outside of dover delaware. >> yes, and seeing folks talk about it right now on twitter. people thought -- people thought that they were imagining it, that this was another repeat but i'm telling you our anjali hemphill was in silver spring and said my dog leo and i felt a slight rumble heard stuff shaking on the shelves in silver spring and a lot of you are saying you felt it too. i remember august 23rd that's when we had the 5.8 here that wasn't definitely something that sticks in your memory. if this was indeed a 5.1 magnitude which is the preliminary reporting from the u.s. gs we would have felt that. i didn't feel it here at fox5. back on august 23rd 2011 there was no question what you were feeling. i was in a hair salon, surprise and i felt like the washing machine was off balance maybe they were doing the towels and i looked across the street and the windows were shaking on every building and w

supposed to do at that time which is run out of the building because of falling debris. this lasted about a minute according to people we have been speaking with tonight. a lot of you again just getting tuned in saying i felt this earthquake in upper marlboro maryland, that was patricia warren many people say that there -- again we believe it was centered about 10-kilometers east-northeast of dover delaware. hopefully let's go back to what happened, the 5.8 in 2011. so much damage to the washington monument. so much damage to the national cathedral that is still being worked on and that earthquake was felt i remember from really the canadian border down through the carolinas. it will be interesting to see how far north, south, east and west people are going to tell us that he felt this earthquake. i'm checking twitter again. this is where twitter is so incredibly helpful, isn't it? the first idea that we had that something happened was one of our editors coming

on a suspect. suiter was killed two weeks ago the day before he was supposed to testify before a grand jury. fox5's tisha lewis with more. >> reporter: sarah and jim it's unsettling and these new charges stem from an encounter with a suspect after a high speed chase and crash back in 2010. well, now as these new charges surface lawmakers are asking the fbi to investigate the case. suiter was an 18 year veteran of the department. his death remains unsolved. now, in this new indictment, unsealed this afternoon, prosecutors say detective wayne jenkins told an officer he was sending another officer sean suiter based on court documents to search the car because he was "clueless" that jenkins had reportedly planted drugs. while suiter is not named in the documents he's named in the charging documents about the 2010 case. he ultimately found the planted heroin in the car and the suspect

sentenced to more than a decade behind bars. >> what this indictment outlines in great detail is the fact that sean suiter was not involved in any way shape or form in any criminal misconduct whatsoever. and i know there has been a lot of speculation about that and i think that this indictment spells out detective suiter's role seven years ago in this particular case. detective suiter was used. he was officer suiter at the time. he was used and he was put in a position where he unwittingly recovered drugs that had been planted by another police officer. and that's -- that's a damn shame. >> today prosecutors filed a motion to vacate omar burleigh's conviction and another man's conviction. some lawmakers say an independent investigation will be the quickest way to provide the public and detective sean suiter's family with answers. sergeant wayne jenkins is ex

>> ♪ >> welcome back to fox5. you know we thought we would be talking about christmas trees today. instead we're talking about an earthquake because about 4:47 this afternoon initially it was thought to be a 5.1 magnitude earthquake felt near dover delaware. we now know this has been revised, that it was likely a 4.4 magnitude earthquake which is still very significant. this was east-northeast of dover delaware again about 4:47 this afternoon but many of you felt it. this is not as strong as the earthquake we had in 2011 which was a 5.8 and that one was centered about 38 miles northwest of richmond. nevertheless we know that the

damage. we're hoping we don't have a lot of damage with this one located closer to dover. a lot of people saw it in delaware. a lot of people in philadelphia sent it. jim lokay what are some of the other locations. >> the usgs has the shake map where you're likely to feel vibrations and effects of the earthquake. they're saying the national cathedral may have likely at least felt a little effect of it. they're saying just weak if that but other cities trenton new jersey, harrisburg pa richmond even hartford connecticut likely to at least feel weaking effects, you know, it just depends on where you are but it's a pretty big area. >> yeah, absolutely. i've heard from a lot of people here locally that said they felt it. it was nowhere near as strong as 2011. some folks on twitter said it was a brief shaking a few seconds whereas back in 2011 i felt that and that lasted what felt like over a minute in many areas with tremendous damage to the cathedral and also to the washington monument as we kno

impersonated a police officer and raped a man he had stopped. >> investigators say it happened sunday morning in langley park. now there's concern there may be other victims out there. fox5's paul wagner live from prince george's county police headquarters tonight with that story. paul. >> reporter: yeah, jim and sarah an incredible story. sunday morning police say they got a call from this man who said that he had just been raped by a man in a uniform who had used a badge, asked him for his i.d. put him in the back of a cruiser and raped him on a side street in langley park and four days later police say they were able to make an arrest because that man, that victim, had taken a picture of the license plate with his cell phone. let's show you some pictures that the prince george's county police released to us earlier today. this is michael bell. he's a 36-year-old security guard from upper marlboro who police say stopped a man in langley park early sunday morning and asked him for his identification.

flashlight before padding him down the victim telling him he was in a dangerous area and offered to give him a ride. police say he then put the victim only described as a young latino male into this 2007 ford crown victoria and drove him to a secluded location. police say bell first stopped the man around 6:15 in the morning near the intersection of riggs road and university boulevard before driving him to a side street. the two -- the 2100 block of guilford road where police say the victim was forced to perform sexual acts and raped. after bell drove off, police say the victim was brave enough to snap the photo of that car. based on evidence, they have recovered, investigators are concerned bell may have done this before. >> we have and again we are in the middle of an investigation, were you the we have been able to execute search warrants. we have gotten some evidence that makes us very concerned about the potential of other

victims. there was that i.d. that bell asks the victim to give to him, demands him upon projecting him says give me your i.d. then pats him down. we have located other i.d. of other people. we are looking into that now. >> reporter: now, although police say they did find some other i.d.'s, they did say today at a news conference that they had no reports at all from that area of any kind of a police impersonator in recent days, weeks and or months. we know that bell is that locked up currently and he's about to see a commissioner. we're live in palmer park, paul wagner fox5 local news. >> ♪ >> tonight a war of words has broken out over a grade fixing scandal in prince george's county public schools. >> maryland governor larry hogan blasted county leaders for not taking the investigation seriously. now he's planning a meeting with the naacp directly to address their concerns. >> tom fitzgerald spoke with both governor h

rushern baker he's live at charles flowers high school tonight with more on this. fitz. >> reporter: sarah, jim, this simmering disagreement between the governor and the county executive boiled over today and this is what turned up that heat. this was a letter from the prince george's county ncaa p directly to the governor asking him to step in, meet with them directly and take care of what the naacp says is an injustice to the students going to school here in prince george's county. now, the governor telling fox5 tonight that meeting is going to happen the week after next but he added he has big concerns about what he sees as a lack of action on the part of the county and schools here and what the naacp is calling a grade fixing scandal. >> when the findings came in and found widespread wrongdoing, the school system again and both the county and the school s

take it seriously. now we have a letter from the naacp pleading with us to -- to get involved and take it to the next level. you know, i'm concerned that they didn't take it seriously. i said that at first. >> reporter: now, in the text of that letter to the governor, the prince george's county naacp says they have deep concerns about the pg county performance audit, adding that they believe that the grade fixing scandal is just an effect but the cause, they say, runs much deeper. ironically, both hogan and the county executive, rushern baker shared a stage today breaking ground on a new university of maryland medical center in largo. now, following that event, the county executive reiterated his support for prince george's county chief of executive officer dr. kevin maxwell and went on to say that the governor may have been out of line in his comments abo t

portion of connecticut. >> what's interesting is the fact that this is one of many earthquakes that happened throughout the day. how significant, though, is this one at this point for us? >> as for the eastern u.s. it's a fairly significant earthquake just because they don't get many of them of that size, and when they do have one of this size they're felt over a wider area than in other areas of the country such as california. >> any idea exactly at this point if we're going to have another one? is this something large enough we hear a lot of earthquakes, you talk about aftershocks and that types of things. are we likely to feel something else again, another earthquake, maybe smaller? >> generally earthquakes of this size will have some aftershocks. we have not recorded any yet and we wouldn't expect to see a lot of them but it wouldn't be surprising to see something in the magnitude two range. >> and you're not hearing anything of reports of damage or anything of that n

right? >> we haven't heard of any reports of damage so far, but an earthquake of this size would cause minimal damage such as items knocked off of shelves and maybe some plaster cracks. >> let me ask you very quickly john this came down as a 5.1 and then it was revised downward. when you have an earthquake occur is there usually that sort of disparity in the initial reports. >> well, in some areas of the country we have more corroboration of local networks and sometimes we automatically send it to the web site. when that happens the magnitude can change as we get more data and that's what happened in this situation. >> i think you kind of addressed this before. this is kind of a rare area to get an earthquake like this of this size, correct? >> yeah, it's definitely quite rare. we do see small earthquakes in the eastern u.s. magnitude one or two range, you know, somewhat regularly, meaning

will bring a shower or two really nothing significant. that would be low on the magnitude square of wedding -- of weather what's coming through tonight. let's get to your graphics. earlier today, you know, it was actually another mild one. temperatures above normal. 60 reagan, 57 dulles, 56 at bwi so we did well with a nice south wind making it feel pretty mild out there this afternoon. still mild, 52 baltimore, 56 washington, 51 dulles and 51 in martinsburg. winds are out of the south out ahead of this cold front. it will get a little breezy as it approaches in the next couple of hours and there is that front right now bringing a pretty organized area of showers stretching from upstate new york down through western pennsylvania and sections of west virginia. locally, though, it's pretty minimal. you can see all the way out in western maryland cumberland and then back up into central portions of pennsylvania, some very light rain. that will move northeast ward but honestly it will lose its steam even as it gets to us so i would say your forecast for tonight generally mostly cloudy, 45 degrees overnight. a shower or two before midnight with this front but

out very quickly and as you wake up on your friday morning, we'll be greeted with sunshine. so, your setup for friday high pressure overhead nice and cool behind this front. temperatures will only be in the mid 40's kind of mild to start the day but then we'll be a little cooler tomorrow afternoon as we see high temperatures reach probably the mid-50's. accuweather 7-day forecast, sunny and cool tomorrow, 56. a couple more clouds increase saturday and a little cooler, sunday looks beautiful. now we're mild to start off next week but then there is a pretty loud signal that the second half of next week will be turning sharply colder as reflected in that high temperature after some showers of just 47 degrees. so stay tuned on that. that's your seven-day forecast. fox5 will be right back. >> ♪

and then this one really is getting the most attention. in fact a lot of people have been on social media all day today taking pictures of this. it's really starting to circulate. this is at president trump. the president said what? well, earlier today we spoke to the reverend of this church. he's the one that came up with this idea. we asked him to talk about it a little bit. take a listen. >> i don't want to speak for jesus too much but the jesus that i know and the jesus that i follow is a jesus who reaches out to people on the margins is a jesus who loves everybody and doesn't put up border walls. now, i know there's christians out there who are definitely in line with what our president is doing. but there's also a voice in christianity that says this is not in line and this is not okay. >> reporter: do you think that maybe this might actually get to the president's attention if media picks it up and the president does see it. >> well,. >> reporter: do you think
