yeemplet a squirrel's revenge on some homeowners. your news starts now. one day after fbi agents raided a home in northern virginia we're learning it may be linked to terrorism. yesterday agents swarmed a condo complex in sterling. now we have learned the man who lives there is a us citizen an is second suspected of supporting isis. after combing through court documents, fox5 lindsay watts has new detaissments according to the federal affidavit we've obtained the su pect's name is sean andrew dunk can. this is the sterling townhouse where he was living. you can see evidence of the fbi raid, this break here in the door. according to investigator s duncan moved to sterling fredericksburg pittsburgh over the summer. people in this quiet townhome community cannot believe the fbi investigation here is linked to terrorism. a nearly two-year long fbi investigation culminat ed in a raid on this stli

according to court documents the man living here is suspected of supporting isis. searches on his computer show he was looking up isis attack, weapons, body armor, the fbi says what they found is indicative of an individual planning and research ing how to conduct an attack. according to court documents the fbi was tipped off to duncan nearly by two years ago by a relative who said duncan converted to islam, may have been radicalized and voiced approval of westerners being bee headed in the middle east. from there more alleged isis styes were found. duncan and his wife tried to go to turkey but they were det need entry. a woman ar rested from her ties to terrorism said she communicated with scun can online and he toll her he wanted to join isis and a tablght us. i'm pretty shook to actually know this. just to hear that there was somebody like this living so close to

>> uh-huh. when i saw the big truck and a lieutenant of police people, i said, okay, something is going on. that's all we know . did you ever think it could be linked to ter rims. >> no. >> some antibody r ons who knew duncan say he was quiet. others describe him as cordial. everyone surprised something like this would happen in such a quiet neighborhood. i've been here for a year now and so far it's been a wonderful neighborhood, but i never thought it would be like at that scale. agents say when they arrived thursday duncan ran out the back door barefoot and then threw a baggy over their heads. inside that baggy investigators say was a broken thumb drive in a liquid substance. duncan was later detained and searched. no mention of his wife in the court documents. for now the only charge that duncan is facing is related to t allegedly destroying that thumb drive and obstructing an fbi investigation . there could be more charges to come, especially with all of the evidence that was ceased here yesterday. we'll continue to follow this case. in

was held in herndon for scott friker and his wife buckley koon friker. hundreds of people turned out. the couple was killed last week. they were shot in their home. police say the boyfriend of their daughter is responsible. family and friends tell us the frikers have been trying to break up their daughter's relationship because the 17 year old boyfriend reportedly held neo nazi views. we tbhow know what caused this house in north potomac to go up in flames. ash from a fireplace were placed placed in a plastic bag and caught fire this afternoon. flames quickly caught fire and spread all the way to the attic. no one was hurt. the house is not livable right now so the red cross is helping the family find a temporary place to stay. a dozen families need a new place to stay tonight after a fire destroyed parts of their gaithersburg condominium development. they were rushed to a nearby elementary

where they're receiving help in the american red cross. fox5's teisha lewis reports. frim idz tremghts and snow greeted famil ies forced to leave their homes in the we hours saturday morning after a fire swept through the potomac oak condominium development in gaithersburg. you know i'm just happy that everybody got out and one is safe. i don't know what to think at this point. i don't know how bad the damage is. i just have to make that assessment when these guys are done. andy green lives alone. he's one of a dozen families a wakened by screams to get out. what did you you see and hear when all of this was unfolding. a the look of people screaming and helping each other trying to get out. you are displaced, tell us what happened. >> it was five in the morning and i just hear banking on the door and they were just screaming fire. i thought it was gunshots for a second because the banking was so hard there was gunshots. i didn't run to the door if it was

gunshots. so then my uncle went and opened the door and they were screaming get out. we come out and the two buildings were on fire. we were just waiting to see what happens. at least 100 firefighters responded to the scene and not only did they fight this fire, but they battled freezing temperatures, snow and water that quickly turned to ice. right now the investigators will try to determine the cause of the fire it looks like it was in the upper areas, pretty significant damage. back when we arrived the fire was already through the roof. fortunately no serious injury. i believe the only injury thus far is to a police officer who has some little l smoke inhalation. fox5 has learned the fire started in the attic and was likely burning for an extended before a resident returning home called for help after smelling smoke. a call that likely saved several lives teisha lewis, fox5 local news the.

police were called to a home and shot a man as he came to the front door. they thought they were responding to a shooting and hostage situation. instead, officers say it turned out to be a prank call. the man suspected of making that call lives in los angeles. police arrested him yesterday afternoon and say the prank call may have stemmed from an online video game argument. the daughter of eric garner has died following a heart attack. ericka garner was a 27 year old activist for the black lives matter movement. her father died after a police officer subdued him with a choke hold in 2014. garner went into cardiac arrest earlier this week and had been in the hospital ever since president trump tweeting his support for anti government pro testors after widespread rallies take place in iran. the disem straitions began earlier this week sparked by anger over economic issues, prices of basic food

>> one maryland state trooper is leading the state's effort to combat drunk driving. for the past four years he's broken records consistently making more than s hundred dui arrests each year. >>reporter: this is a peak time for dui arrests mainly because of the holiday season. trooper anthony wallace says he pulls over every driver he witnesses to be impaired because at the end of the day it is about saving lives. as trooper wallace patrols highways around maryland with focus like the district's maryland suburbs and outside baltimore he has pictures of several victims quilled in drunk driving crashes

organizations benefiting from the influx of people donating before 2017 ends. in fact, here at its alexandria location people dwoa nateing don't even have to get out of the car which i can tell you a good thing because it is cold outside. they literally can pull in, pull up as people here will take the items, all kind of items and give it to the salvation army and of course all of this is fueled by the receipt that everyone will get before 2017 ends. i've got a lot of things to clear out. i assume from the line of people here that a lot of people are doing the same thing. what did you donate in. >> clothing items and a shelf. just to help other people out during times of trial and tax preparatory. i give every year the salvation army will be open to accept donations tonight through new year's eve. this is just one of four locations

woodbridge and manassas. of course they also have sites in the district and maryland. we're told the donations have been coming through none stop and these three last days of the year tend to be the busiest. from here the donated goods are sorted and sold at deeply discounted prices at salvation army locationses across the country. we're told most of these donations quomg in are clothing, but all types of items are accepted. right now we are busy all day long from the time we open until the time we close folks know it's the end of the year. they're looking to get their donations to us. a lieutenant of people are bringing us what they got new stuff for christmas so they're bringing us the old stuff. they also provide work at the salvation army for people who need jobs. of course the rush to donate before 2017 ends is motivated by the receipt that you get that you can use for your 2017 taxes as a deduction. teisha lewis, fox5 a local news. >> if anyone out there works at the salvation army i want to

county schools. in the last week we have uncovered new information that top school leaders knew more than a year ago that students were graduat ing without meeting requirements. fox5's lindsay watts broke this story last june and she continues to press for answers for the community. my children, our children, our teachers have been disgraced by what has happened in our school system at the most recent school board meeting parents were furious. when you go to the polls this november vote them all out. some calling for the school ceo and board chair to lee sign. prince george's county knew about mismanagement of student records. this after fox5 a uncovered hocking new information. i saw that fox news broke a story that there was an internal audit done by prince george's county officials in 2016. we've told you how a recent state audit found

are graduating without meeting requirements and mismanagement of student records. turns out the school system performed its own audit a year than a a half ago that found these same things . yet top management at the school system never mentioned it in the lead up to the state audit. instead they adamantly denied that there was any problem. back in june fox5 showed you teachers and staff who said they were pressured to change students' grades to make sure they graduated. the staff knows exactly what's happening. so it's widespread. it prompted four school board members to write to the governor saying there was a systemic effort to fraudulently boost the graduation rate, a signature achievement of school ceo dr. kevin maxwell and part of the reason his contract was renewed for furthermore years, a yearly compensation package of nearly half a million dollars. maxwell called the board members ' claims politically motivated to try t get rid of him. the false allegations about our

strike at everything that prince george's county schools stand for. the allegations that were made are reckless. when those accusations are made they're not about improving the system. those accusations are made about trying to disrupt and turn over leadership again in prince george's county. but in our most recent interview we con fronted maxwell about the school system's own audit and he admitted he did know in 016 some students were graduating without meeting requirements. when the board members came forward with these claims that some students were graduating who shouldn't, you called it all politically motivated, but you knew at the time that there was something to this. so why didn't you just come forward and present the internal audit findings at that point. >> so there's a difference between the what and the how. when we do audits and we do these to improve our practices and to get better april again we do a the look of audits. while the ren
