaint by the staff was the first time the management had been made aware lauer's alleged conduct. this morning, the today show led with a statement from lauer in he apologized for

caused others and the network. he also said not all of what has come out is true but says enough of it is to make him feel embarrassed and ashamed. he also said repairing the damage he caused will now be his full-time job. story has the whole country buzzing that includes late night comedians nbc jimmy fallon weighing in last night. take a look. >> that's the big story today nbc fired matt lauer from the today show after he was accused of inappropriate sexual beh behavior. if you're wondering where in the world is matt lauer, he's probably at a bar with charlie rose. newspaper he says he put his hands on female colleague's bare back when he was consoling her and he says that when the woman recoiled and that he apologized immediately and later again in an e-mail to that woman. keeler says the woman said that she had forgiven him and claims they were friends up until quote her lawyer called. >> on capitol hill the house of representatives now has passed new rules requiring anti sexual harassment training for all members that move in response to allegations of sexual misconduct which include embattled michigan congressman conyers. conyers refuses to resign despite the allegations against him. some members of the congressional black caucus have circled conyers to protect him in fact one member asked why conyers was not held at the same standard at other high profile figures. >> in other industries have faced similar accusations and gotten out of the way, resign, stepped down far faster and that he

didn't matter whether the videos were real that the threat posed by islamic extremists is real. debate on the big tax reform bill will continue today in the senate. final vote could come tonight or tomorrow. senate republicans are still considering whether to cut the corporate tack rate less than president trump wanted that's in and effort to win support of a few gop members who are still worried that the bill doesn't do enough to help small businesses. 9:09 right now. american airline urging -- you are jennly dealing with massive pilot schedule link problem. working to avoid a holiday halt tots flights. >> all while heading into the busiest travel period of the year of course around the christmas holiday. melanie alnwick live from reagan national airport with more. this could potentially be a real mess, mel. >> reporter: that's right. now i can tell you that american airlines says it is confident it will be available to avoid those flight cancellations. i did just get a look at the nights -- the airports and the dates that are affected. i can tell you here at d.c. a we dot

flights but it's the span of about one week from december 20th to the 27th. and we're working to get that information posted on our website right now. but it really is going to require a lot of cooperation and some give and take on the part of the airline and also on the part of the union but for now, many passengers plans are up in the air. the dates we're talking about are december 17th to the 31st critical holiday travel times. so a glitch in american's online pilot schedule link system allowed too many pilots to take off during those weeks. and that has left some 15,000 flights according to the union without a full crew. they are grounded until pilot seats are filled. now, american airlines has a plan. it says it will usery serve pilots and it's also offering 150% of pay to pilots who pick up some of those open trips. pilots association, tells me that its pilots want to fill those cockpits but the airline is not offering that premium

in. so there's not a lot of incentive in their opinion to give holiday time back. pilots also want assurances if they agree to pick up some of those flights they won't get held over. if they say they'll work a certain shift, they want to be able to know that that shift is going to end and that they can make their plans around that. now, american airlines has said it will work with the union, and they're going to ensure that they'll get customers where they need to go for the holidays. but at this point, guys, there's been no meeting set up between the union and american airlines. so for passengers really the only back stop that they might have if they're really concerned about it is to buy another ticket fully refundable tick as we talked about very expensive and then if american airlines works all of this out and the flights go off as schedule you can just get awry fun for that. but that's a lot of money to front in case they don't get it work out. live at reagan national melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> what a mess. >> i mean that's a

already in place company policies on the issue sexual harassment training or even sensitivity in the workplace and what needs to change there is attorney nick johnson. good morning to you. >> how is it going. >> i think a lot of us very concerned because this is all coming to the noor now we're wondering what are the guidelines what rules are in place? and who should we be checking with at this point? >> there are a miriad of things. any time this happens on the global scale we're all getting on the job training. right? so programs, sexual harassment programs you have different levels. you have initial policies, state, federal. but primarily there are not a lot of state that is require mandatory training. lots of things err mess miss seive. think about on capitol hill. there's still just deciding to say, oh, whether even the members should be held to a higher standard, right. >> d.c., mary v have a any of them mandatory? >> none. >> is that an excuse though if you don't have the training? is that excused behavior.

on-the-job training. i think we all have common sense the things that we should note here are that this is nay grant predatory behavior, right. this is not a one off. this is not hey, i made a mistake. but i also want to talk about the issue of couldn't zen. what is harassment and what is consent? i got to tell you talking about matt, katie couric gave a great example. she was talking on some talk show and she -- i think they were asking her whether it was something that matt did and she was like, oh, he pinched me on my hiney part and she laughed about it. that's consent, guys. that's fine. i want to tell you this is not a black or white issue. what if she comes back and says i laughed at the time but looking back i really felt some kind of way about it. >> does chef a case then? >> she does but -- well, a case -- what are we talking about a case, does she want to go to court? does she want to have her voice amongst the courts. there are different standards

everybody is not going to go to jail for this. people are going to -- some will get fired. but you have to say what you mean and mean what you say, too. this is a balancing act. i wouldn't say go on and joke about it and then say, hey -- you know, these are serious claims. people's jobs are being on the line. >> that's what we're seeing now. let me ask you this question. based thon example what you just brought up of someone saying okay to me that was consent. >> yes. >> same person does that to somebody else and they say whoa, no. i don't appreciate that. >> absolutely. >> person may never repeat that behavior again after the person said no because we always hear say no if you are opposed to it. >> absolutely. >> but can they still be held accountable for that if the person said i don't like it and okay, sorry. my bad. >> it is a relationship. it's a two hiv way street. first of all, let's not go the line and touch somebody's behind parts. >> in perfect world people would realize that. >> these men dropping their pants and

parts. >> really a abuse seive flagrant displays of just bad behavior. why is this so awesome that this is happening on the world stage because now that's the training. we're knowing that these guys are predators. it's not happening one or two. there are between eight and 80 women in these differ circumstances that this is happening to. so what do i say to the woman that may be at the wal*mart or maybe in a different environment? number one, take notes and compare notes. because when they're going to the meet media and they're comparing notes, they're corroborating the second thing is, the media is an important ally. even though it's happening to celebrities but it's also the reporters the accuracy of the reporting that's being done. variety magazine, new york times, washington post, can i just say fake news is not fake when it's corroborated. >> what i wonder is bringing it closer to home like in our work

♪ >> we're finding out about many grinches. you want to celebrate the holidays much this morning we're highlighting unfortunate problem this time of year when thieves swipe holiday packages right off of people's porches. within the past hour prince george's county police shared video from earlier this month where you'll see a person pulling up outside of a home in camp springs, pop the trunk of the vehicle, knock on the door, see if anybody is home, and when no one answers, they walk off with the package and it goes right no the trunk of the vehicle. now it's not the first time. it's the second incident that really we've just shown you this morning in prince george's county. bob barnard was talking with homeowners where it just happened recent until largo. bob, as this story -- bob has this story for us. you hate it it's the holidays. you want to celebrate and be in

people taking things right off your door stem. >> reporter: what are you going to do? i'll tell you people here say, it's happened here before. it's probably going happen ag again. this most recent case was from yesterday. and this is the house where it happened. townhome here on harry truman drive. and the homeowner says he ordered on monday two echo dots from amazon. and that is what was stolen. he has up here right above the door you can see a camera out front, and this is what captured the crime in progress. the delivery and the crime and he zen us the third yo and here it is. first you see the ups driver make the delivery around 1:00 o'clock yesterday afte afternoon. the man says he was at work and saw it coming in on his phone. didn't think anything of it. ups saying they make 700 million deliveries during the time between thanksgiving and christmas. and then he gets alerted about 35 minutes later when he sees this. a guy there at his front door. now the man dana forsythe said he was meeting he couldn't ac

scare the guy off he watched the guy pick up the pack k from ups the amazon dots and walk off. he said, you know, what could he do. he was kind of stuck and that's what happened. well, we've been talking to neighbors who say this happens all the time in this particular neighborhood, and one lady we spoke to after seeing our earlier broadcast said i recognize that guy. i saw him in the neighborhood yesterday. i didn't know what he was doing. but that's clearly what he was doing. she went back in her house we put our camera back over here on our tripod. we were hanging out and then she comes running out of her house and says there he is. there he is. he was right in the grass here. she says the same guy who was here yesterday. jack frame our photographer saw him and captured this video as we went around the copy and saw him walking across the street. down harry truman drive here. he was walking away from us wearing a white t-shirt today and long pants. the lady who saw him claims that's the guy who was here yesterday and captured on ca camera. the video that was submitted to police
