tonight with what is expected to be an historic vote on tax re form. the senate is still debating the gop legislation. you're looking at a live picture from capital hill. members began this debate more than six hours ago. a vote is still expected sometime tonight. earlier today the house of representatives passed a sweeping rewrite of the nation's tax code, the first in three decades, but a prosed yurl naf yew basically wiped out that vote. senate democrats say three provisions in the house bill violate senate rules and therefore have to be removed and so the house will have a redo tomorrow. the legislation is expected to pass again. we will of course keep an eye on this throughout the evening. also developing tonight a single vote may spell the end of the republican control in va's house of delegates. the democratic delegate shell i simmons seems to have won by one vote. her victory would mean an

democrats in the statehouse. it would also mean a rare power sharing agreement may have to be brokered. they will recount the votes tomorrow. they do not expect any votes to be challeng ed. new tonight, we are hearing a firery response from d.c. advisory neighborhood commissioner paul tram throm after he was bustedded for allegedly driving drunk in prince george's county. he is an elected leader from ward eight. he was belligerent and they release video of him cursing at them after his arrest >>reporter: officers stopped tram throm on indian hill last night. they say his quar was serving and they pulled him over . he refused a field sobriety sobriety test. when they arrived at the police station officers say he locked himself in a bathroom and refus ed to come out. they re lease aap

it will cost house of mercy nearly a thousand dollars to re place the door which needs to be special organized. the house of mercy is a thift store and food pantry which provides food for free to needy families all over virginia. there's a lot of folks. this is where they're getting their only meals and this whole thift store works on putting food in the pantry. we're nonprofit. eighty-five-cents of every dollar that we go through this register we buy food with. barron says watching people steel from the poor during the holidays is sad enough, but what's worse is if this man was in need all he haded to do was ask. if he was to come in and basically said i'm in need of help we would have probably given him more than what he got out of his registers. live back here it might take a while to re place this glass pain on the door. if you recognize that suspect in the video give prince william county police a call. >> a registered sex offender fr

is in jail tonight accused of sexually assaulted a 12 year old boy he met online. these are pictures from ray monthsry as. the one is from his recent ar rest. he and the victim scainged nude exchanges. investigators say dale lowe's reyes arounded to meet the 12 year old for sex. he drove him to montgomery county where they allegedly had a sexual encounter . day lowe's ray owes is being held without bond tonight. if convicted effaces up to 40 years in prison. >> a federal jury convicted an exald alexandria pastor for their involvement in a $2 million fraud scheme. peggy and brandon miller were convict ed of conspiracy and money laundering. they told church members the money would help people in poor countries, but instead they used the money for

a nearly $2 million house. the couple is scheduled to be sentenced in march. tonight a new twist in our fox5 investigation into grade fixing allegations in prince george's county public schools. we learn ed that school officials knew more than a year ago that some students were graduating without meeting the requirements long before a state mandated audit reached the same conclusion. fox5's lindsay watts broke those new developments. she's live knew with what happened at tonight's board meeting. lindsay. reporter roar what's so significant about that internal audit is it chose top leaders at prince george's county schools knew about mismanagement of student records, including the records of graduating seniors. they found out about this more than a year ago through their own investigation. this internal audit, though, is only being made public now after we confirmed its existence. listen to wawa one parent had to say at the meeting here tonight. i scaw tha

that there was an internal audit done by prince george's county officials in 2016 and where they were already aware of all of the issues that were brought by the minority board members of this county. you knew the entire time when you were getting up here doing your press releases that you were misleading the public and were lying. strong words there. she referenced a minority block of board members who alleged top down corruption do boost the graduation rate. over the summer fox5 spoke to teachers who said they were being forced to change grades of failing students so they would pass. it prompted a state audit that found students in the district are graduating without meeting state requirements. before that, the school's ceo and board chair adamantly denied that anything was amiss when it came to graduating seniors. i interviewed ceo dr. kevin maxwell today

still tried to say he did not know despite his own audit. and that went to you back in may of 2016, so how can you say you didn't know of that this was happening. that was copied to me. it was not my audit to actually go through myself and respond to at that moment. but our folks took that very seriously and looked at it. you said some students graduating that there was no evidence to show they gee served a diploma. at that time you knew that was happening, isn't that correct. >> i knew that the audit found that there are cases. i asked my folks -- this is what our folks do that went to doctor tally and to doctor maze oon and they were charged with working with their people to confirm. that's how audits work. so you heard there eventually he did acknowledge that he knew there were cases of students graduat ing without meeting requirements and then referenced others tasked toea

this is all coming out the same night dr. maxwell presented a big plan of action to address that state audit and fix the major problems identified there the thing is, though, there was already an action plan created after the internal awd its more than a year before state investigators came in if that plan didn't work the first time dwr would the plan you're presenting tonight work now? >> so i'm not sure that it didn't work. i'm not sure that we didn't improve. >> except that auditors came in a year later and they found all a of these major discrepancies when you already addressed this was happening and you made a plan to correct it, so why wasn't it fixed? >> i believe some of the things were fixed. i think when we come back this year after we do the next audit you'll see that the implementation of this plan has gone very well and that we're doing much, much better. i do have another meeting that i need to get to. >> i wanted to ask you about the

new knit a new twist in the d.c. mansion murder mystery and the many unanswered questions surrounding that case. fox5's marina maracco has been following the case of the brutal murders of the effluent d.c. family and their housekeeper killed inside their northwest d.c. home. marina. >>reporter: it has now been almost three years since the mansion murders and there's only been one arrest for the supplant flas family and their housekeeper. darin rent. he has maintained

and d.c. \police\police have also publicly said they believe there are more suspects. in recent weeks fox5 has uncovered these documents. this is a civil protection order that the middle of savopoulos children catherine a filed against her grandchildren the patriot rock of the family who died along with their family and their housekeeper after being held against their will for 19 hours in their d.c. mansion back in may of 2015. a d.c. superior court judge granted r granted that protection order be sealed because of the sensitive and serious allegations of a personal nature. the order is checked off and the other box where the words sexual assault are printed in parenthesis. the judge orders phillip savopoulos 100 yards away from his granddaughter catherine a for an entire year until september of 2018. essentially what you want and what you're saying to the judge is i

sheriffs department he claims they racially. cravens recorded a video. cravens says officers approached him when he pulled into a grocery store parking lot . the officer cited h him for speeding and for having illegal tint on his windows. they put him in a squad car and a deputy searched his car for marijuana. they pulled me over in the parking lot. he ran up on me and said stay in your car ran up on me. i said, what, they pulled me out of the car and said calm down and started push pushing me up against the window, put cuffs on my hand. wanted to pull somebody over because i'm black. i got a tattoo and i'm out here in a nice car. >> the loudon county sheriff's office said this was not a case of racial profiling. the office has not received any complaints

is live with the story tonight. >>reporter: i spoke with the fairfax county police department about how all this goes down. so when people are entering or exiting the hospital someone engages them in conversation. when they're vulnerable and they don't realize their baggies left open, a second person comes and pick pockets them. once they have your information and family your credit cards they immediate ly start spending. take a large audience at your screen. police release these photos of three suspects who have victimized at least four people so far. it's an unfortunately commentary i guess on just the realities of life today. you have to be sure that you're careful about where you're at at all times. it's interesting that that's the place that it's happening because i guess people have their minds on what they're thinking about going to the doctor, going to the hospital. it is shameful, but the susct

reporting in fairfax county, corey coffin, fox5 local news. >> tonight we're learning member offices in the house of representatives settled at least three claims of sexual harassment retaliation for $115,000. that's according to new stats from the house office of compliance. those claims were paid out between 2008 and 2012. the office did not identify the specific officeses or the employees involved in those settlements. amid a title wave of sexual misconduct allegations in entertainment and politics d.c. mayor muriel bowser is stepping up training. supervisors must complete advanced training to handle complaints. each agency must have a point person to investigate harassment claims. all new employees are required to take a course on sexual harassment within the first two weeks and existing employees must take a refresher course at least once every two years.
