it was natural journal said you were pretty much dead center when you look at the political spectrum from left to right. you served as a democrat. when you look at the state of the democratic party right now, are they too extreme or are they finding themselves somewhere else in. >> most people in the country regular folks want a congress that can accommodate each other and get along and compromise and get things done. the problem is on both republican and the democratic side we're electing people who represent the extreme s of the two parties. they're not representative of the country as a whole, believe you, but they are representative of the partisans that show up especially in closed primaries and determine who the candidates are going to be. so i think they're out of step with the country and that's why congress is so unpopular. the district you represented was a swath of

even in that scenario you would end up with candidates from the treatments in the even election and that doesn't solve the poll artic airization program. we had chuck sue mere and nancy pelosi and i know a the look of democrats who are running for congress you'll have the rep senator say jason autism meyer is the candidate. is a nancy pelosi figure harmful to democrats down the road? it's harmful to democrats trying to win in contested purple swing seats like that. so in a district i represented that was basically half republican and half democrat, conservative democrats, yeah, it's a big problem when the leader is view ed as a san francisco liberal. there are areas of country where she's very popular , certainly western pennsylvania is not one of them looking into 2018 if the democrats have any hope
