chief newsham saying the officer involved in terrence sterling case will be in essence fired from his job. >> discipline. >> as a result of the shooting of the unarmed man back in september of 2016. >> all right. 90:00 is the time. major push this morning to release dash cam video of the deadly shooting of a man by u.s. park police officer. now the incident happened in northern virginia last month. now the family of the man is demanding answers. fox5's bob barnard live outside police headquarters in fairfax county this morning. bob? >> reporter: hey, wisdom. bay shard day john's family says he was shot three times in the head by us park police last month. he's, he was 25 years old a twenty two 2010 graduate of langley high school in mclean, virginia, vcu graduate. he was an accountant with his family's accounting firm. he was shot dead inside his car november 17th. this was friday night around 7:40 p.m. after a chase involving a u.s. park police

from fairfax county police. this ended up on fort hunt road in alexandria. park police say that mr. gay scharr was involved in hit-and-run crash on gw parkway and wouldn't stop for them when they tried to pull him over. the shooting was captured on dashboard camera video by one of the fairfax county police cruisers. that video has been turned over to the fbi. the chief here in fairfax county ed wrestler wants to release the video but says he's holding back for now. it's a crucial piece of evidence for the fbi to conduct a thor roy investigation f i release that video right now, i could bias the out come of the investigation and hinder the legal process. >> the family says it's too distraught to speak on camera but did issue to us this statement. the reason for the murder of our son has yet to be determine. though no reasoning could

the one or more park police officers involved in this unthinkable act and again they say their son was shot three times in the head. they say he was a peaceful person. he was unarmed, and oh and that friday night last month, was no threat to the community. guys? >> a lot of questions there. bob barnard, thank you. first at 9:00 this morning. a potential holiday nightmare at a ups facility in frederick. a fire breaking out overnight damaged several trucks, packages parts of the plant. fox5's melanie alnwick was first on the scene this morning and joins us now live with more on this investigation and what it could mean for anyone who might have holiday gifts going through that facility. good morning, mel. >> reporter: good morning, allison. you can still smell the fire in the air here that smell of melted metal and plastic and ash. right here on the building is where that trailer structure that temporary

then swing over here, you can see another temporary structure like it, and then behind that's where they moved all of the burned out trucks just take look at how hot that fire must have been. look at the damage on all of those trucks. ten completely destroyed now let's show you the pictures from frederick county fire and re rescue. the flames just shooting into the air balls of fire when they got on to the scene here. this was about 11:40 last night and then when they finally got here, really just moments later, they were able to put it out quickly. i'm told that most of the employees that were here at the tote time were in the front of the building so it might have taken a few minutes before anyone walk back through here and noticed the flames shooting through the building. fortunately they have a pretty robust sprinkler system. inside the main building and that prevented that fire from epidemic spreading further into the facility. no injuries. that's the good news. and they are able to continue operations as much as normal today. a

of a hold up because they're not able to process as many packages as they had been with that one temporary building now destroyed as well. i'm sure everyone wants to know, what got damaged in terms of the packages. hard to say exactly how many at this point. ups says it is able to go ahead don tracking because every time a package comes through if you kind of look there you can see how those packages kind of come through these conveyor belts and the temporary buildings they get loaded on to the trucks. so ups is able to get a sense of what came through here and they are in the process of making lists of all of those packages and then notifying the shipper so yes, indeed, there will be some holiday packages perhaps and some other necessities there won't make it to their destinations but on my estimates it's probably just a few hun hundred. live here in frederick, melanie alnwick, fox5 local news. >> but if you're one of the hundred. >> right. >> thanks, mel. appreciate the update. let's go ahead at and check the morning briefing.

cases in the us supreme court. first new developments on president trump's travel ban. supreme court letting his administration fully enforce the ban. the travel ban applies to people from 66 mostly muslim countries. however they're ruling on the ban is not finalized. challenges to the policy are currently making their way through federal courts. but in the meantime justices say the policy can take full effect. meanwhile high profile court case gets underway today. five years ago colorado baker rue fused to make a wedding bake tore same sex couple. that couple took legal action. now the case will be in the supreme court today. the case is drawing backers on both sides to washington. people have been camped out to the sidewalk outside the supreme court hoping to be there for what is expected to be a landmark case. the verdict will likely set a precedent on religious freedoms and anti discrimination laws. president donald trump reversing course this morning and officially heading into roy moore's corner. he offered a full endorse many of the he will

taking a look at how it all went down on the first day. so yesterday according to the website that track the toll information roughly 11,000 vehicles merged on to the lanes eked from the dulles connector road. the lanes run between 495 and rosslyn give solo drivers the option to pay to drive the stretch of hov lanes. 86% of the drivers were equipped with e-z pass or eez pass flex. you are required to have ez pass or e-z pass flex to travel. so great job to everybody who followed those instructions. average speeds clocked in about 57 miles per hour. and that's 20 miles per hour faster than last year this time. now, prices for the nearly 20 every ten mill strip ranged yesterday from $4.50 at 5:36am to $34.50 at 8:36. over to $34. fortunately for that price only lasted about six minutes that's because toll prices do update every sick minutes. they fluctuate a lot. the price indicates the road is getting full so as traffic gets more couldn't jeffed the system

that this clearly was going to be an issue. the one thing that ben hated more than anything in the world was lying. he couldn't stand lying. and the beginning of the documentary starts out with him talking about people lying all the time, and in the washington post newsroom there's ben bradley conference room, on a huge wall right up aside that emblazoned in big letters is a quote from ben that says, "a lie no matter how bad is never as dangerous as -- the truth no matter how bad is never as dangerous as a lie in the long run". and i think that his whole attitude toward life was let's get to the truth, and i think that right now i mean we're seeing i think the washington post had something, l a story a couple weeks ago about how trump lies five and a half times a day and the people around him lie all the time. i mean it's constantly lying. and so i think that what's happening now in journalism

second wife as well and there was some questions about where he really blurred the lines. >> right. >> of, you know, friendship and journalism. all of that to say that it's a very true story that we see about this man who was great but also had his flaws. >> well, i think, um, actually i think the movie was pretty much of a valentine. but i think that during the kennedy administration they were -- jack and jackie and tony and ben were best friends and they were neighbors before they went to the white house kennedy always said you don't make new friends in the white house. and so there they were having dinner three times a week and ben and jack had a -- i mean they had an understanding. both of them knew that there was something in it for each one of them. you know, ben was getting great scoops all the time and jack was probably getting more favorable coverage. but, um, they had an agreement that ben was taking notes every single

and he said just don't print anything until ten years after i'm out of office and ben waited until ten years after he died before he wrote his book. but the other thing is, in washington, if you spend a lot of time here, certainly i have, you get older you start out with a group of friends. some of them i mean you're a journalist, some of your friends may well be working in government. suddenly, you know, your best friend is a senator or deputy secretary of state or even the president. and you're still best friends. and so there's always a fine line, and i think we all have to walk -- i don't know if single journalist who doesn't have a situation where they're friendly with some source, um, or some close friend becomes a source. so you always have to make that judgment. and in one case, ben printed something that jack didn't like, and he banished him from the white house for three months. it wasn't until tony and jackie got together and said, this is ridiculous and we miss each other, and let's get

you are part of that. >> we had you last christmas. >> that's right. >> welcome back. this is home. it's all mixed in. >> i love it. now you are giving back, and it's just an extension of your heart. tell me about your foundation what you guys are doing. >> we've been putting together, um, the resources for a, washington i call a vocal camp but it really is more than that. it is run by a guy named nicholas cooper from the area as well, and is one of the biggest vocal coaches in the business, and we use the vocal camp to really get into the character building, and mentoring and educating kids about the entertainment industry and, um, you know really get into their lives because kids need great support. i think we're in an age now where celebrity is so blown up in their face. >> absolutely. >> they're so much concentration on how do i become a celebrity but we miss the real arts portion of it. we miss the person that the character building. >> i think that's important coming from you because people have seen you through the years and they know you're not, you know a flash in the pan artist. you've been there.
