first day of winter and it arrives the same day that tens of thousands people plan to hit the roads for the holiday weekend. for a look at what to expect tucker barnes with a first check of the weekend. tuck. >> cold start to the day with chilly afternoon in the forecast but nice and dry. if you are hitting roads locally and by locally i mean boston, up and down 95 here to atlanta, we're going to be fine today. nice quiet afternoon. look at the satellite in just a second. winter starting chilly. overnight lows for most of the area back into the 20s. eve some teens in places like culpeper and out towards manassas early this morning. so definitely a chilly start. okay. we're up to arthritic at reagan national. let's see. we're looking at mostly sunny skies at this hour. and we'll be in for mostly sunny day today. there's just not a lot to talk about here locally. that's great news because everybody is traveling. as high pressure just to our north here delivers a really nice afternoon. so just a few clouds out there. otherwise, dry conditions and quiet conditions for our day today but noticeably cooler the last couple of days. highs only in the mid

40s for day heim ties. we have warmer air on the way some rain for saturday. we'll talk about that coming up, and still the potential for a few snowflakes around here in time for christmas morning. so we'll see if we can make that happen as well but i might need your help. might have to ask santa for it. 48 today. my song request is the muppets christmas 12 days of christmas. >> that's a good one. >> i like that one, too. i have to admit. thanks tuck. appreciate it. 9:04 is our time right now. we want to get to developing new out of australia where nearly 20 people are hurt after an suv rammed a crowd pedestrians today in melbourne. it was an area busy with christmas shoppers. police were quick to determine that this was deliberate act but does it have ties to terrorism? our melanie alnwick has actually been monitoring this all morning long. she has the latest developments live from the newsroom. mel. >> reporter: good morning once again. 1:00 a.m. now in melbourne the streets are quiet after the evening of chaos. police say they don't have any evidence right now to connect this to terrorism, but they a

that there is no continuing threat. witnesses say the white see sue key suv ran a red light then sped up and crashed through pedestrian barriers and into the crowd without braking. this was just before 5:00 p.m. on a busy street in melbourne's central business district. people were holiday s shopping d waiting a cable car street outside flints street nation every staying. the area has been on high a lower since car attack in january that killed four. 19 people were taken to the hospital. four in critical condition. they range in age from 83 years old to just four years old. the suspect and the arresting officer are among those receiving medical treatment. now we're showing you pictures here from our sky news affiliate of one man being arrested by victoria police. he appeared to be unconscious and officers were seen trying to revive him. police say he fought with an off duty officer who wrestled him to the ground after the crash. then there was another man who was filmed sitting on the ground in handcuffs and calmly talking to investigators. th

city. >> at a time of the year when so many families celebrating the end to the year doing their christmas shopping making plans for what ought to be a festive season, we have seen a horrific act an evil act, an act of coward did he say. >> victoria police say the driver of the suv is a 32-year-old australian citizen of afghan decent. they say he is known to police with a history of assault, drug use and mental health issues. the other man who was taken into custody apparently was seen near the scene filming the incident on his phone and was carrying a bag of knives. police say they don't believe he has a connection to the driver. now prime minister called this shocking act and offered prayer for the victims and the first responders. you may recall just last year, right about this time, it was the berlin christmas market attack. that one killed 12 people. for now live in the newsroom i'm melanie alnwick. back up to you in the studio. >> mel, thank you very much.

nine sol 0:00 sick is the time. fair tax county police officer is receiving treatment after being. >> along route 28 this morning. the oh officer was hit by a car while directing traffic after this morning's crash. his injuries are believed to be non-life negligent egging much the southbound lanes remain closed at this hour as the investigation continues. the on the big story this morning is the holiday get away. travelers and commuters be warned though today is predicted to be the worst day of the christmas travel rush on the roads. aaa estimates more than 7 million people will travel by car to their christmas and new year's eve destinations in the washington metro area this season. that in addition to the 400,000 air travelers across the united states. so we have team coverage with these big numbers. fox5's anjali hemphill hit the road this morning to get look at the current delays in our area. anjali? >> reporter: hey, well, good morning. you know, i can say so far so good. but the

us. we know that the traffic is only going to start building more and more throughout the day, but we so far are smooth sailing in around the area. we did hit a trouble spot, though, as you guys were talking about in that traffic report route 28 and 66 major accident there. that's causing major delays in and around that area of the especially along 66 and a lot of those travelers in that area are head to go where we're heading right now which is dulles airport. and that is going to be, you know, snarling up traffic there and causing delays and possibly putting people at risk of being late for flights. we do know that 7 million people here in the d.c. area are going to be hitting the roads traveling 50 miles or more away from home. that's up 44% of the metro area residents are leaving home for the holiday -- christmas and new year's coming up, and today is expected to be the worst day. now, i can tell you that roads are clear now, but they are predicting that the worst hours to travel today will

3:00 and six com p.m. that cone win sides with the afternoon rush hour which you know will only complicate things even more. again, things are moving smooth now. if you are going to be heading out on the roadway today, if you have some flexibility on oh and when to leave the earlier the better you do not want to get caught in that 3:00 o'clock hour. that's just going to be a total mess and again, any accident you encounter on the roadway like the one we saw up in centreville on route 28, that's only going to delay things even more. so the earlier the better you can get out there. but the good news is, so far so good. zen it back to you. >> anjali, thank you so much. if you're not driving, you may hitting one of the region's airports and if you are trust us you'll have lot of company today. triple a says up to 400,000 more travelers will fly the friendly skies each day during the holidays. and there will also be 1400 extra tsa officers on hand. as well as an additional k9 teams out there, too. needless to say, it is going to be a very busy te

airports. bob barnard is all deck out in his fox5 gear and live at reagan national with that. good morning. looking sharp. >> reporter: thank you allison. good morning to you. yes, we've seen some of those extra k9 teams here at security, you're fine folks. here at the security checkpoints checking people as they get here online at the security checkpoints. so far it's been moving pretty well here at reagan national although we're told that it pick up here at this particular airport starting now in the 9:0h the day and there are now longer lines at security. so the advice according to tsa-f you are traveling anywhere throughout any of of our airports this next couple of days especially because of the extra crunch here, is to arrive early f you're flying dough mess klee arrive two hours early f you're travel internationally, arrive three hours early. the do's and don'ts also from tsa don't wrap your presents. if they trigger the machines here, the tsa agents are going to have to open them up. use gift bags

president trump celebrating a victory following approval of the gop tax reform bill he called it an incredible christmas gift for hard working americans. no word when he'll sign it there is still a lot of confusion about the pros and cons for the american people. once signed into law, the corporate tax rate will drop 14% and standard deduction and child tax credit will double. small businesses will also see a big reduction in taxes.

cole, coal to yesterday' press conference to counter the president's claim of the overall being a christmas gift for americans. but beyond politics democrats asked republicans explained adding to the deficit when the gop typically favors fiscal conservatism. vice-president mike pence says the economy will cover it. >> we're going to out perform those growth -- those growth projections and we're going to see those deficits overcome by growth. >> we focused on the needs of washington special interests. >> the gop is also counting on middle class tax savings from the elimination of the tax penalty tied to the obamacare individual mandate. again it is unclear when president trump will actually sign the tax overhaul into law. the white house legislative director says it's possible the bill will be signed at president's florida he is state during his holiday vacation. meanwhile, the clock is ticking to avoid a government sshutdown. congress needs to pass a spending bill by midnight tomorrow o

carolinas and then down towards at land and georgia nice and quiet. again if you're traveling out to the west in the mountains we look great with daytime highs again on the chilly side. high pressure off to the north will give us daytime highs only in the 40s. so it will be a little on the chilly side but really a nice afternoon and more importantly a dry afternoon for us. looking ahead little bit, let's talk weekend. tomorrow we do gradually warm it up, 56. then saturday looks wet. it is going to be wet day. not just here in the mid atlantic but really up down the eastern seaboard very wet day as we get push of warm air up ahead of our arctic front which will get in here sunday and monday. let me mention, it look like we have rain on sunday and it's a possibility we could end that as a brief period of some snow for parts of the area for christ pass day. so let's all make a wish to santa claus we get a few snowflakes on christmas day. still a possibility. all right. congratulations, holly that's awesome news. allison, over to you. all right, thank you so much tucker. i certainly do appreciate it. all right. finding

and there's nothing wrong with the boss dating a subordinate and there's nothing wrong with somebody dating several people at the same time in the same office. >> i think there's nothing wrong with dating in the office. if that's the choice that you make and half of americans say they have. other two-thirds say they would according to bolt.com. i don't agree with tavas however about dating multiple people in the office or dating your subordinates. >> right. that can owls lead to trouble. wouldn't you think? >> well obviously if you're a boss you're dating subordinates you're talking about an uneven power dynamic. >> right. >> crew trying to date someone and you hold their job, their job assignments, their promotions, in your hands. so what you think might be a consensual relationship someone may think i have to do this if i want to keep my job. that's where the problems comes in. >> so we thought we would not -- that's happening. you know what tavas smiley is saying. let's talk about the rest of us. what you can do if you're looking for love and it happens to be found in the office and number one i'm going to read off some of the great tips that you said. know the company's policy on dating

what would you say is the biggest misconception when people think of, you know, pageant women, pageant girls? >> i think a lot of people don't mick the beauty with the brains with pageantry. we have so many amazing elite women that are competing just in d.c. alone, and i think that once you realize these women come with so much more than just their beauty, pageantry that whole stick la will be erase. >> why did you get into it in the first place. >> when i was little i was always shy. i did get bullied a little bit for being the tall girl in school. so it was something that i always wanted to do and i started when i was 14 and now i'm just blossoming into this pretty flower that's going to continue. >> you've blossomed. >> yes. >> you have definitely blossomed. do you miss the nuclear regulatory commission. >> i do. i miss all of my colleagues. i miss just having the opportunity to be around people that understand science as well. but like i said like moving forward, i now have the chance to change lives. so i actually have a science big

>> right. >> we did you have this lot this week. specifically because of the kevin spacey thing ton catch people up in case you have not heard i'll keep it brief kevin spacey originally j paul getty christopher plumbers role. they had sexual allegations against him they took him out of the movie and row may have him with christopher plummer. it was ten day reshoot plummer had to shoot 22 scenes spacy had shot then did it from november 20, to november 29. three or four weeks ago. that scene you just saw was shot three or four week ago. >> they still made the movie release date they is set. >> 12/25 is is the release date. mark wahlberg when they official initially shot this film earlier this year he was 30-pound heavier at the start of the shoot. >> he had moved on. >> ready for next role. >> right. >> boy that point on 11/20 of this year, he was 30 pounds lighter. he had already the 30 pounds he had a full beard for new role. he had to go shoot this new movie. but one of the interesting things about this film now is because this beh

story and you can see mark wahlberg here this is him clearly 30 pounds heavier. not that he looks heavy. you can see there's little bit more weight. >> he look different. >> on his face. so when i spoke to him, i wanted to talk about the process of that. getting the continuity wrote but most importantly the message it sends to hollywood. when you replace kevin spacey you're sending a message something will be done about sexual allegations and sexual harassment in hollywood and uri placeable. if you're going to do that. i spoke to mark wahlberg and michelle whim jumps pow this message in the film and we talk to mark wahlberg about the weight element and also putting his thanksgiving plans aside with his family to shoot this reshoot. watch this. >> okay. >> i i hope it's not a hollywood message or hollywood problem. i think that the most important thing that i can say is, people are no longer being quiet, and if you behave badly, someone is going to talk. and it's going have dire consequences through the rest of your life.

accountable for your actions. i think, um, you know, it's one thing -- there's movies and stuff and then there's real life, right? now i don't know exactly what happened. i think everybody, you know, certainly -- should be able to have their due process. but with this particular movie and what was at stake i think ridley thought, okay, the only way to salvage his film would be to make this kind of executive decision, and he also wanted to honor the other 800 people to work on the film. that was not an easy thing totter but, you know, it was the right thing to do. >> you work a lot. i interview multiple times a year you're always making a movie i'm curious what you had to move around to do this? i mean this is a ten-day shoot, reshoot. >> it started from the very beginning. because i was shooting daddy's home two. i got the call late saying ridley wants you to do this thing. you got to make decision right away. i had a whole summer full of plans because i didn't have movie for, you know, union through august. so my wife and i were going to do a lot of things with the kids i had to call

you know, this opportunity came up. so that was the first tile then when the additional shooting came up, we had big thanksgiving plans we had family and friends coming from all over. i had another movie that i was starting five days actually three days aft we finished shooting this i had 30 pounds lighter had a beard ready to start rehearsing with pete burg and doing all of our prep and everything else. so all that went away. then i showed up in atlanta that sunday night started working monday morning on the new movie. >> you say 30 pounds lighter. you're one of those actors who you change physically all the time for your roles. >> yes. >> i was curious how you cep the continuity if you were 30 pounds lighter. >> i couldn't. >> what did they do? tighten -- alter the the suits. >> really? >> altered all the wardrobe to fit the same way that the other ones fit. i mean ridley came to my hotel room and said we're sight shooting next week. so i doesn't time i couldn't go and start putting weight on again because i promised pete for the first time in our -- this is our fourth movie

actually be isn't in shape for the character. they just altered all the suits. high to shave my beer. that was the one thing. >> wow. >> i couldn't. you don't really notice unless you're aware of it. >> yeah. >> if you go back and watch the movie any scenes that i'm in with gale, i'm a little more plump than the scenes with j paul getty. >> so i think we have like a little side by side video of what the shots look like prior to the reshoots then the current reshoots. it is interesting. >> oh yeah. >> you can definitely see it on his face for sure. but again more importantly as we saw at the beginning of the package the importance of this story is getting this out there that this is not going to be tolerated any more in hollywood. now the film it's interesting now you have this story going into the movie. how do you now watch the film. >> right. >> without thinking about this. >> as long as kevin spacey is in it i think -- i think you're in the clear in regards to that. has this ever hammed before someone has been taken out completely taken out of movie. >> great question. >> and reshot through somebody else. >> i was thinking about it kind of brought me back to people who pa
