q. the final five, house republicans turns out the final vote wasn't so final. another threat of a government shutdown the north from causing trouble during the olympics, a safety system delayed by congress may prehave prevented the deadly amtrak case. the attorney general's new crack down on violent crime. this is the final five. let's do this. here we are # one:30 on a tuesday night and a tax reform bill is getting close to heading to the president's desk. the president has been debating the bill for hours. chris

have to did it again. why. >> democrats noted three provisions viemented senate rules and they have to remove them. the gop doing this tax bill under reconciliation. there are budget rules. and one of the rules means the house has to make a change as simple as the title of the bill. they can't call it the tax cuts. they have to come up with this catchy name. pursuant to titles two and five the current resolution for fiscal year 2018 i wish i thatted a gravel and while the gop is cheering this bill on, democrats have been blasting the measure painting it as a tax cut for the wealthy and somebody went to kinkos before the debate in the senate because they brought along more charts and graphs. this looks like the monopoly one. 83 percent of the total federal tax change over the gol gop bill goes to the top 1 percent. the bill would add to t
11:33 pm
addition to calling this tax bill for the wealthy democrats warned about repealing the individual mandate. that is something the bill does. the corporate tax cuts are permanent . they last forever. the tax cuts for individual, inadequate, and modest as they are, expire after a few years. i wonder why they did that? through a new way of calculating inflation called change cpi which would hurt middle class families. that doesn't take into account the millions of americans and my colleague from pennsylvania who was part of that in that night brought in the middle of the street and put a new provision, will cost 13 million americans. >> the tax bill will also help make president trump richer while he's claimed the exact opposite. there is no way to prove that because the president never releases tax returns. in some ways particularly on the personal side

likely take a big hit, but on the business side he could benefit, but the biggest focus for this white has has been to make sure all americans are better off today after this tax passes than they were beforehand . we really focused on invigorating the middle class and making sure they got more of their hard-earned money. sanders also said the reason the president hasn't release the tax returns is because they're under audit. >> the gop may not have much time to celebrate the tax bill because congress has to hammer out a spending bill by friday. sound familiar? two weeks ago congress stopped a temporary tax quut to keep the government up and running. that runs out on midnight on friday. congress is facing another deadline to avoid a democratic shutdown. they are backing away over daca. that should help negotiations run more smoothly. dozens of disems if the

it was required to have implementation. congress did delay the deadline. they pushed the deadline forward. but the rule really was that it had you have been implemented already. >> so what's the hold up here, money and lots of it. in 2008 when congressman dated positive train control on all major rail lines all these changes were supposed to be done by the end of 2015 but the railroads complained congress delayed it for three more years because of the price tag. we're talking about 22 bill over 20 years and part of the problem is coordinating trains and switches and signals. a transportation system warnings that that delay is putting lives at risk. it's a slow moving target at least to implement but it's an immediate need. as more accidents in particular happen. we saw in philly two years ago, 2015, right now, 2017 these are becoming a continued need in many different regions, but the

like republicans will score a significant victory to wrap up their year. how big. we have two guests up lauren dealt, form er press secretary for senator form. i will let everybody at home figure out who is lauren and who is garret? a. but either one of you chime in right now. is a big deal. a little bit of a setback today. but it looks like this is full steam ahead. >> this is a big win for the people that voted for president trump in 2016. you know, look, people voted for the ability to bring their jobs back to the united states. they voted for the ability to have companies bring jobs back home and also to have more money in their pockets . once we see this tax reform signed into law we're looking as early as february for people to see money back in their paycheck. it's been amus

republican, to see kind of the democrats spin machine in full swing because the reality of the situation is that people are about to get more money back in their paychecks april that's good thing from the american people. when you mentioned about the democrats, we saw chris van holland up there. we saw some senators from these other high tax states, new york and california. in can pennsylvania, those are the 12 republicans who roated no in the house from states like that. they're saying that's their concern. they think that people in maryland and the high tax states. that doesn't seem like that's going to be the case, at least back ers of the bill are saying this. the reality of this, this bill cuts taxes for about 80 percent of americans. people will see a tax cut of anywhere between 1600 and $2,000 . that's a big difference . h this is about fairer taxes and bringing relief to small business owners, middle class families and working families, too. it does things
11:45 pm
and individuals will pay no taxes on. expanding the child tax credit so working families can take care of their children this is an important bill and the reality is democrats are spewing out the regular talking points here, but the reality is that this is going to cut taxes you're going to see bigger paychecks and you're going to see more jobs here in america. when the idea came out it looked like the president was calling for 15 percent corporate tax. they settled on 21 percent. you're going from 35 to 21 percent. but that seemed to be a big sticking point in the negotiations. is the business community, are they happy with -- i'm sure they would be happier with 15 percent, but two # percent, that's still pretty significant. i think the business community is happy with this tax break. i mean you saw the stock market today doing extremely well and i think something that's important to point out is the fact that when president obama was in office he proposed cutting the corporate tax rate as
11:46 pm
anywhere because he didn't have the support on capital hill, but i think that cutting the corporate tax rate is something that unfortunately although democrats didn't decide to vote for this today is something that in reality has bipartisan approval. our country has the highest corporate tax rate in the western world. we have not reformed our tax code in 30 years plus. and so the important thing to remember today and i know that a lot of democrats have wanted to paint this as something that is for the wealthy and that is, you know, the # percent. the reality is this tax plan is going to be something that helps bring jobs back to the united states, which is something that people have been waiting for for a really long long time. let's say that senate passes this tonight, the house votes thraw tomorrow which they're going to do. what do you want to see the republicans tackle l next when we go into next year
11:47 pm
great question. that's why i asked it. that's a good question. so i think that one thing that you're going to see is the president obviously wants to focus on his infrastructure plan. they're eventually going to have to come back and fix healthcare. h this tax plan it does repeal the individual mandate, but premiums are out of control under obamacare. you have people throughout the country that have maybe one option. they need to come back together on healthcare and fix this. this will not only be a big win for republicans but for the american people. i think the infrastructure bill, it puts a lot of people back to work. it helps democrats, republicans. >> garret, don't get come if i in that chair. that's my chair see you after this on the final five. bass bass

>> next time somebody tells you i'm not going to vote it doesn't count so them this story. a single vote likely decided race in virginia's house of delegates and that vote in turn may also spell the end of republican control in virginia's house. a recount put shell i simon ahead of her republican in the nine district which is around newport news. officials don't expect any balance to be challenged. it would split virginia's house at 50/50. there are till other recounts that remain set for tomorrow and thursday. we'll keep an eye on a race for sure. one guy on facebook lived in that district or moved out of that district and said i changed my voter rej station and he says it's all his fault now. if you're find that guy on facebook . it's all his fault. q. the centers for disease control says there are no words that are off limits whe
